"We're finally done!" Lily chanted as she clasps her hands together once she and Renjun had added the final touches to their painting.
"How long did this take us again? About three months if I'm not mistaken. I'm just glad that we're finally done with this." Renjun sighs as he places the paintbrush in his hands down on the table.
"Well, we did a pretty good job if I do say so myself. Who knew that the two of us would have became really good partners and was actually able to finish it in time." Said Lily. She placed her hands up, indicating that she wanted to give him a high five. He only scoffs at her.
"Would've still hated you if it wasn't for you continously teasing me, and successfully making me fall for your charms. But I do have to say that we do make a pretty good team." Renjun instead of giving her a high five as she had intended to do, he took a hold of her hand and placed a kiss on the back of her palms. Making her cheeks turn rosy pink.
*knock knock*
"Injunie, jiejie!!" Juyi called out as he opens the door to his older brothers room. Holding a plastic cup with water in it. The boy was probably about to drink a cup of water when his mother told him to call Renjun and Lily downstairs.
"What is it Juyi?" Renjun questions. His little brother walking over to him with the cup still in hand.
"Mom said that dinner is ready. She told me to call you and jiejie..."
"Watch out for the-" Lily tried to inform him that there was a splatter of running paint on the ground but was too late as Juyi had already slipped.
"AHH!"
"Splatter of paint." She covers her mouth. The accident resulting in the boy slipping and spilling his cup filled with water on their painted canvas. Heck, the paint was still drying so it left a residue of paint to start dripping down.
This of course angered the older lad as the painting that him and Lily were working on for the last three months had just gotten ruined in a blink of an eye.
"!" He shouted. Raising his voice, making the little boy scared as he immediately looks up at him in guilt.
"Renjun calm down I dont think that it's right to shout at your brother like that-"
"I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to ruin your painting." Juyi apologieses as his voice quivers from anxiousness. Scared what his older brother might do to him.
"" He exclaims in frustration. His anger bringing tears to Juyi's eyes.
"I'm sorry Injun I didn't know. I was just here to tell you that dinner was ready. I didn't mean to ruin your painting huaa." The little boy cries as he lowers his head in shame.
"-"
"!" Lily cuts him off as she pulls the lad behind her. Separating him from Juyi who was already crying really hardly, the boy roughly rubbing his eyes to get rid of his tears.

"Calm down will you, you're scaring him." She tells him off. He only let's out an annoyed sigh as he crosses his arms above his chest.
"Let me talk to your brother for a bit."
Lily then going over to Juyi as she squats down so that she was about the same height as him.
"Hey Juyi, it's all fine. It was just an accident, don't worry alright?" Lily reassures him. Talking to him in a soft voice so that he wouldn't get terrified of her. He shakes his head aggressively, head still lowered.
She frowns at him, feeling bad that the boy felt this guilty and couldn't even look at her in the eyes.
"Ignore your big brother. He just got caught up with his feelings and lashed out on you. I won't get mad at you, so don't be afraid of jiejie." She pulls him into a hug to comfort him. Her action making him cry even more.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." He apologises through his cries. Struggling to even form a proper sentence.
"I said that it was alright, so don't cry please. I forgive you, I know that it was an accident and you didn't mean it." Caressing the back of the boys head to calm him down.
Renjun who was still infuriated by the accident couldn't help but to glance over at his girlfriend. Seeing the sight of her trying to comfort his younger brother made him feel some sort of remorse for yelling at him earlier. But his ego got the best of him and he refuses to admit that he was wrong.
"You go downstairs and tell your mother that we'd be down in a few minutes alright, whilst I try to talk to your brother about this." She tells him as the boy quickly nodded his head before proceeding to leave the room.
Once he was gone, the girl let out a breathy sigh. She looks back at Renjun, seeing that he still had that angered look on his face.
"That was so mean of you to shout at him. It wasn't his fault to begin with, we should've cleaned up the floor where the paint was at so it'll reduce the amount of accidents that'll occur of someone slipping." Lily spoke. Standing up as she walks over to him. He only hums in reply, not wanting to answer her.
"Renjun, talk to me."
Silence.
"Renjun."
Again silence.
"Injun if you don't talk to me then I'll-"
"Ok what do you want tsk?" He replied annoyingly.
"I want you to go apologise to Juyi right now." She said sternly, but he only looks away from her.
"Renjun come on, grow up a bit please. It was a small accident, I'm sure that we could probably fix it."
He let out a scoff before saying a sarcastic remark.
"Small accident you say?"
She pinches the bridge of her nose in irritation.

"Why am I the one that's acting like his older sister *sigh." She mumbles to herself. Pulling Renjun by the arms so that he was facing her again, before taking a hold of his chin.
"Renjun please. You scared him, if you don't apologise to him then he'll continue getting terrified of you. You don't want that do you?" She again tries to talk to him. He listens to her for a bit before pulling her into a hug.
"I'm sorry for overreacting, you're right." He finally admits his wrongs.
"It's only natural for you to get mad, but I'm not the one whom you should be apologising too." Lily showing him a soft smile. Renjun understanding her words as he nods his head before going out of his room to go find his younger brother.
In the meantime whilst he was gone, Lily tried to find a way to fix the painting. She stares at it for a while before a spark of inspiration popped up in her head.
"I think i know a way to fix this."
....
"Juyi. Juyi where are you? I wanna talk with you." Renjun calls out as he tried to search for his brother. The lad ending up in the living room where he sees his younger brother crying onto his mother's shoulders.
"There you are." Quickly heading over to where they were at.
"Injun were you the one who made your little brother cry?" Their mother questions. The lad quiet as he nodded his head a yes.
"I got overboard with my anger and shouted at him. Could I talk to him?" He answers honestly. Looking at Juyi to see him nervously shake his head a no before he hid his face behind their mothers shoulders.
He frowns, realising the impact that he had just caused.
"Please Juyi, I'm not going to shout at you. I promise." He tried to reassure him as Juyi only clings onto his mother's arms even tighter.
"No you're lying to me. Injunie is scary." He wails.
Renjun looks up at his mother for help, to which she could only reply with a soft smile.
Patting the little boys head before she spoke.
"Juyi, your brother wants to talk to you. He promises that he won't shout at you again, you'll listen to him right? I'm going to go over to the kitchen and give the two of you some time alone to talk things out."
"Mama don't leave me alone with him." He desperately holds onto his mother's hands for her to not leave him alone with Renjun.
"You're going to be alright, trust me. He's your older brother, he won't do anything bad to you." She reassures him before leaving the room.
Now the two males were left alone in the living room. None of them wanting to speak. Juyi could not even look at his brother in the eyes due to how petrified he was.
"I'm sorry Juyi. I should've not screamed at you, now look I've just scared my own brother. I'm a horrible person." Renjun apologises. Letting out an eery laugh at the end.
The little boy had his head bowed down as he clutches his hands into a fist. Trying to stop himself from crying.
"It wasn't your fault. Lily had brought some sense into me and made me realise that it was our fault for not cleaning up after ourselves, leaving splatter of paint on the floor that made you slip which is extremely dangerous. It's... my fault for getting mad at you and blaming it on you. I'm so sorry Juyi. Injun is very sorry, you'll forgive me right?"
"Huaaa Injunieee!!" The boy cries as he couldn't contain his emotions and pulls his brother down into a hug.
--- ☁️
"Lily." The sound of her name being called out made the girl place her paintbrush down as she looks behind. Seeing Renjun entering his room with Juyi in his arms.
"The two of you made up?" She smiles at them as it resulted in her boyfriend rolling his eyes at her.
"Had to bribe him with ice cream for him to forgive me." Her boyfriend replies.
"That's because I didn't trust your words!!" The boy argues back.
"Yeah, yeah whatever. Oh yeah frog, mom is asking you if you could come downstairs for dinner now. What have you been doing up here anyways-- woah." Renjun stopping midway when he saw their painted canvas. Somehow the accident that Juyi made, had astonishingly turned into a masterpiece. Lily being able to turn the stains into something that fit their painting.
"You fixed it??" He said in bewilderment. Even Juyi was in aghast as he had stopped licking his ice cream to admire Lily's work.
"Sure did. See, it wasn't that big of a deal, it's all cleaned up now." Lily only smiles.
"I'm impressed. You're getting even better at art as the day goes by. I'm proud of you." Renjun complimenting her as he ruffles her hair.
...
"The two of you would be graduating really soon right? Had any of you planned and thought of which college you wanted to attend." Renjun's mother asked. The family (+ Lily ) currently having dinner together.
"No not really." Renjun replies shortly.
"But, I wouldn't mind whatever college I'll be attending as long as it's with Lily. We'll be together right Lily?" Renjun said as he faces Lily with a soft grin on his face. The girl chuckling nervously as she hesitantly nods her head a yes.
"How about you dear?" His mother than asks her.
"Hehe... I'm not sure as well.."

Magic system vaguely similar to GameLit ones (no system nor interface to help), with certain elements that are a bit more analogue. Politics, war, looming apocalypse, a tiny dash of kingdom building, and a minor bit of crafting. There is a bit of a progression element as well as both environmental and cultural exploration. The story follows two youths more directly influenced by aforementioned Elder beings than most. Neither lead cares for politics but certain situations force them into participating, forcing them to make decisions that shape their morality. Initially, the focus is on the male lead as he comes of age in an environment with little scope to change his future, only to be thrust into new circumstances that permanently kill some of his hopes. 3k words every chapter
