《BLOODTHIRSTY》01. Dark place

"You're such a pussy." Andrea told Brian also the same guy that was holding and following her like a scared puppy.
"You don't need to come for me like that Andrea, I just didn't expect it to be this dark." Brian said while whispering.
"We're in the woods in the middle of the night. What the fuck did you expect." Chris was holding his flashlight in his hand and looked behind him every few seconds to check if Winter was still there.
"Ugh just shut up Chris." Brian shouted at him and Winter could hear birds flying away because of the sudden noise.
"Guys this isn't the right time to start a fight." Winter told them but got scared by all the shadows surrounding her so she started walking faster.
"Eyy speedy gonzales slow down." Chris took Winters hand in his and looked at her for a brief moment before looking in front of him. She was sure he could sense how scared she was.
Why did she agree to tag along, why do she always make bad decisions. It's pitch black even with the full moon. Her gut feeling is telling her to just turn away and walk back home, but why does she keep on moving forward. She told her mom she was staying at Andrea's house but now she felt extremely bad. If something happens and mom found out Winter lied to her she would be pissed. Her stepdad would be furious, he had always taught her to stay out of trouble. She know that She will regret this later. In all honesty Winter was already regretting it. She could still turn back but leaving them behind wasn't a easy task.
"You can relax Winter. I'm here with you don't be afraid okay." He told Winter while holding her hand. She nodded even though it was already too late, she already was afraid.
"Wasn't there a urban legend about this place?" The once scared Brian looked completely calm.
"My mom used to always tell that story to keep me from coming here." Andrea said while looking up at the sky.
"So much for telling the story than." Chris laughed at Andrea and she playfully hit his arm.
"Tell the story." Brian suggested.
Andrea looked at him and smiled. "There was a man once that always came here to hunt. He kept on killing animals in the woods but one day something strange happened, he couldn't move anymore. He stayed still in his spot for what seemed like hours until something tapped his shoulder. He tried to gain his strength back and shoot whatever animal was behind him, but when he turned around there was no animal."

All the noises that Winter heard before stopped, the birds didn't make any noise anymore. The shadows around her seemed to grow taller and bigger. The trees didn't look beautiful anymore, it looked as if we were surrounded by sinister beings. A shiver went down her body when she heard the next words that flew out of Andrea's mouth.
"He was met with something that was not human. Legend says that the man was never found again." Andrea finished her story and walked towards this big tree and set down. "Let's take a break my foot is hurting."
We sat down and Winter glanced at Brian how was checking Andrea's foot for any injuries. "You want me to carry you?" Brian asked Andrea and she nodded happily.
We arrived at this lake that surprisingly had somewhat clear water. There weren't any signs indicating that this lake was unsafe but everyone assumed that it was safe. Andrea and Brian started undressing and Winter was confused and concerned.
"What are you doing?" She asked them taken-back.
"Skinny dipping." Andrea answered her simply.
"Guys I don't think this is safe and it's cold, you will get sick." She tried warning them but got ignored.
"Chris please say something."
"Winter is right, it's not safe to swim here." He told them but they laughed it off.
"We won't die because of swimming here." Andrea answered back.
Winter rolled her eyes at her, she had watched enough horror movies to know that if they were about to die this was the perfect time. Now she was thinking about what she should say or what she should do to get them out of there. This isn't a good idea, why are they being stupid. Winter started getting overwhelmed again. Is something happens to them she won't be able to live with herself because she could have prevented it. Chris was looking at her and placed his hand on her forehead.
"You okay?"
"This isn't fun anymore I want to go home." She told him.
"We can't just leave them here."
"And that's the problem, why can't they listen and get out of there." Winter asked and looked at how there were playing in the water.
We were supposed to walk around and explore and than walk back home. This isn't what we had planned and they know that. Now she was in the middle of the woods with two teens swimming in a lake that could be dangerous and Winter might not even know her way back home If she wanted to go on her own. So much for trusting them. Honestly Winter was convinced that she just won the price of stupidest being alive. She took her phone to call her older brother but She had no service. Were we that deep in the woods, she wondered. Without thinking it through Winter started walking away on her own.

"Wait Winter were supposed to stay together." Chris screamed her way. But all the noises that She was hearing made her want to keep on going and walk away. "Winter stop." Chris shouted after her but she didn't listen to him anymore. This was a stupid idea, she should have stayed home.
She was too mad at herself and frustrated to actually look at where she was going. The darkness surrounded her and a screaming Chris couldn't be heard anymore. To say she was scared was a lie, Winter was terrified. Without them talking loudly it was so quiet. Her phone that she was using for flashlight had 10% of battery left. Will she even make it out of here before her phone dies? At this point she want someone to crown her Queen of stupidity. Only Winter- the stupidest girl can walk away in the dark without knowing the place well and without checking her phone. What did she do so wrong to deserve this.
Winter stopped in her tracks and looked in front of her. A tall figure with wings was standing up with their back turned. Winter thought at first that she was just seeing things, but her breathing stopped for a second. She tried to walk away quietly by taking steps back, Winter was sure it haven't noticed her yet but she stepped on a branch and the noise was so loud in this quiet part of the woods. The figure turned its head slowly. Her heart started beating extremely fast and she felt as if whatever was standing in front of her was minutes away from killing her.
"After co- existing for so long I would have thought that you humans would get used to this." His voice was deep and in some way intimidating.
The words were stuck in her mouth. "W-what?"
His back wasn't facing her anymore, and he just stood there watching her. She was trembling and started walking away from that thing.
"It's quiet funny how you're so afraid of me." He said and walked towards her, he slowly pushed her against a tree, and made sure not to hurt her. The way he was inches away from Winter wasn't the worst thing, it was the fact that he was almost touching her face with his sharp pointy fingers.
"You know we aren't that different from each other right?" He whispered in her ear.
She fell on the floor, and brought her knees up to her chest and rested her head against her knees.
"I'm seeing things again aren't I? I'm just tired It's not real." She told herself.
"It's not real." She whispered to herself over and over again. His laughter was loud and he kneeled down to her level and lifted her head with his one finger.
"You didn't come here alone did you? Of course you didn't you look too much of a coward." He had a smile plastered on his face that terrified her.
"Am I scaring you?" He asked Winter. She didn't know what got over her but she nodded her head. A chuckle left his lips.
His wings started to disappear behind his back and his skin wasn't a deep red-ish colour anymore. He looked more human than he did before. He laughed again but this time he touched her face. "You look lost human."
"W-What are you?" Winter asked him and again he was laughing.
"Something you wasn't supposed to meet. But we can't go back now can we?"
"I'm dreaming right?" She asked herself more but couldn't help and look up at the being inches away from her face.
"Yeah." He smiled at her and he didn't look so scary as he did before. "You are."

The Core And The Wardens of Eternity
What is the Core, they asked me... It's the light that pushes the darkness away, a bastion of justice, a safe keeper of life. It grooms love and tolerance, embraces science, fights ignorance, sentences it to die a slow and tragic death. The Core... it's something that can't be destroyed for destroying it is to terminate the time and space itself. When the stuck-in-a-dark-age world of Zanria goes offline, the Core sends one of its experienced agents to find out what is going on and to try to reestablish a mysteriously severed connection. However, all his training and experience might come way short as the world sinks in war and chaos with different races and clans fighting for the Star of Bardan, the ward rumored to possess enough supernatural power to create and destroy entire worlds. *** I just changed the name of the series, from 'the Nexus' to 'the Core'. Somehow it just sounds more right to me. This is the first story, and it has a medieval fantasy setting. But, eventually, this is going to turn into Isekai series with elements of LitRPG. So, my future books might include worlds with advanced technologies that might be more in SciFi, including Steampunk, genre. The first book might start slow, but after a few chapters, it should all be properly set up, and by then you should get the feel of how it will all flow. Also, I plan to introduce different story threats that should spread out and criss-cross in the future. Hopefully, I will not complicate it too much, and that it will all read good. I am planning to continue to add chapters to the main storyline here, but I'm also starting a new story threat in the Core series called The Recordings of Raan. There is also a side story The Memoires of Eisen that's exclusive on Patreon for those who would like to support me.
