Jimmy stayed with me as he continued to help me scrub my body clean. I needed his help to get my large body up onto my feet. When I looked down I saw the brown murky water that was mixed with blood and dirt. Jimmy grabbed a towel and wrapped me up in it. He gave me a kiss on the cheek and walked out into our bedroom.
I grabbed the brush off of the counter and began to run it through my hair. I looked into the mirror and was shocked to see how natural I looked. I had just murdered somebody and no one would be able to tell. Only the ends of my hair were wet and I attempted to braid it. I quickly gave up and just tied it back loosely.
“Julie,” I heard Jimmy call from our bedroom.
I walked out to see him pulling a dress for me out of one of the drawers. He handed it to me and I took off the towel. He pulled the towel out of my hands and went to the bathroom quickly. He was back by the time I had pulled the light green dress over my head.
He wrapped his arms around my back and tried to bring me as close as he could to his body. My belly caused an awkward space between us, but I reached out to wrap my arms his waist. He pressed his lips against the top of my head.
“I love you,” he whispered to me.
“I love you more,” I told him.

“That’s not possible,” he said. “I’m so proud of you.”
I couldn’t help but let my lips curl into a smile. It’s been months since Jimmy had said anything nice to me. I was the one who screwed up and cooked Tommy the rest of the meat, but now I got them a whole new body. They already dragged another body into the basement, but I got them the girl too. If I hadn’t killed her she would have ran away.
Jimmy leaned down and kissed the top of my head again. He gave me one last squeeze before he let go of me completely. I had to convince myself to let go of him.
“We should go downstairs,” he told me.
“Okay,” I said nodding my head.
He laced his fingers through mine and we walked down into the kitchen. Charles was leaning over his sink and was furiously washing his hands. I saw him scrubbing his hands with a white bar of soap that had turned light pink.
“Tommy is finishing up downstairs,” he told Jimmy. He looked over his shoulder at both of us. “My hip is bothering me. Go downstairs and help him, James.”
“I will,” Jimmy said nodding his head.
He snaked his arm around my back and helped me sit down in one of the kitchen chairs. My lips were still curled into a smile. Jimmy hasn’t been this cautious with me since I first discovered that I was pregnant. He gave me a quick kiss before running down the basement stairs.
I rubbed my stomach as I watched Charles as he continued to wash his hands. The large pool of blood was staining the floor. I was expecting Charles to turn around and start barking at me to clean up the floor. Instead, he turned off the tap and shook his hands before drying them off on a towel.

He turned around, stepped over the pool of blood, and pulled out one of the chairs. He sat down across from me and cracked his knuckles.
“My, my, my, Juliet,” he said quietly shaking his head. “When I brought you into this house I never expected you to be killing someone. Don’t get me wrong, you were quite a fighter when I found you in that perverted club.”
“I’m sorry,” I said quietly. I lowered my eyes down onto my belly as I cradled it. I could feel Charles staring at me intensely and I didn’t want to look up.
“You should be,” Charles scolded me. “Juliet, you put yourself in so much danger. Not only you, but your baby too. Women have a specific role in our family and the men have a job to do too. One of a man’s job is to do the hunting; women don’t do it. It’s like Jimmy doing all of the cooking or cleaning or even carrying your child, it’s not right. Do you understand?”
“Yes I do,” I said quietly. “I’ll never do it again.”
“Good,” he said.
I took a quick glance up to see that he had his fingers tented up into front of his face. I swallowed hard and tried to keep my head up. I was surprised that Charles wasn’t going to get Jimmy to punish me. Maybe just giving me a warning was enough. I sure hoped it was.
“Don’t worry, Juliet. You won’t be punished,” he told me as his lips lifted up into a faint smile. My jaw hung open when he said that and it caused his lips to curl even more. “Marilyn used to get the same look. I would talk to her and she would panic that she’d get punished.”
“I’m sorry,” I said.
“Don’t be,” he said shaking his head. “I like having you here, Juliet. You remind me of her a lot. It’s only a few months after you give birth that I go and get a girl for Tommy. How do you feel about that?”
I shuddered at the thought of Tommy having a girl. I remember the way he has touched me in the past and I would never want a girl to have to deal with that for the rest of her life. It would probably distract him from me and he’d probably stop looking at me with that stupid smirk. It would be nice to be able to split up the chores too.
“I guess it would be nice to have some company,” I said.
“Jimmy doesn’t keep you company?” Charles asked raising an eyebrow.
“No,” I gasped. “It’s just that it would be nice to have someone here while all the men are outside. Like another girl to talk to. It’s why I like talking to Emme and Lindsey.”
“Well, Emme will be down in a few days, so you’ll have someone to talk to soon,” he informed me.
“That’ll be nice,” I said keeping a large smile on my face.
“And then you’ll have company all the time when Tommy’s girl come here. She’ll be scared at first, but she’ll warm up in no time and you’ll help with that.”
I nodded my head and kept the smile on my lips.
That poor girl…
