you sat in front of the ouija board, with a nervous grimace on your face. the lights were off, the candles were lit and the board was set up. you glanced around the circle. haechan, chenle, jisung, renjun, jeno and jaemin were all there, each with different expressions on their faces.
haechan, the idiot that suggested using the ouija board, was smiling mischievously at the others. jisung and chenle wore worried expressions while renjun and jaemin tried to mask their fear with indifference. jeno's face was unreadable, but you could clearly see him clutching his cross necklace with a tight grip.
"are you guys ready?" haechan whispered with a wide grin. no one responded. haechan shrugged and looked down at the board.
"is anyone there?" he called out into the silence.
"haechan this is stupid." you spoke quietly. he glared at you and then repeated his previous question.
"is anyone there?"
one of the candles flickered and then went out. chenle gasped.
"no way...i'm out. i'm not doing this. my mom would kill me and drag me to the church to be baptized for the third time." he nervously said, and he scrambled to get up. jeno grabbed chenle's arm and pulled him back down.
"stop freaking out, it's only jaemin. he's over here breathing so damn hard."
jaemin smiled sheepishly knowing that it was true, that he had blown the candle out on accident. "sorry guys, you all know i get really scared."
haechan rolled his eyes, "y/n, you give it a try." he said looking at the board in the center of the circle.
"pfft, why me. i'm just as scared as anyone else." you protested. everyone looked at you with pleading eyes. you sighed and then inhaled sharply.
"is anyone there?" you asked quietly. all eyes watched as the little pointer began to move on it own. the pointer moved from 'y' to 'e' to 's'.
"oh my god..." jisung mumbled as he pulled out his inhaler. chenle was about to run out again but jeno grabbed his wrist once again.
"are you a ghost." haechan asked. once again the answer was yes.
"what is your name?" renjun asked, half curious and half frightened. the pointer began to move again. it moved slowly across the board, spelling out a four letter name.
"this is so cool." haechan whispered to you. you looked at him like he was stupid. playing around with unknown forces of nature is not cool. you glanced around the circle. everyone seemed to be masking their fear well enough for you all to continue.
"are you evil? do you want to hurt us?" you asked hesitantly. the pointers spelled out:
haechan, being the savage he is spoke up, "mark, i don't know who the heck you think you are, but i'll beat your ghosty ass so quick. what do you mean, maybe?"
suddenly a book from the bookshelf that was situated behind you and haechan, fell between the two of you. it missed haechan by a mere inch and hit the floor with a thud. you gasped and jumped further away from haechan. he stared with wide eyes. jeno was now holding his tiny cross in an iron grip with one hand, and squeezing the life out of chenle's with the other hand. jaemin and renjun were shaking like leaves, and jisung took a few pump from his inhaler.

"sorry mark, i didn't mean it..." haechan said in an uncharacteristically small voice.
"what do you look like?" you asked softly. the pointer spelled out three phrases.
"tsk, 'cute smile' he must be conceited." haechan mumbled.
suddenly all the candles went out. you sat in the darkness, breathing heavily. you heard a sniff coming from chenle's direction.
"jaemin! the candles!"
"it wasn't me this time..."
a cold breeze swept through the room and suddenly all the books starting tumbling out of the shelf. the curtains blew around. the lights switched on and flickered sporadically.
"haechan! you upset the ghost!" you screamed as you dodged the falling books. you clutched onto poor little jisung, who was about have an asthma attack. the fallen books started floating around the room quickly, causing a whirlwind to form. papers from around the room started flying as well. most frighteningly of all...the door knob started jiggling.
there was a loud thud. jisung passed out. jaemin and chenle were crying. you, jeno, renjun and haechan were screaming, eyes locked on the door knob.
the door suddenly burst open. the books and papers fell abruptly. the temperature had returned to normal and lights flicked on. the curtains stood still.
"yo, what the fuck happened in here?" haechan's older brother asked as he stood in the doorway, having opened the door.
you, jeno, renjun, chenle, jaemin, and haechan stared motionlessly.
"is this a sleepover...ha, kids. anyways, dinner's ready ugly. hopefully there's enough for your friends." haechan brother spoke looking around the room. his eyes stopped on jisung's unconscious body on the floor. "okay..." he trailed off closing the door slightly.
"MOM!! DONGHYUCK WAS USING THE CANDLES AGAIN!"
"donghyuck-ah, what did i say about lighting candles in your room! hurry downstairs for dinner, bring your friends it's almost bedtime. you still have school tomorrow!!"
—
"fuck that, i'm never sleeping at dongyuck's place again." you whispered to your seatmates, chenle and jisung, as the teacher took attendance. chenle nodded vigorously in agreement.
"i can't remember much after the flying books." jisung whispered back, fiddling with his mechanical pencil collection.
"y/n?" the teacher called out as she looked around the classroom for you.
"here!" you replied, raising your hand quickly.
"haechan?" she called out, looking around the room in the same manner as before.
"ma'am his head was hurting, so i escorted him to the nurse earlier." renjun spoke up from across the classroom where he was seated with jaemin and jeno.
"oh! what happened?" the teacher asked worriedly. renjun glanced at you and you just shrugged. how do you explain that you upset a ghost and got crushed under piles of books?
"h-he has a fever!" jeno interjected hoping that he sounded convincing enough. the teacher nodded solemnly.
"anyways class! today is a wonderful day!" the teacher said perkily. jisung looked at you skeptically, as if asking 'what's wrong with our teacher'. you gave him the same look back and shrugged.
"we have a new student!"
the door opened and in walked an unfamiliar guy. you thought he was kinda cute.
"he just moved here from canada. his name is mark! please treat him nicely."
mark smiled cutely as his eyes scanned the classroom. he spotted you and locked his gaze on you. his smile intensified .
"oh my gosh, he's so cute. look at that beautiful black hair and those cheekbones." you heard one of your classmates whisper.
"ughh, what about that cute smile. i'm dead."

you looked frantically across the classroom at renjun, jeno and jaemin. chenle and jisung were whispering nervously beside you.
"what the fuck!" you mouthed to renjun.
" it can't be..." he mouthed back.
"noona, why is he staring like that?" jisung whispered, his voice wavering. he reached into his backpack for his inhaler. he shook it up and pumped it into his mouth.
the teacher scanned the classroom for a moment, "chenle go sit next to yeri over there, mark you can sit next to jisung and y/n."
chenle scrambled to grab his books and backpack, "sorry to hand you guys straight over to the devil but, adios!" he whispered before he practically bounded across the classroom, tripping over a chair in the process.
there was a loud thud right next to you. jisung had collasped...again.
"can someone please take him to the nurse's office."
at that, jeno, jaemin, renjun, chenle and yourself rushed out of the door, dragging jisung with you before your teacher could even blink. mark's eyes followed you the whole time. that smile was beginning to look a lot less cute.
—
"he's here?!" haechan exclaimed, as he sat up from one of the many beds that adorned the nurse's office. his brown eyes stared deeply into yours.
"say sike right now!!!"
you shook your head, "he's here haechan. we all saw him. jeno, jaemin, renjun, chenle, jisung and i all saw him! how else do you think jisungie ended up like this?" you paused, gesturing to jisung who was laid out on a bed identical to the one haechan was on.
haechan flopped back down onto the bed in defeat. "any plans?"
"well, while we were running here i was thinking, we change our names, acquire new identities, drop out of school and move to great britain." jaemin said, "but i realized, it might not work because personally i can't speak british."
"if i wasn't scared out of my mind, i'd smack you so hard." you replied. you couldn't afford to waste any energy on anyone. you were saving it for when you'd probably have to fight a ghost for your life.
"what do you think he wants?" jeno asked.
"other than to kill haechan..hmm i don't know." renjun sarcastically retorted.
"problem solved, we'll offer haechan as a sacrifice!" chenle replied. haechan looked around incredulously while everyone avoided eye contact with him.
you laughed, "as appealing as that sounds, we can't sacrifice him." you hummed in thought as you tapped your foot on the floor.
"what if, we just pretend that we don't know he's a ghost and invite him to a sleepover and then we suck him into a vacuum cleaner forever?" you said, expecting everyone to turn your idea down.
"perfect."
"i'm in."
"genius."
"sounds good."
"let's do it."
"what did i miss?" jisung mumbled as he regained consciousness.
—
it was the last lesson, you were siting in between jisung and...mark. it took every ounce of courage for you to simply sit next to him. jisung was on your right, shaking like a leaf as he scribbled onto a piece of paper. you elbowed him, hoping that he'd hurry up and pass the paper to you. in the meantime, you waited.
your eyes wondered to your left were mark was seated. he was messily writing his english assignment. you scrutinized him thoroughly. you watched closely as he fumbled with his pencil, it kept slipping from his fingers.
hmm, he's probably struggling to stay in human form, you thought.
jisung nudged you and slid the piece of paper to you. it read: sleepover at haechan's house. 7:00pm. you're invited. be there or be square.
you quickly slid the note to your left.
—
"he should be here any moment, is everyone present?" you asked quietly as you entered haechan's room with two candles. you struggled to hide them on your way upstairs. haechan's mom was one hundred percent against the thought of haechan and fire, you don't blame her though.
renjun nodded from his spot on the floor where he was seated next to the others in a circle. you joined them, taking a seat on the floor between chenle and jisung.
"equipment check!" haechan declared. "candles?" he asked.
"got 'em," you replied
"holy water?"
"right here." chenle answered. out of everyone, of course he'd have holy water. his mom was extremely over religious.
"bibles?"
"yup." renjun responded, showing two copies of the bible.
"extra inhaler?" haechan asked, obviously directing the question to jisung. jisung nodded sheepishly.
"hard hats?"
"here they are." jeno replied as he passed them around the circle. everyone got a hat and strapped it on tightly. jeno's dad was a construction worker so all he had to do was sneak the hats out of their garage.
"what are these for again?" chenle asked as he adjusted his hat.
"flying books." haechan replied quickly, obviously traumatized from the last incident.
"lastly...the vacuum?"
"it's behind the door." jaemin replied, pointing to it quickly.
jisung's breathing quickened significantly. you reached over a patted his shoulder comfortingly. the seven of you exchanged glances. who was going to answer the door.
"KAI BAI BO!" haechan yelled.
everyone smirked as he ultimately lost the game of paper rock scissors.
"run along." renjun joked. you shrugged.
"it's your house anyways." you pointed out.
haechan rushed out of the room while the rest of you prepared yourselves nervously. you took a lighter and lit the candles, while jaemin and jeno hauled the vacuum cleaner to the center of the room. renjun tossed a bible to chenle and helped him douse the room in with holy water, while jisung sat on the floor watching the door in nervous anticipation.
you flinched slightly when you heard two pairs of footsteps going up the stairs.
the door opened and haechan led mark into the room.
"what's all this?" mark asked suspiciously as he eyed everyone skeptically.
haechan firmly shut the door behind himself and locked it. and then the chaos began.
jeno lunged forward at mark, picked him up amd threw him down on haechan's bed. you grabbed the bottle of holy water and bounded to the bed. you climbed onto it and poured the remaining water straight into mark's face. renjun and chenle opened the bibles and began chanting some random verses as loudly as they could. haechan and jaemin grabbed the vacuum and joined you, jeno and mark on the bed. jisung, terrified at the scene, fainted, his hard hat hitting the floor with a loud clunk. the room was filled with the sound of the vacuum, screaming teens, some chanting bibles verses and others screaming 'die ghost! die!'
the door burst open and there stood haechan's mom, gaping at the sight in awe. you, jeno, jaemin, and haechan standing on the bed surrounding mark, who was nearly drowning in holy water, while renjun and chenle furiously flipped pages of the bible.
"LEE DONGHYUCK, WHAT IS HAPPENING IN HERE!"
—
mark's mom had just arrived to pick him up, and he ran out of the house in tears as you, renjun, jeno, haechan, jaemin, chenle and jisung sat guiltily on the living room sofa. haechan's mom paced the room holding a belt.
"i'm giving you," she paused, giving haechan a fierce glare, "one minute to explain what i just saw!"
haechan's older brother stood frozen, watching eagerly from the kitchen as he munched on his popcorn with a smile.
the seven of you were trembling like babies.
"mom, we t-thought that h-he w-was a ghost!" he stuttered, trembling like a hobo in the cold as he stared at the belt.
"renjun, jeno, jaemin, chenle, jisung and y/n, you all have five seconds to exit this house and run home. if i catch you walking, i'll be after you all as well!"
and just like that, you all vanished, sending out your prayers for haechan.
.
at school the next day, haechan was walking with a limp.
moral of the story never spend the night at lee donghyuck's house.
