《Drunk & Sober : IN LOVE》Chapter 32

1 year later
Finally senior year was about to end. The only events that were left were prom and our last semester.
I was shifting to London after high school graduation for my law studies. My dad had already talked to one of his business partners for my internship in the famous JP & Sons.
I was just left with a name sake interview and with the amount of hard work I have been doing to make my portfolio impressive, I am sure I won't face much trouble to be an intern there. On the other hand, Rex has decided to move to Boston for his higher studies.
And no doubt that Boston is the closest city to London, but we will still be apart from each other for 3 years to be precise. And during the past one year I have grown quite habituated of him.
I don't know how I am going to survive those three years of college without him by my side. There were some good colleges in London fulfilling his interest but he turned the options down because according to him 'we should stay away to learn more about oneself and what we truly want out of life' and I agreed with him because for a fact I knew that handling a relationship during college is a big challenge and it becomes truly difficult to devote your time to your boyfriend when you are trying to adjust yourself in a new place with new people and a whole new culture.
I was looking at some papers that held my ideas relating to the food drive for community food pantry which was to be held right after prom. Being the student council president, I was in charge to make a note of the budget allocation, fiscal planning and also to ensure communication between the staff and the student body.
I had to present these to the principal within an hour and I was still searching for some bills that I had no sight of but were entered in my tally sheet. I was tugging my hair in my hands when suddenly the door struck open and it revealed April.
"Hey, what are you doing alone in history classroom?", she asked while coming towards me. I took the binder in my hand and waved it towards her and she just nodded her head in response.
She then gave me a paper that was folded neatly. I raised an eyebrow but she just kept her mouth shut.
I unfolded the paper, almost uninterested in what was written inside and read aloud its contents.
A pile of words
Jackets of hordes
Take a quick look
In the place of the book.
"What sort of a game are you playing? I have to submit the report to the principal in an hour. We can do this later", I said her sounding irritated. She just stood there and didn't budge from her place for another 10 minutes.

After knowing her for a year, one thing I came to understand is that April can be pretty stubborn at times and maybe that's the reason why she is Rex's best friend as they both are the same in terms of this. I huffed before getting up from my seat while closing my binders and holding them closer to my chest.
"We will get done with whatever it is quickly, so that I can get back to my work. Okay?", I said while eyeing her. She passed me a big smile before saying, "So have you cracked it yet?"
I looked at the riddle on the paper again and said, "It's the library." We then went towards the library which was on the ground floor.
By the time I reached the library, I was breathing heavily. The librarian looked at me and passed me a sympathetic look.
She then pointed towards a boy whose face was hidden behind a book. I made my way hurriedly towards the boy and when I tapped him on his shoulder he kept the book in his lap and it was a familiar face.
"Hello my lady", Rey said while getting up from his seat. "Are you guys kidding me? Don't you'll want to study instead of playing some loser game?", I said while giving him the binders I was holding.
He took all the binders in one hand before putting his hand in his jean pocket and then he gave me another paper. I took it from his hand and opened it quickly. It read:
To solve this little fix
Liquids, solids, gases mix
Head to the place of some reaction
To further this puzzle transaction.
I quickly answered while looking at
Rey, "Science Lab." He patted me on the shoulder before we made our way to the science lab which was on the third floor.
April and Rey walked with their fingers interlinked with each other and I looked at them angrily as we climbed the stairs to reach the third floor. I was slowly finding interest in this riddle game no matter how stupid it was and how I had actually left some important work for this.
As soon as we reached the science lab, I opened the door finding Austin sitting there while wearing safety goggles. "I was waiting from such a long time guys", he said while removing the goggles.
"Aww! My baby", Rey answered mockingly and all four of us subsided into fits of laughter. He passed me a big grin before handing me a piece of paper.
I opened it excitedly and read the words:
There's a place nearby you'll want to meet
A portal place where people greet
Find me at the gatekeeper's home
Search this area with a fine toothed comb.

I looked at all three of them who were looking at me intently and took a deep sigh. "What place is this?", I said while putting my hands on my waist.
Austin shrugged and I tapped my index finger on my forehead pretending to be a focused thinker before screaming loudly causing April and Rey to jump a little. "It's the reception. But you'll could have given me this riddle when we were already on the first floor for the library. Now I will have to walk down again. Oh god! My legs are already paining", I said while pouting at them.
"I can pick you in my arms, honey", Austin said while winking at me. I punched him in the chest before sticking my tongue out at his words.
After literally dragging myself down the stairs, I finally reached the reception. I saw Stella sitting on one of the benches having a word with the reception lady, giving her tips to take care of her nails.
I lumped towards her and as soon as she saw me her eyes lit up. "Here", she said while giving me the paper that had me running all around the school.
I snatched it from her hand while scowling at her and she giggled looking at my misery. The next words were:
Caution is needed going this way
A tarmac place of bay bay bay
Now is the time to leave the car
If you leave from here you'll go far.
I pushed the paper in my jean pocket and repeated the word 'car' almost ten times before it finally struck my head. "The parking area", I said before running out of the reception.
That stupid game was testing my patience and I wanted to get done with it as soon as possible. I ran towards the parking area and saw the one black car that I was familiar with.
Alan stood next to it while he strolled through his phone. I waved at him while running to his car and on seeing me he removed his goggles and smiled at me, giving me his famous toothy grin.
Soon the four of them came walking towards us and on seeing Alan, Stella hugged him tightly. "I want the paper guys. Can you'll do this later?", I said while narrowing my eyebrows at my two best friends who were sticking to each other as if they had been separated for years.
Alan looked at me for a second before kissing his fiancé. I couldn't wait anymore and so I pushed my hands into his jean pockets which made him wiggle on his feet.
"What are you doing, crazy lady?", he said while jerking me away from him. He then took a neatly folded paper from his pocket and gave it to me before saying, "This is the last one."
I opened the paper almost immediately and read the words:
A court of all love
With balls from above
The way you must get
Is split with a net.
I jumped continuously while saying, "It is the tennis court, tennis court, tennis court!" They all laughed at me while I tried to bring a poetic effect to my words.
"Let's go then", Alan said while slipping his hand around Stella's waist. I took big steps to reach the tennis court which was behind the school building, so we literally had to cross the road to reach to the school first and then walk around the entire school to reach the tennis court.
As soon as I reached the tennis court, I met a girl whom I didn't really know and she motioned me to sit on the chair kept in the middle of the court. Just then the song 'MAKE YOU MINE' played in the background and I saw a cheerleading squad appear in the court from nowhere.
I was getting nervous as I knew I was the subject of attention here. The cheerleaders danced on the song that had become my favourite after Rex dedicated it to me last spring.
After a few minutes the song stopped and four cheerleaders stood in the court with cardboard banners in their hand. One by one they lifted the cardboards in the air to derive the word 'PROM'.
I looked at them in awe, tears welling in my eyes. Just then Rex entered the court with a cardboard banner in his hand.
When he turned it around there was a question mark on it. I gasped in surprise and stood up from the chair before running towards him.
He dropped the banner on the ground and took me in his arms while swirling me around. "Yes, yes, yes", I said while kissing him fiercly without the care of all my friends that were applauding and cheering from the distance.
Just then thousands of rose petals were thrown on us from above. I looked at the source and saw a helicopter doing the great work of making me feel special.
"How did you do this?", I asked him while I looked at the helicopter again as it threw the petals on us. He pointed towards Austin and said, "Turns out that Austin's elder brother is a pilot."
Austin saluted while looking at the helicopter and I hugged Rex before saying, "This is the best promposal ever!" He kissed me on the nose before replying, "You deserve the best baby. I love you!"
