《He Saved Me》Chapter twenty four

"Leah, you should probably eat" Mason says, looking at my untouched food. It's been sitting there for about an hour now.

"I'm not hungry Mas" I say shaking my head. That was a mistake.

A sharp pain runs from behind my eyes to the back of my head, causing me to place my pounding head in my hands. Hoping to ease the pain.

"Leah? Are you okay? Should I get a doctor?" Mason says, worry filling his voice.

"No, no, I'm fine. My head is just pounding?" I say slowly lifting it up, my eyes still closed.

Mason grabs my hand, tighter than before.

My phone beeps and I open my eyes.

"Mason, can you read that for me?" I ask and he nods, picking up my phone.

"It's Grace. She wants to know if you can face time" Mason says and I nod.

"Yeah, call her and you can talk to her. I have to use the restroom" I say, trying to sit up.

I hiss, the pain unbearable and causing me to get lightheaded.

"Hold on, let me help you. I should probably call a nurse for this" He says.

At that time a nurse comes in.

"Oh sweetie, what's the matter? Do you need help getting somewhere?" She asks.

"Um, I just need to use the restroom but I think I can get there myself" I say and she shakes her head.

"No, you need help. You are in very bad condition. Young man, can you please help me?" She says and Mason nods, running over to me.

They slowly help me to the bathroom and Mason tells her, he can help me back to the bed after.

"Give Grace a call. You know my password" I say and he nods, opening my phone.

"Mason? Hey. Where's Leah? And where are you?" The phone says as I open the bathroom door.

"Hold on one second Grace" He says and he places the phone down and helps me back into bed.

"Thanks Mas. I'm here Grace" I say picking up the phone.

Graces eyes practically fall out of her head at the sight of me. Her mouth, gaping at me in fear.

"Leah, what the fück happened to you?" She says, tears welling up.

"Something upset me so I ran a red light and here I am" I say, my breathing short.

"Leah, you cant do that. If something upsets you, you should talk to someone about it. Don't run away, or in this case, drive away from your problems" She says and I nod, knowingly.

"Yeah, I know. I was being stupid" I say.

"Yes, well I will text you later. You need some rest. Goodnight Leah. Feel better and keep me updated" She says and she hangs up.

"Le, I'm gonna go to sleep now. Wake me if you need anything" He says and I smile, nodding.

It's been an hour and I can't sleep no matter how hard I try. Mason must have brought me headphones because theres a pair sitting on the table next to me. I quietly grab them. I might as well watch some of The Vampire Diaries.

Halfway through the second episode I get bored.

My headache is gone but the pain in my side is worse than it was before. This might not work too well.

I keep my bed up, not wanting to wake Mason up, since his head is laying on the bed. He must be so uncomfortable.

Just think of something that made you happy Leah. It will take your mind away from the pain and you will be able to sleep

I slowly close my eyes, concentrating on memories from when I was younger, playing with Ellie and Mason at the park.

After a couple of minutes I drift off into a peaceful sleep. Or so I thought

"No, no. Get away from me. Please, I'll do anything" Leah's panicked voice wakes me up from my slumber.

"I'll leave, I'll find somewhere else to stay. Just please, don't hurt me" She says shakily, tears streaming down her face.

Does this happen every night?

"Leah, wake up. It's me, its Mason" I say touching her shoulder.

She flinches at the sudden contact as her tears start flowing even faster than before.

What do I do? I don't know what the fück to do.

3 A.M. my mom's definitely asleep.

I sit down next to Leah on the bed, running my hands through her hair softly.

"Leah, you're okay" I whisper.

"No, don't do this. Please, Don't" She says shooting up, hiccuping.

"M-Mason" She sobs, hugging me tightly.

"It's okay Le, I'm here. You're okay, it was just a dream. I won't let anyone hurt you" I say letting her cry on my shoulder.

"It-It all felt so real" She shakily says.

"I know, I know it did" I say, her hair passing through my fingers like silk.

"But look at me, Le. Look at me" I say. She pulls away, her glossy blue eyes staring right into my blue eyes.

"I won't let them hurt you Leah. I promise. If it was up to me, I wouldn't even let them near you" I say, a couple tears falling out of her eyes.

"I'm scared Mason" She whispers, attempting to move over, giving me room to lay down next to her.

"No, Le stay there. Don't hurt yourself. Why are you scared?" I grab her hand.

"What if one day-" She says stopping mid sentence.

"What if one day what?" I urge her to continue.

"I-I can't say it Mas. Just thinking about it makes me scared" She says, her chest rising and falling rapidly.

"Leah, hey. Look at me. Deep breaths, tell me right now. What can you see thats in this room" I say noticing the signs of the anxiety attack thats coming on.

"T-There's a table. And your phone is right there, a box of tissues-" She says, her breathing getting shorter.

"Leah, look at me. Stare into my eyes. Okay? What do they remind you of?" I say staring at her.

"They are blue like the ocean. It makes me think of a beautiful, hot summers day. The beach, one of my favorite places to go. The gold reminds me of the stars on a perfect, clear night" She says, her breathing slowing down.

"Okay, yeah good. Now, this photo, what about this photo" I say unlocking my phone, to show the picture of Leah and I at Christmas.

"That was one of the best Christmas' of my life. Everyone was so inviting. You and your family are the most generous people I have ever met. I couldn't be happier to know you guys" She says smiling, perfectly fine now.

"Thank you Mason, that actually really helped" She says kissing my cheek.

"Yeah, I almost had to go to plan C" I say laughing.

"What's that?" She says, confusion over her whole face.

"We'll save that for another time" I say winking.

She gives me a look at then moves her body over a little more, hissing at the pain.

"Leah, Leah. What are you doing? Stop hurting yourself. Stay still" I say grabbing her arm.

"You need sleep and this bed isn't very comfortable but its definitely better than that chair" She says, causing me to shake my head.

"Love, stop moving. I'm fine. I won't go to be until you do. I need to make sure you're okay. The chair is perfectly comfortable for me" I say, sitting back in the chair.

"I don't think I'll be going back to sleep tonight. I'll probably take a nap tomorrow. But, you need to go to sleep. How about you take the bed and I take the chair?" She says stubbornly.

"You need rest Leah. Doctors orders. Please, I promise that no one can hurt you when I'm here" I say grabbing her hand and she nods.

"I'll hold your hand, close your eyes" I whisper, grabbing the phone out of her hands and placing it on the table.

I put the bed down, so she's more comfortable and she slowly starts to drift into a deep sleep. But not before saying whispering some barely audible. But luckily, I caught it.

'Thank you'
