《Allea》forty-five

My hands reached for his jacket, straightening it a little, I raised my eyes to look into his blue ones and urged, "Just don't wander off here and there, okay?"

Bobbing his head up and down cutely, he stood straight and stared at me quietly. Seeing him being so obedient, my hand habitually moved to ruffle his hair. To which Kai, quickly bent side-way and dodged my hand, while reminding me loudly, "Don't! I spent a long time styling them!"

Seeing his action, a smile spread over my lips, "I can't see it though," teasing him I shrugged. Narrowing his eyes toward me, his hands moved toward his hair and started adjusting them. With a light smile, I added, "In fact, they look more messy than usual."

His actions paused as he once again looked at me and shaking his head, calmly added, "That's the style."

"Oh..."

Seeing that I was no longer attempting to ruffle his hair, he relaxed a little and started looked while exclaiming that Jackson was still not out of his room. We are waiting for Jackson so we could leave for Nicholas Salvadge's mansion to attend the dinner. Seeing that there were no traces of Jackson to make his appearance, excusing himself, Kai ran toward Jackson's room to ask how much more time does he need.

My eyes followed Kai until he was out of sight, now that Kai's has begun to grow out of his soft features, he sure looks handsome and a little bigger in his jacket over a royal blue tee-shirt (with graphic designing on its front) and jeans. To keep it a little casual, I'm wearing an ivory satin (cowl neck) camisole tucked inside straight olive shade pants, held together by a darker shade belt, along with my similar olive coat, which I was not wearing yet, simply draped on my shoulder (with hair left open, with minimal makeup and accessories).

In between these random thoughts, my gaze moved toward the wristwatch I was wearing, seeing the time nearing eight in the evening, a little frown settled on my face. We probably will be the last one to reach there, just because of Jackson's laziness. Well, it's not my headache, he's the one who promised Mr. Salvadge. Recalling the night he asked Kai whether he wants to go or not the first thing Kai did, was to look at me. I didn't know what he was seeking —either my approval or the fact that I was unhappy over this or not. When I didn't express or said anything he directly told Jackson to just ask me.

I agreed, because what Jackson said was true, I have to start somewhere, to show Kai into the society, to help him familiarize himself and show what this side of the world holds. Although it's a little difficult to settle my heart, I also know I can't always hold Kai back because of my restrained thoughts. He has to face this world, that I fear is only capable of harming him, and I still have a long way of making my brother someone who can face anything, but I can just hope that these small steps will aid him in his growth.

Shortly I saw Kai coming back with a smile, behind him was Jackson dressed in a navy shade tuxedo, his hands were still busy fixing his tie, with a scowling face he was grumbling something under his breath.

As Kai reached me, with a failed attempt of suppressing his smile, he enunciated, "Jackson forgot how to wear a tie! So, he was watching tutorials."

No wonder he wasted so much time, nodding my head, with now Jackson here, I suggested to both of them, "Hm, let's go then."

Saying that I turned, and walked out of the mansion, the cars were ready by the main gate, taking the key from the driver of our car, I entered it. In the rearview mirror, my gaze momentarily flickered toward the SUV of guards, and as I was setting the GPS to Salvadge Mansion, Jackson and Kai also entered the car. When they settled, starting the car, we began the way toward our destination.

Perceiving the movements beside me, my gaze flickered toward Jackson's scowling face. He adjusted the iPhone on his lap but as the car started he was facing difficulty in shifting his gaze from the screen and the tie he was fumbling with. After a second, I heard Jackson sighing in frustration and I could also hear Kai's vain attempt of muffling his laughter.

Shifting my focus wholly toward the road, I offhandedly shrugged along with my comment, "If it's bothering you, just don't wear it."

"I also suggested the same but as per Jackson, that doesn't go well with his whole look." Seated on the backseat, Kai chimed in.

Jackson ignored our remarks and still kept his focus on adjusting his tie. One after another we heard Jackson sigh of a failed attempt. Kai kept on giggling even I couldn't help the smile, seeing laughing at him Jackson from then on, with a sigh, also added, 'useless brats.' Finally, when Kai had enough, he opted to help Jackson with his struggle, taking the phone from him and playing the tutorial as Kai continued to advise and Jackson followed his steps.

Although my eyes were on the road in front of me, their voices were clear in my ear. I couldn't help the stretch of my smile after noticing their corporation, and also added with a playful tone, "You sure have started forgetting a lot of things, seems like old age's hitting you hard."

Jackson's actions paused, and a light laugh escaped Kai's lips as he too agreed with me. I could feel Jackson's gaze narrowing on my side and for the first time, instead of directly scolding me, Jackson's voice turned a little defensive, "I used to wear a tie every day, you think I don't know how to tie it? It's just I lost my practice," with a cold humph, he finally tugged the perfect tie inside his jacket with a satisfied expression visible on his face. Still, giving me a peripheral glance he grouched, "Brat."

Instead of responding to him, my eyes moved toward the rearview mirror, and for a second my gaze met Kai's and I ingeniously nodded toward him. Getting the meaning, I heard him say in a flattering tone, "We know, you're amazing Uncle!"

The instant Jackson heard the word 'uncle', his face twisted in a sour expression. I know he doesn't scold Kai, so, he just turned to look straight at him and accused, "You sure are her brother."

Though I was not seeing, I know Kai must be smiling and nodding his head like a fool, not afraid that Jackson will take offense because he never does. I'm quite intrigued by what goes within Kai's tiny brain because I have noticed through years whenever someone calls him my brother, I or he introduced ourselves as such to others, a goofy smile sneaks upon his face and he even looks a little proud. Thinking about his expression, my gaze once again flickered toward his face through the mirror, and yeah, I was right. Similar smile, the glint in his eyes, and proud-goofy smile.

Shaking my head inwardly, I sighed insignificantly, such a fool.

Soon the topic from tantalizing each other turn toward where we were going, and Jackson continued to give Kai about what to expect if someone asks something how to respond and how to approach. Seeing that I was not adding anything, Jackson while telling about Mr. Salvadge's business success, turned toward me, "Brat, don't' start talking about business out of nowhere, no reason to shower your useless information on others." Jackosn mockingly directed his words of advice toward me. I know he's just saying because he knows too well that where people of the same profession gather, it's impossible to not talk about their common interest, no matter how private the gathering is. I'm sure, even Jackson would do the same.

Instead of keeping my silence, I commented back, "And you, don't start eating a lot, embarrassing Kai and I."

I don't know what to think of this, I solemnly don't want to go to such a private gathering but I also have no feelings of repulsiveness, for me, this feels like another business meeting. Although, I know the rumor that Salvadge mansion has one of the worlds' renowned chefs, which is the partial reason Jackson accepted the invitation but he loathes such gatherings more than me, and it's only his regard for Mr. Salvadge that truly made him agree. In the beginnings of Allgaier Corporation, if not for the big name like Salvage buying the biggest portion of shares, others would have not taken the initiative to invest in the company.

"Then you two be prepared to be embarrassed, or why else would I go there if not for the cuisine."

I smiled a little at his words, I'm not aware of the reason but Jackson seems in a pretty good mood, probably with the thought of eating delicious food.

Passing the approximately forty-minute rides in our random words, soon we reached in front of the magnificent gates of the Salvadge Mansion. Identifying ourselves to the security, they let us in, not elongating the check-ups. I know this was Jackson's first time inside the area of the mansion, and Kai was also new, both of their eyes were trained of the classic medieval style mansion stood magnificently in front of us. Guided by the guards, we reached the entrance to the inside different from the night of the party.

When I halted the car, both Kai and Jackson also followed out with me and we stepped forward to enter the mansion.
