《Drunk & Sober : IN LOVE》Chapter 24

We were all having breakfast together but my eyes moved to Rey and April who were both behaving a bit weird. Rebekah saw me noticing them and she squeezed my hand a bit while she signalled me to chill.
Just then Rey got up from his chair and he went over to April’s side. Everyone looked at them expectantly while he stood behind her chair and rested his hands on her shoulders.
She looked up at him and nodded at him. Rebekah took hold of my hand when she saw me getting tensed.
Rey looked at April one more time before saying, "I…umm sorry. We…we have decided to move in together. We have been looking at apartments for almost a week now and we finally found one that we would like to call home. I am going to sign the lease today and we just wanted you guys to know about this.” Everyone looked at them with a shocked look on their face.
Rebekah was the first one to get up from her seat and congratulate both of them. She hugged Rey while he told her how good it felt to have the both of us back.
Then Austin fist bumped Rey and jokingly said, "So you finally got someone to bear your stupid self. I hope she doesn’t leave you once she realizes what a nut cracked hooman you are!” Everyone congratulated them except me.
I just sat on the chair looking in front of me not knowing what to say. They are so serious about each other and April didn’t even bother to tell me about it.
They are so serious that they are literally moving in together. Like it is such a big thing for a couple to do that.
Does she really believe him enough to just shift her things into an apartment and stay with him? And what if one day he does something that breaks her heart into a million places and she can’t stand him anymore?
I am sure that she has spent all her savings into getting that place and she might not be left with anything considerate. What was she even thinking before taking such a big decision?
Has she thought about it enough? I don’t want her sabotaging her career and her life behind some stupid high school crush.
April looked at me impatiently, waiting for me to say something, say something positive to be precise. I looked at her with a betrayed expression and made my way upstairs to where I supposed was Rebekah’s room.
I sat on the bed shaking my legs nervously while I rested my head in my palms.

April had tears in her eyes when Rex left the room as if he was least interested in the big announcement that his best friend just made. I looked at her with a look of sympathy before making my way up to the room where Rex just took off.
As I opened the door it made a creaking sound that made Rex to look up. His eyes were blood red as if he was crying.
I sat beside him and urged him to look at me. “What’s the matter baby?”, I asked him while I placed my hand on his arm in an attempt to calm him a bit.
At this he just hugged me and wailed like a little boy who was refrained to play with his toys. He hugged me for a long time before looking at me and wiping his tears with the sleeve of his t-shirt.
“This was going on from a long time between them and she didn’t even bother to tell me. We had promised to never hide things from each other. And she is literally moving in with him. Like is this really happening? I really think she should have taken some time considering this decision, before acting upon it. It just feels as if she isn’t my best friend April anymore. Because my best friend would never hide things from me, she would never act so immature because of some mere crush who to the best of my knowledge will leave her the day he gets someone better or gets bored of her. They both are just acting in the heat of the moment and they will regret it.” Once he vented out his feelings he took a deep sigh and looked at me before looking out of the window.
I took his hands in mine and I passed him a small smile before saying, “Rex I know you are worried about her and there is nothing wrong in it. But April isn’t a kid anymore. She can deal with her own shit and she is capable enough to take her own decisions. You can’t mould her life anymore not when she has taken a stand for what she wants for the first time. You need to respect her choices and the least you can do for her is to be there for her to catch her if she falls or if she needs you to be by her side anymore. Everyone has a right to live life the way they want to, by their own choices so that they don’t regret life or don’t wish for things to be any different than the way they unfolded.” I had just completed with my speech when there was a soft knock on the door.

We both turned around to discover April standing there while she sobbed like a baby with a tissue in her hand. “May I?”, she asked standing meekly by the door.
I nodded at her to come inside while I looked at Rex one more time before making my way out.
I made my way towards the bed where he was sitting and quietly sat next to him. I folded my hands in my lap and looked at him with tears in my eyes.
“I am sorry”, I said to him while sniffing my nose in the tissue. He put an arm around my shoulder and scooted me closer to him and he tilted his head towards mine till our heads were touching each other.
“I know you should have been the first person to know this. Heck I should have discussed it with you. But it’s just that somewhere I knew you would deny and I wasn’t ready for it. I love him, Rex and I know he does too. I knew it would hurt you to hear that we are moving together but we really feel like we can make this work and I want to give it a try. I am sorry for being a terrible best friend and most importantly I am sorry for hurting you by being a hypocrite.” He looked at me with his blue eyes and said, “I am sorry for trying to control you every time. It was because of me that you didn’t feel comfortable to share it with me. Congratulations April. I hope you’ll stay happy always but just be a bit careful. And know that I am here for you always.”
We were all sitting together in the living room watching Titanic when Rebekah’s phone rang. She took her cell phone and went into the kitchen to receive the call.
Minutes later she returned with her laptop and placed it in front of the T.V. She signalled Austin to switch off the television and he scrunched an eyebrow at her before obeying her order.
“We need to face time Alan and Stella. They asked me if we were together and when I replied in the positive they asked me to do it right now”, she said while she was browsing on the laptop. After five minutes we got on the call with them.
Stella had a different glow on her face and she looked different. She looked genuinely happy.
She was sitting in Alan’s lap and they were so in love with each other that it brought a smile on my face to see them together. Talia asked her about the wedding they were attending in Santorini and to this the two love birds smiled at each other before Stella showed us her hand with a pretty diamond ring in her ring finger.
“What the fuck?”, Austin said before Stella and Alan threw their heads back in laughter. “This is not a good time to joke. We are already done with this surprise shit for today”, Talia said while she looked at Rey and April in a disgusted glare.
To this Stella finally spoke bringing an end to all the suspense. “Niggas I am engaged to this sweetheart here”, she screamed before kissing Alan to which all of us pretended to gag our throats.
“Hey you stole our spotlight!”, Rey exclaimed before placing a hand on his chest pretending to be hurt. April explained the newly engaged couple what his boyfriend meant by that statement while Rebekah brought a bottle of champagne from the kitchen.
“This calls for some champagne guys”, she yelled before shaking the bottle till the cork flew in the air and the white foam came splashing down. She filled glasses for all of us before sitting next to me.
“Ahem…Ahem”, Stella said dramatically before pointing at us. To this Rebekah moved closer to me and pecked me on the lips before saying, “Oh yes! I finally got him to be mine.”
I just blushed at her words before Talia spoke to Alan. “How the fuck did this happen but?”, she said while taking a sip from her champagne.
“You know, the place is perfect and when you have someone who loves you so much, you shouldn’t waste time. And so I asked her to marry me at the day of my cousin’s wedding and to my good luck she agreed.” We all congratulated them before Stella spoke again.
“Guys we are having an engagement party here in Santorini the next week. And we would love it if you guys can make it there on our big day. We will be sending formal invitations your way by today evening. Okay? We gotta go. See ya!” With this the screen went blank.
And all we could think about was what all surprises does this day has to offer us now.
