《Pandora's Gift》Chapter 17

The next day started like the rest or at least that was how it was supposed to go. And it did start out the same with getting up and rushing Hatori to school. And then rushing herself to work right after. She was greeted by the warm smile of the front desk lady who was more than happy to inform her that a locker had been picked out in the women's changing room for her. Which made her happy to know she could finally start wearing civilian clothes to work and changi here at the agency. That would save a lot of unwanted attention during her commutes to and from work. That made her happy, though stepping into the office to be greeted with Bakugou standing there with his arms crossed over his wide chest. Look as irritated and unimpressed as always. Which kind of killed her happy mood as her smiled dead and she found herself looking around the room for Kirishima to lighten her mood back up.

"Where is Kirishima?" She asked bluntly when she didn't see the mountain of sunshine that was a man.

"He's back on evenings while you and I are on morning duty. He will be in around lunch time. Now let's get a move on, we're already late," and with that Bakugou stormed past her making sure to knock his shoulder against hers as he passed her. Of course in her mind she was calling the blonde every curse that crossed her mind. But at least she was smart enough to keep them to herself. Without Kirishima around to be a buffer she knew better than to start a fight with Bakugou.

So Kirishima was back on working the evening shift it seemed which made sense with Bakugou being the morning person he was. So it made sense that Bakugou would work in the morning and Kirishima the afternoon or evening. Still it sucked she was stuck with Hatori at the moment which meant at least for today she was stuck forced on the same schedule as Kirishima since she could only work while the kid was in school till he went home. Hatori would be coming home any day now which was a little bit nice. Sakaki loved the kid but he did make hero work harder and limited her hours. In a sense him being around just reminded her of why she couldn't have a family or kids if she wanted to remain a hero. She would be lying if she didn't admit that made her omega sad and then would drive her hormones all over the place as her body would want a child while her mind reminded her it was not a good idea.

At least the patrol with Bakugou in a way was easier than with Kirishima. No one seemed to want to approach two scowling morons in hero costumes in the street. Made it fast to get around the normal patrol route as they spent the morning walking side by side even though Bakugou would repeatedly tell her not to walk beside him. Eventually though he stopped when he realized that Sakaki was not going to fall back in her steps. Hell she even went out of her way once to speed up her pace ever so slightly as she pulled a step ahead of him which had him explode before she fell back into step with him.

Yet it was when lunch rolled around and they started to head back to the agency that Bakugou noticed she never came with a lunch, nor did she eat while on patrol. Though she did eye up a few food stands on the way back to the agency she still didn't ask to stop. Did she grab food when she went with Kirishima on patrol? He would have to ask the red head when he saw him next. Making it back to the agency Bakugou was heading to the little kitchenette break room they had where he stored his and Kirishima's lunches he had made.

Though he noticed her walking past the break room and heading towards the office which had the blonde pause and turn towards her.

"Oi! Where the hell are you going?" He barked at her which had her pause before she looked back at him.

"To the office to get started on paperwork. I need some days off so I'm gonna work through lunch for the next few days," she said simply before she turned and headed to the office, not watching Bakugou's reaction to her blunt answer. He was aware she needed some time off, Kirishima had brought it up and reminded Bakugou that he too really should take some time off as well. And yet the scowl on his face was a bit different than his day to day one. No, this one may have actually given away how much he didn't like the idea that she was going to skip eating in lue of getting more work done with what limited time she had.

Why was it he had the urge to go after the woman and drag her into the break room with him and share his own lunch? Or give her Kirishima's after all he could go get himself something to eat on patrol.but he resisted that urge and instead walked into the break room alone to eat his lunch quickly before he joined her in the office. Though this time she was sitting at Kirishima's desk as her hands worked quickly signing things anywhere she needed to as she glanced over the papers before her.

Surprisingly both were able to do their paperwork in silence. No bickering back and forth or attempting to rip each other's throats out. It would have been nice had either of them been able to actually enjoy the peace that had come with the silence. Sakaki was too busy trying to plan out how the rest of this week should go. Hatori should be going home soon. The next day or two top. That didn't leave her a lot of time before her own heat would decide to kick itself into hyperdrive and her pills that she was already doubling up on would no longer be able to hold back this animalistic desire she had. But she was persistent that she would survive till the weekend before needing to hide away from the world.

Bakugou on the other hand was trying to deal with and decipher the strong urge to suddenly want to care for the annoying woman working in the desk next to him. He wanted to tell her to stop working and eat some lunch. Even though another part of him wanted to yell at himself and say he shouldn't care if the idiot wanted to starve. Let her go hungry if it was her own will. But that thought only upset him more. Today it was his turn to struggle with getting his mind to focus on the rash at hand before him. Even when Kirishima stopped in to say hello to them before starting his own patrol. Bakugou barely noticed his red headed roommate and friend.

Now that didn't go completely unnoticed by the woman. Originally she assumed Bakugou was simply too busy with his paperwork to actually greet his friend with anything more than a grunt. But once Kirishima left and she was able to actually pause for a second she noticed Bakugou spending minutes on the same paper where he should have been able to get a couple of different ones signed in the time it took him to do one. Clearly something was eating away at him but she didn't dare try and ask what it was. Cause that would mean breaking the nice silence. And she was kinda enjoying the blonde not being extremely loud and annoying. But still she found her gaze shifting over from time to time.

Well that was till her stomach gave out a tumble unhappy that she had not eaten lunch. Which had apparently been loud enough for the blonde to hear from his spot at his own desk. And that was all it took to break the once peaceful silence.

"God damn it you idiot. This is what you get for skipping lunch. Your stupid stomach better not growl like that all afternoon," he yelled at her from his desk as his attention seemed to abandon his paperwork before him.

"Oh you'll live it's not like it's your stomach. Just focus on your paperwork and don't worry about it," she growled back at him. Though to her surprise he didn't argue back any more and instead he stood up quickly, his chair nearly toppling back. And she watched in surprise as the man stormed out of the office. All she could do was silently arch an eyebrow unsure what just happened.

Though Bakugou was not gone for all that long before he was storming back into the office. Though he didn't return empty handed either as he walked over and proceeded to nearly throw a bento box in front of her. Where the hell did he get that from?

"Did you just steal someone's lunch?" She was completely shocked as she automatically assumed Bakugou had just shaken down one of his sidekicks for their lunch.

"Don't worry about it and just eat it!" Was the yell that greeted her question.

"I'm not about to eat someone's lunch," she retorted, not even touching the food before her. Hell she was about to grab it and see if she could figure out who it belonged to and return it.

"It's no one's lunch," okay that was a lie it was meant for Kirishima but the redhead could fend for himself for one day.

"Bull shit. It's clearly someone's lunch. I'm not eating someone else's lunch!" She argued as she grabbed the bento and started to stand up.

"I brought it. So just eat the damn thing!" That made her pause. He brought it? Did that mean he made it? Now curiosity was getting the best of her as she sat on the edge of her chair before finally giving in to the curiosity as she opened the box to take in the rather healthy home cooked meal that greeted her. It was a bit more healthy than something she would make herself but it looked incredibly good. Taking the chopsticks in hand she couldn't help but grab a piece of breaded chicken before plopping it into her mouth. The breading was a little spicy, it screamed Bakugou's cooking with the mild bite on something as simple as a breaded bit of chicken. It was clearly cooked by the blonde as she eyed up some stuff that she remembered from their little picnic.

"Why do I have a feeling I'm eating Kirishima's dinner?" She spoke up asking the question out loud as it crossed her mind though she wasn't expecting Bakugou to actually say anything back to that.

And of course her assumption was right as Bakugou didn't look or even grunt at her as he simply started working hard and quickly at his work. As Sakaki enjoyed the home cooked meal as she also worked on her share of paperwork. She had to wonder how such a small agency had so much paperwork? Then again she had a feeling Miruko just pushed off her paperwork on her many sidekicks allowing them to all deal with it and allow her all the free time she had between patrols. Sakaki would be lying if she didn't admit she was missing the days with Miruko.

The next day was a duplicate of the last, rushing Hatori to school, then rushing to work. Though at least this time she wore civilian clothes with her hero costume in a bag in hand before running to work. It was nice not getting odd looks for actually running down the streets in her hero costume like an idea. Though at least Bakugou wasn't standing there waiting for her this time as she rushed to the locker room to change into her hero costume. One of the beta sidekicks was also in the locker room getting changed as well which was nice. Sakaki had not gotten to really talk with any of the sidekicks that worked for the two men. So it was nice getting a chance to chat with her as she got dressed. Finishing tying up her boots, she grabbed her mask and closed the locker she made her way out of the locker room.

Though this time she was indeed met with an irritated looking Bakugou. But then again had there ever been a time when she had not seen him scowling and grumpy? Nope. She had long ago accepted that the blonde was just always a permanent grumpy old man.

"Took you fucking long enough," of course that was the greeting she got which earned the ash blonde an eye roll from the dark haired woman.

"Good morning to you too Bakugou. Why yes I had a great night thanks for asking," her voice was completely laced with a bitter tone as she just kept walking wanting to get out of the agency and start the patrol. Of course that earned her a growl from the blonde as he gave chase after her. And yet he had no comeback to that bitter tone she used as her fingers worked delicately to position her mask up onto her face, strapping it into place as she pushed through the front doors to the agency to hit the streets.

"Oi! How many times do I have to tell you not to walk ahead of me!" He yelled at her when her pace only picked up as she started walking down the street.

"You haven't grown up at all have you?" And asked glancing over as she watched the angry pomeranian glaring at her.

"What the hell does that mean?" He asked with a growl. His top lip pulled back to reveal his sharp k-9's as he pretty much snarled at her like a pissed off dog.

"You used to say the same thing back in highschool. Usually it was at Midoriya or Todoroki. But I see you have not changed much since those childish days," she said simply looking over at him with a bored look which seemed to only irritate the man even more.

Of course Bakugou did not enjoy being told he was still the immature kid he used to be. And of course his temper got the best of him as she could hear the crackles and pops from his quirk as small controlled mini explosions went off within his enclosed fist. Then again she was being a bit rude, her body was aching a bit. And sleep had not been her friend that night. Doubling up on her suppressants was taking a toll on her body. And all her body wanted to do was go home soak in a bath and start nesting to get ready for her incoming heat. But she could do either and instead she was stuck with the annoying blonde all day. Which only worked to sour her own mood even more.

And yet as she noticed how upset he was but he still bit his tongue not actually saying anything back guilt quickly started to eat at her. She had offended him yet he didn't say a thing back even though he was clearly pissed with her. She stuck her bottom lip between her teeth as she resisted the urge to whine at the realization.

"Sorry that was going too far," she said softly as her pace faulteres for a second allowing Bakugou to become a full step ahead of her. Now it was Bakugou's turn to be surprised as his head whipped over to look at the woman walking beside him who now refused to look at him as her eyes glanced along the street and alleys they walked past.

"Tch. Whatever," was that his way of accepting her apology? She wasn't about to question it as the two once again fell into step as the morning dragged on.

Simple purse snatchers and one attempted robbery were all that happened. It made the morning boring as she just let Bakugou handle all of them anyways as she stood back only really assisting in a take down of one of the robbers as they tried to make a break for it. It was easy work, she didn't even need any help with a support item. The job was so simple. Clearly the robbers were extremely low level; they had no combat skills at all even with their own quirks.

It felt like it was days before she finally stepped foot back into the agency behind Bakugou. Once again she didn't bother with lunch, heading straight to the guys office to grab her share of the paperwork and once again she sat at Kirishima's desk and started to work not caring that she was skipping lunch to work. She didn't even both to look up from her work as Bakugou walked into the room as well. Though when something suddenly landed on the paper she was in the middle of signing. She paused, surprised to see yet another bento box placed in front of her. Bakugou had not even paused as he dropped the box off and kept walking to his own desk to eat his lunch as he worked.

"I'm not going to eat Kirishima's lunch for a second day in a row," she said simply as she pushed the bento away from herself.

"It's not shitty hairs bento," was the quiet reply that came down the blonde. That had her head whip over to look at the blonde. Did that mean that he made the bento for her this time? She had a feeling if she asked she wouldn't get an answer from him and if anything he may get upset and just take it back. And so she smiled softly and grabbed the bento.

"Thanks for the meal," she said softly with a clap of her hands before she started to eat the food. Still it was a bit more spicy than she typically would make herself but if she tried to say it didn't taste great she would be lying. And yet it made her omega so incredibly happy that an alpha took the time to get her food. She tried to tell herself that it was just Bakugou's way of dealing with her growling stomach as he made it clear the day before that it annoyed him when she didn't eat and her stomach would then fill the room with growls. But still she was more than happy to enjoy the home cooked meal from the angry blonde as the two ate in silence working away at the piles of paperwork.

Well they worked in silence till Bakugou's cell phone went off. With it pulled out in a second the blonde answers the phone only to watch his eyes light up and the wide toothy grin pulled at his lips as he hung up the phone and jumped to his feet.

"Come on extra we are needed in the center of town. There's a villian attack," Bakugou wasn't the only one who was excited about being called out for back up.

"Alright," she said, jumping to her feet and grabbing the mask that hung around her neck and strapped it into place as she ran after Bakugou who was storming out of the agency.
