"What an interesting surprise. You never come here."

Jungkook refrained from rolling his eyes as he sat on the other side of the huge desk. Chairman Park was the kind of person who never passed an opportunity to show how rich he was. Just looking at the decor of his office, you could guess his position in the company. For one thing, the desk was bigger than necessary, the seats were made with leather and they were comfortable as heck. Right before getting to the desk though, there was a living-room. Yes, you read that right. A damn living room. All neutral colors, fancy and appealing. Jungkook sometimes wondered how the old man focused on work in such an environment. It was cozy in here.

On the far left, there was a big cabinet with everything you could find in an office kitchen and a refrigerator right next to it. There was even a sink with running tap water. The wall on the right was the window. It was his favorite part here. Half the office was glass, offering a gorgeous view of Seoul since his office was on the thirty-first floor.

"It's an emergency," Jungkook answered finally.

"Is it about... ?"

Jungkook nodded and he noticed the old man's hopeful expression.

"Is there any news?"

"Not really, it's just that we found out something strange."

"What is it?

"I located his phone-"

"That's great news! Let's send people right away to search for him!"

"The police is taking care of it."

"Are they? I didn't receive any information about it," he said, confusion showing on his face.

Well, shit. I forgot the old man knows almost everyone in this country. I'm guessing he is in constant communication with Yoongi hyung's dad. Maybe I shouldn't have said that much. Yoongi hyung warned me that what we're doing right now is risky and secret. He chose not to make it official as it could get leaked and the killer would know all about our plans. Shit.

"Maybe no one had enough time to tell you anything. Anyway, I was curious about something, about the house you sold five years ago."

"You mean Serena's house? Yes, of course. It was Nari's heritage, but she didn't want anything to do with it since it reminded her too much of her mother... What about it?"

"Do you remember who you sold it to?"

This time, Jungkook was the one with a hopeful expression. He watched chairman Park as he was trying to remember.

"A certain Kim Gil, I think."

"Kim Gil?"

"Yes, I'm sure that was his name. I remember because it's so unusual."

"Can you tell more about him? Anything strange you remember? Did he live any information like an address or a phone number?"

"Why are you so interested in him? What's really going on?"

"Please, uncle, it's very important. I can't give you any more details, but it might save Namjoon's life. Please."

Chairman Park sighed and nodded before making a call. After he ended it, he looked up at Jungkook and smiled.

"My secretary took care of everything, I just read the contract. He'll tell you what you need to know."

"Thank you, uncle. I'll see you later."

"Please stay out of trouble, your parents are worried enough."

"I know," Jungkook smiled, "thank you."

He bowed and left chairman Park's office. A moment later, he was in secretary Song's office, taking a look at the file about the sale of the property. He didn't know what he was expecting to find, but he was definitely disappointed. No information at all, just an adress that looked fake and the name Kim Gil. The signature was just his initials, K.G.

"Secretary Song, do you remember the man at all? Was he young? Old?"

The other man frowned a bit, then shook his head before responding in his raspy voice. He always had that same voice tone, at least since Jungkook met him, around twenty years earlier. Now he was around forty, even if he didn't look like it, at all.

"He was young and he wore a face mask that day. I did ask him to show his face, but he told me he had allergies. He sounded nice though, and he paid in cash."

"Something particular about him? A tattoo? A mole? Anything?"

"Not really, he was dressed in all black and didn't show much skin. He sounded familiar, but I didn't try to know where I had heard him before. Oh, and his eyes were an interesting colour. Grey or blue pale? I'm not sure. It was five years ago and I wasn't really interested in his looks at the time."

So it was him. He even took the risk of going out and buying the house by himself? And why the name Kim Gil? Why did it sound so familiar? But it was obvious that it was a fake name as well. He wouldn't have given his real one, would he?

But then again, he was so confident that he just might have. There was even a possibility of him having an accomplice in the police. What could stop him?

"Thank you, secretary Song.'

"No Problem," he said with a smile.

Jungkook bowed to the older man before leaving his office.

He was still troubled by what the chairman said, but he was also glad he came. At least now he had a name to go on.

"A location?"

"So you didn't know?"

Commissioner Min sighed. There was some progress in the investigation and he didn't even know about it? How was that possible? He was paying someone extra money just to be informed of every little thing, how come he wasn't aware of this? Or could it be his son's doing? Was he doing a secret investigation? Was he hiding things on purpose?

"Min?"

"If they had really located him, how come no one is out there searching?"

"That's what I want to ask you. I feel like you guys aren't doing much to find my son-in-law."

"Now you're being unfair. I haven't slept in days. Between you and the minister, I can't even breathe and the press isn't sparing us either. Have you seen the last articles? Apparently, the police are good for nothing and we will be held responsible if something happens to him. He is so loved by the locals and people around the world, it's getting bigger than we can handle-"

"What do you mean bigger than you can handle?"

There was a silence as fear was overtaking chairman Park again. The last and only time he had felt such fear was when he was about to lose his wife. He was so young and so lost back then. He didn't know how he'd live without her. Now the same was about to happen to his daughter. How would she handle Namjoon's death? How about Namjoon's Family? How would they overcome this? Losing a child was something no one could ever get over. It would make anyone go crazy. This couldn't happen, not his best friends.

"I mean we're doing all we can, but it doesn't seem to be enough..."

"You've got to be kidding me. Min, this is not like you. What's really going on? Is there any indication that Namjoon won't come back alive? Or is he already...?"

"We don't know that yet. It's just that everyone on the case seems to be hitting a dead end. He doesn't leave any trace and it's as if he appeared out of nowhere."

"That's impossible."

"We found out something unexpected, though. He's been following Namjoon and Nari since they were teenagers."

Chairman Park wasn't feeling well all of a sudden. This monster had been following his precious daughter all these years? She had been exposed to such a psychopath and they didn't even know it? So many horrible things could have happened to her, he couldn't even bring himself to imagine them. His baby girl, his life, she could have suffered... actually, she could still suffer. He needed to protect her. He wouldn't lose her like he lost Serena.

"Did he say why?"

"I don't have the details yet. I have another call, so I'll hang up. We're really doing our best, Park, so don't worry. Tell chairman Kim not to worry too much either. We'll find his son."

"Of course, I'll talk to you later."

Chairman Park put down his phone and sighed. He looked at the time and wondered if he should go see his daughter. Their relationship hadn't got any better after the bomb he had dropped on her a few days ago. Wouldn't she be even more stressed out if she saw him? But he couldn't just talk to her on the phone either! He needed to be a father at least this time. He needed to protect her and be there for her.

As he was gathering his things, someone knocked at the door and it opened before he could even respond. Secretary Song? That was out of character, coming from him.

"Sir, you have to come with me. Now."

"What's going on?"

"It's the factory, I think there was an accident."

"Can't director Han handle it?"

"It's really bad, sir."

Chairman Park sighed again.

Seems like I won't be seeing you today either, Nari. I'm so sorry for letting you down again.

When Jungkook got to Nari and Namjoon's, he found Mimi and the prosecutor guy there. They came to visit and see if there was any news. The latter was probably Mimi's case but the prosecutor was in charge of the case, so of course, he knew everything. Why was he here anyway? Was he trying to win noona over now that Namjoon hyung was out of the picture? But that was temporary. His hyung would be back soon. They would find him.

"Jungkook? What happened?"

Jungkook gave one last hostile look to Jin, who rolled his eyes, before turning back to Nari.

"I talked to chairman Park."

"And?"

Everyone was looking at him expectantly, so he started feeling bad again. He felt so useless at the moment. If only he knew where that bastard was, he could hack his way into his computer and access all his data.

"I haven't found much, he just told me he sold the house to some guy and secretary Song did everything, your dad just signed the papers. The man secretary Song described is our guy for sure and-"

"Did he say a name?" Soha asked impatiently.

"Yeah, Kim Gil. I know it's a fake name so..."

"Kim Gil?!" Jin and Mimi said at the same time, causing everyone to stare at them.

"W-what, do you guys know him?" Jungkook asked, puzzled.

"Yeah, his name came up in two cases I worked on last year and also a few years ago," Jin answered with a frown. "Are you sure it's the name he said?"

"Yeah, I even read the documents."

"Damn it," Jin mumbled.

"What cases though?" Soha asked.

"Well," Jin started, "He died in a fire, at least that's what we thought, but the legist autopsied his body and found out that he was dead before his house was set on fire."

"Wait, that's the same guy. My dad said he died in a fire a few years ago... Damn it, this is too much of a coincidence. There has to be a connection."

"Exactly! I mean, what are the odds? Of all the houses he could've bought, why this one?" Jungkook said as he ran his fingers through his already messy hair.

"And most importantly, why is our serial killer using that guy's identity? Also, what did Jin find out during his investigation?" Soha added as she turned to give Jin an expectant look.

"What investigation?"

They all looked up and saw Yoongi, Hoseok, and Sehun coming in. Jongin was right behind them. They all looked equally tired. They must have been going around looking for clues all day. No one was sitting around doing nothing, which was really encouraging. Maybe they would find something. Maybe they would save Namjoon. Maybe they were closer than they thought. Maybe everything would go smoothly for once. Just maybe.

"First of all, hello and welcome back." Soha smiled. He smiled back and they were so cute.

They all greeted each other and the newcomers took the time to catch up on what they had missed. A moment later, everyone was sitting and waiting for Mimi and Jin to finish their stories. Mimi went first and told them about the deal her parents had with researcher Kim Gil and how they put an end to it.

"Wow, that's... wow. So this guy is Namjoon's clown? Or his twin brother?" Jongin said, his eyes widened.

"Technically Namjoon was born before him, so..." Soha shrugged.

"Technically, this guy shouldn't even have existed," Jungkook corrected. "Something is wrong with all of this. Even if they share the same DNA, it's not normal for them to look so alike. Even twins have some differences in appearance."

"Not all twins though-"

"THEY ARE NOT TWINS!! THAT TRASH OF A HUMAN LOOKS NOTHING LIKE MY NAMJOON!" Nari exploded after staying silent for a while.

There was a terrified silence and everyone was now staring at her. She looked furious, indeed. Her breathing was fast and hard, and she was looking straight ahead, at no one in particular. She closed her eyes and sighed. She then ran her fingers through her hair, which looked like a mess already, and opened her eyes again. They were a darker shade of green now.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have lashed out at you like that. You're all trying to help and I'm being an ungrateful b-"

"It's okay, sweetie," Soha said as she hugged her.

"We're sorry for making you uncomfortable," Yoongi added.

"Yeah, sorry noona. I think we lost ourselves a little in all this craziness. What I meant was that nothing about this guy coming into this world is natural."

"You sound like you're coming right out of a fantasy book. And everything does look like we're living in a fantasy world. I still can't believe this is real. My brother isn't here and I don't know if I'll ever see him again."

Jungkook, who was sitting a few feet from her got closer and hugged her. Nari got up and joined them.

"I'm so sorry, honey. Here I am whining about my husband missing when it's your brother who is missing. It'll be okay, don't worry."

She nodded and made an effort to smile. Nari admired her for how strong she was. She must be falling apart inside, but she was trying not to worry them. And there were also her parents. Knowing her, she knew she was trying not to worry them either. She was so young and already so selfless...

After a moment, the conversation started again. It was Jin's turn to say what he knew.

"We tried investigating, but we didn't find out much. Kim Gil is indeed a fake name. His real name was Oh Won Pil, he lived almost his whole life in England, where he studied genetics and became a professor researcher at a renowned University. But he had a work accident and decided to come back to Korea. I think he took that false identity so that people wouldn't know about that said accident."

"What was the accident?" Yoongi asked.

"He made some experiments on human beings without permission and he got caught. Some of his experiment subjects even lost the usage of their legs. He went to prison for a few months and was fired from the university he was working at. After he came back, he laid low, so we don't really know what he did for a living. But after hearing about the Kims story, I can guess what he did."

"So did you find the murderer?"

Jin gave Nari a worried look, then looked back at Sehun to answer his question.

"No, there was nothing to go on. No DNA, no prints, nothing. Not even a murder weapon. He actually died from blunt force trauma. At some point, we were told to close the case and move on."

"But don't you think that it could be reopened if we can prove that he is linked to our current case?"

"Oh, Hoseok has a point," Jongin nodded.

"Absolutely. I would just have to make a few calls, but there would be no reason for the prosecution not to reopen it. Unless...

"Unless what?"

"Maybe this goes beyond anything we imagine. Think about it. This man is fearless, it's as if he knows someone has his back. As is if he's untouchable."

"No one is untouchable," Jungkook said with a frown.

Jin ignored him, then looked over at Yoongi "I'll send you guys the file when I get back to my office."

"Thank you, hyung."

"No problem," He responded as he checked the time on his watch. "I have to go, I'm meeting a witness in 40 minutes. You guys let me know what you find, okay?"

"Wait, hyung you can't go!" Hoseok called out as he stood on his feet. "We have some news about the spy."

"You do?!" Nari, Soha, and Jungkook said at the same time.

Yoongi nodded and Hoseok took out his computer.

"Jongin and Sehun helped us track a few of our officers' movements over the two last months and even accessed their bank statements. A detective from kitten's team received an incredible sum of money every other month, so we traced it."

"Yeah, I've never seen that many zeroes in my life," Sehun observed.

"Dude, come on." Jongin chuckled.

"What? I'm not a chaebol's heir, like some people here."

The chaebols heirs he was referring to, Nari, Jungkook, Yoongi, Jin, and Mimi rolled their eyes in the same movement. Jongin smiled as he found them cute. He found that he liked the dynamic of this particular group when they were all together. If only they were gathering under some happy circumstances.

"Anyway, ready for our report?"

Same expression on all nine faces. Eyes almost falling out of their sockets, and mouths wide open. They were all speechless. Three million dollars every two or three months....? How, where did he get that much money to pay a mere detective just to betray and spy on their colleagues? How did that detective deceive them all? How did no one see this coming?

"This is... wow... You really can't trust people nowadays, huh." Sehun said, breaking the stunned silence.

"Right? I would never have suspected Eungi, honestly." Jongin agreed.

"She was so sweet to everyone, I felt like she had my back every time we worked together when in fact..." Soha added.
