《Fire & Ice - A Draco Malfoy fanfiction》Chapter 28 - So that's what you were doing in here

She was beautifully out of place. Sometimes I believe she intended to be like the moon during the day.

- D.R.

I spent all of Saturday in the library. I wanted to get some reading done in preparation for the O.W.L's and I wanted to avoid Malfoy as much as possible, so that worked out quite nicely.

But at eight in the evening, a headache started developing and I knew it had been quite enough for today.

"Eleanor Selwyn? Can I ask you something?" I heard and turned around. The girl who had spoken to me on her first day stood in front of me.

"Scarlett Lympsham, I see that you've taken my advice into account", I smiled.

"Yes, I have", she beamed. "You remembered my name."

"Of course I did. Well, what's the matter?" I asked.

"Uhm ... Me and my friends heard rumours about Dumbledore leaving and Professor Umbridge taking his place. I was wondering if you know more about that."

"Oh", I frowned. "That's the first thing I'm hearing about the subject, but thank you for mentioning it. I'll look into it." Scarlett nodded and darted off. Umbridge headmistress? Please let it not be true. I sighed, grabbed my bag and made my way to the common room.

Tracey and Daphne had gathered on the couches in the common room, accompanied by Blaise and Malfoy.

"Oi, Lea, finally!" Tracey called out for me. I smiled shortly and sat down next to her.

"This first year just told me that there are rumours about Umbridge becoming headmistress, am I missing something?" I asked, putting my bag down.

"Oh yeah, Draco just told us.", Tracey grunted. "The Inquisitorial Squad managed to catch Potter's little rebel group. Dumbledore ordered Harry to create it apparently, so the Ministry released him from his position. Umbridge is taking over.

"Oh Merlin, that's going to be pleasant", I sighed, sinking into the soft material of the couch.

"Can't decide who'd be a worse headmaster to be honest", Daphne shrugged. I looked up, noticing Malfoy next to her, his arm draped around her shoulder. He'd got to be kidding.

"I'm going to lie down, got a headache", I mumbled and stood up. I was not in the mood for this. I made my way over to my dorm and decided to catch a quick shower before heading to bed. This was going to be the least exciting Saturday in history.

I didn't notice how tense my muscles were until the warm shower water ran over them. I took a couple of deep breaths and tried to relax them as much as possible. This whole Malfoy situation was doing my head in.

I grabbed my berry shampoo from the shelf and gently washed my hair. My mum always gave me bath products with scents like Cashmere and Mahogany, but there was no better smell than sweet winter berries, so I always bought some on Hogsmeade trips.

I dried myself off using some spells and slipped into a dark green pyjama set. It would be a read-a-book-with-a-candle kind of night.

I heard a knock on the door and sighed. I always locked the door when showering, just in case.

"Alohomora", I mumbled, opening the lock. But no one came in.

Another knock. I sighed and stood up, opening the door.

"What do you want?" I asked as I was surprised by the person on the other side of the door. What was Malfoy doing here?

"I need one of Daphne's jumpers", he said, leaning against the door. I consciously pulled the shirt of my pyjama set a little closer and frowned.

"Why?"

"Because she asked me to get one and I'm a gentleman", he sighed. I couldn't hold in a laugh when hearing those words. A gentleman ... right.

I went over to Daphne's wardrobe and grabbed her favourite jumper. She'd be over the moon if she thought Malfoy had picked her favourite one.

Why was he doing this anyway? He'd never acted so interested in Daphne before and she'd been obviously crushing on him for years. Why did he start acting like that one day after that damned kiss. I hated him.

"There you go, anything else?" I asked and threw him the piece of clothing. He caught it impossibly gracefully. Why was he like that?

"No", he said, leaving the room again and gently closing the door behind him.

"Why did you say yes?" I asked before the door closed completely. It was quiet for a while, and then the door opened again.

"Said yes to what?" he said.

"Yes to Daphne's request. You and I both know you're not into her", I said and crossed my arms defensively.

"And what makes you think that?" He raised his eyebrows. Was he going to play games with me?

"Because you-", I noticed the open door and stopped myself. I could not risk anyone hearing this. I walked past him and closed the door.

"Because you kissed me back", I said quietly, forcing myself to look at him. I had no idea what he was thinking. His face was a blank canvas.

"No, I didn't."

"Oh really, we're going to play that game again?" I rolled my eyes.

"You can deny it all you want, but you and I both know it's true!" I said and pricked my finger in his chest. I hadn't imagined it and I wasn't going to let him convince me that I did.

"No, I it's not", he said, slowly. And there was that damn scent again.

DRACO's POV

She stood close to me and I had to keep a straight face. I couldn't do this. I couldn't let her think that I liked her, that I kissed her back.

But the steam of the shower had covered the entire room in her scent and it was properly distracting.

"Yes, it is", she said. Her voice always had this low, quiet, demanding tone when she was frustrated and it was quite intimidating.

A strand of her hair was stuck to her face from her shower and the green pyjamas made her look so relaxed, so different. Why couldn't her looks match her personality? It'd be a lot easier if she was hideous.

"It meant nothing!" I growled. I had to end this. "Don't start thinking I like you all of a sudden. There's no one I hate quite as much as you."

"Then why did you kiss me back?!" she shouted, glancing over her shoulder, realising that she had to be careful.

"It was an impulse", I said, immediately cursing internally. I had to deny it, not come up with explanations. "You think that a kiss means so much. I can easily kiss people without feeling a goddamn thing. Stop looking into it."

"Oh please, don't act like you're the biggest playboy all of a sudden. It meant something."

"I'm sorry to break it to you, princess," I spat, "but I don't care about you. You just want to think that because you're in love with me."

"In love with you?" she gasped. "In- In love with you? Are you out of your goddamn mind? You mean absolutely nothing to me! You're an arse, you're not my type and there's not a single part of me that would ever even remotely be attracted to you."

"Really?" I chuckled, suddenly feeling much more confident in this secluded area.

"Not the tiniest bit?" I asked, lifting up her chin with my finger.

She looked at me with millions of emotions flashing through her eyes. I had never properly looked at her eyes before. They were hazel, a mix of a lot of different colours. They were green on the outside and brown on the inside, with little specks of gold in them.

"Not the tiniest bit", she growled, pushing away my hand. She was like an annoying pitbull, not giving up. Luckily, my height gave me the upperhand in the intimidation game.

"I don't believe you", I whispered, leaning forward so she had to back away until she hit the door. I placed my hands on either side of her so she had nowhere to go. I saw her reach for her wand, but it was on the bed, out of her reach.

"Well, it's true", she said, trying to stay confident, but I could see that her barrier was breaking down. Finally, I thought. I didn't manage to do that often. "I'm not attracted to you whatsoever."

"So," I whispered, "if I were to kiss you now, you would shove me away?" I could see that that question took her by surprise. Her eyes widened slightly.

I leaned in very slowly, keeping my eyes strained on hers. Her barrier was faltering. She was letting me.

Her short, soft breaths stroked my cheek as our noses touched just the slightest bit. My thumb traced her soft skin, and I could feel that she was leaning in too.

"Good thing I'm not going to", I said and pulled back. She was completely startled, not sure what to do or how to react. I didn't either, so I just pushed her aside, grabbed Daphne's jumper and walked out.

ELEANOR's POV

I simply couldn't process what had just happened. Draco had seduced me, only to then walk away. My heart was beating out of my chest and my breaths were shallow. What the bloody hell was that? And why had my brain just turned off?

I should have shoved him away; I should have given him the lecture of a lifetime, but I didn't. I didn't because I wanted him to kiss me.

What the hell was wrong with me?

I screamed into my pillow and pulled my legs up. He was terrible. This was an absolute disaster. I had just shown him that I was attracted to him and he just walked out. He had the audacity to humiliate me like that.

I could not let this get to me. I had to get him out of my head. But the scent of his cologne still hung around and it was impossible to ignore it.

I paced around the room, not sure what to do with myself.

It was just a physical attraction, nothing more. I could manage this.

And then the door swung open again. Before I could process what was happening, a pair of lips were on mine. I pulled away in surprise to be met by Draco's stormy grey ones. What the hell?

"Just shut up and kiss me", he said hoarsely, and I couldn't resist.

His lips found mine and his hands wrapped around my waist. I relaxed my body against his and kissed him back as if it was the most normal thing in the world.

I wrapped my arms around his neck and buried one hand in his hair. He grunted as I pulled it slightly, which made my insides go all fuzzy. This was so wrong.

He slightly tugged on my bottom lip, so I parted them just enough. His hand squeezed my waist as his lips left mine and traveled to the soft skin behind my ear. I tilted my head backward as his lips gently found his way down my neck.

"Lea!" Daphne yelled from outside the door.

I slammed my hand over my mouth to keep in the scream of surprise. Panic, panic was all I felt.

"Just a second!" I yelled, shoving Draco off me. "I'm uh- I'm changing!"

"Okay!" Daphne said. I looked around in panic and Draco didn't really seem at ease either. Daphne could not find him in here. I would never willingly be in a closed room alone with Malfoy. She could not know what was happening.

Under the bed, I mouthed, pushing him down. He wanted to protest, but I kept pushing him down until he gave up.

"Almost done!" I yelled, straightening my pyjamas and checking if he was not visible underneath the bed.

Very reluctantly, I opened the door.

"Hey, is everything okay?" I asked, trying to sound as relaxed as I could, but the nerves were coursing through my veins at impossible speed.

"Have you seen Draco?" she asked, pouting her lips slightly.

"D-Draco? No, I uh- I didn't see him." I had to get myself together.

"He told me he forgot his wand here when grabbing my jumper and that he went to get it, but he never came back." Oh for Merlin's sake.

"Oh, right, yes. He was here, just to grab his wand, but he didn't say much, so I don't know where he went", I said. Daphne let herself in and sat down on my bed, the bed Draco was under. I wanted to simply pass away.

"Why are you all red?" Daphne chuckled, noticing my flushed cheeks.

"Me? Oh I just got out of the shower. That must be it." I forced a smile on my face and felt my cheeks, which were bright hot.

"Yeah, I bet that was what you were doing in your bedroom, all alone. You're not fooling me, Selwyn", she grinned, wiggling her eyebrows. I could literally die of shame.

"Oh please, keep your perverted thoughts to yourself, Greengrass", I sputtered.

"Anyway, I'm going to see where Draco is. Tell me when you see him, okay?" she said and stood up.

"Yep, I will, but I doubt he'll come in here when it's just me", I laughed nervously.

"I suppose", Daphne shrugged. "Good night!"

I smiled one last time and then let out a deep sigh as the door locked again. This was absolute madness.

"So that's what you were doing in here", Draco said and pushed my hair to one side, connecting his lips with my neck again.

"Sod off", I grunted and pushed him away, but he just grabbed my wrist and pulled me against him.

"Are you sure about that?" he whispered. I could not let this go on.

"Yes, Draco, stop it", I said and stepped away. "This is wrong. Daphne is my best friend."

"So?" he shrugged.

"So?! I just made out with the guy she's been in love with her whole life!" I whisper-yelled. "She's going to murder me if she ever finds out." Draco didn't respond for a while.

"Well, you can't bloody tell her", he spat. "It was a bloody kiss, it didn't mean anything. I don't need people thinking I'm interested in you." I looked away at that comment. That was rude.

I shouldn't be bothered by it. It didn't mean anything for me either. I was just trying to satisfy the physical attraction.

"No, I'm not going to tell her, but I can't go behind her back either", I said, refusing to make eye contact. "I think you should leave." He raised his brows, taking a step back. I felt his eyes burn on my skin, but I couldn't give in. I couldn't do that to Daphne. It was just physical attraction, I didn't want her to get hurt over that.

"You're sure?" Draco asked, his fingertips gracing my waist. I couldn't let him take control like that.

"I said, leave!" I said and pulled open the door. His look hardened and he scoffed. He didn't say anything, he just walked out.
