《Toxic Thoughts》Chapter 4: Happiness?

"What the hell are all you morons looking at?"

Bakugou glared at the four idiots who were staring at him as he was spreading out the things he needed for the dinner he was going to cook.

"Whatcha making dude?" Kaminari asked curiously.

"That's none of your fucking business, dunce face"

"Aw, come on man. Let us know what we're eating tonight!" Kirishima laughed, making Bakugou's eyes widen for a moment.

"What?"

"Yeah, you're cooking for, like, half the class, right?" Mina asked, glancing over the ingredients.

"You're not using a recipe?"

"Only amateurs use recipes" Katsuki snapped, surprised they were still willing to eat what he was making. Weren't they disgusted by the fact he had touched it?

"So? What's on the menu tonight dude?" Sero asked. Bakugou frowned as he was met with questioning gazes and let out a long, annoyed sigh.

"Udon" he muttered, grabbing his knives.

"Now fuck off before I kill you!"

The four of them laughed as they ran off, amused by Bakugou's antics rather than afraid. Katsuki frowned, taking a breath before starting on the udon. He noticed half of the class was sitting in the living room, discussing something in hushed whispers like he wasn't supposed to hear it. It's probably about their plans for tomorrow...

Luckily they're doing it in the weekend so he has two days to just hide away in his room and sulk. Not like he wasn't planning on doing so anyway, but still...

"Stupid idiots..." he muttered underneath his breath while cooking, trying not to give them too much attention. Yet he couldn't help but feel a smile tug on his lips. They still wanted to eat his cooking... So maybe he wasn't so useless after all...

After the food was done, he took his own portion and left the rest in the kitchen, like he always did. He sat down alone at the table, the soft thud of his plate hitting the wood alarming the others that he was done with the food.

"Yeah! Dinner!" Denki cheered, shooting up and running towards the kitchen.

"This smells so good!" Ashido smiled, now standing next to the electric blonde.

They all sat down with him after taking a portion, Kirishima next to him and Kaminari on his other side, Ashido in front of him with Sero next to her.

"What the hell are you extra's doing?"

"Thanks for the food Bakugou!" they all said in sync before they started eating. Katsuki huffed, grumbling quietly to himself as he ate the udon. As long as they didn't annoy him too much, it couldn't hurt to let them sit here, could it?

He knew he was letting himself get closer, but he was unable to stop himself from doing so. It'll only cause his heart to break even more tomorrow anyway. So why does he do it? Why does he torture himself so much by being around them? By listening to their careless banter and silly jokes. Their small talk about the weather getting colder, about school getting harder. Acting like normal, regular high schoolers... He couldn't really express how he was feeling about all of this...

After dinner he went up to his room, leaving the dishes to the others as per their request. He locked the door behind him, like he always did. Sighing, he dragged a hand down his face, hovering over his chest as he clenched his shirt.

"Fuck..." he whispered to himself, groaning as he stomped over to his desk, pulling out his notebook to start writing down what he was feeling.

Floating

Like a feather in the wind

A leaf in the stream

Drifting away from reality

Peaceful

Without sorrow

Without knowing what will come

After the current turns

Falling

Into an endless blue void

Sinking

But not suffocating

Not knowing when the path will end

Nor if it will

But without worry

Knowing that everything is okay

Surrounded by light

Drifting away from suffering

From pain

To a destination unknown

Not knowing how to get there

How long it will take

Yet burning with desire

To get where the current flows

This feeling...

This journey...

Is this what they call...

Happiness?

Katsuki's breath hitched as he wrote down that last word. Fuck! No! No, no, no, no..! He didn't want it! He didn't want happiness! Not when he knew it could be thorn away at any given moment! If he'll allow himself to fall into this trap, he'll only get up hurting himself more than he already is...

"What are you doing to me..?" he choked out, grabbing onto his hair as he stared down at the ground.

Tears started rolling down his face silently as he breathing became louder, more shallow. He was getting too close to them... He needed to keep the distance somehow... He reminded himself of the surprise tomorrow, hoping it would be bad enough so he could push this feeling away. If she ever found out- No. She won't find out. Not if he can help it. Closing the book and putting it away in his desk with shaky hands before stumbling over to his bed, he fell down upon the soft fluffy blanket.

Unlike his harsh personality, this was smooth, soothing... A nice deep dark orange that always managed to make him feel more secure. Why is it that people feel safe under blankets? It's not like anyone that wants to hurt you is going to stop because of it. Yet it has this comforting warmth... Like a hug, perhaps? Katsuki wouldn't know. It had been such a long time he held someone in his arms...

He'd just been a child, Deku was crying again. He always cried, that stupid nerd. And Bakugou held him, hugged him, whispering soothing words. Why couldn't anyone do that for him? Hold him? Whisper words of encouragement? Telling him not to give up? It's simple, really. He doesn't deserve it. He's a jerk, a complete and utter shithead. A failure... Why would anyone want to hold him? Telling him comforting lies? It did sound appealing, yet it'll never happen.

Another sigh was drawn his lips, his hands roughly wiping away the tears. A shallow laugh escaped his throat, laughing with his petty life. The tears kept flowing and Bakugou ended up crying himself to sleep. He woke back up in the middle of the night, dried tears on his face. Annoyed and irritated by the feeling, he wiped it away. He reached out for his phone, the light burning his eyes even on the lowest brightness.

Ugh... He groaned, closing his eyes for a moment, knowing he wouldn't be able to sleep for the rest of the night anyway. So he crawled up, stumbling over to his balcony to let the fresh air hit his face. He pulled his curtain open, sliding the window-like door to the side and stepping out. His feet were wet instantly, a numbing coldness surrounding them. It took him a second to register the thin layer of snow on the ground.

He looked up, seeing light snow slowly fall down from the sky. The first snow of this winter season... Katsuki let a smile break through, too tired to care, too dark for anyone to see. Maybe, if there is enough snow, his classmates will go out and make snowmen or have a snowball fight? He'd always liked those as a kid... A small sigh left his lips as he closed his eyes, just feeling the snow fall on his skin.

After a few minutes, he returned to his dorm, not planning on catching a cold by standing outside like an idiot. Instead, he gathered his stuff and left his room, taking the stairs downstairs so he wouldn't wake anyone. This was the perfect time for him to take a bath without having to worry about people seeing his scars or injuries. He knew there were camera's tracking movement in the dormitory, but they had face recognition so the alarm shouldn't trigger.

Even if it ever had, Aizawa had never commented on it, so he was sure it was fine. He flicked on the light, hearing the vents start up in the background to make sure the room wouldn't get damp as the water started warming up. Bakugou undressed, folding up his clothes and placing it neatly on the table. After that he took a quick shower to get somewhat clean before entering the large common bath, letting his body sink into the water.

His cuts still stung a little, but they were getting older and the pain was fading. He closed his eyes, relaxing in the water. The looming doom of what will happen in the morning fell over him soon though. He wondered what the surprise was going to be... Whatever it was, he was already dreading it. He didn't know how long he was soaking in the water, humming a few songs that were stuck in his head.

He changed into clean clothes, ruffling his hair with his hands, letting a few tiny explosions loose to dry and spike up his hair again. He collected his dirty clothes and left the bathroom, turning off the light and taking the stairs back up to the top floor. He locked the door to his dorm behind him, dropping his dirty laundry in his laundry basket that was pushed into the corner of his wannabe bathroom.

He glanced at his phone, seeing it was a little over four. He groaned, flopping down in his desk chair, spinning around a few times before pulling his school drawer open and starting on some homework in advance. When he finished everything, it was around 7am. Maybe he could get some more shut eye before breakfast? He could try... And so he fell on his bed, closing his eyes and dozing off surprisingly soon.

Rapid knocking on his door woke him up, making him groan.

"What the hell do you want?!" he yelled, followed by a yawn.

"Sorry if I woke you up!" Kirishima's voice came from the other side.

"Can you open the door?"

Katsuki frowned, glaring at his phone to see it was 10:23. Huh, he slept more than he expected to... With a sigh, he heaved himself off the bed and swung open the door with a pissed off look.

Kirishima opened his mouth to say something, but as his eyes darted over Bakugou, his smile faltered. The ash blonde was suddenly hyperaware of how he was dressed. Loose black trousers and a tight black tank top. It made his arms visible. His cuts, his bruises, the old burns... All visible... Let alone the dark bags under his eyes. He shouldn't have opened the door! He should've applied his make-up ages ago!

Quickly, he wanted to close the door again, but Kirishima managed to get his foot in between there, holding it open.

"Dude, are you okay?" he asked on a worried tone, peaking in the room from the small opening.

"I'm fucking fine. What the hell do you want?" Katsuki repeated, glaring at the red head as he kept as much of his body out of view as possible.

"Uhm, I-I... I was wondering if you wanted to help me with math..." Eijirou mumbled. That's the excuse they came up with lat night.

"Me and Kami, actually. We're falling behind and you're so smart and all-"

"You two are just idiots for not getting it the first time" Bakugou hissed, making Kiri chuckle. He was glad that the angry blonde still had the same fire in his voice after what he just saw when the door opened.

Maybe it were old injuries? Maybe they were from extra training? He should ask Todoroki if they got injured a lot like that, just to be sure. He shouldn't confront Bakugou about it though, that would only make him mad.

"Can we count on you to beat it in our heads?" Kirishima asked, a little hopeful that their plan would actually work. Katsuki let out a huff.

"Give me 5 minutes to brush my teeth and get my book, you damn moron" he muttered, kicking Eijirou's foot out of the doorframe and shutting the door with a loud thud.

Kirishima bumped his fist up in the air as he cheered quietly at the success. He couldn't wait to show Bakugou the extensive healthy brunch they made for him! They knew he wouldn't eat anything with too much fat or sugar because he treats his body like a damn temple, so they had prepared for it! Fresh orange juice, a lot of fruit. But also fluffy pancakes, waffles and chocolate just in case he wanted that.

They spend a lot of time preparing it, wanting to serve a meal to Bakugou instead of the other way around to show they were grateful for what he did. To show they liked his cooking and appreciated it! Hopefully Bakugou would like it!
