《Bad is an Understatement | ✓》Chapter 42: Road Trip

"In New York."
New York?
"What! You're planning on going to New York?"
"No. Actually, we're planning on going to New York," he smirks.
"You're expecting me to go to New York... with you?"
"Pretty much, because I haven't given you much of a choice, now have I?"
New York, huh?
I was planning on going to see Dr. Bethany Roy anyways, so I guess we're going to New York.
"Ugh - how do you even plan on getting there? We don't even have our passports."
He's probably thought this through.
"Now, now don't go assuming things. I have everything planned. We're going on a road trip."
"New York's on the other side of America! It'll take us two days. Oh my gosh a two day road trip with you?!" He nods. "This is so bad." I groan.
"Princess, bad is an understatement." I take a stressfully big bite out of my cookie. I think going to jail for two years is better then spending two days on the road with Heath and new year's is coming. "Look at the bright side." Heath adds. "You, me, New York, and new years." He smirks. "You could finally get that kiss you've been waiting for in Time Square just as the clock strikes twelve."
"Yeah, no. I'm not desperate and for your information. I have a boyfriend." Heath's expression drops and he clenches his jaw. Jealous much? Comforted by his response I change the subject. "When are we leaving?"
"As soon as possible."
"And where do you expect us to stay 'till then? The goons are still probably lurking."
"Can you please stop being a pessimist for two minutes." He scolds.
"Fine. I'm just worried because from what I recall your baby is still there. And I'm sorry, how could I forget. I mean you're Heath Levers. You have everything in life figured out." I announce louder than needed.
"Will you lower your voice?! I can bet on the fact that the goons don't care if we're in public or not, they'll kill us either way." I gulp.
"Sorry." I mumble. I take another bite out of my cookie and swallow it down with the frappuccino.
"If you're done, can we go?" Heath asks looking around. It started to get dark out. I make slurpy noises from sucking on the straw just to tick him off. He rolls his eyes before he aggressively takes the cup from my hand and throws it into the trash.
"You're such a piss off sometimes." I state as I get up.
"Same goes for you Princess." He states with a sarcastic smile. He gets up and walks towards the exit. I mumble a bunch of profanities as I follow him out.
It was starting to get cold now, and my hair became frizzy due to the amount of running. I decided to keep it down, because I really don't want Heath to see what he left on me. He will never let me live in peace. "So what's the plan?" I ask.
"We're going to go to a car rental place." He states.

"How are you going to rent a car?"
"With the money I gave you." He explains.
"About that..." He stops dead in his tracks.
"Please tell me you grabbed it before you ran." He begs. I make a nervous look. "You didn't?" He sighs. "Ugh!" He groans.
"Hahah okay I did. I was just playing with you." I smile. "It's all in the bag." I say pointing at my back.
"Sometimes you scare me, you know?"
"Yeah. Yeah, I do. That's the fun part." I grin.
"Bitch." He mumbles which causes me to laugh. Continuously walking in the cold, we make it to a car rental place downtown. Since there is a girl at the desk, Heath had decided he'll do all the talking while I get to stand in the freezing cold.
I look through the glass wall. The girl was blushing like crazy, and Heath is practically leaning over the counter towards her. His head was tilted down a little telling me his eyes were somewhere they shouldn't be right now. After five minutes with a lot of blushing, giggling, and talking, Heath finally comes out carrying a pair of keys in his hands.
"Told you I was a pro." He smirks.
I put on a sarcastic smile," Oh, I'm so sorry for underestimating your talents. Too bad they only work on slutty whores." I state looking at the girl who was behind the counter. Her skirt was so short her whole ass showed, and don't even get me started with the buttons on that dress shirt. Like can she not see there's more than three buttons?!
"Did you just call yourself a slutty whore?" Heath smirks closing the distance between us. He was so close, his body heat felt so pleasant. I just want him to be closer. Closer?! Shut the eff up Riley. Ugh! Hate my brain.
"Excuse me?" I raise my eyebrows as I put my hand flat onto his chest. Fuck. It's so hard.
"What's wrong? Feeling something you like? You know I can let you feel a lot more than this." He smirks. Come back!
"Oh I don't think you want me touching anything else. I mean, you'd start calling me a tease." I tiptoe as I whisper into his ear. I move back to the same position as before just in time to spot his adam's apple bob. "Now that won't be fair, now would it?" I ask teasingly. "But." I trail my index finger down his chest. "If you want?" My finger was at the waistband of his jeans, just when he grabs my wrist.
I look up at his flushed cheeks and smirk. "How about we find somewhere more private to do this?" He whispers huskily taking me off guard. Ah- what? It was like I melted under his words. It's not fair. Why does he have do this to me?!
"Haha, not even in your wildest dreams." I grin. I snatch the keys out of his hand, and walk past him. When I'm sure I'm far enough, I let out a deep sigh. Fuck. That took way too much out of me.

I click the lock button on the remote, and follow the cars sound through the alley of cars. I finally stop at a two thousand ten Nissan Altima. Wow. What a charmer. I sense Heath's presence behind me.
"What a charmer you are." I sarcastically state.
"I know, isn't this car amazing? It'll let us blend right in." I smile. Well I guess we gotta work with what we have.
I unlock the doors and take the passenger seat while Heath slips into the driver's seat. I lay down. "I'll start driving." He says.
"We're heading now?" I ask.
"Yeah we have to be there on the thirty first." He grins. I roll my eyes.
"Suit yourself then." I pass him the keys," I'll be sleeping right here. Wake me when you're tired. And don't think twice about it, I rather have my sleep broken than have myself killed." I state. He nods. He inserts the key, and starts driving. I move the back of the seat back so that I can lay down, and close my eyes facing the window.

I've been driving for eight hours now, and I think I'm about to pass out any second, so I decide to pull up into a gas station's parking.
My stomach growls reminding me I haven't ate since yesterday morning. I take one last look at Riley who was sound a sleep in her seat. I'm having doubts about leaving her alone considering what happened last night. The thing that kind of hit me hard was that she didn't remember anything.
I sigh as I decide to go in. I won't be long, and we could use some snacks for the road. I take some cash from our bag, and exit the car making sure to lock it in the process.
I grab bags of chips, bottles of gatorade, and candy. I was done shopping in under five minutes. I head back to the car. Once I get there I put everything on the back seats. I was happy to see Riley is still peacefully sleeping. "Jack!... You can't go!... He'll kill you!" I guess I spoke too soon. "J-jack. P-please?" Riley begs in her sleep.
I open the passenger door and unbuckle her belt. "No, no, no, no, no," Riley repeats in stress.
"Riley?" I shake her. No use," Riley!" I shake her again, and she gasps as she sits up. She breathes heavily as she turns her head to look at me. She dangles her legs down on the side of the car. I crouch down to her level, and she crashes me with a hug. "W-Why c-couldn't he listen t-to me?" She sobs. I run my hands through her silky hair which smelled like coconut.
"Riley, whatever happened it wasn't your fault. Okay?" I pull her away from me, and instantly regret it as the cold wind takes the place of where her warmth was. I wipe the tears away from under eyes, and she looks at me as if she's a lost child.
What happened to her? This isn't the Riley that came to campus. I broke her. "He-Heath?" She breathes.
"Mm-hm?" I ask. As I hold her hand in mine to give her warmth.
"You didn't fall last night did you?" I nod. She turns her head to the side trying to hide the tears streaming down her cheeks. For fucking sakes! What happened to her?! This isn't Riley!
"Look at me, Riley." I demand. She doesn't budge. "Riley!" I lower my voice," Please just look at me." I hated seeing her like this. She slowly faces me. I reach my hand to wipe her tears.
"Stop." She says sternly. My hand stops midway. "You can't wipe away my tears. Only I can." I hesitate a bit before bringing my hand back. Why won't she let me help her?! "Heath I need you to forget. I need you to forget what you saw and or heard tonight and any other night. " She states after wiping her tears away.
Anger fills my veins. She's so fucking stubborn, why?! What the fuck happened to her?! "Riley-" I start softly, but she cuts me off.
"I said forget it, okay? If you care about me, you will." She states. I could see the emotion of pain and regret right through her. No matter how hard she tried to hide it. I definitely care about her, but to what extent I don't know. All I do know is, I'm not good for her.
She exits the car before listening to my response. "I'll drive." She snatches the keys from my hand. I clench my jaw in anger. I really wish I had a punching bag in front of me right now.
My hands were formed into fists, and my hands were turning white from the closed pressure. Stop it, Heath. Calm down man. Before you do something you'll regret.
I inhale and exhale deeply before taking the passenger seat. Not even a minute later, Riley starts driving. I reach back for food and start eating. This girl is so confusing, and it makes me so angry sometimes.
I know Jack's her first love. I read it in her old phone a couple of months ago. She didn't say his name, but I put it together. It didn't say what happened between them either. I need to find out, because whatever it was. It's imprinted into Riley's conscious.
"Riley?" I ask gently. I could tell she was drowning in some very deep thoughts. "Riley?" I ask again as there was no response at my first attempt. I put my hand on her thigh which finally brings her out of her thoughts. She looks down surprised by my touch, and then her drained eyes met mine just before they averted back on the road.
"Yeah?" She asks.
"I'm going to sleep wake me when you're done." I state. She slightly nods as I lay the back of the seat back and lie down.
This girl has me totally whipped.
