UNDERUSED PERSONALITIES

to help bring your

characters to life

▂▂▂▂▂▂

you know how some people just aren't original? you know those people who will do anything to fit in?

here's an example: corey's a good person, but corey's what people would call a follower. he tries too hard to fit in. he has no backbone and will do or believe anything anyone tells him. he's the kind of kid who wants to be "cool", so he does what the cool kids do. if the popular guys wear baggy jeans, so does corey. if they decide to go with skinny jeans, corey will too. if they're into lil wayne, that's his new favorite artist. if smoking pot is "the cool thing", then consider corey a stoner. he'll do whatever it takes to fit in. see what i mean? corey isn't his own person. corey will do whatever it takes to fit in. corey just wants to be like everyone else. corey is a follower!! i never see this personality, ever.

are we? no, we're not. so why not have a character who is all rags and not riches. you know what i mean? poor, hand me downs, no luxuries, no money. that's what i mean. so, the personality of this person would be kind of a user. you know what i mean? hang out with people for their stuff. they might even be a thief. we don't all have the perfect lifestyle. i know, this plot might not be fun but you can build off it. i promise.

nerds can be fun too!! you know, they prefer study dates to real dates, reading to partying. they're reserved, kept to themselves and extremely intelligent. you can have a lot of fun with it too. imagine, all their firsts. first kisses, first dates, first parties. you can build off of their personality. start them off as a nerd, but build them slowly. make them more outgoing. hell, make them a scholar if you want. graduated from their highschool at the top of their class. maybe even make them Valedictorian. now ask yourself, why were they valedictorian? did they generally enjoy school and wanted to succeed, or were their parents the kind of parents who expected 4.0 GPA and nothing less? you can build a great back story off of this. they could've had strict parents with a limited childhood growing up, causing their school work to be their only focus/escape. it could run in their family and they wanted to continue the tradition or maybe this person is a fucking genius. you can build a lot off of this.

!! not everyone acts their age. what i mean is their mom worked 40+ hours a week, their dad isn't in the picture and they were stuck raising their siblings. that or getting a job, at the age of 16. get what i mean? you could build off of that as well. make them outgoing eventually, make them live it up a little. but start them off as mature, adult like and then slowly change.

lol. i mean the kid who says he lives in a mansion, his parents drives a corvette and he's rich as fuck when in reality he lives in a trailer his parents drive a van and only one door opens and they barely get by. but, this person lies and lies. they want to seem fabulous when in reality, they are not. not much more i can say. make the character lie!! it's that simple. then when someone finds out you lied, why did you lie? embarrassment, pathological liar? build from the lies!!

alright it's 1 am and

i'm sobbing bc i just

finished watching the

quiet place. i'm not okay.
