《Pandora's Gift》Chapter 7

Aside from the annoying fans the patrol was oddly boring. She wondered how often Kirishima and Bakugou travelled these streets? Or maybe it was because the streets were in such a popular, well lit and busy area? The stores almost all had some sort of camera system in place, it was just overall a bad area to try and rob or steal from even if hero's didn't walk around. She had a feeling this area of the city was patrolled more for a show than to actually stop criminals. It was all for show surely, the hero's in costume patrolling the safe street was simply to help make the people feel safer than they already were. Sure there was the odd moron who would try to snatch a purse or rob a store but it was rare for a street like this one.
"Do you guys always patrol such main streets?" Sakaki asked as she walked beside the tall red head. She nearly had to crank her head back at an odd angle to look up at him.
"Huh? Oh yes for the most part at least," he answered though she didn't miss the arch of an eyebrow and the questioning tone to his voice just secretly asking her to continue with why she asked the question.
"You should think of changing it up a little. I understand showing off for the people. But these streets probably only see pickpockets and purse snatchers. The streets are well lit at night, lots of crowds by day, the cops would show up before anyone could rob any of the stores, and if they did rob the store they all seem to have top notch security cameras. Any criminal worth their salt wouldn't dare do anything stupid in an area like this only the morons who panic would. Streets that are less populated, or that have stores that are not as fancy, or ones with fewer street lights. Those are areas that should be patrolled more," she voiced her honest opinion of the way Kirishima and Bakugou were doing things and why she figured they should change it. She almost feared her blunt answer may have upset the man but he still only smiled widely down at her.
"Oh wow you really realized all that on one patrol?" Kirishima was surprised she was able to notice how the street was a low risk area for any sort of high risk villainous activities.
"I noticed it quickly at the start of the patrol just a few blocks in," she said with a simple shrug of her shoulders. After all, if she wouldn't have noticed something so simple as that fact then the last number of hours of walking had been nothing really more than a fan service for the people Miruko would skin her alive.
"Still I'm impressed. Miruko sure has taught you a lot," he said, trying to give the woman a compliment. Though still she simply shrugged her shoulders.
"Eh I learned quickly that if I wanted to see action I needed to find the streets with the much higher risks. Miruko has been teaching me a lot though. I owe her everything," she mumbled the last bit to herself even though she was pretty sure the redhead had been able to hear the words anyway.
"Still that's pretty impressive," Kirishima, the warm ray of sunshine he was, still continued to compliment her. To which she softly shrugged her shoulders.
"Eh not really. Miruko would have kicked my ass if I didn't learn anything while working for her," she said simply not really seeing any reason why he was so adamant to compliment her. She eyed him up softly before it became a soft glare as she noticed his uncomfortable shift under her head gaze. The sudden spike in his scent gave away his sudden nervousness. What had him so uneasy? Was it the incident with Bakugou? Or was it the fact that he had realized she was an omega? That thought had her pause mid step for a split second. Was that it? He had been in her home and she knew there was no way he wouldn't have noticed. After all the place would have smelled of nothing much her omega pheromones.

"If you have something on your mind just spit it out," she tried not to growl at him as she glanced over watching his reaction carefully. Kirishima had to admit the woman could surely get scary when she wanted to be. If he didn't know for himself he would not believe the woman beside him was truly an omega. Then again he noticed the night before. When she was in her hero uniform she was not the same person as she was once in civilian clothes. He noticed once she changed and they left her apartment she was much warmer, more smiley, and she seemed more relaxed.
"Are you an omega?" He finally asked the question that had been weighing on his mind since the night before when he and Bakugou had entered her home.
Damn it she knew she should have stopped the two in the lobby of her apartment. She knew they would learn the truth the second they stepped too into her home. It was nearly the same as showing them her nest. Her home was her safe place where she could truly be herself and wasn't forced to put on the brave face she always wore in her hero costume.
"I am," she said simply knowing that there was no way she could truly deny it now.
"Really? We went through high school together. Why keep it a secret?" He asked, still clearly surprised over learning the truth. She had to bite her tongue and not get irritated with him after all he was an alpha he would never understand her struggles.
"I ate suppressants like candies back in high school. In order to make it through UA I had to keep it to myself. The teachers knew and a handful of friends. But come on! In a school that was dominated by alpha's and working to enter a field that is also dominated by alpha's I needed to make sure I wouldn't be judged based on being an omega," she said simply hoping the idiot beside her would understand but she didn't expect him to. After all he never had to worry about someone looking down at him for something he couldn't control.
"Makes sense. But you know me and Bakugou wouldn't do that to you," he said simply as he rubbed the back of his neck as it seemed the topic made the large wall of flesh nervous. It almost made Sakaki laugh to see the man so nervous.
"I'm sure you won't. Bakugou on the other hand I am more doubtful," she said honestly even though Bakugou had not yet dragged the fact that he knows she's an omega.
"Trust me. He can be a little rough around the edges but he would never do that to someone," Kirishima said, trying to flash her a small smile.
"A little? The man's still as explosive as he was when he was a kid," she completely called out the blonde angry pomeranian who was now the focus of the conversation.
"He's not usually this bad. He's been working hard and I think he's a bit stressed. He usually is not so quick to anger any more. But he is still a bit grumpy," he said laughing lightly knowing there was no way to deny his best friend was still not someone who could get along with everyone and his temper was still a bit explosive. The blonde just never could express himself in a way that wasn't blunt and abrasive. It was just who Katsuki was. Sakaki sighed softly, how had their conversation turned to talking about the angry blonde man?

"Still this is an alpha dominated field. Omegas make up more rescue or support. I refuse to let my secondary gender label what kind of hero work I can do. So I wear scent patches every day to prevent alphas from harassing me. Even if you and Bakugou won't," she said as the duo walked, wanting to get away from the conversation of Bakugou.
"I guess it makes sense," the red head mumbled. He really couldn't comprehend how hard it was for the woman to be an unmarked omega fighting in an alpha dominated field. Still he felt oddly bad and wished he could offer her some sort of help. But knowing her she wouldn't take it even if he offered.
"We should go for supper some time soon again. I know Katsuki won't admit it but it was fun getting out and relaxing after work," of course Kirishima was more than happy to change the subject and plaster a wide grin on his face. How he could be so happy after spending twelve hours walking around and still having more to do she wasn't sure. Sure Sakaki liked the walking over doing nothing but even she couldn't bring herself to be so chipper.
"Yeah sure. But I won't be able to for a bit," she said as she thought about what day it was. She would have company soon so that would make it hard to go out with the two idiots for supper if she had an extra mouth to feed. Now her actually appearing to be thinking something over drew the redhead attention. This wasn't her thinking of an excuse. No, she actually seemed to be thinking about something important.
"Oh must be something important if you're thinking about it so hard," Kirishima said, noticing her brows pull together as she realized she had lost track of her days. Was it Wednesday or Thursday? She needed to pick up Hatori soon.
"It is," is the mumble as the boy's hero agency comes into view. Once the duo walked through the door they were greeted with a less than pleased Bakugou. But then again when was the blonde ever happy?
"Took you two long enough," was the growl that came from him as he crossed his arms. He was in just some plain civilian clothes. Typical jeans and a dark t-shirt.
"Sorry Bakubro but you know how the fans can be," Kirishima said flashing his friend an innocent I'm sorry smile.
"They swarm the big red idiot like flies," Sakaki grumbled, finding it just as annoying having been slowed down by the crowds of fans that wanted to talk with Red Riot. Her words actually had a snort come from the blonde as he tried not to laugh.
The two men started chatting as Sakaki pulled her cell phone from her utility belt, turning it on now that she was no longer on duty. Apparently turning the device on had it blowing up with missed text messages and calls.
"Fuck," she hissed scrolling through the device before her fingers quickly texted out a message to the last number that had been trying to reach her. She should have known to keep her cell on. She wasn't working at Miruko's at the moment and that would have confused the hell out of the poor babysitter. But she barely got the text sent before the front doors of the agency opened and a small projectile had collided with the woman's legs as tiny arms wrapped around her. Sakaki had long ago grabbed both men's attention when they heard her curse while looking down at her cell phone. But before either man could even try to ask what the matter was, the door to their agency opened and they watched a small body barrel itself into the tall woman.
A girl looking like she was in her late teens walked in after the small human who was now entangled in Sakaki's legs. This had both men arching an eyebrow completely surprised at the scene before them.
"I'm so sorry. I went to your work to drop him off after I couldn't get a hold of you. They told me where you were working. I'm sorry I couldn't keep him till you got off work," the teen said as she bowed over and over to the pro hero in front of her as she continued to apologize as the woman attempted to untangle the little boy wrapped around her legs.
"It's okay. It's my fault. I didn't realize what day it was and should have let you know ahead of time," Sakaki said as she was finally able to pry the little boy from her body and picked him up smiling widely at the six year old with a mess of dark hair that looked a little long and wild. Bright blue eyes looked back at her as the boy smiled widely.
The two men shared a look of confusion at the sight before them. The usually angry and stoic woman was smiling warmly as she hugged the kid before placing him down on the floor again before turning her attention to talking with the babysitter. This gave the kid the chance to look around before spotting the other two pro hero's in the room, in which case he ripped his small hand from hers and took off towards the two. This drew Sakakis' attention away from the babysitter quickly thanking her and waving her off in time to watch the kid stop to stand and look up with stars in his eyes at the two mountains of men before him.
"Oh wow your Red Riot and your Dynomite," the kid squealed as he looked from one man to the other with a wide grin and wide eyes.
"Hatori," came the scolding tone Sakaki gave the kid for just running off on her even if he didn't go far. She looked from the kid to the two idiots and she really had to bite back the urge to laugh at the complete look of shock both men gave her.
"But Aunty it is pro hero Dynamite and Red Riot," the kid protested. Sakaki wasn't sure if it was a look of relief or more shock that the two had on their faces. No Bakugou looked relieved when the kid called her Aunty. Kirishima looked even more confused and shocked.
"Aunty?" Both men questioned at the same time.
"Well yes and no. This is my best friend's kid. Hatori introduce yourself I know your mother taught you better manners than this," she hissed down at the kid who was too starstruck to take her hiss to heart.
"I'm Naito Hatori. I'm a huge fan of both of yours," the kid said, nearly vibrating as he tried to remain still as he introduced himself. That had Sakaki give the mop of dark hair on his head a tossle before she earned her hand a slap from the kid as she laughed lightly.
"Sorry I didn't think I had to worry about him till tomorrow after work. Hatori here spends a week every few months with me," she said simply not going into detail but she expected that the reason was kinda self explanatory. But the confused look Kirishima gave her almost made her laugh. He didn't get it and that was written all over his face.
"Hmm never thought I saw you as the type of person to babysit," Bakugou hummed rather amused at the idea of her caring for a kid. And yet why was it the thought was oddly a turn on? Thinking about seeing the woman with a little kid stuck to her hip. Sakaki simply rolled her eyes at the man. All the while Kirishima was far too happy to lean down and start chatting with the boy who looked over the moon to see the pro hero who littered his bedroom walls with posters.
"I knew his mother before she got pregnant. She's been raising Hatori all on her own. I couldn't let her do that. So I've been helping them as much as I can. And this is one way I do it. I take him during her heats since she can not care for him. Nor can he care for himself. So I won't be able to work this weekend. I'll be in tomorrow while he's in school. But after that I'll have to get him from school and care for him. So you two will be a bit on your own," she said simply not caring that she didn't really discuss it beforehand with them. Miruko always knew and usually gave her the evenings off so she could pick him up from school in time. For now she was smiling softly as she watched the kid yap poor Kirishima's ear off but the big redhead didn't seem to mind as he smiled at the kid he was kneeling before.
"Huh. You can't do that, we are in the middle of a mission," Bakugou hissed at her.
"Well then are one of you two going to pick him up and bring him here to watch him?" She hissed under her breath not wanting to draw the kids' attention away from Kirishima. That question had Bakugou frown as his nose scrunched up unhappy with the fact that she had a point. The kid couldn't be left to walk home alone, and he couldn't be left alone either while she worked for hours after his school classes ended.
"You can take the weekend off but tomorrow he will need to come here I guess," was the grumble Bakugou gave while thinking over how to deal with the kids' presence. Someone would have to stay behind to watch the kid.
"Hey Kirishima. You're on patrol tomorrow afternoon right? Would you mind picking Hatori up after school and bringing him back to the agency with you? He's just over at Alder Elementary school," Sakaki called out, pausing the conversation the two were having as both sets of eyes looked over at her.
"Huh. You know I am. And sure it's not that far off my patrol path I can pick him up before heading back here," he answered, which once again had the kid before him nearly vibrating on the spot. It had been a while since she saw the little boy so genuinely happy. Which had Sakaki happy he agreed though she wondered how much he would hate her afterwards, the pro hero was going to get swarmed at the school tomorrow. She knew herself first hand how the kids got when they saw a hero in full costume outside the school grounds.
"Awesome I'll let the school know in the morning," she hummed trying to keep herself from laughing. Though she could feel Bakugou staring at her.
"He's going to get swarmed tomorrow ain't he?" Bakugou leaned over to softly whisper to her.
"Yep," she said, smiling wildly as she popped the p on her yep at the blonde. As she watched the two boys in front of her she smiled softly at the sight. Kirishima seemed to be really enjoying himself as he talked with the kid. It warmed her heart watching the two.
"Hatori you better leave Red Riot alone. He's just getting off work let him be," she said trying to coax the kid over so she could head home.
"It's okay. I'll just go get changed and we can walk you two home," Kirishima said, flashing her a wide smile. She wanted to say it felt like he was doing this to put on a show in front of the kid who was clearly a big fan.
"No it's okay we will be fine alone," she tried to shrug the redhead off but he wasn't gonna have any of it.
"Come on what kinda man would we be if we let a woman and young kid walk the streets alone at night. That's not very manly now is it?" He asked and that once again had the kid before him vibrating hearing the man talk about manliness. It seemed this was not an argument she was going to win. With that the redhead jumped to his feet and rushed off to the locker rooms to get changed. This in turn had the kid turn his attention to Bakugou firing off questions at the blonde. And although he didn't look pleased the blonde still kneeled down and answered the kids questions the best he could while the three waited for Kirishima to rejoin them.
