《Bad is an Understatement | ✓》Chapter 41: Hide

I wake up feeling overly warm in a queen sized bed. The rays of the sun peeking through the curtains dimly brighten up the room. I turn on my left side and take a look at the digital clock on the nightstand next to my bed. Twelve thirty seven pm.

I sluggishly climb out of bed and head into the bathroom. After taking a warm shower and slipping into the same clothes as yesterday, I make my way to the apartment's kitchen.

Scanning through the cupboards, I'm left with nothing. The whole kitchen was empty. I sigh and walk over to Heath's room. I cautiously knock on his door. Once there's no reply, I open his door.

The room was empty. I sigh in emptiness as my stomach growls in hunger. Having no options as to how to fill my stomach, I decide to avert my attention towards the TV. I switch channels until I stop at The Vampire Diaries.

The Vampire Diaries wasn't really helping my mind set as the ripper Stefan decapitated people and blood was everywhere. The blood just gave me images of the night. I couldn't take a minute longer of it and decided to turn it off.

Frustrated with my mind and actions. I sit on the couch with my knees up against my chest.

I didn't mean to kill him. I didn't want to. I just wanted it to hit his arm or leg. Why is life so much more complicated than it has to be? How will I live with this guilt?

I mean the guy must have a family. A mother who loved him endlessly, a father, a sister, a girlfriend, a daughter, or a son. There's endless relationships that he could've had, and they all ended because of me.

One stupid aim. One stupid shot. I killed that guy. I silently sob into my lap.

I'm breaking down. I can't break down. I have to stay strong. You have to stay strong Riley. For Heath. What you did and what you will do will be for Heath and his happiness. You promised you'll help. I remind myself.

I hear the door knob being played with from the outside. I instantly wipe away my tears and take deep breaths. I put on the most realistic smile I could as Heath walked in holding a couple of shopping bags. He closes the door before he turns around and puts on a smile. I clear the unnoticed lump in my throat," Where were you?"

"I went to get some cash and I also didn't know how long we'll have to hide for, so I brought us some clothes." He says walking towards me. He hands me one of the bags once he's stood in front of me.

"Thanks." I smile.

"I also brought food. Hope you like a salad from Mcdonalds."

"I could eat a horse." I grab the take out bag from him. I pull out one of the two salads and start eating. Heath puts the bags down and does the same.

"I also bought this backpack. Pack anything necessary just incase we have to run anytime soon." I nod. We didn't talk as we ate. I guess, I was too scared to ask him about anything. What if we can't go home?

I take Heath's empty bowl on the way to the garbage and dump them in. "Riley, can we talk?" Heath asks just before I can enter my room. I smile and nod. Be strong.

I walk over to him and sit down on the couch. Heath sits down beside me. We both face each other.

"Here's some money." He says taking something out of his pocket. He then hands me the bundle of cash. The bundle mostly contained one hundred and five hundred bills.

"Heath I can't take this much money from you."

"It's just for now, you can pay me later if you have to." I nod and stuff the money into my jacket.

"One more thing." Heath reaches behind his back and pulls out a gun. My brain goes numb at the sight. "Riley, please don't be scared."

"Uh- I-I'm not." I shake my head.

"I need you to keep this with you at all times." Heath takes my hand and settles the gun in it. Feeling terrified, shocked, and depressed, I stare at the gun in my hand. For Heath. I curl my fingers around the gun and intake the feeling I had the night before. I shake my head and tuck the gun in the back of my jean's waistband.

"Did you talk to Dylan?"

"Yeah, he wants me to call him one more time for some extra information. I'm going back in an hour." I nod knowingly.

"Where do you call from? Just curious."

"There's a phone booth close to Mcdonald's. It's about a fifteen minute walk from here." We both sit there anxiously waiting for the other person to talk. But I had no words left, my brain kept going back to the metallic object pressed up against my back. "Riley about last night."

"It's better if we don't talk about it. I mean you've already apologized."

"I did?" Heath asks," Why would I apologize?"

"You are talking about me killing that guy, aren't you?"

"No... I was talking about last night. In bed." Heath states.

"What happened in bed? I was sleeping alone and you were sleeping in your's."

"You're telling me you don't remember what happened?" Heath asks.

"No...?" I question. "Should I be worried?"

Heath takes a moment to think before he speaks. "No, haha I actually... fell! I fell off the bed and I thought you heard." He scratches the back of his neck.

"You fell?! Oh my god." I start laughing like crazy.

"Okay. That's enough." Heath scolds feeling embarrassed. Like who the hell falls off their bed? Heath! I burst out into another fit of laughter. "Fine then if you like laughing so hard. Let me at least give you a reason." Heath grins mischievously.

I sober up,"Uh, what?" I ask confused. Before I could react, Heath lunges for me. I let out a scream before landing on the couch. Heath straddles me and puts only enough of his weight down which would keep me down. "Get off me you monster!" I scream pounding my fists against his chest.

Heath grabs my wrists. I try to wiggle them out, but it's utterly useless. He tucks my wrists under the weight of his legs. "Now since you like laughing so much you should be in for a good treat." He smirks. His hands trail down my stomach.

Oh, no he's not! He starts tickling me and no matter the amount of urge I had to not laugh, all of it came crashing down. "He-Heath! Hhahahhahahahah- s-stop hhahahh!" He ignores my begging and continues. "Please s-s-stop!" He stops and a proud smirk covers his face. I glare at him. "Get off me!"

"Come on you can be more polite then that? Unless you want more?" My eyes widen in horror.

"You wouldn't?"

"Oh. I would." He grins. His hands hover over my stomach.

"Okay! Okay! Please get off me!"

"Come on better than that." He smirks. I glare at him and look at the black screen of the TV. "So you're not going to apologize, huh?" I can just feel the eagerness in his voice ready to torture me again. I prepare for the tickling to start, but an idea pops up in my head.

I look at him with a smirk covering my face now. His hands hover over my stomach and he stops at the sight of my smirk. I twist my hands under his legs. "What's going on in that head of yours?" He asks. "Shit!" He mumbles getting off me as I pinch him on the back of his leg.

I find this as the right opportunity and stand up in one move. "You are so dead." I state mischievously. Heath looks up at me and his adam's apple bobs. "Run." I whisper.

"Fuck." He turns around and starts sprinting. Not even a second later, I follow his steps. "For sakes women what are you on?!" Heath asks across from the dining table.

"Anger." Man was it funny seeing him scared out of his mind. Heath runs one way of the dining table and I follow. After going back and forth and ending up in the same spots; I jump on top for a short cut. Heath runs around and I jump off the table immediately following him. He was about to close his bedroom door when I crash into it.

"Fuck!" He groans scared.

"Hehe." I open the door to see Heath on the other side of the room. He was trapped. I grin and slowly walk towards him like hunter towards his prey.

"Princess, I-I'm sorry. I should've never tickled you." I hate being tickled.

"All mistakes come with a price." I grin as I grab a pillow off his bed. I pounce towards him, but he dodges and climbs ontop of the bed. I spin around and jump on his bed with him. I start smacking him with the pillow. "You," smack," do," smack," not,"smack,"tickle,"smack,"me!" Smack. Smack. Smack.

"Calm down woman! You're crazy!" He yells. Heath moves back and almost trips. When he catches my wrists he takes me by surprise, and I fall back on the bed with him on top.

Heath settles in first as he adapts to this position by pinning my wrists above my head. "Get off me Heath, because I will eventually get loose and the thing I'm going to hit you with won't be as soft as a pillow next time."

"I really don't think you're in any position to be demanding anything from me." Heath states in a husky voice. Oh god no. I internally beg. He leans down. His breath fanning over my neck. I give him more access by lifting my head up. He takes the opportunity to land soft kisses.

"He-heath." I whisper. Why was I whispering?.. He doesn't hear me as I feel him starting to nibble softly on a spot on my neck. I suppress a moan.

Why is he doing this to me? Why am I not telling him to stop? This isn't the right time. Not with everything that is happening. I don't even know what I feel about him. I had melted under him as I had stopped struggling. When I had enough, I couldn't stop myself from moaning. I breathe heavily. I need to stop this. "He-Heath?... Y-you-mm." Fuck. Get yourself together. You don't have any feelings towards Heath. At all. "Stop Heath I c-can't." He kisses me one last time before completely stopping.

As he lifted his head, I could see that his eyes were flooding with lust and desire. So much, that I questioned how he had the ability to stop. But there was also a hint of hurt. I look away from his gaze as he tries to study my expression.

"I'm sorry." He apologizes before getting off of me.

I get up and stand on the other side of the bed. I clear my throat. "It's not the right time Heath." I say before exiting his room. For some reason it hurt to say it. It hurt to ask him to stop and it hurt not being able to help him. Do I have feelings for him?

I enter my room and close the door behind me. I take out the money from my jacket and hide it under my pillow for now. Deciding to let go of everything, I grab my clothes and head into the shower. I turn on the hot shower before taking out the gun from my back and laying it down on the counter.

After stripping out of my clothes, I look at myself in the mirror. The feeling of Heath's kisses was still lingering on my neck.

I feel a little sore at a certain spot, so I move my long hair to the side. When I look up, I see a love bite. Heath gave me a hickey. Just great. I sigh before getting into the shower.

About thirty minutes later, I turn off the shower and dress into new clothes. Heath had even bought some undergarments for me which was odd considering they were the right size. I really hope he hasn't gone through my undergarments or something. Since I'm not really wanting to go over that conversation knowing that he kind've wants me, I'll save it for another day.

I tuck the gun into the back of my sweats before I exit the bathroom. The piece of metal was a constant reminder of what has happened and it killed me on the inside, but I know Heath wouldn't have asked me to keep it with me if this whole situation wasn't as serious as it is.

I leave my hair wet considering that was the only option I had, because there was no hairdryer here. I put an elastic around my wrist for later. I grab the backpack Heath had brought and I start packing. I tuck in the money, some medicines from the medicine box, and some of Heath and I's clothes.

I enter the living room and find it empty. I glance into Heath's room which was also empty. He told me he had to call Dylan, so I guess that's where he is now.

I walk over to the kitchen and drink some water. I stand there thinking. Great I'm back to doing nothing. Just as I was about to walk over to the TV a loud pounding on the door catches my attention. Heath has a key...

I walk over to the door and look through the peephole to see three very built and angry looking guys. My heart starts pounding against my heart. I back away from the door as the man continues pounding.

What should I do? The best fights are the one's that we avoid. Jackie Chan's wise words run through my mind. I run into my room and grab the bag. I swing it over my shoulders. I slip on a new pair of Nike runners Heath had bought. The knocking stopped and I stare at the door as if it'll burst open any second.

Boom! I hear the door trying to be broken. "Fuck." I mumble to myself. I look between the balcony and back at the door. The hinges were starting to break. Suck it up Princess. I think to myself as I run to the balcony.

I look at the door and climb over the balcony. I look down at the busy roads which were almost fifty metres below. I look back up. Don't look down again Riley. I look towards the other balconies and the one on the left had its doors open. I take small steps towards the balcony. I hear the door burst open in my apartment. Fuck. This only cause me to take bigger steps and fast.

After ten seconds, I climb onto the other balcony. Surprised that I made it without even tripping, I run inside of the apartment and I was relieved to see no one was home. I take the main door out. I look towards my door where one of the guys was standing, talking on the phone. He looked pretty pissed. He looks up and makes eye contact with me. His eyes widen in shock and I gasp. "The girl's here!" He yells and I turn around and sprint towards the elevator.

Luckily, it was about to close and I squeeze in right before it did. After anxiously waiting for the elevator to reach the first floor, it finally does. I run out into the busy lobby seeing the same guy coming down from the stairs.

I run out into the busy streets. I look back and I could see the guy tumbling past people following me on my trail. I push my feet to move faster. What should I do? What should I do? I think to myself as I run through people. Heath!

I remember him telling me that the phone booth was close to Mcdonalds which was a fifteen minute walk from the hotel. But first, I had to get this guy off my trail. I look behind to see that he's far, but still visible. I take a right onto one street and left onto another. I slow down after five more minutes of running.

Breathing heavily, I start walking in a normal pace. Mcdonald's. I enter a random store which was empty. I walk towards their take out counter where a girl who looked around my age was sitting. "Do you know where the closest Mcdonald is?" I ask.

"Ah- yeah, it's down Waver Street. Just down that way. Take a left and take right onto it. Walk down five minutes and you'll be there. It'll be on your left."

"K thanks." I smile. I don't waste any time as I take the directions I was told. I was in front of Mcdonalds in under five minutes.

I was frustrated to find the phone booth empty. I turn around to go back to the hotel when I spot one of the men from earlier behind me. I run across the street into a alley. Heavy footsteps following me.

I took random turns through the alley ways, and I didn't dare turn around to look if someone was there and waste a precious second. Once I reach a dead end, I hid behind a big dumpster. I could hear the footsteps slowing down and walking around in the area. I slow down my breathing. I look under the dumpster across to the other side. The man's feet were making their way around to me.

I was ready to fight, but all of a sudden a hand wraps around my mouth and I let out a muffled scream. I tried to struggle, but stopped as I hear a familiar voice,"Shhh.." I turn around to see Heath.

I couldn't be more happy to state the fact that I was ecstatic seeing him. I was about to speak when he puts a finger on my lips. He points to a broken window in the building. He gestures for me to go in and I do as he says. Heath follows behind me and we run outside of the building.

Blending through the streets. Heath pulls me inside of Starbucks. We take a seat at the back. I catch my breath and so does Heath. "What happened?" He asks worried.

"I don't know they just showed up at the front door."

"They? There's more?"

"Yeah. How'd you find me?"

"I was inside of Mcdonald's getting food, but then I saw you running away from the guy so I followed you."

"Oh. What did Dylan say?"

"Just a lot of bad news."

"Then why don't you start listing them?" I sarcastically smile. My stomach growls and my cheeks heat up. "You know what? Let me get something to eat first." I say getting up. Stupid stomach.

I stand in line and order a large Double Chocolate chip frappuccino and a cookie. Not the greatest thing to be eating after a run, but I had to work with what I had. I join Heath at our table as soon as I get my food. "Okay, now you start." I state.

"So they're looking for us."

"Oh really? I thought I was just playing hide-n-seek run with a guy who looked like would snap my neck if he got the chance to." Sarcasm lingering my every word.

"Ha. Ha. Well that's not it. If they find us, most likely, they'll kill us. And I don't want that, since you're involved." My blood heats up.

"Heath listen to me. You should care about your life whether or not it involves me, and I swear if you do anything that harms you just to save me; I will do something so bad that you'll regret your decision. You can't be the hero. They only exist in books and movies, so stop trying to be one." I clearly state.

Heath clenches his jaw in anger, but nevertheless nods. "As I was saying, If we don't want to end up dead, we have to pay the guy a visit ourselves."

"And where might we find this guy?" I question.

"In New York." New York?!
