《Cherry Scent》III. Coffee Catch-up

Girl, stop thinking about girls for a moment.
I took a nice warm shower and washed my hair, I looked through my closet.
I wanted to wear something that was summer appropriate but also age appropriate, I didn't need to get catcalled by weird people.
I was meeting up with Cora and Layla at a cafe downtown, although I didn't drink coffee on a regular basis, I still wanted to drink some to get energy.
After a moment of deciding an outfit, I changed and did my hair.
I ran downstairs and hugged my dad, he was finally awake.
It was only 12:36 PM, so it wasn't irregular for my father to wake up late during summer.
I grabbed my phone and keys, I kissed my father's cheek and left the house.
Cora, Layla and I chose to go separate for the reasons being that we got dressed and took a lot of time, so we thought it was best to go alone so we didn't have to rush.
As I closed the door to the house, I noticed Javon walk out of his, he was holding a dufflebag.
He noticed me and smiled, waving over.
I walked over to him with a soft smile.
"Hey Javon, heading out to the gym?"
I asked as I looked at his hands which were hidden by his gloves.
"Yeah, are you going on a date or something?"
He asked as he examined my outfit, I shook my head and smiled at me.
We spoke a bit more before his dad came out of his house, he was big and muscular.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't shaking in my boots right now, as he approached us my stomach turned.
"Hi, I'm DJ Walton. Javon's father and boxing coach."
His father introduced himself as he stuck his hand out, I shook his hand and smiled.

He wasn't as scary as he seemed so I managed to relax myself a bit before responding.
"Scarlett Delmonico, I'm your new neighbor."
I said happily, the conversation was cut short since my phone was blowing up with messages from Cora and Layla.
I said goodbye to the two and went on my way to the coffee shop.
As I walked in, the coffee aroma danced around, I inhaled the nostalgic scent and searched for a booth.
After walking around, I was waved over by my two close friends.
"Sup losers."
I greeted as I sat next to Layla, they both laughed and said hi to me.
A kind waiter came over to us, he had ice blue eyes and black hair.
"How may I take your order?"
"Iced coffee with light ice, creamer and please do not over sugar it."
Layla said sweetly, she always wanted coffee whenever but didn't want all the sugar that came with it.
Her order was always easiest to remember.
"I'll have a Carmel Frappe with extra Carmel please and thank you."
Cora said next, I was skimming through the menu.
It was coffee catch up that meant we only ordered coffee and talked about things we missed.
"Uhm, I'll have a Carmel Frappe as well but hold the ice and don't over sugar it either please."
I smiled as the waiter, whose name is Roger, wrote our orders.
He left the table and went to give the order to the people in the kitchen.
"So Scar, how are you feeling with all of this?"
Layla asked, 'all of this' was code word for the divorce and moving away from my childhood home and moving into the home next to my childhood friends.
I sighed and took a moment to answer it, I wasn't really sure how to feel about it.

"I'm not sure man, I mean I really like it here, I'm living next to a cute boy as well-"
I stopped my sentence when the waiter came back but he didn't have our order, perhaps he forgot what we ordered and came back to ask.
"I hope our order wasn't difficult to remember, we can write it down if you'd like."
Layla said kindly, she began to dig in her back pack for a pen and paper.
Layla was kind like that, she never wanted people to go through double trouble.
"No, no it's not that. Are you single?"
The waiter asked as he looked at her, I was quite uncomfortable.
The boy looked to be at least 17-19, either way he wasn't in our age range.
"She's our best friend, she doesn't go for strangers."
Cora answered, but that wasn't enough for the boy to leave.
It was getting quite infuriating actually.
"I'm sorry but could you please give us our order, I believe it's sitting on the counter."
I asked politely, no matter how mean or weird a person could get.
You always treat them with kindness, he nodded and left to the counter.
"Back to the literal boy next door, does he have a brother?"
Layla asked with a smirk dancing on her lips, I rolled my eyes playfully and laughed at her.
"Yeah, Javon Walton."
"Wait we live next to THEE Waltons?"
Cora asked as she looked up from her phone, she was looking at a girl's profile but I wasn't about to ask.
"Yeah, what's special about them?"
I asked cluelessly, I just moved here so bite me if I didn't know who these teenagers are.
"Javon is a boxer, gymnast and actor. He plays Ashtray in Euphoria."
Cora informed me, I didn't answer as Roger came back with our drinks, he didn't leave.
"You sure like this table a lot."
I said as I took a sip from my frappe and looked at him, his eyes were all over Layla.
I grimaced and shivered at the fact he was probably thinking weird things.
"I have two friends in the back."
"We're fourteen and fifteen."
Layla cut him short, quickly the boy left the table and didn't look back, causing all of us to erupt in laughter.
I left a tip and paid for our drinks as we got up and left.
"I played baseball for the first time in years today, for fun."
I said, Layla looked at me and smiled.
Many people would think that I was being an idiot for choosing not to play over boys but the things I heard was enough to make me run in front of a car if I was suicidal.
I was constantly being brought down and over sexualized.
"That's good, do you think Megan Fox is hot?"
Cora said as she was looking through photos of Megan Fox, if I didn't find this girl a girlfriend then I would have to suffer through all of this.
Girl, stop thinking about girls for a moment.
Layla said with a laugh, we went Layla's house and ran upstairs to her room.
We continued our conversation and watched Euphoria.
"I auditioned for Drew Molina, I'm hoping I get the job."
Layla said breaking the silence, Cora and I looked at each other and we hugged her.
Layla's passionate about being an actress, we always used to play pretend.
"You'll get the job, you just gotta believe!"
I said enthusiastically.
"Oh shut it SpongeBob."
Layla said making fun of what I said.
