《Zeno's Sapphire》Chapter 14

"What's wrong with that?
"Why can't you just give me the company, if that's what you want?" sagot naman ni Zeno, deretso pa rin ang tingin sa pagkain kahit nagsasalita.
Napasilip ako ng bahagya sa kanila. His father smirked at him, "When you're settled so you wouldn't think of playing around," makahulugang sabi nito.
Bumaling siya sa gawi ko pero agad ding iniiwas ang tingin, "Uh..Son, as long as you settled.. even if you're with a man..."
I bit my lip to ease the pain I am suddenly feeling. Saglit ko pang naaninag ang mukha ng ama niya na napailing lamang pero hindi naman ito tumutol, not that I'm waiting for it... but I can't help but to be hurt.
"We're going then," mariing sabi nito at saka tumayo.
He asked me to go as well kaya napatayo na lamang ako at ngumiti sa kanila. I saw how Lea and his parents give me a worried smile but I didn't bother to talk.
He is just looking straight at the road without any emotion written on his face.

When I managed to do it, I gained my strength to look at him again and speak, "Are.. you alright?"
I shouldn't.. feel this way...
I tried to think of another interesting topic to open up. I want to lure our minds for what happened earlier for a moment.
"Uh..by the way.. Lea looks nice," marahan kong banggit.
"Yeah, she is. I used to play with her since she was a kid..."
I smiled. "T-talaga? Eh 'di ba nasa ano.. France ka?" I tried to be lace my voice with enthusiasm.
He hummed in agreeing tone. "Yeah when I graduated highschool I transferred to France, she's like a sister to me,"
I nodded at his statement.
"You actually reminded me of her when I first saw you, she's just a year younger than you."
Did he mean...
I was just...
--
"Huy! Sapphire! Attention!"
I innocently looked at Duchess. I give her a questioning look pero inilingan niya lang ako at ibinaba ang dalawang bag na hawak-hawak niya.
"Ang daya mo naman! Sabi mo you'll help me choose a bag?" reklamo niya sa akin kaya agad akong ngumiti.
"Sorry, taas mo uli." I said and flashed a sweet smile na nagpaikot sa mata niya.

I stared at the beige petite shopping tote while the other one is plain white boy bag with a gold details.
"Let's go na," alok nito.
"Why do I feel like ako lang nag-eenjoy dito? Ano ice cream nanaman ba?"
We headed towards a pizza parlor, nagugutom na raw kasi siya. They have ice cream here too kaya hindi naman ako nagreklamo pa. As if I will do that..
"You mean Zeno?" tanong ko.
"My gosh! Don't tell me may iba ka pang crush!?"
Napapikit ako. Seryoso ba siya? I just wanted to clear it out dahil sa deskripsyon niya e.
I shook my head. "Days ago.. I don't know, he's busy ata.."
"Alam niya ba?"
"I-I mean a-ano—"
Iba naman na ngayon, I wouldn't feel hurt this much if this is just some about petty crush.
"Can you keep this as secret?" I asked her sincerely.
Her brows wiggled in agreement and smirked playfully, "Of course, I will. Ikaw ang dapat umamin ano!"
Agad akong umiling. No, that can't be...
Her eyebrow raised, "Ano 'yan? Why not?
I drank a water before saying a thing that I know will add to the pain I'm feeling right now, "He has... I-I think he has a boyfriend.."
"He even t-told me.. that I reminded him.. of his cousin, 'yung tinuturing niyang l-little sister..." sabi ko at agad napayuko.
She just rubbed my back while I let my tears fall down to my cheeks.
That hurts for real...
