《BLOODTHIRSTY》19. Taken back

It hasn't been that long since she had cried. In fact it had been 5 minutes ago since she had cried her eyes out. The news about her brother being in the hospital broke her heart.
As she and Gio grew up, he was always in and out of the hospital. Not because he was sick, but because he always got caught up in fights. Without a dad in picture Gio had it hard. Always fighting and breaking parts of his body. My mom had always had to work harder to be able to pay all the hospital bills. Now that Winter thought about it, her mother had it hard too without her dad in the picture. A single mother with her two kids. Winter thought her mom was her super hero as a kid. Because she truly was in her eyes. However it took my brother some time to realise he was making it hard on my mother's part.
Winter could clearly remember the first time her brother had been hospitalised. He used to have bad friends, and his friends weren't the trustworthy types. She remembered the way he got beaten to a pulp. His body covered in bruises and wounds. His face wasn't recognisable. Gio had trouble with walking on his own, but she was always there. Gio had trouble seeing and he almost went blind, but thank goodness that didn't happen.
When it came to her brother, she wouldn't mind going to hell for him. He was her first friend she had ever made and she couldn't ask for a better brother. He had always been the first to defend her and protect her. He always supported her no matter what. It was safe to assume he loved her just as much she loved him.
So when she received a phone call from the hospital telling her, her brother had been stabbed, her world kind of turned up side down. She immediately dropped everything that she was doing and tried getting dressed as fast as possible.
"Everything okay ma?" She heard Issa ask her in the background.
"Yes..." She tried to say but when she turned around she saw the way Issa was looking at her. Her eyebrows raised, warning Winter not to lie to her.
"Well no..my brother h-has been stabbed." Winter tried to get it over her chest, but she couldn't help the tears from falling down again.
Issa rushed to her side and took Winter in her arms. Placing her hands on Winters back and pulling her closer towards Issa. "I'm sure your brother is alright Winter, you know how he is. Always getting into trouble, I thought he was pass that phase." Isabelle Said outloud and Winter let out a deep sigh.
"I-I guess not." She said outloud trying to mask her disappointment, however Isa caught on.
"I'm sure he doesn't do it on propose." Isa told her and tried to put Winter at ease, but nothing worked so far. The frown on her face was still there.
Her heart was slowly breaking. She wasn't sure how much she could take anymore. When the people she loves get harmed she gets scared, terrified. It reminded her that nothing last forever. Even life has its limits and she didn't want her loved ones to ever reach those limits. She didn't want them to leave her. Winter was scared about what will become of her if anyone she every care about left her.
Winter got dressed and was ready to walk out and take the public transportation. However Issa grabbed her keys instead and they walked out of the building together. Reaching her car that was parked in the parking lot, and together they drove off.

Winter wasn't sure if the hospital were able to reach her mother, so she called her to check if her mother was aware. Her phone rang a couple of times, and than she could hear her mother's voice on the other line.
"Hello?" Her mother voices made the hairs on Winters body stand up. She didn't know how to break down the news.
"Euh..hi mom." She finally was able to speak up. "Did the hospital call you?"
The other line went silent.
"Mom?" Winter called out.
"Yes, they called me earlier. Your brother is in the hospital." If Winter didn't know she was speaking to her mother, she would say this voice that just spoke to her didn't seem familiar.
Her mother always spoke with power in her voice. It didn't matter what had happened, she never let her sadness show. Not when her brother got hurt the first time. In fact her mother never shed a tear, she was more furious than sad. Not the second time he got in the hospital. Not even when Winter herself ended up being hospitalised, but she knew her mom had been sad. Emotions and her mother never went well together, but this time it was different. Maybe this time she really broke down. Maybe her mom has had enough.
"Y-yes, I'm on my way. Please mom be careful when your making your way to the hospital." Winter told her mother with a heavy heart.
"I know baby, I'll be careful. Call me when you get there." Her mother spoke in her normal tone again, but they both knew she was masking the way she was feeling. Mother had always been like that.
"Okay Mom." She said softly. Before any other words could leave her lips, her mom had hanged up already.
The car drive to the hospital was silent. Winter had too many thoughts at the moment. Her not so peaceful world went into chaos. She didn't want to cry again, she had enough of crying, but every-time she thought back to the call, she finds herself biting her lip. Closing her eyes and whispering things under her breath. If something happened to her brother, she wasn't sure how she would take it, she wasn't sure how her mother would take it.
When they arrived at the hospital, Winter made her way to the receptionist. "Hey, I'm brother hospitalised some hours ago. I want to know which room he is in." Winter panicked and completely forgot she didn't give the lady his name. "It's Giovanni Makrove." Winter said in a rush.
"His in room 313A-"
"Thank you very much." Winter said politely before storming off.
With Issa right next to her she made her way to his room. Knocking a couple of times before entering. Her brother laid there and smiled at the sight of his sister. The doctor hadn't left the room yet, and made eye contact with the dark skinned girl.
"Hello your Miss Makrove right his sister?" The doctor asked and Winter nodded her head.
"Will he be okay?" She asked him worried.
"Yes he will. He has been stabbed 3 times, but they missed his vital points. The wounds have already been stitched, and he would be able to leave in a couple of weeks." The doctor informed her and Winter finally was able to ease up.
"Thank you doctor." She said in her raspy voice, from all the crying.
"No problem Miss." He smiles down to the girl and left the room.

Winter turned her head and watched her brother. Gio felt uneasy under his sister gaze, as if she was cursing him. She slowly made her way towards him and still didn't remove her eyes from him. She was upset, heartbroken and disappointed, yet saying it outloud and letting her brother know how she felt wasn't an easy task. Winter was sure her brother knew she was upset.
"Before you get mad at me, I was just defending a young boy." Winters eyes softened.
"The boy reminded me of my younger self you know. Getting drunk and doing stupid things." Gio looked at his sister and grinned.
"I'm glad you know you were being stupid." She told her brother honestly.
A chuckle escaped his lips. "Yeah, I was pretty stupid back than. But at least right now I feel like I did the right thing. I really couldn't let the kid get stabbed Winter. You're upset about that and I'm aware but I'm a strong guy, I'll make sure I recover fast." Gio said happly and tried to flex his muscles but winced at the pain instead.
"B-be careful Gio, please." She said and tried her best not cry. Isabelle watched the pair.
"Guys I'm getting coffee want anything?" She asked them and both of them shook their heads. She left the pair to talk it out, because to her it looked like they needed it.
"You're a kind person you know. The boy must me grateful you got stabbed in his place, but next time Gio be more careful please. I don't like hospitals and I surely don't like it when the people I love the most end up here." She didn't realise she was crying until Gio reached out to her face, and wiped her tears away with his thumb.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you like that." Gio said truthfully.
Her mother finally made it to the hospital and give her brother a hand full. She smiled satisfied at her mother reaction. Isabelle had stayed with the family at the hospital, she even cancelled her date with her boyfriend. She couldn't bring herself to leave Winter when she needed her. Even if Gio was alright, she had understood that there was something Winter feared. Isa had never been sure what it was, but she did know that Winter needed her.
"Shouldn't you go back to your dorm room?" Gio asked them with raised eyebrows, Winter glanced at the Clock that hanged next to the tv and realised he was right.
"I really don't want to leave." Winter complained and Isabelle laughed at her behaviour. Gio ended up pushing her out of his arms.
"Take care, both of you." Mother told them with a smile on her face.
"We will." Isa smiled to the lady and left the room with Winter right next to her.
When Winter left the room, she had realised that she had done a lot of crying that day. There was nothing wrong with crying. In fact it was good to let your emotions out. Yet it made Winter feel so vulnerable. It made her feel like she was being childish for crying, but that wasn't her speaking. She remembered the way Chris tried to make her stop crying. Because crying would never fix your issues and he was right, but she needed a way of letting it all out. In that moment crying seemed the best thing to do.
"I need to pee really badly, I'll be right back wait here." Isa turend around and went the opposite way.
While waiting she felt sick, she never liked hospitals. They made her think about all the life's lost but also saved. Winter started to lose her cool and decided to just walk a little further.
She looked up from her shoes and shock hit her on full force. Her legs glued on the floor, her hands trembling in fear. She thought she had cried enough but apparently she did not.
"Well look who we have here. My beloved, you have grown into a wonderful woman haven't you?" His voice was one of the many things she had tried to forget. His eyes scanning her up and down, looking for any changes and he found so many.
"You lost your tongue kitten? You know I don't like it when you don't answer back." His eyes went completely dark and Winter finally remembered, remembered all those stories she wanted to forget.
Winter wanted to run away, find her way back to Isabelle. She wanted to be able to disappear or be swallowed by the walls around her. It didn't matter where she was, she just wished she wasn't there at that moment at this time. The Man she tried so hard to forget made his way slowly towards her. Inspecting her from up close. Touching her cheeks and tracing her lips. Smiling at the way her heartbeat increased.
"You really have grown more beautiful over time haven't you?" The tall man expected her to speak. What she said didn't matter, he just wanted her to open her mouth. He wasn't talking to a wall, she was perfectly able to speak.
"I...Euh...I have to go." She tried getting away from him, but just before she could run off he grabbed her wrist.
"It's pointless to run from me my beloved." The man smiled moved his face closer to her ear. "Don't forget that your little friend that got you back home wasn't the one that saved you. He found you because I wanted him too, don't ever forget that." The man's nose lingered longer on her neck. Smelling her blood like he had done some years ago. He wondered if she also tasted the same. His fangs on full display and she took steps back, wish brought a frown on his face.
"My beloved." He smiled at the dark skinned girl in front of him.
"Maybe when I'm bored, I shall come back for you. Wouldn't you love that?" His words made the fear Winter already felt for him grow in size. Her hands started shaking so bad and her daydreams turned into nightmares. Her breathing became uneven.
Before she passed out she heard him say it. The words that had been stuck in her head for years. The words that no matter how many times she told them no human could ever understand the meaning behind it. The words that almost made her go into an institution.
"Vampires have time to lose." His dark eyes watched the way she fall on the ground and he smile made its way on his face again.
However she didn't.
