《The Reject (On Hold)》Chapter 22

If werewolf have a moon goddess then witch and warlock have a goddess of themselves. Hecate.
Hecate is known to be the goddess of many things but she is well-known to be the goddess of witchcraft.
Witches and warlocks around the world worship and devote their life to her in exchange for power.
Some believers have testified that they come into contact with the goddess herself.
No one knows how does the goddess contact her subjects beside the witches and warlocks themselves.
In this universe, there's nothing free and everything has a price.
In exchange for personal information or any normal information, you must give up some of your own personal things to be sacrifice.
The power that Eona borrows from the goddess herself must be paid.
I knew the risk when I came to Eona's place. This is the price that I must pay.
And yet, I still feel heaviness in my chest as if someone was preventing me to do it.
Was it the moon goddess herself? Or is it all in my thought?
I keep looking back at my clutched hand, debating whether I should continue or just gorget about all of this and pretend that it's only a dream.
I can feel Eona's gaze on me and I know that she's giving me time to re-think my decision.
"My mate bond." I start to speak with a hush voice.
"What?"
"I said my mate bond." This time with a louder voice.
"Edith! Are you out of your mind? If you severe your mate bond you will never have a mate! Please re-think about this decision!"
"I can't possibly sacrifice my life span do I? Beside my mates rejected me and mate with another she wolf."
"Who is it?"
I keep silent and just bow my head down. Tears threaten to fall.
"I said who is it? I can see that they no longer need their eyes anymore, I'll help them to remove it for you."
"Eona no, please! I've moved on! It's done! Please can we just forget about it."
She take a look at how shaken I am. She give me her nod and put on a neutral face. But I know, she's furious inside.
"We will perform the ritual tonight at 12 AM during the witching hour. I will be at my strongest and I want to make sure the sacrifice you make is worth the result."

After that small incident, Eona took me back upstairs and we decide to cook dinner.
I miss the time that I spend with her during our time at the castle. We would do almost everything together alongside Carol.
At the end of the night we would do a sleepover. We take turns on whose room we're sleeping at but mostly we use my room since I have the biggest room.
After dinner, we chat with each other trying to catch up with each other.
She notice my bracelet that was given by Krystal and I explain to her that it was a gift from a Luna whose pack I visited.
It's almost time for us to perform the rituals but I can feel my eyes starting to get heavy, Eona offered to make me coffee and head straight to her kitchen.
The moment I came in this room, I felt drawn towards the books that sits in her shelf. I decide to take a look at it as an effort to remove my sleepiness.
I pick a random book and took it out from its shelf. Its cover was made from animals leather and it had a black colour.
Some floral patterns decorate the book and it looks heavy for its size.
I rub the surface trying to feel the cover and I accidentally prick my finger and blood suddenly came out from it.
"Ouch!"
I retract my finger and put it in my mouth trying to ease the pain. I try to check the surface and see what object could have prick me.
There was nothing, how weird. I take the book with me and sit myself back at the couch.
Opening the first page on the book and I can see some introduction, I read a few sentences and come to a conclusion that it contain spells for beginners.
I continue to jump from page to page and trying to see what kind of spells does this book have. The book contain diagrams, spells, algorithm in language that I don't understand.
Then I stop at a page, it looks like a guide on how to produce light.
"How handy." I mutter.
Werewolf have a great eye sight and can still see in the dark. But we have our limits and if it's pitch dark, we wouldn't be able to see anything.
I put my attention back to the book and below the illustration, there's a sentence. Feeling curious, I try to spell each words correctly.

It's definitely hard and I got my tongue twist several times just trying to pronounce it clearly.
After practicing a few times, I'm finally able to pronounce it clearly without having the need to stutter.
I try to pronounce the sentence one last time before deciding to move on to the next page.
All of a sudden, my hand that's located below the book glow brightly. I panic and put the book at the coffee table in front of me.
"Eona.." I use my normal voice to call for her.
"What?" I can hear her scream from the kitchen.
"Eona!!" I start to scream slightly louder.
"WHAT!" She reply with even louder tone.
"Come quick! I don't know what to do!"
I can hear her footstep back heading towards her living room.
"What the hell have you done now Edith! I swear if..."
She stop on her sentence and is just as shocked as I am. She freeze and stand near the entrance of her living room.
"Eona, what should I do!"
She snapped back to reality and with a calm voice she instruct on what I should do.
"Ok now close your eyes and picture the light slowly dimmed."
I close my eyes and began to use my imagination. When I open my eyes, the light from my hand had gone.
"What was that? What's happening and what did you do? How are you able to use magic?" Eona asked.
"I'm not sure myself, I just took that book while I was bored and try to read a sentence from it."
Questions start to run in my head on how am I able to use magic. Werewolf isn't able to use magic but how come that I am able to produce that light earlier.
"Could it be the bracelet?"
"No impossible, that's only a mere protection bracelet not one that could make people use magic."
"So there are items that could allow other creatures besides witches and warlocks to use magic?"
"Yes but werewolves can't use it. Ok back to the point, tell me everything that just happened."
I start to explain to her about pricking my finger and there are no odd things that could explain on what's going on.
The time for witching hour have arrived and we decide to put that problem aside and continue to proceed to the basement.
Eona ask me to stand at the edge of the room while she draw circles and pentagrams around the room.
Then she proceed to lit several candles that are place around the room. The candle represent each elements.
Fire for the flame, air to feed it, melted wax for water, and solid wax for earth.
These candles play an important role in order to raise the kind of energy that will be used in our rituals.
She ask me to walk myself at the centre of a circle and she ask for both of my hands to hold.
I carefully step my way in without stomping on any diagrams or symbols that she made and hold her hands.
"It's time." She mention.
"What I need you to do is to close your eyes. Don't ever open them in any circumstances. While you close your eyes, I want you to imagine the name Nereus."
"Try to focus on what he looks like from the description that Miles give."
I nodded. I can feel some sort of fabric in between our hand. It must be Miles's piece of clothing that I gave her.
"So here's what we're going to do. First, the goddess would like us to offer your sacrifice. We need to severe the mate bond of yours."
"Next we will jog into Miles's memory. We'll try to find if this Nereus guy do exist. When we know what he look like, we'll find his location and try to enter his mind."
I nodded and continue to listen to her instructions carefully.
"It's going to be hard trying to enter his mind and there're no guarantee that we'll be successful. It all depends on the individual themselves."
"If he's strong willed, it'll make us harder to invade his mind." Eona ended her explanation.
"Ok are there anything more that I should know?"
"None. We're going to start now. Remember, don't ever open your eyes."
I close my eyes and I can feel her hand tighten around me. She start to read spells in language that's foreign to me.
After around five minutes, I feel something tight and heavy around my chest. It become hard to breath and I start to take long breath.
I wanted to ask Eona what's causing me these but I can still hear her continuous chanting. I stay silent not wanting to cut her.
A moment later, it started to get worst. I start to cough blood and I can feel something inside of me snapped.
