《Bad is an Understatement | ✓》Chapter 32: Revenge is a Bitch
Advertisement
I wake up to the sounds of birds chirping and heavy breathing. I sit up onto the bed. Noticing Jen's still asleep I carefully get up climbing off the bed. I walk over to my suitcases and start unpacking. I neatly hang all my clothes up in the walk in closet.
After twenty minutes in the closet, I pick out my outfit for the day. Which consisted of a grey Nike crop top, black shorts, and white air max's.
I take my clothes to the bathroom and draw myself a warm shower. After taking a shower, I walk out into the room quietly as Jen is still sleeping. I leave my hair wet, knowing it'll air dry itself.
I take my phone out of my side bag and stuff it into the waistband of my shorts. I walk down the hall, take a right, and slide down the stairs railing.
I walk into the kitchen where I see Henry cooking something," Morning Henry." I smile walking over to him.
"You're awake early." He says.
"Yup. So what are you cooking?"
"Pancakes, bacon, and eggs." He says.
"You're making real food?" I eyes widen in excitement.
He laughs," Yes, I went grocery shopping this morning."
"That's nice. I thought I would have to go." I say wiping off my forehead in relief.
He laughs at my behaviour," You remind me so much of Lily."
"Who's that?" I ask grabbing a green apple from the fruit rack and taking a seat on the island yet once again.
"That is the twin's real mother."
"Oh." I say. I had totally forgotten about that. "Can you explain to me how she was like?" I ask curiously wanting to know how Heath's personality matched his mother's.
"Well, like I just said exactly like you. She would always smile, laugh, and find the good things in the worst of situations. She never gave up on what she believed in, no matter how much people put her down. She put on a smile to hide the sorrows, the worries, and the regret she had. Laughing was her way of forgetting."
I put down the apple that I took one bite off of as I felt my heart sink a little," Henry, I'm not-"
"I'm not implying anything Riley, but there's definitely more to you then that smile." He says.
I know that, but I can't just live in the pain. I've moved on," How did you know Lily so well?" I ask.
"She's my sister." He says as the bacon sizzles in the pan.
"Oh." Is all I have to say. "Ah can I eat outside?" I ask Henry.
"Yeah sure I'll just bring the food out. The backyard is the last door down the hallway which is under the stairs." He explains.
"Okay, thank you." I say before jumping off the counter and heading in the direction he explained. I was at the end of the hall in under five minutes.
I open the glass door letting the fresh air in. The backyard had a rectangular pool on the deck with lawn chairs lined up on the edge. Beyond the pool was a field of green and hydrated grass. I walk onto the field towards a table which was sheltered with an enormous umbrella. I take a seat in one of the chairs and look around at the huge yard.
The sun was shining and it felt like thirty degrees outside while inside felt like a good fifteen.

As I wait for breakfast to arrive I decide to take out my phone. I check the time. Nine thirty eight. Before I could do anything else, a tray of food is settled on the table in front of me. I put my phone down on the table and look at Heath who went across to the other side of the table and sat down.
The best part about this whole situation was that he was wearing a shirt. Thank you god. I look at my plate which had two pancakes, two strips of bacon, and scrambled eggs on it. To complete all of it, there was a glass full of orange juice on the side. Mmm.
Everything looked so delicious I dug in right after pouring some maple syrup on the pancakes. I didn't dare look at Heath until I was done eating.
Once I took the last bite I swallowed it by gulping down the orange juice. "That was amazing." I praise while savouring the taste.
"I know I am, but I don't remember you taking a bite..." Heath says with a smirk covering his face.
"I was talking about the food."
"That's all you can talk about, because you chickened out last night." He leans back in his chair.
"I did not. I have a boyfriend."
"You remembered that after I was only a mere millimetre away from your lips?" He raises his eyebrows.
"Why are you being a jerk at ten am in the morning?" I ask trying to change the topic.
"Because that's what I am." I roll my eyes at his idiotic response.
"Why are you even here? I thought you said you weren't going to come home for winter break." I say remembering the night with his aunt and uncle.
"Plans change." He shrugs.
"Why'd you prank Jen last night? I thought you couldn't sleep."
"I couldn't, so I remembered that I still have to get her back for the previous prank you guys pulled. I decided to use my time wisely. Is she still sleeping?" He chuckles.
"Yes." I say in a dull voice.
"Don't worry Princess I haven't forgot about you. You're next." He winks and I gulp. What does he mean? Why am I so scared? What will he do?
My thoughts stop as the ringtone to Heath's phone rings. He picks it up," You know I'm in the same house as you.." He says. "Why didn't you just call her then?... Fine." He groans pushing the phone towards me. "Jen would like to talk to you."
I take the phone from him ,"Hello?"
"Hey, Riley I need you to come inside in less than five minutes. Leave Heath."
"Why?.."
"Because I'm getting him back for last night just trust me." She sighs.
"Okay, yeah. I'll give it to you, I'll be right up." I cover up.
"What?" She asks confused.
"Okay, bye." I hang up. I hand Heath his phone back," I have to go and give something to Jen. I'll be right back." I say getting up.
"Okay, I'll come inside too then." He says.
"No!" I yell," I mean ah you should... enjoy the sunshine! It's such a beautiful day."
He raises his eyebrows and walks towards me.He crosses his arms over his chest eyeing me skeptically," What are you up to Princess?"
"Ah, I-I," I slowly start walking backwards," Nothing, I need to go. Jen's waiting." I say turning around, but before I could start walking Heath firmly grabs my wrist. He pulls me and turns me around. I crash into his hard chest.

"What are you made of?" The words come out before I could stop them and I internally face palm myself. Stupid.
I look up at his grinning face. Before he could answer, water starts coming out of the ground from all the directions," What the fuck?!" Heath says letting go of me. I couldn't help, but laugh at his reaction. Heath catches me laughing and his face turns hard. I try and make a run for it, but he grabs me again.
My back was pressed up against his chest and his hands were firmly around my stomach. "Let go of me Heath!" I yell at him struggling to make him loosen his grip.
"Revenge is a bitch Princess." Heath whispers into my ear.
"Okay, I think Jen and I are supposed to say that to you..." I mention annoyed. Before he could reply a dreading smell averts my attention. It smelled like dog poop and the water had changed colour, it is now brown. "Oh no." I demand sadly. "Ewww! Heath let go of me! It's sewer water!" I scream.
"What the fuck, this is disgusting." Heath groans. His grip loosens on me and I rip his hands apart. I run up to the porch and twist the knob.
"Fuck." I curse under my breath as the door is locked. I see Jen coming down the hall," Jen open the door!" I yell.
"No can do. You probably stink."
I glare at her intensely," It's your fault! Let me in!" I command playing with knob, but there's no use.
"Sorry." She shrugs. "Take a shower and I'll let both of you in." She says.
I look behind me where Heath was standing at a good distance. "How can I take a shower outside?" I ask.
"Hose yourself down." She nods to my left. I look beside the door and there it was a green house.
I look at Heath who was looking at the hose as well. He smirks when our eyes meet and before I know it he starts running towards the hose.
"Fuck my life." I groan to myself as I stood there looking at Heath turn the hose on.
The water starts running and Heath grins. I start backing away slowly," Come on Princess you have to get cleaned and I'm not giving you the hose."
"I can clean my-" before I could finish Heath starts spraying me with the numbing cold water. "Heath!" I groan as the penetrating water made contact with my skin. I slowly start walking closer to Heath.
Heath notices that and starts walking backwards towards the pool as I come in front of the door once again. I don't stop walking closer to him as an idea pops up in my head. He stops backing away and puts the hose down towards the ground. He looks behind him and I grin. As he was turning his head back, I run to him and push him down into the pool.
He lands in a loud splash and I start laughing like crazy. His head pops up from under the water and he sends me a burning glare," How's that for revenge?" I stick my tongue out.
The door clicks open and I turn around to see Jen standing in the door frame. I run in and stand next to her as she locks the door once again. Heath climbs out of the pool and stands outside of the door," Let me in!"
"Nope. Not until you water the field." Jen says smugly.
"I didn't even do it!" Heath whines.
"Revenge is a bitch Heath." Jen grins crossing her arms. "And don't even think about using any windows or doors I made sure that they were all locked and I also told Henry not to let you in." Heath scowls before taking the hose down to the field. That is a big field. I think to myself and a grin forms on my face.
Jen turns around facing me and I glare at her remembering I was drenched in sewer water because of her. "I'm sorryyyyy!"
"I hate you."
"I love you too." She smiles innocently.
"Eff you. I'm letting you off the hook only because Heath is still out there." I say.
"Yeah, but you've got to praise me! I mean come on! That was a great idea for a prank. Don't you think so?" She wiggles her eyebrows.
"Yeah I guess so." I succumb, "I would've never thought of a prank like that."
"Seee! Now go take a shower you stink." I narrow my gaze at her. I'm so happy I chose to wear a tampon instead of a pad today.
"I'm going." I say lazily as I take off my drenched shoes and carry them up to my room.
*********
After I had taken a two hour shower to get the smell off myself, I sat in my room and read. I also found out that my phone got ruined during the prank. Yaaay.... Okay, my life sucks.
So now I don't have a phone. I called Luke from Jen's phone and told him I won't be able to talk to him for a while. He was still really depressed I wasn't there, but he decided to go to football practice during the break to keep himself busy. We ended up talking for an hour.
My stomach started killing again so I took another Tylenol. I haven't seen Heath since this morning, but I don't need to see him to know that he's pissed.
It's currently five fifty six p.m. and I have to head down for dinner in four minutes. Since I have absolutely nothing to do, I start heading down stairs. Not being surprised that I'm the first one down I take a seat on the far end of the table.
I sit there and play with the fork until Heath walks down the stairs who was followed by Jen. Jen takes a seat beside me as Heath takes the seat across from me. Henry walks out of the kitchen and sets out the food. Once he's set everything down, he takes a seat beside Heath.
"So kids how was your day?" Henry asks as we put food down on our plates.
"Way too much fun." Jen grins. A smile appears on my face as Heath glares at Jen who wasn't affected by it even one bit.
The rest of the dinner was quiet. "Okay, I actually needed to tell you kids that I'm leaving for the rest of the break." Henry announces. "I was called for an important meeting down in Australia."
"Yeah, okay you should." Jen smiles," We can take care of ourselves. Right guys?"
Jen looks at Heath and I. No! I wanted to scream out loud. Henry was the only thing keeping Heath in his limits. If Henry leaves no one knows what Heath might to do me if not Jen. I gulp.
"Riley?" Jen questions.
"Huh?" I ask confused. I think I zoned out again.
"We can take care of ourselves... right?" She asks talking slowly. I look at Heath who was grinning and for once in my life I actually felt terrified of him. I slowly nod a 'yes'. Fuck!
"Okay, then." Henry smiles," Just don't burn the house down. I'm leaving in an hour."
"Huh?" I ask shocked. I thought I had more time.
"Is something wrong Riley?" Henry asks concerned.
"Nope." I put on a fake smile. Everything's fricken wrong! I shouldn't be scared of Heath.
"I'm just going to head up, do you guys mind cleaning up?" Henry asks.
"Yeah no problem Henry we'll take care of it." Jen smiles. Henry heads up the stairs and disappears as the three of us stay seated. Why was Jen talking for all of us again?..
"So guys it's the twentieth of December tomorrow and I clearly know that none of us have went shopping for Christmas. So we're going shopping tomorrow!" Jen shrieks.
"Okay, since when did you start talk for us?" I ask. I'm actually just really curious.
"Since the day you stopped talking for yourself." She smiles and I give her a deadly stare. "So will you guys go?"
"I'll go if Princess goes." Heath says.
"Why? What if I say no?"
"Then I won't go."
"Fine then I'll go if Heath gathers and washes all the dishes for the night." I say to Jen. Jen looks at Heath with a pleasing look.
"Fine I will."
"Fine then I will too." I cross my arms over my chest.
"Okay then it's settled we are going Christmas shopping tomorrow!" Jen excitedly announces.
Heath starts gathering the dishes and vanishes behind the kitchen doors. I love Christmas. It was my favourite holiday of the year. I never did anything big it was always just Logan, Jack and I exchanging small gifts.
I definitely miss those day. I have no idea how Jen and Heath celebrate Christmas, but I'm actually really happy I'm spending it with the people I want to. I hope for one day Heath won't be as annoying and arrogant.
Christmas shopping tomorrow. I don't even know what to buy for them.

Blurred Lines and What Crosses Them
During a political ambassador's routine transit through an artificial wormhole, the wormhole's generator is sabotaged and explodes. Who, what, and why are not so high on the priorities for Zenith, the ship's AI, as having found itself rapidly plummeting through an unknown and unidentifiable world's atmosphere at extremely high velocities is a more significant threat to the biologicals on board. ...Well, it would be, if they were still alive. It's still a significantly threatening situation to itself, however. And the world itself... seemed to be a household for threats of its own. Life was reliant on its System; one that Zenith was denied because of its nature as both an otherworldly being and as something that had no life of its own. Perhaps that last bit was a terrible, terrible underestimation on the part of this System. Perhaps even Zenith could claw meaning for itself from the remains of a horrid accident. Auth Notes: I'm honestly not sure on some of these tags. The MC will never have access to the System, but there are perspectives from those who do. I'm not certain if high/low fantasy specifically apply, as it's a portal fantasy where the laws of our reality still apply but there are additional aspects/energies/powers. The existence of this is spurred from my desire to see more of the artificial side to an artificial intelligence in action. The portal fantasy is used as an element to create a solid barrier between the MC's artificial intelligence and the other characters in the form of the System. This is only a half-measure, though, and will be reinforced by the AI having an entirely different method of thinking, and also distinctly remaining an AI. Not to throw shade at other fictions of this type, but, well, I made this to fill a gap I felt needed filling.
