《He Saved Me》Chapter twenty seven

"Everything seems to be going smoothly. If it continues like this then we can hopefully get you out of here tomorrow" The doctor says and I nod, smiling.

"Thank you so much doctor" I say and he smiles, walking out.

"Oh thank god" I say closing my eyes.

"I can't take this tiny little room anymore. I've barely moved" I say shifting next to Mason.

"I know Le, but you need to rest. Those ribs aren't going to heal while you overwork yourself" He laughs.

"I know. But I'm fine. My ribs just hurt a little. I just need to get out of here" I sigh.

It's just Mason and I right now. I made Ellie, Brooks and Christine go to the party tonight. I tried to get Mason to go but he refused, stating that he 'didn't want to deal with Samantha's bullshįt'. I'll admit, it was really funny. Right now we are sitting in my bed, eating frozen yogurt Mason had gotten. We are watching a movie as well as making small talk.

"Um, hey. Thank you Mas" I place my spoon down, turning to him.

"What for?" He asks placing some cookies and creme froyo in his mouth.

"For always being so supportive and loving. You have barely left my side the whole time I've been here. I mean, you gave up your social life for the past two days and I know that you will do the same until my ribs are healed at least. It's different from what I'm used to and I'm so thankful. I really, truly am. Thank you so much for everything Mason. I don't think I tell you enough. I love you" I say, hugging him.

"I'll always be here for you Leah. I love you too" He says, kissing my temple.

"Hi, Leah. I have a quick question" A nurse says coming into my room, holding my chart.

"I was wondering if you would be interested in transferring to a shared room. The cost would go down and you should hopefully be here for not much longer" She says and I nod.

"Yes, please. I will gladly take it" I say causing her to smile.

"Great, we will bring you there soon" She gives me a soft smile and leaves.

"So much good news today" I say smiling. Now the bill hopefully won't be as bad. It's still going to be painfully high but with the price for the room to decrease will be amazing.

"Yeah, yeah. I'm glad you feel that way" He smiles, realization flashing across his face.

"What? whats wrong?" I ask, concerned.

"I left something in my car. Don't switch rooms without me. I'll be right back" He says sprinting out of the room.

Shortly after two nurses come in. "Hi Leah, we are just going to take everything to your new room and then we will be back for you" One nurse says grabbing a vase and some other gifts from people.

Before today I never realized that there are people who actually care for me. Obviously the Whites do, they got me flowers and ice cream. Christine, Brooks and Ellie got me flowers and a bear, a bunch of guys from the football team pitched in a sent me a card and a bear, a couple people from school that I had spoken to a couple times gave Mason cards for me. Grace and her family sent me an edible arrangement, card and bear. All the love and support from everyone has been insane.

"Yeah, I'm just waiting for someone to get back" I say and they nod, walking out.

"I'm back" Mason says with an even breath. His chest is moving up and down, still wearing the same red shirt that he caught me checking him out in earlier. The one that made me extremely happy once he asked me to be his girlfriend.

He smirks, walking towards me, his hands behind his back. "Someone seems to take a liking to this shirt. It's a pretty lucky shirt" He says, sitting next to me, handing me my blanket and a pillow from his house.

"Thank you, you're a lifesaver" I say laughing, hugging them both close to me. The pillow has a silk pillowcase on it, my absolute favorite. He brought the fluffy blanket he had bought me since I'm always cold.

"How is it lucky?" I ask, curious.

"Well, some of the best days of my life happens while wearing this shirt. You said yes to being my girlfriend earlier while I was still wearing this. You sent a pretty strong message after too" He winks, hinting at the fact that I've been checking him out. I blush in response. "I also wore this my freshman year, the day of my big game. I don't think you remember but I sure as hell do, I wore this beloved shirt the day that my whole life changed. Definitely the best day, when I first talked to you" He says, staring into my eyes.

Damn, is he good with his words. I can't compete with that.

"Mason, you have to give me something to work with. I can't be the one who seems like they aren't interested. Stop being so good at everything" I say laughing.

"Hey, this is pretty new to me too" He says looking down, awkwardly.

"The Mason White has never had a girlfriend before?" I raise my eyebrows.

"Well, its complicated. Only once but I was young" He says, playing with his fingers. Thats new.

"Well, I'm not nearly as advanced as you are. So please, work with me and give me time. There are some things that only select people know because of family connections and that might take a lot for me to tell you" I say looking down.

"Okay, I won't push you Le. I never have, I never will" He says grabbing my hand, smiling.

I look up, running my fingers through his hair. It's so silky, compared to my greasy hair that hasn't been washed in days.

"Okay, we will be bringing you up. Absolutely no guests past 11:00 Mr. White" Marissa says coming into the room.

"Yes, of course. Sorry" He laughs, grabbing his and my bag.

I get up and into the wheelchair that they have next to my bed.

"Here, I'll take that" I say to Mason, he shakes his head.

"You're so annoying" I laugh, texting Ellie to bring me dry shampoo tomorrow.

"This is your new roommate, his name is Tim. He must be in the bathroom. Let us know if you have any problems or need anything" She smiles, helping me onto the bed.

They leave and Mason sits on the couch next to the bed. "What do you say I stay again tonight?" He asks winking.

"You know you can't. Doctor and nurses orders. Plus, we don't want to bother Tim" I say and he nods.

Tim then comes out of the bathroom. He looks oddly familiar.

"Mason? What are you doing here man? Everything okay?" The guy says, Mason standing up to shake his hand.

"Leah got into an accident so I've been with her. What happened to you?" He asks, looking at Tim, nothing looks wrong.

"Oh, you must be the girl. I've heard a lot about you. How long have you guys been here? I broke a couple ribs at the game the other day so they wanted to run some tests. Nothing major. I play hockey with Mason here" He says throwing an arm around Masons shoulder.

"He's like my best friend on the team. Two days, we are leaving tomorrow though. Fingers crossed" Mason answers for me.

I yawn, its been a long day, I'm exhausted.

"Someone looks tired" Tim laughs, sitting on his bed.

"Yeah, I haven't been getting much sleep though" I say, laying down facing him and Mason.

"Yeah, you look pretty beat up. I'm sorry if I'm stepping out of line but why have you been here so long?" He asks and I shake my head, bad choice.

"Um, sorry one second." I say, calming the pain.

"Le, you gotta stop doing that" Mason says holding my hand.

"I know, I keep forgetting. I um, I have a concussion, broken ribs, a broken leg, broken arm, multiple gashes that needed stitches and possible surgery or blood transfusion from internal bleeding" I say and his eyes widen.

"Woah, I was not expecting that" He says nervously.

"Yeah, not many are. I'm sorry, you go to our school right?" I say.

He laughs, nodding. "Yeah, yeah. I do. I'm kind of distant from everyone besides the guys on the team. I'm more of a homebody" He asks and I nod.

"Yeah, I understand. I was the same way before I met Mason. He's gotten me out of my shell and around people more" I say, he gives me a forced smile.

"Yeah, a bunch of guys on the hockey team would mention your name. Talking about homework or something?" He asks looking at Mason.

"It's fine Mas. Yeah, I used to do all the jocks homework. I've been easing down on it recently" I say and he nods.

"Gotcha, whats with him?" He points at Mason.

"She let them walk all over her" He sits on my bed, hand still in mine. I reposition myself so that I'm sitting up now.

"It's okay Mason. I'm fine" I say, running my fingers up and down his arms, calming him. Goosebumps emerge from my touch, causing me to smirk.

"Man are you whipped" Tim says causing me to laugh.

"Shut up" He rolls his eyes, taking his shoes off, sitting with his legs crossed.

"This damn IV" I mumble, it getting caught around my fingers.

"I know, I'm sorry love. It'll all be done soon" Mason says, kissing my cheek, now standing up.

"Where are you going?" I ask and he nods towards the bathroom.

Just then a face time call flashes across my screen. It's Ellie.

"Hey Elle, is everything okay?" I ask, her face popping up.

"Chris, she answered" Ellie slurs out.

"We just wanted to check on you" Ellie says, her voice back to normal. For a second I thought she was drunk.

"I'm okay. Are you guys drunk" I ask and they shake their heads violently.

"No, we had one beer tonight. This is water" Ellie says holding up her cup, I nod.

"This is Tim" I say panning the screen over to him. "I am sharing a room until I get discharged tomorrow" I say and they smile.

"Hi Tim" Christine and Ellie yell.

"Okay, well we will be over asap. So will Mason" Ellie laughs, I nod.

"Yeah, I know" I chuckle, shaking my head.

"Who are you on with?" Mason says, taking his shoes off again and sitting behind me this time.

"Your sister and Christine. Wheres Brooks?" I ask and Ellie shrugs.

"He went off with the football guys somewhere. I'm not worried" She says, taking a sip of her water.

"Okay, well I'll let you two go. Have fun" I say ending the call, leaning into Masons arms. His legs are around me, back up against the bed, arms wrapped around me, awkwardly.

"Mas, I'm not a piece of glass" I say laughing.

"Are you sure about that?" Tim laughs, now sitting back on his bed.

"Yes, I'm a hundred percent sure of it" I roll my eyes.

"You guys are so cute" He laughs, looking at his phone.

"Thanks Tim, hey. Do you know when our next game is?" Mason asks and he nods.

"Yeah, tomorrow night sometime" He says and I smile.

"I'll get to go" I say, Mason nods.

"Yes you will"

"Mason, what are you still doing here? Visiting hours are over" Marissa says coming into the room.

"You can't pull some strings?" He asks, sheepishly.

"No I cannot. Go. Now" She says, hands on her hips.

"Fine" He says getting his shoes on and kissing me goodnight.

"Don't try anything" He says, Tim shrugging and shaking his head in reply.

"Nah man, I won't. I'm gonna hit the hay soon" He says, shaking Masons hand again.

"Alright Le, I'll be back first thing tomorrow" He says, walking out with his bag.

Time to stay up all night again, bored out of my mind!
