《She's their life》Chapter 23

Heart attack by Demi Lovato.

"AND I BURST INTO FLAMEEeee.." My voice breaks out when I reach the climax high note. I stop and sigh.

It's my 5th time trying it. The band is right now practicing for the compition. Everyone is coming, every band's family, other students, apparently it's like a fest, so it's for everyone to enjoy, which is tomorrow.

The members suggested any Italian song, but as I don't know Italian that much we settled for an English song, Heart attack. Why this song?

I used to listen to this song, whenever I felt anger, anguish toward families living a happy life, having love with them. This song is very close to my heart and it will be my closure, from past, from my old self and from that Mona who craved for love.

I and Monday have decided to divide the lines and harmonize someone between but as we reach the high note, I stumble onto it.

High notes are not my best strength.

"Mona, try to use your stomach voice." Lin says.

I tilt my head in confusion.

"How many voices do we have?" I ask.

"We'll, it's a saying, try to make sound like it's coming from stomach." He again says.

"How?" I again ask.

Hello, stomach please bring your inner voice to my throat.

He sighs, "Ok, just try harder. This note is the most important part of the song, of this goes wrong, the whole song will. But it's ok, take a break, maybe drink luke warm water, it'll be fine." He says.

And I suddenly start to feel sad.

I can't do this one thing.

Feeling it, Monday says, "Hey baby, it's ok, we're with you, take your time, we'll do this together." He says squeezing my hand.

I smile and nod. A little talk can help so much.

I move outside toward the kitchen.

Right, harleys in Hawaii

Snap out of it.

I know..I know.. I'm not having much dialogues or any kind of talking with Mona.

I guess my introvert side is coming out.

But what can I do? When they took her away, it was like my world crashed like a car, like I steeped on a banana peel and I slipped right on my ass. The pain was unbearable, like my nail got stuck on the corner of the bed.

Man, there was lot of bleeding and crying.

Anyways, I just want to spend time with my chicorita. And I will. NO ONE WILL STOP ME.

It's my turn anyway.

There was no bound to my happiness when she came back. She's so perfect. Funny, innocent, mature and very much loving her Mr.Penis.

I roll my eyes at that thought. But if it makes her happy, we can do anything for her happiness, except for bringing a real penis. That..will go to her from my dead body or better my sprit will haunt that real penis forever.

Anyways, she's too young for it.

Thinking about it, I hear some footsteps, glancing up I see Mona coming toward me (kitchen).

I grin.

Let's start the mission then.

"Hey, my chocopie, whatcha doing?" I ask in my broken English.

I'm really not good in speaking English. Just bits and pieces.

"Nothing, Cally, Just regretting my decisions." She says taking water in a glass and then pouring it into a pot..to heat it.

"Why?, Is something wrong?" I ask.

"I may or may not be able to not pull off the song we chose right, I shouldn't have taken participation for the competition only, because of me they whole group will go down." She says. Her face becoming a bit pinkish.

"Heyyy!!" I say, going toward her and caressing my knuckles on her cheek, pulling her close to me.

She smells like a baby.

We'll, she is a baby.

My baby.

"Baby, don't say it like this, just have a little confidence in yourself, believe in yourself. Remember you're not weak, you are Mona, who is loved by a whole population. It's ok to go weak, but after falling you have to rise, it's ok if you're not getting the song note right, no will judge you, it's your first time and everyone makes mistakes in their first attempt, it's not like everyone is Caleb Amelio to have perfection in everything." I say last line with a grin, which receives a chuckle from my baby.

"You are so full of yourself, you know that, right?" She says, putting her hands on my waist.

"We'll, you will never get this handsome brother, ever" I say winking.

What? it's true. God, made me with lot of peace and beauty.

"Thank you." She says softly.

And I can't help but kiss her forehead.

"Me too, Bambina, now come on, help me I making something" I say.

"What?" She says while getting the water from the pot.

"I'm making, spicy, sun-dried tomato pasta with siitake bacon." I say.

And her eyes widens with surprise.

"I love spicy!" She says.

I smile.

"Now, let's make it, shall we?" I ask and she nods.

We both starts to wear our aprons and then suddenly she goes,

"Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Caleb and Mona cooking show I'm Mona and he's Caleb, now we'll show you, how to make spicy pasta with bacon." She says to no one.

I start to laugh remembering that I used to do that same thing, when I was a kid.

"Yes, let's start." I say, playing along.

"For, pasta" She begins looking around the ingredients.

"•1 tablespoon olive oil

•1 small onion, chopped (about 1/2 cup)

•4 carrots, peeled, diced

•1 cup vegetable broth

•1 1/2 tablespoons tomato paste

•3 garlic cloves, minced (about 1 tablespoon)

•2 28-ounce cans of fire-roasted diced tomatoes

•4 servings of cooked pasta of choice (gluten-free, grain-free, etc...)

•2 chilis in adobo sauce, chopped

•1 tablespoon adobo sauce

•3/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes

•2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped

1 bay leaf

•4 sun-dried tomatoes

•1/2 cup almond milk

•1/3 cup flour of choice

•1 cup cashews

•1 tablespoon nutritional yeast

•2 cups shredded kale

•1/4 cup chopped fresh basil for garnish" She takes a deep breath after finishing and taking my help in between when she didn't knew the name of the ingredient.

She then looks at me with stars in her eyes.

Things I can do for this kid.

"For bacon,

•1 8-ounce package Shiitake mushrooms, sliced

•1 tablespoon tamari

•1 tablespoon liquid smoke

•2 tablespoons coconut oil

•1 tablespoon vegan Worcestershire sauce

•1 teaspoon red pepper flakes." I finish.

She giggles and my heart flutters. I will do anything for these smiles.

After telling her the process, Mona starts to chop mushrooms, coating it with all the ingredients and then baking it at 250° f for 30 minutes.

While I start to heat the pan, adding oil and after a while adding onion, Garlic and carrots ,stirring it for 7-10 minutes.

I and Mona start talking, she tells me about her likes and dislikes, while I tell her about myself and my 'work'. After all giggling and laughing, I then add tomato paste in it, cooking it till it caramelize.

Then I ask Mona to soak cashews in hot water for 5 minutes, drain water, and then set it aside. After that I tell her to blend Purée sauce after adding the pre-soaked cashews and nutritional yeast, then adding puree again, and put back into saucepan then return to simmer.

While I sprinkle the flour in while continuously stirring and cook for an additional 3 minutes. Add crushed tomatoes, broth, sun-dried tomatoes, basil, red pepper, and bring to a boil, then cover and reduce to a simmer for 10 minutes. Then allow the flavors to combine by simmering for 25-30 minutes.

Mona takes a little flour in her hand and throwing it at me, laughing.

I flinch at first.

Oh, the baby is been naughty now.

I take some flour in my hand and then throwing it at her.

She gives a small shout but then laughs, we play like this for a while. Then I stopped her because I don't want to hear my mother nagging, she will say nothing to Mona but she'll kill me.

After a while, I grab the plate and for garnish I toss the pasta in the sauce and shredded kale, and top with sun-dried tomatoes and Shiitake bacon. Garnish with basil.

"And that's how ladies and Men we made this wish, see you next time till then bye." Mona says. I grin.

My stomach the grumbles at the right moment.

"Looks like someone is hungry?" She asks. Her cheerful and happy self being back.

"Starving." I say. And then we both dig into our food.

"Hmm, it's so yummy." She moans.

"The food we've made tastes more delicious, because we have worked hard for it." I say.

"I know what you are trying to say, cooking is something I'm confident about that's why I did my best without even realising." She says, eating more.

"Correct, you're singing for yourself, darling, not for the band, not for me and not for a stranger, so do as you wish. We're here with you and if you want more time, we'll always support you." I say smiling.

"By the way, you're a great cook." She says grinning.

"Handsome cook, you say." I say flipping my hair.

She laughs.

And I'm happy seeing her like this.

Nervousness and excitement is all I'm feeling, my stomach is churning at every moment.

This is it.

Today is the day when I'm singing my heart out. It's so exciting yet nerve wrecking.

I'm standing at the backstage with my hands on my stomach, goosebumps occuring time to time, my nervousness increasing.

Maybe I should back away!

But it's too late now.

I can say that I'm sick or maybe my fish died by drowning?

Stupid!

Ahhhhh! What can I do?

How can you be so beautiful and handsome?

You've no right to be this handsome.

I'm sitting in one of a seat checking myself on my phone camera.

Wow, look at those eyes, that jawline, it can slice anyone, and my nose, goood! Lord made my nose with peace.

Not being able to control myself I kiss the camera (me). Giving myself a sloppy kiss.

"Caleb stop making out with the camera." Anthony says in Italian, who is sitting beside me.

I look at him, still kissing my camera.

"What? Let me look at myself in peace." I say to him.

He rolls his eyes and then says,

"You do that everytime, now let's go to the band, backstage maybe they're nervous." He says.

Then I recall my and Mona's conversation, so I nod immediately.

Sometimes a person just needs a little push to move forward.

As I was walking, I look at my whole family sitting, I swear they've taken the half of the room. God bless to those who will stand.

The adjustment is like this, there are two floors, the first floor is the searing area of parents, where they can see the stage. The ground floor is for the students, where they'll stand and enjoy the concert. The room is big enough for 50,000 people to fit in.

As we reach the backstage, we saw the boys talking to themselves.

"Where's Mona?" Anthony asks.

"She went out for fresh air." Monday says glancing at me.

I understood what he wanted to say.

"I got this." I say to Anthony and left to look for Mona.

I somehow felt her, before seeing her. She was standing nervously. People around her in a hurry to start the show.

She was wearing a costume which resembled the costume from the music video of heart attack.

Black jacket with black boots and shirt, her hair styled in a pony tail. Infact, every member was wearing black.

I put my arm over her shoulder. She flinches but then relaxes seeing me.

"Still nervous?" I ask in my broken English.

I should have studied English more. Not that, I scored 3/100 in my schooling. I'm not that bad.

"Maybe I should just backo--" i cut her off.

"There is no, back out Mona. You've started this, so finish this. I don't want you to regret for the rest of your life, give your best, believe yourself. You're Mona Amelio, I know you can do this. You're my sister, you never quit. We're right behind you baby, you got this." I end, kissing her forehead.

Good it's feels good to have her here.

"Thank you. I'll do my best." She says.

"Ladies and Gentlemen I would request you to turn off your phone's and move back to your seats the show will start soon." The announcement says.

I smile at Mona.

"I'll be always by your side, no matter what." I say and then walk away.

I know she'll do the best.

As the show starts, the 1st group came up and sang La crisi, which hyped up the ground floor audience and they started bouncing along.

'Wow, home run in 1st ball' Mona thinks as she watches the performance.

She notes everything about them, they way they move their body while singing, moving their head up and down aggressively as the guitar strings.

Then she glances at the audience, who have their hands up, shouting, moving their hips.

Sweat courses through her body.

Will she be able to do it?

The families too enjoy the song, why not? They took a special leave from everything, no not from the Mafia, they have men to take care of it. But it's only fair for them to enjoy the show after a long week's work.

Although they rarely take breaks, but they did for their Children and for Mona. Assuring them that they're with them at every step.

As the band closes the song, the crowd roars and claps for them.

They did a good job.

As the groups keep coming, the crowd and the families got hyped up, with all the energy pumping in the air, the smell of sweat and power, The vibe was totally of dancing. It was like they were in a concert.

Groups sang songs like Litio, We'll rock you, after-hours and even beat it by Micheal Jackson, in the result they got the loudest roar from the audience which echoed.

But Mona's and the group's nervousness kept increasing, they will never tell her but yes, they were nervous too. But after a talk with Anthony they felt better.

You guys, know better than anyone else, we're mafias, no pain, no gain. You've seen blood, this small competition is nothing in front of it. I know you guys are best and you can do it.

To be honest they're just doing it for their sister. They just want her to be happy.

"Now, ladies and gentlemen please welcome a new formed group, who is powerful yet fresh. Please welcome, the Amelios." The host said welcoming them.

After the word 'Amelio' the crowd became quiet. You see, Amelios are very strong and their kids don't have a good reputation in the school.

The fathers clench their fists at the silence.

People should fear them. Their heart should beat fast at their names.

And maybe due to fear the crowd shouted a little for a new formed group.

But this pales Mona's face.

There is no going back, remember your time when you were alone, weak and full of craving for family.

All 5 proceed toward the stage, they were too nervous that they forget the group chant they had to do before going to stage but it's ok. As they sit down in front of their equipments, Mona glances at Monday, she nods and gives him a smile.

Monday smiles back and takes a deep breath to calm his nerves down. After all, they can feel each other.

Lin, taking a deep breath make the sound with his drumsticks.

Thump

Thump

Thump

(You can play the video now.)

Never put your love out on the line

Never said yes to the right guy

Never had trouble getting what you want

But when it comes to me, I'm never good enough.

Monday starts, his voice sweet yet a bit heavy, showing that when the puberty will hit him, it'll be like a truck. People were shocked by his voice and the song, they never expected them to sing such a difficult song.

The families started smiling and started to bob their head with the music. Liv was doing a good job with the drums. He was killing it. Afterall, he's a Amelio. Max and Sam were playing guitar and piano, and god! They were the experts in it, finally they were able to do it.

When I don't care, I can play 'em like a Ken doll

Won't wash my hair, then make 'em bounce like a basketball.

Mona starts, and swear to god, they were never so shocked before. Never known sister of Amelios was singing so good, they never expected this. Amelios had a very proud smile.

The crowd started to move with the music and started roaring, the energy was back and with double attack. This slowly vanished away the group's nervousness and they started to show their energy.

But you make me wanna act like a girl

Paint my nails and wear high heels.

Both Mona and Monday sing this verse together, which made it so good with their harmonizing.

Yes, you make me so nervous that I just can't hold your hand

You make me glow

But I cover up, won't let it show

So I'm putting my defenses up

'Cause I don't wanna fall in love

If I ever did that, I think I'd have a heart attack.

Both were harmonizing, making eye contact with each other. The twins were showing their power, twin power, power of love and power of telepathy.

I think I'd have a heart attack

I think I'd have a heart attack.

They were killing those high notes, the crowd started bouncing already shouting and hooting for them.

Never break a sweat for the other guys

When you come around, I get paralyzed

And every time I try to be myself

It comes out wrong like a cry for help.

Her voice was deep and the way she flicked her hair at 'never break the sweat', her family laughed at it.

'That's my girl'. The families were enjoying it so much, they were never this proud of their children.
