《Drunk & Sober : IN LOVE》Chapter 12

We climbed up the stairs opening a little door which led us inside the small wooden house. There was a mattress laid on the floor.
As we walked inside, the wooden floor made a creaking sound which scared me a bit. Rebekah sat on the floor after opening the small windows which allowed the cool breeze to come inside.
She patted at the empty space next to her signalling me to sit down. I sat down uncomfortably rolling my hands over my wet hair.
"So tell me about your family", I asked her in attempt to start a conversation. She adjusted herself uneasily as if I had asked the wrong question.
"Umm... I don't have anyone in my family except my grandma", she said while picking at the stray skin on the side of her index finger. "I am so sorry Becca. Do you want to talk about what happened?", I said feeling real stupid to bring that frown on such a lovely face.
She passed me a small smile before continuing, "My mom and dad met each other when they were in high school senior year. My mom was head over heels for my dad and on the day of prom she proposed him in front of the entire school. He said a yes and her life was a fairy tale since then. They were happily married. But 7 years back she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Things changed after that. My dad started seeing someone else and when things started getting ugly between my dad and his mistress he used to come home drunk and beat my already sick mom. I wasn't there to witness all this because after my mom got sick she sent me to live with my grandmother who stays in London. My mother died 3 years ago and now my dad is married to his mistress", she said wiping the tears that continuously fell on her cheeks. I couldn't see her being so vulnerable at this moment and ended up hugging her tightly.
She wept against my chest. By now curiosity took the best of me.
"Do you know where your dad stays?", I again asked her while drawing circles with my thumb on her back in an attempt to relax her. "I don't care if he is dead or alive. He never attempted to know about my whereabouts since my mom died. He didn't even come to my mom's funeral for crying out loud. I hate him for being such a selfish prick", she said while grabbing the water bottle from the table.

"Hey, stop crying. Whatever happened, it's done", I said while wiping away the stray tear on her left cheek. "By the way how is this house so well maintained?", I said while noticing the clean row of water bottles and some packed food on the table.
"I have appointed someone who cleans it regularly. This is a wood house Rex. It needs to be taken care of if you don't want it to be attacked by bedbugs", she said while getting up from the floor and adjusting the hem of her tshirt. "Are you ready to leave? It is already 2:00 and we have school tomorrow", she said while tearing open one of the packaged food.
"Ahh... Yes. Let's go", I said although I didn't feel like going back to the dorms.
We reached campus by 2:30 and after dropping me off to my dorm room she left to go home. I smiled stupidly while thinking of the wonderful moments that I experienced with the most unexpected person.
I laid on my bed, my eyes wide open with not the slightest tinge of sleep in them. I rolled uncomfortably on my bed not able to sleep.
At last I took my phone and typed a message with my shaky fingers. I pressed the backspace thinking how clingy I would sound to her.
Just then my phone buzzed. It was a message from her.
I sat up on my bed excitedly.
The message read:
Thankyou for starting anew with whatever it is between us. I really had a nice time with you today. Meet you in class. And I miss you already. C ya! Xoxo!!
-Becs
I thought for a minute about what should be my reply to her. I then texted her back repeating the message in my head.
"Thanks to you for showing me your escape from this world and for trusting me enough to share your biggest nightmare with me. Meet you soon. Bye! And I miss you too!"
The next few days were too good to be true. I used to spend the major part of my days with her.
She used to accompany me to the library allowing me to study for some time and once the library would close we used to sneak behind the wooden shelves for some time dictating the lines of our favourite classic love stories to each other. I was afraid at first of being caught but gradually it became just fine.

She used to sit with me in my lectures while missing her own. During lunch break April and I would sit with the 6-Pack.
Everything between Rey and April was going fine and she never seemed so happy to me before, the way she was now. She would keep talking about how good Rey is, for hours without getting tired of it.
After school hours were over, Becca and I used to hang around in my room along with Austin, Rey and April. Things finally seemed to be bearable between Austin and me.
Unlike the previous times, he was now kind to me. And obviously the reason is Rebekah.
She had a small fight once with Austin while he tried to bully me again. Rebakah clearly warned him to keep his paws off me.
Since then he barely talks to me. But it's good not keeping any contact at all then to be mocked.
Rebekah took me to all her favourite places including some small french cafes in the city, to some amazing pubs with the best music and also to play lazor tag with her.
I was attending my psychology class when suddenly there was an announcement by the principal saying that he wanted me to come in his office after class. I was confused as to why does he wants to see me.
Regardless of all my questions I made my way to his office after class. I knocked on the door softly before he ordered me to come in.
I took a seat in front of him too nervous to even look at him in the eye. "Being one of our most capable students who is admitted to St. Vincent on scholarship basis your results surely do speak otherwise. You missed your Economics project due date and you have been spotted sneaking around in the library with Rebekah Williams. Your teachers have also reported that you aren't that attentive and responsive in class as you once were. Is there any problem Mr. Rex that is keeping you from devoting your 100% to your studies?", the principal asked giving me a sharp glare.
I was too disappointed to receive a complaint against me, the one who was previously just called in the principals office to either receive recognition for my good grades or trophies or medals for my good performance. I knew for a fact that the peons in the school were troubled because of Rebekah and I sneaking in the library and they had been searching for the responsible students from a long time but who could be so kiddish to actually complain to the principal about this.
Pushing my detective side to the back of my mind I cleared my throat before answering, "I am really sorry sir. I have just been a bit distracted these past days. I promise to submit my pending assignment tomorrow itself and apologize to the concerned teachers for not being that attentive in class." The principal just nodded at my response and dismissed me.
I was walking through the campus making my way to my room after the last lecture deep in thought regarding how I had actually diverted from my real intentions to come to St. Vincent. I was never the one to break rules let alone sneaking illegally in the library.
And all of this happened because of my increasing friendship with Rebakah. I was easily perplexed by her and it was clearly not doing me any good.
My grades were decreasing, my teachers had complaints against me and being a person who always completed his work on time, I missed my submission date this time. This wasn't me.
I would never be this irresponsible regarding my work. I shouldn't forget my struggle to get into St. Vincent behind some girl.
I was truly distressed by myself.
I saw Rebekah and Rex leaving the library while holding each others hands and running in the corridors while the peon ran after them begging them to stop. As they made their way out of the school, the peon, clearly failing in his mission to catch hold of them sat on one of the chairs breathing heavily.
I went to him and offered him a bottle of water. "It's Rebekah Williams and Rex Mitchell", I said while looking at the way where they went running.
He looked at me with a confused look on his face and scrunched his eyebrows trying to understand what I meant. "The students whom you were running after. Their names are Rebekah Williams and Rex Mitchell", I said before making my way back into the campus.
I knew that my work was done here. I had informed the names to the peon and now he will do the rest for me.
I had a winning smirk on my face the rest of the day.
