《Bloodthirsty(KNJ)》28. A Bad Idea
Advertisement
"Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God, this is such a bad idea-"
"Just shut up already! You've been repeating this for an hour now. You can just go back if you want!" Nari said as she turned around, her phone's torch blinding her whining friend.
"You know I'm right. Coming here was a stupid idea!"
"Then why did you come?"
"Because I couldn't let you be stupid alone, damn it!"
They stared into each other's soul for a good minute before Nari sighed and turned back around to start walking again. Soha was close behind.
"Where the hell are we anyway? And why did we have to park the car and walk?"
"Oh my God, Soha I already told you, we're passing through a forest and it'll be hard to drive through a f** ing forest, obviously."
"But surely there is a road to wherever we're going-"
"He'd see us coming, we can't afford to let anyone know where we are. At least not yet."
"Nari, you do realize that Jungkook is tracking you all the time, right? Your phone, your jewelry, maybe even your shoes could have tracking devices."
Nari stayed silent as they finally entered the forest. It was a little dark, no surprise there, but the full moon was pouring its light upon them, making it easier to see. They still needed a torch, though. Just in case they came across something...
It was oddly quiet. They could hear insects doing whatever noise they usually did at night, but it was nothing scary. Nari stopped at some point and checked the map on her phone. She wasn't sure she remembered the way correctly. She used to go hiking in this forest with her parents when she was little and she knew it by heart. But it had been over twenty years since she last came here so she needed something to guide her.
"Nari-"
"Jungkook is too busy to track me down right now. They won't know we're gone until about..."
She trailed off as her phone started buzzing. She swore before rejecting the call and putting her phone on airplane mode.
"That was earlier than I had anticipated," She muttered.
"What?"
"That was Jin calling, I'm guessing he noticed our absence first. He'll inform the others now. I thought he had a meeting? Why did he come back to my house?"
Soha stopped in her tracks then. She cast a skeptical look at her friend and frowned.
"I just realized something, Nari. The way we sneaked out of the house, wasn't it too easy? I mean the officers are all around the house."
"Honey, we had to wear police uniforms. How would they have suspected anything?"
Soha thought about the uniforms they discarded a while ago and had a small smile.
"Yeah, you were really prepared."
"I was."
"How long have you been conceiving this plan? How did you get the uniforms?"
"I borrowed them, no time to explain. Now let's hurry before the boys catch on."
They walked in silence for what seemed like an eternity before they finally got a glimpse of the house. Nari was having mixed feelings as they approached.
Fear.
Fear of the unknown, of what might happen to them, to Namjoon, her Namjoon. Fear that they might be too late, fear that her plan could put her husband in danger and her baby or even her friends... both her and Soha carried a few weapons, but she wasn't even sure they would be of any help. What if he had men grading the premises?

Anticipation, excitement.
She might be able to see the love of her life at last. She would then confront the monster who abducted him, the serial killer who was responsible for her sleepless nights and long working days, trying to catch him. She would get the answers to all her questions.
Melancholy, sadness.
This house was where she bonded with her mother and where they spent more time together. In Seoul, both her parents were always busy. She saw more of Serena than she did chairman Park, but here things were different. They went on walks together, they watched TV together, they cooked and ate together. They laughed and played for hours. She felt loved and wanted here. She thought she would never see this house again after her mother's death. And yet, here she was, to catch a killer and save her husband.
Impatience.
She just couldn't wait to get all this done with. It had been almost a year since they were working on this case. They had wasted enough time.
"This is insane," she heard Soha whisper under her breath as they stopped a few feet away from the giant gate.
"I wonder how it feels like to live in such a creepy house."
Nari rolled her eyes at that. It did look creepy. And dark. And scary. But to her, it was a place full of beautiful memories.
"It wasn't always this creepy. Anyway, follow me." She said as she walked around the high fences, away from the main gate.
"Of course, we can't enter through the main gates..." Soha mumbled as she was looking around the deserted area.
For some reason, something wasn't sitting right with her. She had that feeling again as if someone was lurking in the dark, as if they were being watched... There were probably cameras around the house, that would be a given, right? But still, something wasn't right.
Were they walking right into a trap? One thing was for sure though, they were walking into the lion's den.
Nari led them through a small iron door in the back of the house. It was so old and rusty that it gave in right away. The silence in the courtyard was deafening and Soha still couldn't shake off the bad feeling she had. The place really looked creepy. The mansion was surrounded by grass and weeds, making it a perfect snake's nest. The walls were dark and dirty, it was obvious that the place wasn't taken care of, at least on the outside. They hadn't seen the inside yet.
And no, it was no different. It was gloomy and even darker than the outside. Obviously. Windows were empty, whatever was there -glass or wood- must've been broken long ago. The wooden floor was covered in mold and dust. The smell was unbearable, Soha almost puked. But strangely enough, Nari didn't seem phased by any of it. Maybe it was the pregnancy.
As they walked into the huge hall, Soha was trying to imagine what it must have looked like back in the day, when it was actually inhabited. Meanwhile, Nari was reminiscing about her life in the mansion when she was four. Or was it three? She still remembered the warmth, the happiness, the love... But it was all gone now.
They arrived in what used to be a colorful living room with a huge chandelier hooked on the ceiling, in the center of the room. As expected, it was now empty and dirty as well. The spiraling stairs were as large as she remembered but were no longer covered in dark green carpets. She sighed and walked towards them, Soha on her heels.

"Maybe we should think about this-"
"We're already here, Soha."
"Yeah, but is he really here? Don't you think it had been too easy? And it's too quiet."
"Exactly. It's too quiet and secluded. Our neighbor is about fifty miles away and everyone thinks that the house has been abandoned. No one would come in here to look for a serial killer-"
"Except us," Soha said distractedly.
But Nari ignored her and continued.
"This is the perfect hideout for a criminal. Especially since there is a basement."
"Really?"
"Yep."
"Then what are we doing upstairs, misses Kim?"
Nari smiled at that before stopping in front of the fifth door to their right.
"I'm here to check something, I won't be long."
"What is it?"
But she was already pushing the door open and entering the room. It was spacious and had one big window. It was in the same state as the rest of the house and Soha wondered what her friend could be looking for. They walked into the room in silence. Nari dropped to the floor and started tapping it with her hands. Suddenly, a door opened in front of them leaving Soha flabbergasted.
What the hell?
Nari had a satisfied smile on her face as she headed towards the newly opened door.
"Don't tell me this is-"
"It's a secret passage leading to the basement, of course. I doubt he'd see us coming."
"I'm sure he already knows we're here. You did notice the cameras, right? Even though they were very small and well-hidden..."
"I have someone like Jungkook as my best friend, of course, I'd see them."
"Right," Soha said sarcastically as she followed her friend in the narrow staircase.
It wasn't pleasant, but after what felt like an eternity, they had finally arrived in the basement. It looked like a prison at first, with a long corridor with multiple doors facing each other. There was only one light bulb for such a long corridor and it was flickering. This gave them chills.
"This is new," Nari remarked as she walked cautiously while looking around.
Soha gulped and hesitated. This was definitely a bad idea and this place looked a lot like a serial killer's den. Did he torture his victims here?
"Nari, maybe we should go back and call Yoongi-"
She got interrupted by a clicking noise and a door opened slightly. It was probably an automatic door. Of course, everything would be automated. Nari rolled her eyes and walked to the door that had just opened. It was the fourth one on their left.
"Too late, hun." Nari murmured while walking through the opened door.
Soha gulped and followed her, but not without letting out a few swear words first. And she repeated, "this is such a bad idea."
"What the f**ck are you talking about? Where are they?"
Jin ran his hands through his dark hair and almost swore. Almost. He could never lose his cool, no matter the situation. He just couldn't. But then again how could he keep his cool right now? These two brats... They freaking disappeared! In a house guarded by police officers 24/7!
"Hyung, answer me where are they? How did they get away without anyone knowing?
Jin finally mustered up the courage to look into Yoongi's eyes. He sounded angry, but he was actually scared. No, he was panicking. Soha was the woman he loved after all, and he cared a lot about Nari. But Jin himself was close to losing it as well, the woman he loved was missing. He'd already lost her to a man, he wouldn't lose her again to a killer too! It was all his fault, he shouldn't have left them.
But he couldn't have imagined that they would do something like this either, the house was surrounded by the police!
"I have no idea, Yoongi. I'm sorry."
"You're sorry? How is you being sorry going to help?"
"Yoongi-"
"Hyung."
Everyone turned to Jungkook. He was on his computer tracking Nari through her cellphone. Of course, he also put a tracking device on her shoes so it was even better. But her location wasn't the only info he had. He also figured out how they managed to escape without the police officers noticing.
"Of course, they would," Jungkook murmured before turning his computer towards the others.
They were standing in the dining room ever since Jin came to find them in Namjoon's studio in panic, asking them if they had seen the girls. It had been only ten minutes and they were all on edge. Yoongi seemed very close to losing his mind and Jin looked horrible as well. Hoseok was being unusually quiet and his bloodshot eyes were fixed on whatever. Jongin and Sehun were interrogating the officers outside and they were showing no mercy.
The three men watched the screen as their eyes widened in surprise. Well, except for Jin, he was utterly horrified. He obviously didn't know Nari as much as the others did.
"Where did they get those?! And how could they- oh my God!"
"When it comes to these two, nothing should surprise us anymore. Did I not tell you about the time when they traumatized the mighty Min Yoongi?"
"Shut up Hoseok, this is serious."
"They'll be fine, they're some of the best detectives out there."
"Plus, if she kept her phone on, it means that she expects us to find them," Jungkook added.
There was a short silence and Yoongi seemed to have calmed down a little. He rubbed his eyes and blinked a few times.
"So what now?"
"We follow through with the initial plan-"
"We don't have time anymore, we have to get them!"
"Hyung, let me finish. What I mean is, we follow through with our plan, but we'll have to change the order."
"What do you mean?"
Hoseok turned to Jungkook and asked, "Is it over yet?"
"Unfortunately, no. I Haven't been able to hack into his security system yet. This guy is good."
"How much longer do you think it'll take?"
Jungkook bit his lower lip and shook his head. He didn't want to get their hopes up, but he didn't want to discourage them either. However, he couldn't lie to them.
"I don't know, it could be hours. If I could go there-"
"I already told you no. I don't want you anywhere near that psycho. If he's been stalking Nari and Namjoon all these years, he must know one thing or two about you too. You could be a target."
"But he never contacted me."
"I said no and it's not negotiable."
Jungkook rolled his eyes. "Fine, I'll stay here with Jin hyung."
"I don't want to stay behind!"
"Hyung you can't even fight! Just stay here and call for backup. Please."
A moment later, Yoongi, Hoseok, Jongin, and Sehun were on their way to the Parks' old mansion. Jongin and Sehun were filing them in about their interrogations of the officers appointed to Nari and Namjoon's house. Basically, none of them suspected a thing, even when they saw two female officers coming out of the house and living in Nari's car. They didn't think much of it and proceeded with their rounds as usual.
As they were talking, Yoongi was getting pissed off again. How dared these two act so recklessly? How dared they make everyone worry? Wasn't it enough that no one knew if Namjoon was still alive? They had to put themselves in danger too? He couldn't even imagine how he'd feel if something happened to them. He swore again and punched the stirring wheel.
"Hyung, calm down, we'll find them," Hoseok said with a reassuring smile.
"How can you be so sure?"
"Nari is a fighter, she wouldn't go down so easily," Sehun intervened.
"And so is Soha. Plus, they are smart. I'm sure they're trying to buy us time as we speak. Just trust them, okay?"
"I hope you're right. And after everything is over and everyone is safe, they'll be punished. Harshly."
Hoseok had a nervous laugh while praying internally that everyone was indeed safe. At that moment, his phone rang. It was Jungkook. He picked up and put him on speaker.
"Hyung, why can't I reach Yoongi hyung?"
"I don't know... maybe his phone is dead. What's up?"
"You guys are almost there, in a couple of meters..."
Hoseok and the others looked around and it didn't seem like they would reach civilization anytime soon. What was he talking about?
"Jungkook, we're still driving along the forest, there is no sign of a house or anything."
"Exactly. You'll have to cross the forest."
"What? Why?"
"Do you want him to see you guys coming?"
"Well... not necessarily."
"So you'll go through the forest. It's not too long of a walk. You'll see the mansion right away, can't miss it."
"Fine, we'll let you know if we-"
"There! Park right there!"
As Yoongi was slowing down his car, he noticed that there was another car parked right ahead. It was Nari's. He stopped his car and got out to check out the other car. He nervously approached the car and looked inside, as if he would find anything in there.
But of course, it was empty. He was disappointed for some reason, even though he knew damn well that he wouldn't find anything in there. It was just some clothing, probably the police uniforms they borrowed. He sighed and turned around to the other three who were giving him questioning looks. He shook his head and joined them.
"There's nothing, and it seems like they've arrived a while ago. Damn it. Who knows what would've happened if Jin hyung hadn't come back and noticed they were gone?"
"This is bad, they could be with him right now and-"
"Let's just go," Yoongi said curtly as he started walking towards the forest, torch in hand.
The others exchanged confused looks and followed after him. His mood swings were no joke right now. Then again, anyone would act a certain way in his situation.
It had been half an hour and they were still walking through the forest and it looked like they were lost. Hoseok looked at his phone again making sure they were following the same direction the GPS was showing them. And sure enough, they were. He sighed in frustration and stopped.
"Guys, wait."
They all did and turned to look at him.
"What?" Yoongi almost barked.
"I think we're going in the wrong direction-"
"What the f** Hoseok! We're wasting time here! We don't even know what's happening to them at this moment!"
"I know that! But I really thought this was the right way."
"Well, it's not! How do we fix this?"
"Guys!"
They all looked up at Sehun who was standing a few feet away. He pointed at something and as they approached him, they saw it too. It was a mansion. It was dark, imposing, and scary. It looked old, too. It was just as Jungkook had described it. Indeed, they couldn't have missed it.
Yoongi started running towards it and he didn't care if he left the others behind. He needed to find them, he needed to make sure they were all okay. Soha, Nari, Namjoon... He needed to save them. He prayed silently as he got closer to the heavy doors at the entrance.
Please keep them safe. Protect them from this psycho until we get there.
"Hyung!"
"Chief!"
Hoseok and Jongin called him out at the same time. He stopped and tried to calm his heavy breathing.
"The doors are open, isn't it strange?"
"Do you think it's a trap?"
Yoongi shrugged and kept going. The other three were following reluctantly.
"It's possible, but do we have a choice?"
It's a silence that answered him, but they kept following anyway. He smirked.
Good boys.
For some reason, the place seemed familiar to Yoongi, but he shook it off. He didn't have time to explore. Although, when they arrived inside the house, they heard screams. It was chilling. They exchanged panicked looks and started searching every room. They heard another scream and strangely enough, Yoongi knew exactly where to go. The basement.
When they arrived, they saw Soha standing in the middle of a long hallway with doors all along, left and right. She was facing one of the doors and she looked horrified.
"Soha," Yoongi breathed out and ran to her.

If you are new, don't worry too much about the first step of the series. Truly, this second part aims to cover most of what was done there. Those that have read it will know a few secrets and plot points before we see them. Though it shouldn't detract from your reading of this one. Honestly, the first one was a bit rough, but do as you will. I will warn that this will tackle some serious topics and might end up getting rather explicit in terms of what is done or seen by the characters. There is a bit to cover, so I'll explain what I can between chapters without overloading anyone, hopefully. -Cover Art drawn by Cozie [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
