《Bloodthirsty(KNJ)》19. The Calm Before the Storm

Human beings are so pitiful.

We walk on earth as if we own it, as if we are entitled to everything around us.

We don't think about those who suffer as long as we get what we want.

We think everything good will last forever.

We take life for granted.

Being healthy.

Breathing.

Seeing.

Feeling.

We take it all for granted.

Until we are about to get robbed of all these privileges.

That's when we come to our senses.

"Please... please let me go, please." the young woman begged in a weak voice.

He crouched in front of her and caressed her jaw and neck. Then an evil smirk appeared on his face and his grey eyes darkened.

"It's too late, sweetheart." He said in his deep voice.

"Why-why are you doing this?"

"You have enough energy to chat, it seems."

"P-please, Nam-"

"DON'T CALL ME THAT!! My name is Kim HyunSoo! HyunSoo!!!"

She started breathing with difficulty and her eyes were closing. She made one last attempt to beg for her life, but she was out of breath and she was too weak. He looked at the stem he was using to draw her blood. The flow had slowed down.

He smiled again.

It fascinated him how he could finish this in a few minutes, but he didn't. What was the fun in that? It was better to make them bleed a little every day, wasn't it? It made the fun last longer and he got to listen to them beg him and cry.

Their crying was music to his ears...

He took a look at the young woman in front of him and laughed. She looked perfect now, like art. Like his art. And she had less than an hour left. Great, now he could focus on his last victim.

He turned around to take a look at her, but he was in for a surprise. Her spot was empty and the door was open.

How did he not hear anything? He swore and ran to the door. She couldn't have gone far. This place was too far from the main road and she was getting weak as well. She hadn't eaten in 30 hours.

He swore as he looked through the tall grass. He really didn't have time for this. He ran his hands through his purple hair and screamed. Now his migraine was starting too. And he couldn't afford to go through another crisis today.

He didn't have time.

He suddenly stopped in his tracks and took long breathes to calm himself down.

Right, I'll let her go. It won't interfere with my plans, anyway. The police won't get to me on time.

He smirked and walked back to the barn. This one would be the last body instead, then he'd start the real game.

What he came back here for.

Warmth.

Comfort.

Love.

Soreness.

An arm around her waist.

Wait, what?

She sat up quickly and looked around. She gasped as her eyes fell on him. He was sleeping peacefully and he looked like an angel. Why was he so cute?

She laid back down and kept looking at him. She started remembering what had happened the night before and blushed. He really was a beast, both on stage and... in bed.

She lifted her hand to touch him and that's when she noticed the big diamond on her finger.

Holy shit! An engagement ring?!?! How? When? Where?

Did he slide it on her finger while she was sleeping? Well, duh.

She couldn't believe it. She was so excited! She sat up and looked at him with a huge smile on her face. She wanted to wake him up, but she knew he was tired after all the work he put in the night before. She blushed again at the thought, then she looked back at her ring. She really couldn't hold it in anymore.

She sat on top of him and kissed him slowly. He snorted but didn't wake up. She kissed him again and pulled at his cheeks. He slowly opened his beautiful eyes and looked at her for a moment. He really looked tired. She started feeling bad for waking him up, but then he smiled and held her by the waist.

"Good morning, baby." He said in his sleepy voice, which was sexy as heck.

She leaned in to kiss him again.

"Thank you, sweetie. It's beautiful."

"I'm glad you like it."

"Yes, I do, but I'll let you sleep now."

She gave him another kiss and left the bed.

She took a quick shower and came back into the room, all dressed up and ready for work. But then her eyes fell on his sleepy form once more.

She wanted to kiss him so bad.

She took another look at her ring and started dancing. She was so excited! She wanted everyone to know. She sent Soha and Jungkook a picture, then she put her phone back on the nightstand. She sat on the bed and watched him sleep. She knew she was being creepy, but she was so in love!

🤣

And she was officially engaged! They were going to get married! She didn't care much about marriage when he suddenly brought it up at first. But now... For some reason, she couldn't wait to come home to Namjoon's dimpled smiles and mini Namjoons jumping and screaming around.

At that moment, he moved, then opened his eyes again and smiled as soon as his eyes fell on her. She smiled too and showed off her ring. He laughed and stretched his arm to hold her hand.

"Maybe I should have made it more special. Romantic dinner, going down on one knee and-"

"That's overrated, sweetie."

"I was told that women like that."

"I don't care, about all that."

He watched her dreamily and smiled again. She pocked one of his dimples and he kissed her hand.

"Are you okay?"

She frowned and gave him a questioning look.

"Yesterday... I didn't hurt you, did I?"

She blushed yet again and shook her head.

Nari, stop f*cking blushing!

"I'm fine, Namjoon."

He didn't say anything for a while and kept looking at her. He was rubbing the back of her hand with his thumb absently. She frowned again.

"What? You don't believe me?"

"I'm sorry."

"About what?"

"I couldn't control myself yesterday although I wanted to take it slow. It's just that I've been dreaming of this moment for so long and you were hotter than I've ever imagined in that lingerie and-"

She interrupted him with a kiss and before she knew it, she was laying in bed again and he was on top of her. And he was still naked!

"You didn't hurt me, sweetie. Whatever you did, I liked it. Very much." She murmured against his lips.

He stopped kissing her and looked her in the eyes.

"Really?"

"Really." She said with a smile.

He kissed her in the neck this time and she could feel him getting hard.

"I don't think that's a good idea, Joonie." She protested weakly.

But he wasn't listening and started unbuttoning her shirt instead.

"Joon," she said, panting "stop, I really don't want to be late for work."

He stopped kissing her and just looked at her with eyes full of lust.

"Well, you started it." He said with a smirk.

"And we can finish later, come on." She answered with a wink.

He kissed her one last time and let her go. She got up and fixed her clothes before taking her bag. She opened her safe to take her gun out.

"I was thinking..."

"What?"

"We should go on a date to celebrate this."

She turned around and watched him while she was hooking her gun on the side of her belt.

"When?"

"Let's say tomorrow?"

"I'm not sure... Let me get back to you in the evening, yes?"

"Okay."

"I'll see you tonight then."

She kissed him one more time, then left.

When she arrived at the precinct, she was greeted by an overly excited Soha and a grinning Jungkook. And the first thing they did was check out her ring.

"As expected from my hyung." Jungkook said proudly with a nod.

"Wow, he went all out huh. It's beautiful."

"What's going on there?" Ji Ho asked from a few feet away.

"Nari got engaged!" Soha screamed, and everyone came towards her and surrounded her at once. They bombarded her with questions and compliments. She couldn't stop smiling. She was on cloud nine.

Even Yoongi congratulated her with a huge gummy smile and a hug. Aw, he was adorable.

But then, her beautiful day was spoiled by the media yet again. It was everywhere. They even had a shot of her ring! How?!

And she kept getting calls. Again.

She had to explain to her dad, Namjoon's and Jungkook's parents that he had proposed only this morning and that they would hold a get-together just between family members to make an official announcement.

She was still smiling at Namjoon freaking out on the phone just a few minutes ago. The poor baby didn't know how to respond to his parents' questionings. That's probably why they had called her.

A moment later, Soha and Nari went out to investigate the case, but to no avail. They checked CCTVs around the areas where they found the bodies and places where the victims went often. But it was a dead end. It was getting frustrating, to say the least. They didn't know what to do anymore and since Nari's stomach was grumbling, they bought some food and went back to work.

As they were settling at the table in the back and unpacking their food, they saw Jin coming out of Yoongi's office, followed by Yoongi himself.

Soha and Yoongi exchanged a cute smile while Jin was greeting them.

"We were on our way to get lunch, you guys can join us if you want?" Jin suggested while looking at Nari. She was still ignoring him.

"Oh, we're already eating-"

"You can just give it to someone, I'm sure a lot of your colleagues haven't had time to get their lunch yet."

They all looked at Nari who still hadn't said anything yet. Jin sighed and ran his hands through his hair.

"Look, Nari, I'm sorry okay? Can you please talk to me now?"

There was another silence, then Nari put down her chopsticks and looked up at him.

"What would we talk about, Jin?" She asked coldly. "What is it that you'd want to talk to me about?"

"I said I was sorry-"

"Sorry about what? Confessing your feelings to me? Trying to break Namjoon and me up?"

"Break you up? I never did such a thing!" Jin protested.

"You couldn't even if you wanted to."

"Nari-"

"I think you should go, I'm sure Yoongi is very hungry right now."

Yoongi seemed surprised to hear his name being mentioned, then he sighed.

"Hyung let's just go."

At that moment, there was a commotion at the front of the precinct. They heard a few screams and a lot of noises. A moment later, Namjoon appeared with a huge smile on his face and he bowed to a few officers on his way to where they were seated.

When his eyes fell on Nari, his smile widened. He was so cute!

"I'm so sorry." He said.

"Why?" She asked as she stood up and hugged him.

"For freaking out on you earlier." He said before giving her a quick kiss.

She remembered him apologizing and telling her how bad he felt for putting her in this situation right after he freaked out about his parents calling. But it really wasn't his fault. It was these people's fault for not respecting his privacy.

"Congrats on becoming a couple, you two." He said to Soha and Yoongi. They both blushed cutely and thanked him.

"And congratulations on your engagement, too."

"Yes, congrats and the ring is gorgeous."

He bowed and thanked them as well. Then he turned to Jin and his smile disappeared instantly.

"What is he doing here?"

Soha's eyes grew bigger at his sudden change of mood. Nari held his hand and smiled tightly. She knew this expression. Oh, she knew it too well. The last time he wore it, he almost went to jail for assault...

"He is the prosecutor on the case, remember?" She said in a low voice.

He frowned and took a step towards Jin. She held his hand tighter.

"Namjoon," she called but he ignored her.

Jin wasn't reacting to the scene at all. He was just watching them with a poker face. He seemed unbothered.

"I just have one thing to say, prosecutor. Don't get too close, she is mine. Understand?"

Jin had a laugh and slid his hands in his pockets.

"As long as she doesn't let me, I won't try anything." He said with a shrug.

Namjoon took another step forward and he looked really pissed this time. Nari was getting scared now. She hadn't seen him like this in a long time and he was getting to that point where she wouldn't be able to control him anymore. All because of Jin? Wasn't he overreacting?

"Jin, please shut up!"

"Well, your boyfriend started it."

"Boyfriend? I'm not her boyfriend, I'm her fiance. We're getting married soon and you better stay away from her!"

But Jin just laughed and Nari was now using all her strength to push Namjoon away from the scene. Everyone was now looking at them and some were even recording them on their phones.

"You're marrying her soon, but you're not married yet so..."

"So what? I told you that I'd never love you, Jin." Nari gritted.

"You don't know what tomorrow is made of, Nari. Everything could change in a second. An idol could become a serial killer-"

"What the f**, Jin? Shut up!"

Now Namjoon was confused. It's true that he wasn't considered a suspect, but with all the testimonies and the circumstantial evidence, a few people believed that he could become one. And these people included Jin. It wasn't surprising, since he hated his guts.

Nari was getting desperate. She turned to Yoongi and begged him silently. Fortunately, he got the message and came to her rescue.

"Hyung, stop. We've been through this."

"Right, and you know what my position is," Jin answered Yoongi and then turned to Namjoon, who was still confused.

"Enjoy your sweet little life while you can, you might lose everything anytime soon."

With that, he walked away followed by Yoongi. Nari waited a minute or two before dragging Namjoon outside.

"What was that about?" He asked as they reached his car.

"It's nothing you need to worry about, sweetie. You should go back to work."

He watched her without saying anything, then he hugged her.

"I'm sorry I caused a scene. I shouldn't have come here without telling you. It's just that I needed to see you after what happened this morning with the press."

He let her go and looked her in the eyes.

"I'm sorry."

She shook her head and smiled.

"Stop being sorry already. I'll see you tonight."

He nodded and kissed her before getting into his car. As she watched him leave, Soha appeared out of nowhere and Nari almost lost it.

"That was some drama, out there."

Nari gasped and turned towards her.

"You scared me!"

"Oh, sorry. But seriously, what's with Jin?"

"I have no idea. I don't know what he is thinking and the way he acted today makes me nervous."

"What do you mean?"

Nari sighed and voiced the dark thought that had just crossed her mind.

"What if he tries everything to incriminate Joonie? What if he becomes biased and causes trouble?"

They both exchanged a look but stayed silent. Nari could see in her friend's eyes that she was getting worried as well.

"What are you looking at?"

"You."

She rolled her eyes but kept battering the dough. She was craving bread and she felt like backing, so she bought the ingredients on her way home and went to Yoongi's. His oven was bigger and way more sophisticated than hers.

Well, having a rich boyfriend had its perks.

"If you have time for that, then you can help me."

He left his stool and walked up to her to give her a back hug.

"I can do more than helping you bake."

"Oh, really?" She said absentmindedly.

"Did you know? One of my fantasies is having sex in the kitchen."

She stopped dead in her tracks as her heart started pounding.

There we go again.

Why was it so easy for him to turn her on? They only made love for the first time the night before, but she had a feeling he was trying to make up for all his years of virginity or something.

They barely slept at night, and in the morning, well... they were at it again.

And now, too?

"Honey, you can't mention those things like that, out of the blue."

"Why not?"

"Well, it's... troubling. Plus, since last night, we've been-"

"But I can never get enough of you!" He said as he held her tighter. Then he grabbed one of her boobs and squeezed it.

She gasped and turned around to face him. He was smirking.

"You!"

"I couldn't help it," He shrugged and gave her a peck on her lips.

"Yoongi, seriously I need to get this done."

"Fine, fine so what can I help you with?"

She grinned and gave him a pair of gloves.

"So... your prosecutor friend..." She started a moment later.

"What about him?"

"He really has it for Nari, doesn't he?"

Yoongi smiled and nodded.

"He does, but now that she has rejected him, I don't know what he'll do."

"Is he usually like this when he's in love?"

"She is his first love."

She looked shocked.

"Seriously??!! At 31? Is he a virgin too?"

"No, but he's never been in love before."

"Holy molly this is not good. I fear the worst."

"Okay, you're being dramatic," Yoongi said with an eye roll.

"No, I'm not. You saw what happened there. I think he really wanted to hurt Namjoon. Babe, please keep an eye on him, okay?"

Yoongi watched the young woman and frowned. Her serious expression and tone were starting to worry him now. She was good at reading people and she was always right. Did she see something in Jin that he didn't? Did the fact that he grew up with him cloud his judgment?

But Jin wouldn't hurt a fly, would he?

"You're scaring me, babe."

"It's just that I have a bad feeling about all this. Namjoon is such a sweet man, I don't want anything bad to happen to him. The same goes for Nari."

There was silence after that and that's when Yoongi decided to address the elephant in the room.

"What if he is our suspect?"

"He is not," She answered with confidence.

"How would you-"

"He doesn't give off that vibe. He doesn't have the expression of someone who is hiding something. At least not something this big and twisted. You on the other hand..."

"What? I'm not hiding anything!"
