I gasped but my breath got caught in my throat. I wanted to jump away from him, but I could feel the sharp edge of his blade up against my neck. Tommy saw the terrified expression on my face and let a faint chuckle escape my lips.
“Tommy,” my voice cracked. “Don’t.”
It was all I could manage to say. My throat was dry and every time I spoke I could feel his knife pushing itself farther into my neck. Tommy’s lips curl into a wider smirk.
“Don’t do what, Jules?” he asked me wryly. “You think I’m going to hurt you?”
I was going to nod my head, but I knew it wasn’t a good idea. I opened up my mouth to answer, but my eyes watered and my nose burned from the tears. I didn’t want to cry in front of him. It was exactly what he wanted.
“I wouldn’t kill you, Jules,” he told me. “You’re too fun to have around. I couldn’t do it.”
He slowly slid the blade down my neck so that it was lightly tracing over my skin. The cold metal caused a shiver to run up my spine as he ran it down over my collar bone and down to my chest.
I wanted to get up and run away, but there was nowhere I could go. I didn’t have a key to the doors. My lock on the bathroom door was broken that night I threatened to kill myself. Now I was stuck lying on the bed as Tommy tormented me.
“I don’t think it’s fair though,” he continued. “That he gets you all to himself. Jimmy’s barely a man, yet he got you pregnant. Doesn’t make much sense, does it?”
He continued to run the blade down my chest until it was on my stomach. Just inches above my bellybutton he had the end of his knife pointed right into my stomach. I couldn’t help myself from letting out a whimper.
Tommy was psychotic. He would have no problem killing my baby.
“No,” Tommy said shaking his head. “I can’t do it this way. I’m not scared of Jimmy, but Dad would be mad at me. It’s not worth getting beat just to get rid of your baby.”

He pulled the blade off of my stomach and threw his legs over the side of the bed. I watched him as he got up and walked to the other side. I sat up so that I could see him no matter where he went. He was heading straight for the door and I let out a sigh of relief. I was terrified about him coming into my room, but it turned out to not be that bad.
Tommy spun around on his heels and stalked back into the room. He was shaking his head and started chuckling to himself.
“Who am I kidding?” he said laughing. “I can’t just let Jimmy get all of this. He can’t have you and then get a son. It’s just not fair.”
My fingers curled into the mattress as he got closer to me. My heartbeat was growing quicker and I felt myself start to tremble. Tommy put his knee on the bed and leaned forward so that he was towering over me.
“He just can’t know it’s me,” Tommy said slowly and quietly. His light brown eyes had grown cold and dead. He had his face so close to mine that I could see the freckles and pockets of blackheads that covered his nose. I couldn’t help but close my eyes. “You wouldn’t tell them it was me, would you, Jules?”
“Tommy, please,” I whimpered.
“Would you?” he asked again.
“Tommy,” I sobbed.
“Would you!” he barked out slamming his hand into the bedframe, only inches from my head.
I jumped and let out a quick scream. The tears started to run down my cheeks and when I looked up I could see Tommy in a blur. His face was growing red and his nostrils were flaring.
“No,” I sobbed. “No I wouldn’t.”
“Good girl,” I heard him say his hand cupped the side of my face. “You’ll be mine soon.”
I shook my head in denial. He slid his hand back to the back of my neck and grabbed a fistful of my hair and tilted my head up.
“Yes you will be,” he snapped. “Jimmy doesn’t deserve you, but I do.”
He leaned down and smash his lips against mine. I couldn’t help myself from putting my hands on his chest and trying to push him away. He kissed me harder. I tried turning my head to the side, but he had it held in place. I didn’t want to stop struggling though.

When he pulled away from me, I wiped my eyes and mouth with the back of my hand. Tommy still had a fistful of my hair and he pulled on it when he saw me do that. I let out a yelp. He brought his other arm to my stomach and began rubbing my stomach.
“Now, we just need to fix Junior there,” he told me.
He took his hand off of my stomach and grabbed my wrist. He got off of the bed and heaved me up with him.
“No!” I yelled out. “Please, Tommy. Please don’t do this.”
“Come on, Jules,” he told me. “I promise it’ll be quick.”
I pulled my arms back and fought against his grip. I dug my heels into the ground so that he had to struggle to drag me. He let out a deep breath and let go of my wrist and quickly wrapped his arm around my waist and lifted me up over his shoulder.
I screamed as I started to pound my fists into his back. I was kicking my legs furiously, but Tommy walked away with me unaffected. I watched the ground bob up and down as he walked out with me into the hallway. The faded wooden floors were all I could see and then I saw the sudden dip of the staircase.
“No!” I screamed out. My heart was slamming itself into my ribcage. “Tommy, you can’t!”
He set me down on the ground. I looked up to see him towering over me. I could see the wall to the hallway and I knew that the staircase was right behind me.
“Jules, they’re all going to think it’s an accident,” he told me. “Because if you tell them what really happens they won’t believe you. If you do I’ll just make sure we have more time to have fun together.”
“Tommy,” I sobbed.
I brought my knees up to my chest and wrapped my arms around my legs. If he was going to push me down the stairs this was the best chance I had to protecting my son.
“Now, I’m not completely sure how to do this,” he warned me. “We may have to do this a few times just to make sure it works. I don’t want to kill you though. That would hurt Jimmy, but I want you to stick around for a while.”
He grabbed my wrists and pulled them away from my legs. He must have known I was trying to protect myself. He got onto his knees and he had me leaning over the first step.
“Now, we just need to get rid of Jimmy’s son,” he said as he slowly started to push me back. I knew that he was only doing it slowly just to watch the terror on my face.
“Wait, Tommy!” I yelled out. “What if it’s not a boy?”
He stopped pushing me back and quickly, with one swift motion, pulled me back up so I was sitting.
“Why would that matter?” he asked me.
“Because think about how much it’ll hurt, Jimmy,” I explained. “If I have a daughter and you kill her now then Jimmy won’t have to once I give birth. You’re making it easier on him.”
Tommy stared coldly into my eyes and his lips curled into a vicious smile. I thought back to when I used to always play the sympathy card with Jimmy. I needed to do the same right now to save both my life and my child’s.
I took in a deep breath to stop all of the tears and let my lips lift into a smile. Tommy leaned in and kissed me hard. I just waited it out until he was finished.
“You’re right,” he told me. “He’s so weak. It would destroy him.”
“Exactly,” I agreed. “And we both know that Jimmy’s not man enough to give me a son.”
Tommy let out a laugh and I forced myself to do the same. Tommy got up off of his knees and stretched his arms up over his head. I scrambled up onto my feet and I knew that Tommy was still staring at me intensely.
“I’m glad you know that,” Tommy said. “I can’t wait until I find a way to make you my own girl.”
