《Bad is an Understatement | ✓》Chapter 35: The call

I wake up with an arm tightly wrapped around my waist and my back pressed up against a rock hard chest. Heath. I smile at the warmth I feeling with just lying next to him.

Last night, he told me something that he's probably not told anyone not even Jen. Now everything makes more sense to me about him, of why he acts the way he does and why he's so distant at times.

He's scared of life. He watched his parents get murdered and it's been imprinted in his mind. I hate to admit it, but Heath and I are way more alike than anyone knows. It scares me.

As much as I know Heath, I can tell that he hasn't told me the whole story. He stared into my eyes to read me and I read him instead. There was a part of him feeling guilty for not telling me, but I wasn't going to push it and make him feel even more guilty.

He knows who the man was, but he didn't tell me and I have a feeling Heath is not going to give up before getting revenge on that man. 'Hey, did you get anything?... No! I don't care.! I'm paying you aren't I?! So stop telling me what or what not to do!' I just hope that this conversation, I overheard him have, has nothing to with the man.

All I know for sure is if a man can kill two people, with his own two bare hands, in their own house, he's dangerous.

I feel Heath loosen his grip so I turn around under his arm to face him. His hair was scattered in different directions and the bags under his eyes started to fade. For once he actually looks at peace with himself. I've never seen him like this, but I wish I could do something to help him so that he can stay like this for his whole life.

Heath's eyes peel open revealing his brown eyes. This time they're so light someone could easily mistaken them as hazel. A smile stretches out on his lips. "Morning." His voice a little groggy.

"Morning. How'd sleep?" I ask. I honestly had no idea what I was doing, last night, when I asked him to sleep with me. I just wanted to help him in anyway I could no matter how annoying or rude he has been to me.

"It was the best sleep I've had in over fifteen years." He admits.

"Well I'm glad I could help." I smile back.

"So you're not mad I touched or changed you?" He asked a little nervous. After I woke up, I noticed I wasn't in the same clothes I fell asleep in. I was a little mad and kind of embarrassed I guess, but I remembered the promise I made to him. He was just helping and it definitely worked. The pain had vanished completely and I felt a million times better. I also noticed that I was in his room, in his bed. His room was very neat just like his dorm. It was very standard and plain nothing really popped out.

"Nope. I promised, remember?"

He chuckles," Yeah." His arm was still firmly around me though now my front side was completely up against him. "Look ah what I told you last night-"

I cut him off," I won't tell anyone. I promise. And I'm glad you told me I hope it helped."

"More than you think. And thank you."

"No problem. That's what friends are for."

"Do friends sleep together too?" Both Heath and I's head snap to look at the direction of the voice, and there Jen was giving us a skeptical look with her arms crossed over her chest.

Heath and I look at each other. He jerks his arm away from me and we both sit up," No, it's not what it looks like." I answer.

"Are you sure?"

"Very." I say as I get up. Jen stares at me like all hell broke down. I look down and face palm myself. I'm wearing Heath's clothes. Fuck my life. "I-I can explain!"

"Just- I don't even want to know." Jen puts her hand up," I just wanted to tell you guys that you both are responsible for breakfast."

"Jen come on. Just let me explain." I beg her. I don't want her spreading rumours.

"What happened in this room stays in this room." With that she turns around and leaves.

I look at Heath who was currently smirking. "Why didn't you say something?" I ask.

"We know what happened, who cares what she thinks?"

"I do! She thinks I slept with her brother." I point out the obvious.

"What's wrong in that?" His smirk gets even bigger.

"And the jerk returns." I throw my hands up in the air. "Meet me downstairs in ten. I am not cooking breakfast alone." I exit his room and walk into mine. I honestly didn't know that Heath's room was across from mine.

I walk into my closet and pick out black Nike shorts and a light blue shirt. I take everything to the bathroom and start a hot shower.

After I'm done showering, I dry my hair and do a side fishtail braid. I walk downstairs to the kitchen. I spot Heath shirtless mixing something with a whisk, dancing, and lip syncing from the doorway. The song All Lights Down by Bei Maejor Feat. Waka FlockaFlame was on high volume.

Lil' mama want her hair pulled,

Legs pushed back.

Only like a Rottweiler in the kitty cat.

She want it wild, shawty wanna scream.

Want it from the front, back, side, and in between.

Want it all the time, she a feign.

So good, I see it in my dreams.

She wanna arch her back when I hit it,

When I do it mama wanna holla get it.

She said,

Take it slow, put it down on me.

I said jump on it, ride like a pony.

Lights down low, time to get naughty.

Lights down low, t-t-time to get naughty.

Take it slow, put it down on me.

Baby jump on it, ride like a pony.

Lights down low, time to get naughty.

Lights down low, l-l-l-lights down low.

Why is he shirtless?! And who listens to this song in the morning while cooking?! I love the song, but it is way too sexual to play in the morning. Calm down Riley. Breathe. I inhale and exhale deeply before I walk farther into the kitchen. I clear my throat to get his attention.

He doesn't hear me considering the music's too loud and he continues lip syncing as he whisks something in a larger bowl. I look at his phone beside him on the counter. I walk over to it and pause the music.

"She said, Take it slow, put it down on me.

I said jump on it, ride like a pony.

Lights down low, time to get naughty.

Lights down low, t-t-time to get naughty." Heath sings and I can't hold it in any longer as I burst out in a historical fit of laughter. Heath turns around with flushed cheeks. He scowls at me, and after a good ten minutes I sober up.

"That was awful." I say getting over the laughter.

"Ha. Ha." I put on a big smile.

"Nice try though." I walk up to him,"Besides making my ears bleed whatcha making?" I raise my eyebrows.

"Not babies that's for sure." He scowls.

"Is that the song you play every time you bring a girl over at night?" I tease him.

"You would wanna know." He smirks. "Maybe I could show you tonight."

"I'll pass on that."

"Right, because he already showed you last night." Jen butts in. I roll my eyes and turn around to see Jen smirking in the doorway.

"Nothing happened LAST NIGHT. Right Heath?" I look at Heath who was also looking at Jen.

He shrugs and my jaw drops open hitting the ground,"See. You don't have to lie to me Riley." Jen says.

"But nothing happened. I SWEAR."

"Okay I get it. You're not open about your sex life. It's okay I won't ask you to talk about it." Jen says teasingly trying to hold back a laugh. On the other hand, Heath has a smile on his face as he pours the mix down on the pan.

"You just like teasing me don't you?" I ask Jen.

"Yes." She finally lets out her laugh.

"You're not going to let me live this down either."

"Nope. Maybe someone should've locked their room." She winks before leaving.

Like brother like sister. How come I'm friends with them?... "Why are you shirtless?" I blurt out. "Fricken stupid Riley." I mumble to myself.

"Because it's hot." He says.

"I know, because I'm here." I wink. "Soo whatcha cooking?"

"Pancakes." He says.

"Aaaand?.."

"Aaannd..."

"You're not cooking anything else?"

"Yes."

"Then what is it?" I ask.

"I don't know. You're going to cook it. I'm not cooking alone." He says repeating what I had said this morning.

"Right." I mumble walking over to the fridge. This time it was packed with fruits, vegetables, bread, and different types of juices. "How about a fruit salad?" I ask.

"Sounds delicious." He replies.

"Kk." I take out blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries. I love all types of berries they're all delicious.

After making the salad, I go over to Heath who had made around five pancakes. I put a finger in the batter and taste it. "EW!" Are the only words to describe the taste. I walk over to the sink and spit out anything in my mouth. The taste still lingers so I take water and rub my tongue from the taste. "How many eggs did you put in here?!"

"Four?" Heath shrugs.

"That's disgusting."

"It couldn't be that bad." Heath says putting his finger into the batter. As soon as his fingers make it into his mouth, his expression drops," I-it's-," he coughs," not-"

"Save the talk and throw it up. That's disgusting." He doesn't waste another second and starts running towards the sink. After he finally gets the taste out of his mouth, he turns to look at me.

"Do you have more flour?" I ask. He walks over to one of the cupboards and takes out a bag full of pancake mix. He puts it down on the island and struggles to open it. "Stop, you're-" before I could finish the top of the bag splits into two and the flour explodes all over Heath's face," Hahahahahhahahhaha!" I start laughing.

Ten seconds later I feel something cold and slimy dripping down my forehead from my head. "Nooooo..." I groan as I put my hand on my head and scoop off a handful of pancake batter.

I turn around to face a chuckling Heath covered in flour. I glare at him for a moment until my eyes avert to the sink behind him. I walk around him to the sink and pull out the tap. I turn the water on and spray him.

"What the fuck." He turns around shock apparent in his voice.

"How's that for payback?" I smirk.

"Oh, it's on." He devilishly states. He opens the fridge and takes out a carton of eggs. He opens the carton and holds out an egg.

"Heath don't it'll hu- OW!" I yell as he throws it with a lot of force and it hits the top of my shoulder.

"You dick. That hurt!" I whine as he throws another I turn my back to it. "Owww!"

*********

It has been half an hour now. The whole kitchen is covered with food including us and we still have not called a truce.

I swear I have bruises on my skin from the eggs. After the second one, I started actually dodging them. I turned the water to its hottest possible temperature and started spraying him.

He shrieked like a little girl. When he was distracted by his 'burnt skin', I ran to the fridge and dumped cold milk all over him, to make things even.

Right now he thought it would be funny to bring spices into the food fight and dumped a handful of salt in my face.

"My eye's are burning!" I rub my eyes as the burning doesn't stop. "Heeeaaath!" I yell.

"Oh god I'm so sorry Princess." I feel his hands pull mine away from my eyes. I keep my eyes closed as they still have a stinging sensation. "Try to open them." Heath says soothingly. I slowly peel them open and I can see the hurt on Heath's face, well through the caked face. Hahaha. "Keep them open." He says. I blink a couple of times before I actually can. Slowly, he starts blowing into them and my eyes start to cool down.

The sun from the window makes his skin glow. His cheeks puffed up with air and he looks the cutest I've ever seen him. His hands crease my right cheek leaving a tingly sensation. We stare deep into each other's eyes and I notice Heath slowly leaning in.

My heart was beating a thousand miles per hour. This cannot be happening again. I internally groan. Riley stop before it's too late.

On cue, only a mere centimetre away from kissing me, Heath stops. He scans my face as if there's a hidden message on it. His breath fanning my lips all I want to do is kiss him.

"It's been over an hour what's taking so.... long?" We hear Jen's voice. "What the hell happened in here?" Heath and I both back away from each other as fast as lightning. "Seriously guys? You were going to make out in the kitchen? It's a kitchen the one holy place in this house." She groans exaggerating.

Well thanks for ruining the moment Jen. I feel a blush creep on my face. I clear my throat. "Seriously Jen I hear you have sex with Ian in OUR room. I shouldn't be talking." I smirk smugly.

Her cheeks turn beet red," I'm going out for breakfast. I'll be back for dinner. Clean up this mess." She rolls her eyes and leaves.

"Not denying it Princess?" I gasp as Heath pushes me up against the island.

"Denying what?" I ask innocently.

"You know my sister just accused us of making out in the kitchen."

"Yes, but just because she said it doesn't make it true." I put my hands flat on his chest and stand tall," Now get away from me in under two seconds unless you want a broken nose and a couple of broken ribs to go with the nose." His adam's apple bobs before he moves back. I smirk. "Now let's clean this up."

*********

Heath's currently showering and Jen just showed up with takeout. "Can you call Heath?" Jen asks.

"Sure." I run up the stairs to his room. I knock on the door, but no one answers so I walk in.

I hear the shower and a smile automatically appears on my face. This is probably Heath's fourth shower today, the flour is just not leaving his hair. "He-" I'm cut off by Heath's phone. I walk over to his nightstand and look at the caller ID. Dylan. I pick it up,"Ha-"

"Dude I've been calling for the past ten minutes why aren't you picking up?" There's a sense of panic in his voice.

"A D-"

"Forget about it. He called, said he'll meet with you on the twenty sixth. We've been waiting for this day for a long time Heath. He finally agreed, but he wants you to come alone. We'll think about a plan because I don't trust the guy. He's a killer. So you're up for it, right?" Dylan asks. Twenty sixth? Killer? Alone? "Heath?" Dylan asks. I hear the shower stop. I abruptly end the call and put his phone down.

Heath walks out of the bathroom steam trailing behind him. The only thing keeping him covered was a towel wrapped around his torso. Water droplets trails down his muscular and well defined body.

"Riley?" He asks.

"Huh? Yeah?" He raises his eyebrows and a smirk covers his face. He starts walking close to me and I start to feel claustrophobic. I put my hand up against his chest before he could get any closer and I swallow a lump in my throat. He looks down at my hand and back up at me; the smirk not leaving his face.

"Did you need something?" He asks in a husky voice.

"Ah.." Did I need something? What did I need again? Dylan called, I came upstairs for something," Oh yah! Dinner!" I say a little too loudly.

Heath chuckles," Do I make you nervous? What happened to the confidence Princess?" I glare at him. Fuck he does make me nervous. Stupid me. Before I could answer, Heath's phone starts ringing again. He glances over my shoulder to look at the night stand behind me.

"Ah just come down for dinner." I say as I hurriedly walk past him and exit his room. Dylan's going to tell him someone picked up the call. Heath's going to come and talk to me. Should I lie? What could I say?

If it's who I think he's going to meet, there's no force in this world that'll be able to make him back out of it, but if I can't make him back out of it then I'm not going to let him go alone either. I'm going to follow him on the twenty sixth to wherever he goes.
