My feet forcefully moved as I felt a lump in my throat while Peter dragged me with him towards the locker room with Derek walking close behind us. The blood oozed from my head as it continued to pound badly, making my eye twitch with the pain.
I froze when we stopped at the locker room, looking over at Peter with a glare. "I'm not doing this." I shook my head, trying to get out of his grip but he held my arm tighter making me hiss when his nails dug into my arm.
"I don't think you have much of a choice, sweetheart." He shot back, pushing me into the locker room.
I stumbled forward as I slowly entered with Peter watching me carefully from behind. I swallowed roughly, walking towards Scott with tiny steps. He whirled around to face me making me pause.
"Layla? I've tried to call you-" He soon cut himself off when he scanned my face. "What happened? Who did thi-" I cut him off, embracing him tightly without saying a word as tears flowed down my face.
"He's here-" I was soon cut off.
"Twin moment, isn't this family time cute." I glared at Peter's voice, as we both pulled away turning around to see him holding onto a lacrosse stick.
"What the hell did you do to her?" Scott questioned, glaring at Peter who stood in front of us as Derek stood quiet behind us.
"It isn't important now. She's fine and alive. She'll live just a couple of scratches." Peter responded, sending me a sly grin as Scott stood in front of me. "I really don't get Lacrosse." He cut Scott off before he could say anything further.
"It was you-" He cut him off once again.

"When I was in high school, we played basketball. There's a real sport. Still, I read somewhere that Lacrosse comes from native Americans tribes and that they played it to resolve conflict. I have that right?" I glared at the man in front of us deeply. "Hm. I have l little conflict of my own to resolve, Scott. But I need your help to do it." My hands fell onto Scott's arm.
He glanced down at me, sending me a reassuring look. "I'm not helping you kill people."
"Well, I don't want to kill all of them. Just the responsible ones. And that doesn't have to include..." He looked over at Derek who stood behind me.
"Allison." Derek continued for him.
My head snapped over to Derek's direction as I looked at him with a disapproval look. He avoided my eyes as he continued to stare at his psychotic uncle instead of me. "You're on his side? Are you forgetting the part where he killed your sister?" Scott tried to remind him.
"It was a mistake." He tried to defend making me let out a sarcastic chuckle.
"Mm. Mistake." I repeated in disbelief.
"What?"
"It happens." Derek responded shortly.
I looked over at Scott shrugging my shoulders not understand any of this either. "Scott, Layla I think you both are getting the wrong impression of us. We really just want to help you reach your full potential." He told us sickly sweet.
"By killing our friends?" I butted in, stepping next to Scott with my brows arched.
"Sometimes the people closest to you...can be the ones holding you back the most." Scott glanced over at me with a look of disbelief.
"If they're holding us back from becoming a psychotic nut job like you, we're okay with that." Scott snapped back.

"Maybe..." He trailed, glancing over my direction making me stare at him cautiously. "You could try and see things...from my perspective." Everything happened so quick, I was pushed out of the way by Peter as he cornered Scott within seconds his hand slammed into Scott's neck with his claws sinking into it.
I gasped getting off the floor running towards them but a large hand wrapped around my waist pulling me back. "Derek, let me go!" I demanded. "Stop it, peter!" I shouted, struggling out of Derek's grip. "Let him go! You're hurting him!" His hand removed from Scott causing him to tumble onto the floor.
I slowly stopped struggling staring at Peter in disbelief. "What did you do!?" I shouted, as he looked over at me.
"Nothing harmful, a few clips of the past won't kill him."
I shook my head, pushing Derek's arm off me as I faced him. "As long as you're with this psychotic serial killer don't bother getting anywhere near me. Call me when you realize your mistake." I pushed past him walking towards the door.
"I think the only one that will realize their mistake is you, Layla." Peter shot back. I whirled around as I squinted my eyes at him.
I chuckled sarcastically. "Sorry not all of us want to be a part of your killing spree pack." I insulted, giving him a little look. I went to open the door but stopped and faced Peter once again. "If you think you're going to make out alive..." I paused, scanning him from top to bottom. "Oh honey you should rethink that." I pulled the door open, walking out and slamming the door behind me.
I sighed, pushing my hair out of my face as I walked out of the school letting the wind brush against my skin. I felt tears fall down my face at the thought of Derek but then again Derek doesn't want to be in a committed relationship so what was the point of me trying? He's free now.
I looked down at the presentation I was creating on my computer, my fingers typed quickly as my thoughts were filled with Derek but I had to focus on my presentation. I groaned, slamming my computer shut not being able to focus any longer.
Not only was Derek on my mind but Scott. He hadn't returned home which worried me even more and I cursed myself out for leaving him alone but I was so heartbroken to stay in that locker room longer.
The sound of a knocking on my door caught my attention. I pushed myself off my bed, slipping my slippers on, walking towards the door. I unlocked it, opening it to see Scott standing there.
"Oh thank god!" I quickly wrapped my arms around him, pulling him into a tight hug. "You're okay." I whispered, against his shoulder.
He hugged me back, pressing a kiss to my head. "Of course I'd be okay." He chuckled against my hair.
One stress was gone but the only stress left was Derek.

An Unwilling Monster
In the city of Kholakel, the highlight of the year for the upper classes is the annual monster pacification of the misty woods. Ostensibly it's a culling of the monster population to prevent them encroaching on urban areas, but it's an open secret that it's actually treated as more of a blood sport, the participants competing to score the most kills. After all, why else would the politicians and elites of the city bother to attend personally? Given the intense competition and high-tech weapons and gear in use, one might wonder how the forest has not yet been completely depopulated. As this year's culling approaches, a group of unfortunate children are about to discover the answer first-hand, but thanks to an unexpected twist of fate, one of them will score the chance to play the role of the hunter instead of the prey. This was an attempt at writing something darker than my usual fare. The story I actually ended up with isn't as mean to the MC as I'd originally planned out, to the point that I'm not sure the story deserves the horror/grimdark tags anymore, but this is still an unfair world with unambiguously evil antagonists. Chapters are short to start with, but get longer once the first act is over.

8 1129Memories of the Bean Times
To those who have survived: I write this now, for I fear my death is imminent. Barnabas Schmidt wasn't serious when he said he knew what was going on in Paris. Thomas Sauer wasn't expecting to put his life on the line studying a mysterious disease. Julia Krause wasn't trying to join a cult. And the Holy Roman Empire wasn't prepared to fight the Beans. In the year 1587, the small farming village of Dijon in the Kingdom of France is attacked by seemingly immortal monsters made out of baked beans. As Schmidt fights against the Beans on the front lines, the Beans steadily approach the Empire's borders. As Sauer searches for the Beans' weaknesses, the Church of the Beanmeister paves the way for the arrival of the God. As Krause helps the Church, she begins to question her loyalty to the Beanmeister. Updates every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Chapters are available earlier on the Bean Times website: https://beantimes.github.io
