《Bad is an Understatement | ✓》Chapter 14

"Thanks for dinner, I had fun." I mention as Luke drops me off in front of the dorm.
"Yeah? I'm happy you did. Hey, I actually have a game tomorrow you should come and watch it'll mean a lot." He says with a puppy dog face.
"I'll see I have work from ten to six."
"Well the games at seven. I'd really like it if you would come."
"I'll think about." I say," Bye."
"Bye, I'll be waiting." He says before driving off.
"How could you do that?!" I hear a deep voice from the tree slash bench area where I had gotten pranked on the second night.
I walk over and hide behind a tree as I see Heath and Kirsten arguing," What are you talking about?!" Kirsten asks.
"Don't act dumb." Heath says through gritted teeth," Mark spilled everything. She could've died!" He continues and Kirsten scoffs crossing her arms.
"I knew there was something going on between you two. And she didn't die calm down I just want to be captain that's all."
"Don't you dare try to pin this on me, and you needed somebody to almost die to become captain?!" Tears start to fall from my eyes. I've never done or said anything to her how could she. I wipe my tears away. I could've died.
"She's alive get over it."
"You know what I am over it. I'm over us. We're done. You can go fuck all the guys you want." Kirsten gasps.
"Okay. Now you can go fuck Riley all you want. I knew you were just using me the whole time." She says walking away probably holding back tears, or trying to hide them. Heath goes the opposite way leaving me all alone.
I make my way into my room and lock it behind me once I'm in. Not having enough energy to even change I plop onto my bed.
I wrap myself around with the blanket and feel the empty spot beside me on the bed. I really wish you were here Jack. I wipe away an emotionless tear. Soon enough I fall into a deep sleep. Since when did I become so weak, again?...
*********
Beep. Beep. Beep.
I wake up to my stupid alarm. I sit up and grab my phone turning off the sound. Eight thirty a.m. I go through my various accounts.
I open my iMessage which had over a hundred unread messages. Most of them were asking if I'm okay or not, or if I became captain and all that shiz. But one catches my eye.
Congrats on becoming captain princess

"Hey, Riley!" I look up from the book I was reading.
"Kylie! How are you?" She leans on the counter.
"I'm good, how are you? I heard what happened yesterday."
"I'm better." I think about all the things that happened yesterday.
"Congrats on becoming captain! I checked the website."
"Haha thanks." I smile.
"As a sorry and congratulations gift, Jen and I are taking you out tonight." Kylie announces.
"Tonight? And what are you sorry about?" I ask.
"Yeah, what's wrong with tonight? And I'm sorry for not coming yesterday, and inviting the boys to the beach."
"Oh and nothing's wrong. I was just planning on going to the football game after work." I say cautiously. I really didn't want her to get mad.
"There's a football game tonight?" She asks. I nod in response.
"You should come with." I suggest.
"Yeah Ian would've killed us if we didn't show up."
"Why?"
"Because we have this thing where we have to show up to all our first games to the season."
"You play sports?"
"No, I dance, Jen cheerleads, Ian plays football, Dylan and Heath play basketball."
"Oh." I had no idea Jen cheerleads. Never thought she was the peppy, mini skirt type of girl.
"Okay, so football game tonight. Outing tomorrow. No excuses accepted."
"Okay." I say fake surrendering. "So what brought you here?" I ask.
"Psychology." She sighs," I'll be right back with the work book." She comes back about five minutes later," This please." She puts the workbook down on the counter.
"Seventy eight dollars." I say after scanning the barcode. "Credit?" I ask looking at the card she was holding up and she nods.

"Okay, I'll see you tonight then!" She says before leaving.
"Bye!" I say.
*********
I look around the huge crowded field trying to spot Kylie and Dylan. Kylie had messaged me saying they're sitting right behind home team.
I spot the home team's spot and walk over to the bleachers. "Hey, you made it!" Dylan says.
"Yes, I did. Did you think I'd get lost?"
"No, I just thought you weren't going to come, because we are talking about cheering on Ian. You know?" I nod.
"Ian and I are okay. I think." I say thinking about the fact that we haven't talked since the party.
"Okay, though congrats on becoming captain." Dylan says.
"Thanks." I smile sitting down beside him. The stadium was packed with people. I look around and see the cheerleaders at the far end from us. I tried to look for Jen, but they were all dressed the same and it was hard to figure out the difference.
"Hey, princess." Heath says taking the empty seat beside me.
"Hey."
"What's wrong?" He asks.
"Nothing's wrong. Why?"
"You just seem a little off."
"I didn't have such a good sleep." I lie. I was a little off, but just with him. He knew what Kirsten did and he still doesn't feel like he should tell me about it. He doesn't reply and I scan the players down in front of us.
"Ian's number seven." Dylan says noticing me searching, but he clearly didn't know who I was searching for because it was Luke. I nod, and smile like that's who I was looking for.
I finally spot Luke without his helmet on listening to his coach. His blonde hair was messy and he looked like he was sweating wearing all the gear and the number '21' jersey. He looks at me and smiles. His radiant smile causes me to blush and I look away.
*********
"Good job Ian!" Heath says patting Ian on the back. I'm not much of a football fan, but I know Ian and Luke both did pretty well.
"Hey, you came." Ian says to me.
"Yup. Congrats on winning." I smile.
"Thanks." He says and I notice Luke with a couple of other guys from the team. I walk to him.
"Hey." I say standing in front of him.
"Hey." All the other guys leave. "So you thought about it and decided to come, huh?" He smiles.
"That's why I'm here, aren't I?" He laughs," You were great." For some reason I had this weird warm feeling inside of me when I talked to him.
"But not as well as you were out in the court yesterday. Congrats on becoming captain." I laugh putting a loose strand of hair behind my ear.
His charming blue eyes followed my every move making me nervous. We stand there for what felt like years just staring at each other like we were some sort of historical artifacts. But the gazing got too much for me so I fake a cough," Ah, Luke?" He shakes his head pulling him out of the unknown thoughts.
"Sorry, you look cute." I blush even more.
"Thanks and you.. look ... um tired?"
"Haha yeah." He laughs. " Hey you know what, are you free Tuesday?
"I don't have anything planned."
"Okay. I wanna take you out somewhere I'll pick you up at nine in the morning."
"In the morning?" I groan and he nods while laughing amused by my reaction. "Okay, but it better be worth it. Or else." I warn him narrowing my eyes and I eventually end up laughing at my own weirdness.
"Hey, I'll text you later. I really need to get out of this gear." He says laughing.
"Yeah and no offence, but you stink." I say.
"Oh really?" He says smirking and walking towards me.
"Oh, no." I put my hand up moving back," Luke!" I shriek turning around trying to get away from him, but he bear hugs me and picks me up. "Ew! Luke you're disgusting!" I shriek as he rubs his sweaty face on my shoulder. He lets go of me, and I take a few steps away from his chuckling figure. "Go and change!" I yell rubbing his stench off me. I cross my arms as he doesn't stop laughing.
"Okay, okay. I'm going." He says running back. I laugh walking back to Kylie guys.
"What?" I ask as I get stared down by everyone except for Heath who looked like he was ready to break a couple of bones with his clenched jaw.
"Just the huge smile on your face." Ian says.
"I smile." I point out.
"And that little twinkle in your eyes." Kylie says.
"There's stadium lights here."
"And your flushed cheeks." Dylan adds.
"I'm human."
"Sound's like someone's in love." Jen says coming up beside me in her cheerleading outfit.
"Noway." I say.
"Who is it?" Jen asks.
"No one." I say.
"Luke Johnson." Heath says like he was spilling venom out of his mouth and I stiffen.
"No it's not like that. He's just a friend." I protest.
"We sure hope so. He's bad news Riley. Take it from one of his team mates." Ian says and I gulp.
"Like I've said before I'm not going to judge him over some rumours." I say strictly and walk away hiding in the dark night.
A/N:
What the. Kirsten was really desperate to become captain:/ Do you guys ship Luke and Riley? Is Luke really that bad? I don't see anything fishy...

The Path of Ascension
The story follows Matt, a young man planning to delve the rifts responsible for the monsters that destroyed his city and killed his parents. His dreams are crushed when his Tier 1 Talent is rated as detrimental, and no guild or group will take him. Working at a nearby inn, he meets a mysterious and powerful couple. They give him a chance to join The Path of Ascension, an empire wide race to ascend the Tiers and become living legends. With their recommendation and a stolen skill, Matt begins his journey to the peak of power. *** Chapters will now be MONDAY and FRIDAY AT 4:00pm EST. This is a mix between LitRPG and Xianxia. It's like a car that looks like a LitRPG with dungeons and skills, but the interior and engine are all Xianxia. So no blue boxes and clicking +’s to get stronger. *** What you won't see in this novel: Bland protagonists. Bland love interests that immediately fall in love with the MC. Murder hobos who kill entire families and clans for looking the wrong way at somebody. Pacifist MC’s who wouldn't kill a single person to save millions. Cartoonish villains who are bad just to be bad. *** What to expect: A MC who acts rationally. World building that has more depth than ‘strong people 'stronk'. There will be no rules only benefiting the strong and no rule changes as they see fit. An empire that actually cares for its citizens. People who act and talk like real people. A magic system and progression system that are logically and internally consistent. Realistic fight scenes.

The Dawnfire Archives
It begins in the endless wastes, with an unknown man arriving at the bottom of the tallest mountain in existence. A mysterious voice provides few directions, bringing more questions than answers. Regardless, after choosing a name and weapon... the man begins to climb. He will not be alone on this journey. A young individual from a different reality has also made his way to The Climb. But what does their arrival bode for the people of this world? And where does climbing the mountain truly lead? This is my second novel on Royal Road, the first being "Beyond the Horizon's Eye", and the third being "The Card Thief of Culnivar". This story is much more GameLIT than Xianxia, and takes place in a different setting with an entirely new cast of characters. It does, however, contain several ties between the stories. Average post between 1000 - 3000 words.
