《He Saved Me》Chapter twenty five

I woke up, still holding Masons hand. Butterflies run through my body.

"Leah, you're up? Has he been here all night?" The doctor says and I hesitantly answer.

"Yes, I'm sorry. It wont happen again" I say and he nods.

"Okay. How are you feeling?" He says looking at my chart.

"My side really hurts and I have an off and on headache. But other than that, pretty good" I say and he nods.

"Yeah, thats going to be like that for some time. We can give you some pain killers but thats needs approval from your parents since its very strong" He says and I nod.

"Yeah, it's okay. I don't need anything" I say and he nods.

"Okay, let me or your nurse know if you need anything" He says and I nod, thanking him.

Mason stirs, grunting.

"Hey Mas" I say as his eyes open.

"Hey, how'd you sleep?" He asks, stretching his neck.

"Pretty good the second time" I say laughing.

"Did the doctor come in?" He asks, standing up, stretching.

"Yeah, he just checked on me and told me that theres no visitors at night. He wants me to rest" I say, Masons face falls.

"But-" He says and I shake my head, mentally slapping myself in my face for that action.

"Mason, you need to sleep. Get some nice rest tonight after your game and then you can come here in the morning. But, you should spend time with your friends" I say, his hand back in mine again.

"I can't. Someone has to be here. I helped you last night" He says and I nod.

"I know you did. But I'm okay. I've been suffering from this for years. I'll figure something out" I say kissing his cheek.

"Le-" He says as people walk into the room.

"Heyy, Leah. Ellie told us about what happened and we wanted to come check on you" Christine says walking in with Ellie and Brooks, a bear in her hand and flowers in Brooks.

"Hey guys, I'm doing good" I say hugging them as best as I can, thanking them for the bear and flowers.

"Yeah, of course. So, what happened? How hurt are you?" Brooks says, wrapping his arm around Ellie.

"I ran a red light because of something and here I am. A couple broken ribs, arm and leg, concussion and internal bleeding. I have to stay here for the rest of break" I say rolling my eyes. My last five days of winter break are wasted on me being stupid.

"Oh my gosh. What are they going to do for it?" Christine says.

"We are going to check the bleeding and if it seems to be getting worse than possible surgery but fingers crossed that its nothing too bad. I cant afford it" I say laughing.

"Leah, if you even need help, financially, I can help you. You know that" Mason says and I nod.

"Yeah, I know. I'll be okay Mas" I smile and he gives me a nervous look.

"We are backk" Tara says, Jim in tow.

"Hey, how are you?" I say hugging her.

"I'm doing okay. How are you? Any news?" Tara says and I nod.

Mason answers for me and worry fills her face.

"Where is the bleeding?" Jim asks and I pull the blanket down, revealing the hospital gown.

"It is right here" I say pointing to my left side. Thats what got the most impact. Both my left leg and arm are broken from it.

"Does it feel tense?" Tara asks and I shake my head.

"No worse than anywhere else" I say and she smiles, nodding.

"How did you sleep?" Ellie asks, sitting down by my feet.

"Um" I hesitate, looking at Mason.

"Not very well" I say looking down at my hands, needing something to play with.

Mason notices and lightly places his bracelet in my hand.

I take it and start rolling it in my hands.

"Are you okay Leah?" Christine asks and I nod, blinking back the tears.

You're stronger than this Leah. It wasn't real.

Masons eyes skim my face, searching for anything. Anything that would help him understand how I'm feeling at this second. I give him a small smile, looking up at everyone.

"Yeah, Yeah I'm fine" I say nodding.

"Alright, listen man. It's 10, coach wants you at the rink at 11. We gotta go" Brooks says and Mason nods.

"Christine and I are going to stay with Leah. Mom wanted to as well but she decided to go out and then bring us ice cream" Ellie says causing me to laugh.

"I, listen. I know I said I would play but-" Mason says and I kiss his hand.

"Mason, go. You're gonna do great. Do it for me" I say, tears springing to his eyes.

"Okay, fine. I'll be right back Le" He says kissing my cheek, grabbing his stuff and running out with Brooks and his parents.

"Leah, what happened last night? You seem really shaken up" Ellie asks, Christine taking Masons place.

"I had a nightmare. I'm fine though" I say clearing my throat.

We talk and laugh, happy to be with each other.

"I love you guys" I say, slowly pulling them into a hug.

"Oh, oh Leah. Don't hurt yourself" Christine says , stopping me.

"We love you too" She continues.

"It's Brooks" Ellie says pulling out her phone.

"Hey guys, the games about to start" That was fast.

"Mason is right there" He points to a white and gold jersey.

Ellie hands me the phone and we all surround it.

Its halftime and we are creaming the other team. I have no doubts that we are going to win this game.

Mason is making some great shots. He seems to be taking out all his emotions on the ice and it's working out for them. He really has a lot of talents.

During halftime he ran over to Brooks and grabbed the phone.

"Hey, how do I look?" He asks, smiling. His cheeks rosy.

"I don't know much about hockey but you are killing it out there. Good job Mas" I say coughing.

"Thanks, are you okay?" He asks concerned.

"Yeah, I'm fine" I say between coughs. Go out there and destroy them" I say and he flashes me one of his famous toothy smiles, causing me to blush.

I've never seen my best friend look at someone the way he looks at Leah.

Walking into the hospital room was heartbreaking. Leah is one of my best friends and she's been through a lot for only being 17. No one deserves what she's been put through. I'm not supposed to know what happened but Ellie told me, I promised that I wouldn't tell a soul.

The first thing I saw walking into that hospital room was Masons face. His bags were huge, hand intertwined with Leah's. He had a soft smile on his face with glossy eyes.

Leah was all bandaged up with tubes and machines all over her. The white cast apparent. Leah looked even more tired than Mason.

I can tell how much all the Whites care about Leah. Even Jim looked worried.

I didn't see Leah yesterday but she looks really pale. It makes me very worried.

The second half of the game went by like lightning. Mason scored a couple times, the other team never had a chance.

"Good job man. You played great" I say after he talks to the coach.

"Thanks Brooks, wheres Leah?" He asks looking at the screen to see just Ellie and Christine.

"Bathroom" Ellie says and I nod.

"Good job Mason" Ellie smiles her gorgeous smile. I cant wait to see her again. I hate being away from her.

"Okay, I'm going to get changed. Text mom the orders. Love you guys" Mason says and hangs up.

"Hey Brooks, can I um, talk to you for a second?" Mason says, nervously.

"Yeah bro, you can always talk to me. Whats up?" I ask, confused.

"I told Leah that I love her" He mumbles and I look at him briefly, shocked.

"How did that happen?" I ask, completely in shock.

"She kept going on about how she was a charity case to me and my family and that was the only way I thought I could prove it" He says, sounding.

"Okay, thats great. Why do you sound and look so upset?" I ask, worry filling my body.

"I don't think she feels the same" He says, monotoned.

"What'd she say to it?" I say pulling into an empty parking lot.

"She said right now isn't the right time and to tell her again soon. But I feel like she was just saying that" Mason looks down at his hands.

"Mason, I see the way you two look at each other. It will happen. She's probably just scared. I mean, the amount of people who have hurt her is bound to make her scared to lose anyone else. You treat her like an actual person, she hasn't had that in a while bro. Give her time. Okay man?" I say and he nods.

"Yeah, I know. I just really fücking love her. Like a lot. I'm pretty sure I'm in love with her. Like whenever I see her I get butterflies. I always knows when she's around, I can just feel it. When she kisses me on the cheek, it always lingers. I-I've never had this feeling before" He says and a huge smile spreads across my face.

"Oh Mason, you're so whipped" I shake my head, pulling out of the parking lot and speeding towards the hospital.
