《Bad is an Understatement | ✓》Chapter 24

"Riley, this is the last round before you try for the win. Just stay focused. Remember Connor always tries to fool you by moving a different hand than the one he's going to punch with. Understood?" Logan asks.
Today's Sunday. I had a pretty easy fight yesterday, I didn't even end up with any major injuries. If I win this one I'm versing Heath for the final round.
The week went by pretty fast. I didn't run into Luke, but I did message him. I couldn't tell him to stay away from me without having a valid reason.
"Ready?" Logan asks as the referee starts.
"Like always." I smirk making my way to the middle of the ring.
Conner had a lot of muscle and looked pretty skilled. We shake our hands firmly. "Ready to lose little girl?" He asks. I roll my eyes in response.
"Talking about yourself Conner?" I reply and he scowls at me.
I scan the audience the whole gang was here even Heath, probably just trying to pick up on my tricks for the fight tomorrow. I look at the crowd behind Connor and spot a certain blond. Luke. I smile and he smiles back.
I didn't think he would show up. I roll my neck and hear it crack. Okay, Riley just focus. Focus on your opponent. "The rules are pretty simple. Don't kill each other and stop when the person gives up." The referee states and the whistle blows. I put my balled hands up in defence.
I watch Connor's feet move and I copy. He swings his left hand and I respond by moving to the other side, but I feel a heavy impact on the left side of my face. Everything blurs for a second. I blink away and look back up at him grinning.
"Focus on the player Riley. Feel the adrenaline." I hear Jack's voice and I swing at Conner nailing him right in the temple.
He groans out loud. "That's the best you got, girly?" He asks taking another swing, but I dodge in time and take another swing at his abs.
"Good job Riley. Keep focusing. Keep the adrenaline flowing." Jack's voice runs through my head.
I feel a sharp pain in my gut and let out a huge breath of air. "UGH!" I groan clutching my stomach. Before I could recover I feel another punch land on my face and fall down on the ring back first.
The taste of blood runs through my taste buds making me realize I bit my tongue. My eyes become blurry and all the cheering around me becomes muffled. I try to get up, but another impactful punch pushes me down and I groan in pain. I lay down on the floor trying to get rid of the pain and my blurry vision.

"Riley! Get up! Fight Riley! Get the fuck of your ass and fight!" I hear someone's behind me outside of the ring.
Riley get up. You have to win this. I encourage myself. I turn around and get up on my hands and knees. I look at Heath," Fight Riley." He states and I spit the blood out of my mouth.
I get up and turn around to see Connor smirking. "You should really know when to quit, girly." He makes his way towards me. Confidence visible in the way he walked.
He swings, but I move my head to the side and grab his arm in the process. I pull it back and he groans in pain as I hear his arm crack at his elbow. He falls down on his knees. I walk around to face him and punch him square in the face.
He falls back and I sit on top of him looking at his pained expression. I punch him again.
"Jack," I sob," I promise. I swear, okay? Just stay with me. Pl-please."
His eyes close and his breath hitches midway," Jack?" I cry," Jack!" I pull him closer to my face and I cry into his chest.
"Riley get off him. I have to hide his body." I hear my dad say with no emotion showing.
"Y-you, you did this to him. Y-you k-killed him. He was innocent!" I yell getting up. And he slaps me across the face.
"You don't use that tone with me Riley." He says.
"Stop it Riley! You're killing him!" I feel arms around my waist pulling me off of someone.
"Jack!" I struggle in the person's arms and he finally lets me go. "Logan?" I ask. Not believing that I was here.
"He's here isn't he?" Logan asks.
"Who's here?" I ask.
"Luke." He says. I turn around to see Connor lying on the floor with blood covering his whole face. Paramedics came rushing in. My hands reach my head as a severe headache starts. Tears slip away from my eyes," Wh-what did I do?" I ask in shock. I almost killed Connor.
"Riley?" I fall down on my knees and start sobbing.
"I-I almost k-killed Connor. Oh my god. I almost became him. L-Logan I-I shit." I cry.
"Riley I'm going to take you to my place for the night." Logan says pulling me up to my feet.
"N-No I -I need to see i-if Connors al-live." I stutter between taking breathes.
"Riley they took him to the hospital."
"Then I'm going there." I wipe away my tears and run out of the ring and through the crowd. My whole body felt sore, but that didn't stop me from running to my car.

I get into my car and drive to the hospital. I rush in," Uh c-can I know about a patient that just came i-in the ambulance. His name's Connor h-he was fighting."
The receptionist nods," It says here he's fine a few stitches, but they're running some tests for any internal damage and he has a broken arm."
I sigh in relief," Th-thank you."
"Princess!" I hear Heath. He grabs my arms and yanks on it turning me around.
"Ugh." I groan in pain and anger.
"What's wrong with you?!" He yells at me. "You can't just go running off like that."
"Yes I can. You're not the boss of me." I sound like an angry two year old.
"I don't have to be the boss of you to care about you. You could've crashed your car. To be honest who knows what you would've done!"
"I'm fine Heath, but I'm forfeiting I'm not playing against you tomorrow." I make the decision on the spot.
"Why?!" He asks.
"Did you not see what I just did. That could've been you!" I yell.
"So what?! That's what fighting is all about!"
"No! I get to decide weather I fight or not. And I'm not fighting!" I glare at Heath.
"Can you guys please take your arguing somewhere else." The receptionist says and I nod walking out of the hospital. I wipe away my tears.
"Riley, you can't give up."
"Watch me." I get into my car. I sit down and clutch my stomach in pain. I look down at my bare stomach and see a huge blue and purple bruise forming. I breathe and start the engine. I drive back to the ring. Heath hot on my trail riding on his motorcycle.
Once I get back, I see police officers talking to someone. I find Logan," Oh my god Riley. What's wrong with you?!"
"Nothing. Where's the organizer of this tournament?" I ask.
"He just came in. He's talking to the police." I look at a man dressed in a suit talking to a couple of the officers.
I walk up to him," I'm quitting." I say and he turns around," Mr. Johnson?" Shock apparent in my tone.
"Uh, Ms. King. I wasn't aware of you being a fighter." He states calmly.
"I am and I'm forfeiting." I say. He turns back around to the officers.
"So we're clear right? It was just an accident and all this is permitted." The police officers nod and leave. Mr. Johnson turns back around.
"Ms. King you cannot forfeit."
"What?! Why!" I ask in disbelief.
"It's a part of the conditions. The only way a fighter can get out of a fight is if he or she cannot fight physically."
"I wasn't aware that there were conditions." I state.
"Officer Logan was." His words and posture both calm.
"But I wasn't. I'm the fighter and I'm not fighting. That's my final decision. "
"I'm sorry Riley, but you have no choice." He says.
"You don't control me no one does." I say trying not to throw a punch at his aggravating calm behaviour.
"It's either you fight or pay the fee for breaking the terms."
"What fee?!"
"Fifty million dollars." He says.
"You've got to be kidding me?" I scoff. He lets out a cold laugh. "This is bullshit." I say before leaving. I clench my jaw in the process to stop myself from blurting out any more profanities. I walk back over to Logan," What the fuck! Why didn't you tell me there were conditions to fighting in this stupid tournament?!"
"Because I knew you wouldn't say yes if you knew everything was official." He states.
I pull at my hair," What am I supposed to do? I can't fight. What if I kill Heath?"
"We'll stop Luke from coming." Logan suggests.
"You can't stop Luke from coming and neither can I. His father is the organizer of this tournament." I state.
How come I didn't know? Luke didn't tell me anything either. All this doesn't fit in together.
"How about we talk about this back at my place. Where I can also attend those nasty bruises."
"You definitely know how to make a girl feel better." I say with pure sarcasm.
"Hey, Riley!" Jen comes and hugs me. I wince at the sudden contact. "Sorry."
"It's okay." I smile.
"You okay?" Kylie asks.
"Yeah." I nod.
"You don't look okay." Dylan says.
"You didn't sound okay either." Ian says.
I let out a dry laugh," I'm more then okay and even if I'm not I will be after Logan fixes my bruises."
"Why'd you yell Jack's name?" Kylie asks.
I gulp," I didn't yell anyone's name. Even if I did, I don't remember." I say shrinking under Logan's intense gaze. He knew I was lying, but if he knows anything about me. Then he won't push it.
"Guys Riley's been through a lot for one day. I think she could use some rest." Logan says before anyone else could question me.
"Yeah you should get a lot of rest before the big fight tomorrow." Dylan suggests.
"Yeah. I'll be staying at Logan's for the night." I say to Jen. She nods.
"See ya tomorrow fighter." Kylie says. Logan and I make our way out after I wrap his over sized jacket around myself.
