《Toxic Thoughts》Chapter 7: Medicine
Advertisement
That night, Katsuki was tortured by nightmares. He had them frequently, but this time they seemed to be worse than normal. Him, surrounded by his classmates, Kirishima standing next to him, smiling. But then that smile faded and everyone stopped laughing. The distance grew wider and hushed whispered echoed through the void. Weak. Villain. Monster. Things like that swirling around him.
The people faded away, all but Kirishima, who stared down at Bakugou with hatred in his eyes.
"You're pathetic" he spat before vanishing. It made his heart crack, and he fell to his knees. Nobody likes you. It was her voice... The voice of his mother... Nobody loves you. Nobody cares for you. Nobody ever will. Like a mantra it repeated itself as Katsuki was being hit over and over again.
Being thrown around in the endless black void. He heard laughter again, seeing Kirishima, Ashido, Kaminari and Sero standing a little further away. Kirishima was standing with his back towards him as they joked around, acting like the silly teenagers they were. Katsuki tried to reach out for them, tried to speak up. But his limps were failing him, his lungs feeling like they were being crushed and he couldn't breathe.
All he could do was choke on his own blood, unable to sputter out a word. He had to watch helplessly as they drifted further and further away from him as he was dragged back by chains. Another kind of laughter filled the air. The laugh of his mother when she hurt him...
"You'll never escape me" she grinned, her heel digging into Katsuki's back. And even though he couldn't see her, he was sure she was grinning.
He won't ever escape her... Her grasp was too strong... Always in the back of his mind, holding him back from being happy. He shot awake, eyes wide open, tears running over his face. He'd been crying... It wasn't unusual, really, but that didn't mean he liked it. Stupid old hag... Stupid toxic thoughts haunting him... Why can't he be normal? Like everyone else? He'd rather be plain, like Deku, than suffer any moment longer.
He took a shaky breath, wiping away the tears with his sleeves. He just needs to remind himself that she isn't here right now. She can't hurt him here... He's safe at UA... A sudden knock on the door made him shriek up, his breathing getting louder again.
"Bakugou, it's me. Are you awake?"
Shitty Hair... Katsuki tried to calm down his heartrate as he steadied his breathing. He glared at the red head as he entered the room, a tray at hand.
"Oh, I see you're feeling better" he grinned, showing off his sharp teeth.
"Fuck off" Bakugou groaned, falling back on his bed, his head hitting the pillow. He remembered how he and ponytail had babied him the evening before. He had to admit that his headache was basically gone now and he did feel a lot better already. Look at that, medicine actually helped.
"I brought some warm soup! Well, it's reheated from yesterday, I hope you don't mind" Kirishima said, putting the tray down.

"Oh, and I'm also here to make sure you take your medicine"
"First food. That medicine tastes like shit" Bakugou muttered, sitting up in his bed. Eijirou laughed at that, carefully handing the ash blonde boy the bowl and spoon.
"So how is your head?"
"Better" Katsuki grumbled as he ate the soup. It wasn't the worst soup he'd ever eaten, but he could definitely make better.
"I'm glad to hear it!" Kirishima smiled, his eyes darting around the room as Bakugou ate.
"You have a really nice room, you know?" the red head commented, earning a hum from the blonde as he continued to eat his soup.
"Mina is jealous of your make-up collection, and she has a lot of make-up"
"Yeah, I got the damn memo" Katsuki grunted, giving him a small glare.
"If you tell any fucking extra I have make-up, I'll fucking kill you"
"Ah, I think it's already too late for that" Kiri chuckled, scratching the back of his neck.
"I'm pretty sure Mina told all of the girls... She was really impressed by the quality of your stuff"
Bakugou didn't react, not out loud at least. Internally he ws freaking out. Of course he knew the quality of his make-up was the shit!
But that was not the issue here. No, raccoon eyes had told the girls of their class... And if the girls knew, it was only a matter of time before everyone knew about it! No wonder ponytail hadn't bat an eye as she saw it, she was probably already informed about it! He disregarded the spoon and started drinking the soup from the bowl.
"Whoa, you're really hungry huh? That's good" Kirishima smiled, watching him gulp down everything.
"I can make better soup in my fucking sleep" he hissed, handing the bowl back to the red head.
"And I'll prove it to the whole damn class if I get the recipe of those chilli chocolates you gave me yesterday"
"Oh? You liked them?" Eijirou asked, a big dumb smile dominating his face.
"I thought you said recipe's were for amateurs~?"
"Give it to me or I'll never cook for you losers again" Katsuki growled.
"Okay, okay, I'll ask Sato about it" he chuckled, raising his hands in surrender.
"Anyway, time for your medicine!"
Bakugou didn't like the taste of it, but he took it without much fuss anyway. Kirishima gathered up everything afterwards, putting it back on the tray and leaving the room to let the ash blonde get his rest.
"How is he?" Sero asked as he arrived back downstairs.
"He's doing better than yesterday!" Kirishima smiled, putting everything in the sink to wash off later.
"I'm glad to hear the medicine is working" Yaoyorozu spoke with a small smile.
"Oh yeah, he also mentioned he liked those chili chocolates we made him so I need to ask Sato for the recipe" Ei added, making the rest of the squad cheer in victory.
"Yes! We did it! We pleased the angry Pomeranian!" Denki yelled, his arms thrown in the air.

"Do you think he'll tell me about where he gets his make-up if I give him the recipe?" Mina wondered out loud.
"Bakugou has make-up?" Ojiro asked in shock.
"Real quality stuff too if we need to believe Ashido" Jirou shrugged.
"Oh, I can assure you he only has top brand products" Momo nodded.
"Saw it yesterday when I was in his room"
"How come people are allowed in his room all of the sudden? I thought he didn't want anyone snooping around in his stuff?" the tailman asked confused.
"He's sick right now, that's basically the only reason" Sero shrugged.
"Don't break your head over it too much" Hagakure chuckled from next to her crush.
"If you say so" Ojiro sighed.
Kirishima went back to check up on the ash blonde a few times throughout the rest of the day, making sure Bakugou was okay. It's not like Katsuki didn't like the attention, certainly when it came from Eijirou, but the only reason he could find was because the red head didn't think he could look after himself... He was weak and he needed a babysitter... It made him feel pathetic and worthless. Useless piece of trash that needed to rely on others to pick it up because he couldn't do so himself. Yet a part of him liked that he had an excuse to spend extra time with the red head. His little ray of sunshine...

"What do you think you're doing?"
Bakugou glared at Todoroki as he passed him in the kitchen the next morning.
"What the hell does it look like I'm doing?" Katsuki shot back, grabbing a pear from the fruit basket. He really wasn't in the mood to have a little chit chat with that half-n-half right now. it was way too early in the fucking morning and he had spend more time on make-up than he wanted to so he was already pissed off.
"You aren't really planning on going to school, are you?" Shoto asked, seeing the ash blonde dress up in his winter coat, taking his scarf as well.
"Why the hell wouldn't I go to school?!"
"Because you're sick?" he spoke, but it came out more like a question.
"I'm feeling just fine! Don't fucking baby me Icyhot!" Bakugou barked, glaring at the dual quirk user.
"Kacchan?" Midoriya asked confused, only to be met by a door slamming shut. He looked at Todoroki, who simply shrugged. Katsuki huffed, his breath coming out as little clouds. He'd gone his whole life pretending to be okay. Besides, he actually took some medication this weekend. He should be just fine! Like always, he threw away the core of his piece of fruit, this time a pear, before entering class.
Aizawa sensei was laying down in front of the room, engulfed in his yellow sleeping bag. He didn't give it a lot of attention as he walked past him to his seat, placing down his bag and grabbing the things he needed. Like always, students started filling up the classroom sooner rather than later.
"Bakugou?"
The blonde looked away from the window, meeting eyes almost the same red as his own.
"What?"
"I thought you were going to stay in the dormitory today?" Kirishima frowned.
"What the hell gave you that fucking impression?" Katsuki hissed.
"It's just... You're still sick, aren't you?" the red head asked worriedly.
"I'm fucking fine. Stop babying me Shitty Hair, I can take care of myself, understand?" the ash blonde growled. He needed to push him away, he couldn't have him near him right now. He just wanted Eijirou to abandon him already! That way things would be easier for the both of them...
"And Bakugou is back, ladies and gentlemen" Kaminari sighed.
"Well, it was fun while it lasted"
"Don't be like that Kami" Kirishima muttered.
"Hey blasty! You gotta tell me where you get your make-up. Seriously, that stuff it amazing!" Ashido squealed, leaning onto his desk.
"I didn't know you were rich? I mean, how else can you afford such things?"
"Fuck off raccoon eyes! My old hag is a damn model, okay? We get that shit in bulk!" Katsuki hissed. It was true. Mitsuki Bakugou was a famous model in Japan, her skin flawless and forever young due to her quirk. If she taught her son anything, it would be make-up. He'd been practicing on it since he was a kid. He was dragged around to photo-shoots, being taught all the techniques and having to do his mother's make-up whenever she fired her own make-up artist, again. It was one of the few things Katsuki could do to please her...
"Wait, so you know how to apply it too?" Mina gasped, her eyes getting bigger in excitement.
"Why the hell would I have it otherwise?!" Bakugou snapped, trying to push her away. Damnit, this girl was persistent!
"Oh, let's make a deal" she smiled.
"You do my make-up, I give you the recipe for those chili chocolates. I know you asked Kirishima about them"
"I'm not wasting my stuff on your ugly face, raccoon eyes"
"You can use my make-up" she said, not even phased by the insult. Katsuki squinted his eyes, making sure she was serious and not just messing with him. He couldn't find a reason to deny her and he really wanted to make those chili chocolates himself.
"What's the occasion?"
"No occasion, I just wanna see how good you are" she shrugged. Bakugou groaned, glancing aside for a moment before looking back at her.
"Okay, whatever, but I want that fucking recipe, understood pinky?"
"Deal!" she squealed, happily clapping her hands.
"I can't believe he actually agreed to that..." Sero mumbled.
"Must really like those chocolates huh?"
Luckily all chatter died down soon enough as Aizawa rose from the floor, his yellow cocoon falling onto the ground as everyone scattered to their place. And so school started...

Risen
Note: Slight edits to early chapters (and removal of one chapter - previously chapter 2) have been made 2/2/21 The city, my city, had once been alive in a way that was hard to describe. Thriving, active, hopeful. Vibrant. But life, as I had come to learn, sometimes possesses only the most tenuous of grasps. Finally, in the end, it became my city - mine alone. I was, after all, the only one left. Worse, it was entirely my fault. There was red in my ledger that could never be wiped clean. Not while I still lived, anyway. This story follows Eran, a man who became the opposite of everything he had ever wanted to be; in a world where superpowers began to appear in a rare few, his lack of control over his own power relegated him to the role of a terrible villain - the Reaper, named so for the countless lives that he absorbed and made his own, each only furthering his deadly lack of control. Gone mad with guilt and isolation, he strove for a single heroic act - his own demise. Death was less permanent than he hoped. Centuries later, he woke to a changed world and in a body not his own. Unfortunately, his power came with him. Yet this time, things would be different. This time, he had a chance to bring it under control. He could never truly make up for the things he had done; he could never achieve redemption. That wouldn't stop him from trying to be a hero. A Cleric's Life for me.
This is a casually written story loosely based on TTRPG games like DnD and Pathfinder. The attempt of the story is to have a slow growth in power and comical set of characters who eventually grow close and set off for more serious adventures. There will be plenty of familiars and funny tales that don't involve combat. The intention is not to be a goody-two-shoes cleric story where nothing bad happens. The intention for this story was a slow paced grungy story where everything seemed great at first and things just kept getting worse. I learned how shitty of a story that is to write and honestly I am just not good enough to get the idea down. I plan on revisiting it later.
