《Counterattack》The Start

Five years old.
"Mama, can I have Teddy now? I promise I won't dirty him," I pout.
"Fine, Alex, but don't play with him in the mud. I won't get you another teddy," My mom warns me. I happily take Teddy and play with him on the swings.
"Haha, look at how weak he is." I hear voices and laughter. I take Teddy from the swing and move closer to listen to the conversation. I find two huge boys bullying a boy who is smaller than them. He has tears streaming down his face, and he is shaking.
"Come on. Give me that car of yours," The boy tries to snatch the toy from his hand. But the small boy holds it closer to his chest.
"N... No." The small boy denies it, angering the other two.
"That's it, no more nice guy," The boys start pushing him, trying to snatch the toy.
I drop Teddy and gather mud in both my hands. I run towards them and throw it on their face. They both shriek and cover their eyes, trying to take out the mud. I catch the small boy by his wrist and run away with him.
I stop by the swing and let go of his wrist, and he looks down, refusing to look at my face. I take my napkin and wipe his tears, and he moves back at my gesture. I smile at him.
"Hi, my name is Alex. Do you want to be my friend?" I question, still smiling. He looks down, and I bend down so I can look him in the eyes, and he moves back again. I hand him my napkin, and he hesitantly takes it from my hand.
"Thank you," He states, wiping his tears. After he is done, he looks at me, and for the first time, he smiles.
"My name is August. Do you want to play with my new car?" He asks, handing me his car. I shake my head.

"I have my teddy," I state and find the swing empty.
"My Teddy. I lost him," I start crying. His expression soon changes, and he hands me the car and runs away. I stop crying, confused as to what he is doing. He comes back sometime later with my Teddy.
"Teddy," I exclaim, hugging him close to my chest. I smile at him for bringing my Teddy back. We play together until my mom comes searching for me.
"Mama, look, I made a new friend," I exclaim happily. My mom smiles and asks me if I am ready to go. I nod and look at August. He looks sad.
"I will come again tomorrow. Will you come?" He smiles and nods happily. That is how I found my best friend.
Twelve years old.
"Alex, we are best friends, right?" August questions out of the blue.
"Yeah. Why do you ask? I question, swinging. He comes to a stop, and I also slow down.
"I want us to be best friends forever. You are so important to me," He smiles.
"I will always be your best friend, Blue," I state and wait for him to shout at me for calling him Blue. Instead, he smiles. I raise my eyebrow.
"I like it when you call me that. It makes me feel special that I am the only one who you call by a nickname,"
"Yeah, you also call me Dove. No one else calls me that," I state, swinging again.
"Yeah, that will be our thing. I also made a slogan for us, 'Always you before love and life' I know it sounds cheesy, but I promise that I will always choose you over love and life," He states, smiling.
"Class, there will be new transfer students joining us today. Please introduce yourselves,"
"Hi. I am Ace Black,"
"Hi. I am Adora Black,"
"We are twins," They simultaneously say. They give me the feeling that they like to be alone. They sit together at the back of the class. I want to be their friend because They seem interesting.

"No, I don't want to. I don't want you to have any other friends," Blue firmly states when I ask him to come with me to talk to the twins during lunch.
"Come on. I promise I will always be your best friend, but I feel lonely without you sometimes, and I need new friends," I give him the puppy dog eyes, hoping he will say yes. He looks at me and closes his eyes.
"Fine," He finally sighs. I squeal and pull him with me to the table where the twins are sitting.
"Hi," I state, sitting beside the boy, and Blue beside the girl.
"Umm, hi," They look at us weirdly.
"I am Alexis, but you can call me Alex. He is August, and we want to be your friends," I introduce.
"Su-" The girl starts when her twin interrupts.
"No," He states firmly. But August and I didn't give up. We chased them for a week. We never let them sit together. I occupied one seat and Blue the other, so they were forced to sit separately.
"Come on, I am this close to throwing you off the roof so I can be friends with your sister," I tell Ace, lying down on the table. I hear laughter, and I look up to see Ace laughing. I grin.
"Fine. I like you both. We can be friends," He extends his hand, and I shake it happily. That is how our little group was formed. Ace named the group A4 since all our names start with A.
We were inseparable. We were also the troublesome group, and our friendship flourished. But Blue and I stayed best friends, and the twins were our close friends.
16 years old. (Present)
"Dove, look what I found," I hear Blue's voice. I look away from my book to my best friend. He has my Teddy in his hands. I smile.
"Teddy," I take it from his hands. He has one eye, and half his ear is missing.
"Stop calling me Dove," I hand him my teddy and go back to my book.
"But I don't want to call you Alex like everyone else does. That's why I call you by your middle name. You stop calling me blue then, I will stop calling you Dove."
"Never. You will always be my scared and weak best friend," I smirk.
"Will you let that go? I was five years old. I am much stronger and handsome now," He exclaims, flexing, trying to show me his non-existent muscles. Now, that is a lie. Blue has changed. I don't know what he is doing, but he has a great muscular body. I roll my eyes.
"Yeah, yeah," I wave him off, going back to my book. He takes a seat beside me and smiles.
"We will be sophomores tomorrow. Can you believe that?" He starts playing with my hair. I sigh.
"No, time flew by fast. It feels like just yesterday I met you. It's going to be ten years," I say, trying to wrap my mind around the fact that I will be a sophomore tomorrow.
"I wonder what the twins have in store," I grin. We always start a school year with a great memory, so we can look back and laugh.
"Whatever it is, I am sure it's going to be epic and going to land us in detention," Blue states, chuckling. I can't wait for tomorrow.

The Shards of Sylvia's Soul
In the little village of Nyberg, Sylvia is dreaming of a future with Rebecca at her side. Together, they could move overseas. But when bandits attack, all of her tender dreams turn to ashes. Forced out of her home, Sylvia forges new bonds with the Fri, the women who have taken it upon themselves to protect their little corner of the world. She also meets Afi, a strange bandit with a stern face and a soft heart. Saving each other from certain demise, they join in a bond which irreversibly ties their souls together. So bonded, they attempt to settle down. When a distant heir to the Crown asks for aid to reunite the country, Sylvia sees her chance to finally right all the wrongs committed against her family. In the pursuit of the throne, Afi and Sylvia come to risk their very lives. Sylvia uncovers the relationship between soul, magic, and divinity itself, but even in research, there is peril. It is not an easy task to balance the strain on her soul with the demands of the upcoming battle. In this world, the soul is not an incorporeal concept. To the contrary, the human soul is a physical object, an organ which resides in the chest of each individual. It is a great source of strength, but also of vulnerability. Hardship can leave scratches and blemishes, or even break the soul in two. The soul is each person's connection to divinity, to the magic which is ubiquitous to the world. It enables the cultivation of gods, but old legends warn of demons emerging in the presence of corrupt intention, and of hollow warriors, with no soul at all. There are two sides to every page.
