《Toxic Thoughts》Chapter 10: Recovery

Groaning, he squinted his eyes to get used to the light. It quickly faded, as though someone dimmed it for him. His head felt light as he forced his eyes open, being greeted by an unfamiliar ceiling. Now hyperaware of his surroundings, Katsuki let his face fall aside, seeing a bag of blood connected to him through his wrist. His other arm was wrapped in bandages, so it seemed, and he felt like shit.

"You're finally awake I see"

Bakugou frowned as he saw the frame of his homeroom teacher in the dim light of the room.

"Where the hell am I?"

"Nurses office" he answered, short and direct like always. Suddenly his memories came back to him, his breath hitching as he thought about what happened. Dunce face caught him while he was cutting... When he slammed the door in his face, he had reached for the knife again.

He heard the footsteps in the hallway and just wanted to end it as soon as possible. He tried slashing his wrists, but he only got to do one before the door burst open and ice covered its frame. He failed... Now everyone would know how pathetic he truly is... That he's even weaker than they imagined him to be...

"You passed out from blood loss" Aizawa continued.

"I have confiscated your pocketknife for safety reasons"

Bakugou nodded, swallowing the lump in his throat before asking a dreaded question.

"Did you call m-my parents?"

His voice cracked, making him sound so fucking weak. He hated it! But he couldn't hide his fear, knowing the protocol of this school.

Parents were to be warned if their child was causing harm to themselves with the intend to hurt themselves or worse. It's so they could have a say in the precautions or some bullshit like that. The thing is, if Bakugou's parents were called, the old hag already knew he exposed himself. She knew he had broken his image and she would deem him weak and worthless like all those times before. They'd probably pull him out of school because of it... But he didn't want that! He didn't want to leave UA just to go back to that hell!

"No" Aizawa responded, seeing his student visibly relax. Such a simple sign, yet it triggered anger within the teacher.

"I wanted to, well, I need to do so, those are the rules, but I won't"

"W-why?" Katsuki asked confused. Shouta sighed, taking the dark brown book from the table beside him and holding it up for Bakugou to see. A bookmark was visibly sticking out, showing where the black haired man had stopped reading.

He was actually reading right up until the moment he noticed movement in the bed and heard his student wake up. The things that were described in there... So terrible, tragic. Things that a child should never go through... Yet all written so beautifully poetic. None of the things that he'd expected of the problem child. He noticed Bakugou tense up again, fear evident in his eyes.

"How the hell did you get that?!"

"I see you recognize it" Aizawa stated, putting it back down.

"Kirishima was so kind as to hand it to me. You should thank him because it's the only reason your parents aren't alerted about what happened"

Katsuki bit the inside of his lip, glaring down as he clenched his fists. Damn Shitty Hair... A part of him is grateful, another part of him curses the red head for caring about a nobody like himself.

He couldn't imagine how worried he must be about him right now, seeing as he was already so concerned when he didn't take the fucking medicine for a damn cold.

"Your mother seems to be the source of all this, am I correct?" Eraserhead asked, careful, not trying to frighten the blonde.

"Y-yeah..." Bakugou choked out, taking a shaky breath.

"She... S-she abuses me... I-I'm w-weak"

Tears filled his eyes and he silently started crying as Aizawa did something unexpected. He pulled Bakugou towards him for a hug.

"If one of my strongest students is going to call himself weak, I better expel all of 1-A together" he mused, letting the blonde cry onto his shoulder.

"I don't know what she has been telling you kid, but I know that it isn't true. You're strong for being able to get through such a thing and still strive to be a hero. And it's brave to rely on others sometimes, it's okay to ask for help if you can't do it alone. You and I are only human after all... Nobody expects you to be perfect"

Katsuki held onto his dark clothes like it was his life line, crying loudly.

His sobs filled the room, echoing off the walls and dancing through the room on their own little song. Through his cries, he confessed his feelings to Shouta. How he thought nobody would ever like someone like him. How he used aggression and violence to keep people away from him, scared to lose them once they realised how pathetic he is... How he thought he was weak and not enough. All his insecurities that his mother had forced upon him, they were all out in the open now.

Recovery Girl had given him a sedative so he could sleep some more, seeing as it was already very late in the evening. Aizawa made arrangements to fix up Bakugou's dorm so it would be ready for him to move back into when he was fired from the nurses office. After that he sat down with All Might, Present Mic, Midnight and Nezu to figure out how they were going to sue this woman.

Meanwhile Kirishima laid awake in bed, staring at his ceiling. He was unable to sleep, his mind always wandering off to a certain ash blonde... He was worried about his mental health, unsure of how to help him cope with whatever was going on in his life. But he knew one thing for certain, he will stand by his side no matter what! He doesn't want to abandon Bakugou ever again! No, he is his friend and he'll make sure he'll get better! Yeah, his friend...

Eijirou bit his lip as he thought back about Ashido's teasing. He hadn't been able to stop thinking about it, to be honest. His mind making up fantasies and fake relationships or situations... Yet he didn't know how Bakugou would really be in a relationship... Let alone that he is gay and even wants to date him... The red head pouted as he sighed, rolling onto his side. He would push his own feelings aside if it meant that Katsuki could be happy, that was a promise he made to himself that night.

He couldn't let this silly little crush stand in the way of their friendship, no way! If he let that happen, he couldn't call himself manly anymore! He was determined to see the ash blonde again tomorrow, to make sure he was okay and recovering well. Yet he didn't manage to catch a lot of sleep that night...

"You look like a zombie" Kaminari muttered as he tiredly poked at his breakfast.

"Says you" Kirishima mumbled, munching on his sandwich.

"Come on guys! Be positive!" Ashido smiled, nudging them.

"Aizawa sensei told us Bakugou will pull through and we'll all be here to support him!"

"Yeah, that's right!" Eijirou grinned, showing off his pointy teeth.

"I really hope we can go visit him soon!"

"Hmm, bet they'll keep him under surveillance for a while after what happened... Besides, his dorm is still under reconstruction" Sero shrugged.

"It was Kaminari's idea to break the door down" Todoroki stated as he got some accusing looks.

"Yeah, and they're still trying to get those blood stains out of the carpet" Momo sighed, frowning a bit at the thought. The conversation fell silent and everybody finished their breakfast, leaving for class in their own little groups like they always did.

Everyone arrived in class on time but Aizawa wasn't there yet. Strange, seeing as he is normally always in the classroom whenever they arrive in the morning. As soon as the bell rang, he walked in though, ignoring the wave of questions about Bakugou as he put his things on his desk. With one solid glare, he silenced the class, letting out a long sigh afterwards.

"Bakugou is okay. He woke up last night and physically everything seems to be fine now. He still needs rest to recover and he will stay in the nurses office until further notice, understand? I'm limiting visitations to max 2 people at once under the supervision of a teacher"

"So we can go see him at lunch?" Kirishima asked hopeful.

"Yes, as long as you don't stress him out too much. He has a lot going on right now and I don't want anyone putting extra pressure on him in any way, understood?"

"Yes Aizawa sensei" the class answered and their lesson of the day started. In between classes, Midoriya approached the red head, asking if they could go see Kacchan together. They'd be with two, so it would be allowed! Besides, the class accepted it, seeing as they were obviously the two that were the most affected by this situation. Izuku because he felt most guilt of all, having Katsuki as his childhood friend and still being unable to figure this out. Eijirou because he was the closest to Bakugou right now, his equal so to speak.

That and the class had bets running on how long it would take for boom boom boy and shark baby to get together. Actually Mina put them all up to it but it wasn't her fault they followed her in her fangirl endeavours. So when lunch rolled around, the two boys went to grab their food in the canteen before walking over to the nurses office. Once they were there, they didn't immediately see Bakugou, but they did hear him.

"Oi, that's cheating!"

"I don't think it is young Bakugou" another voice chuckled.

"All Might?" Midoriya questioned out loud, making the retired hero pull the curtain back a little. The thin white curtain was shielding Bakugou's bed from prying eyes, giving him at least a little privacy.

"Oh? Is it lunch time already? I didn't even notice!" the tall blonde man laughed.

"What the hell is Deku doing here?" they heard Bakugou ask, yet they still couldn't see him.

"Remember what Eraser told you. You can have visitors now" All Might spoke.

"These people care for you, young Bakugou. They came all this way just to make sure you were alright! Now, I'll go get Recovery Girl so she can give you your food. I'm sure he'll be in good hands with you two, right boys?"

"You can count on us sir!" Kirishima smiled as the ex-hero smiled, walking past them.

Katsuki froze up when hearing Kiri's voice, not prepared to face him again so soon.

"Hi Kacchan!" Midoriya smiled, walking past the curtain.

"How are you doing?"

"How the hell do you think I'm doing?! I'm stuck in this damn room with a permanent babysitter!" the ash blonde snapped as the red head also entered the smaller, more secluded area.

Bakugou was sitting up in one the only bed standing there, a bag with fluid connected to his good arm while the other one was bandaged up. He was also wearing a black tank top, not the hoodie he was wearing when he was brought in. He had dark eyebags and his face looked like he'd been crying for hours. Over his bed stood a small table with a checkerboard on it. There were little to no black pieces on the board while at least three white pieces were levelled up and able to move freely across the board. Seems like All Might was beating him big time.

"What the fuck are the two of you doing here anyway?" he grumbled, frowning.

"We came to check on you bro! You really gave everyone quite the scare yesterday" Kirishima said, giving him a weak smile.

"We were just worried for you Kacchan! You're our friend" Deku stated. Bakugou huffed, looking aside at the window and staring outside. He didn't have a scowl on his face, but he seemed to be troubled none the less.

Eijirou sighed, placing a hand on his shoulder, making his gaze snap towards him, their eyes locking onto each other.

"I'm here for you, okay? We're going to get through this, together"

The normally angry teen opened his mouth to protest, but slowly closed it again without making a sound. He cast his eyes down at his hands and gave him a small nod.

"...Okay"
