《Hex [h.s]》Chapter Eighty

"You know, I was scared when I died. Thought that hell was a terrible place and that heaven is the real deal. But when I was made the devil's right-hand, things started to look different." He grinned, rubbing his hand on Lucinda's arm. "Below the devil, I am more powerful than you are. Better than you are. But that wasn't enough. You were still around even after I died. Now, I'm going to make sure you won't become human once more and will rot in hell for eternity!"
"Like I would let that happen!"
"So, what's it going to be Styles?" Chief yelled at me with malicious eyes and a huge grin. "Fight me and lose the girl?" I inhaled sharply when he pointed a sharp knife on her neck. "Or, give up on being human and the girl will live."
Niall turned to me. "No, Harry. Don't listen to that moron's words." I held up a hand, silencing him.
"When I am standing in front of him, grab Lucinda and run." At the implication of my words, Niall grabbed my arm before I could even take a step forward.
"Don't do this Harry. Let's find another way. You don't have to do this." He whispered fervently, eyes wildly staring at me.
"I'm waiting Styles!"
I took his hand off my arm and smirk. "Don't worry about me, Horan." Seeing the shocked look in his eyes, I swallowed and walked towards the chief. The reason why I am a monster. The reason why my life is ruined. The reason why this town is miserable. I narrowed my eyes at the real evil man to ever step on earth. The devil himself. Chief's lips broke into a wide smile and laughed hard as I walked up to him slowly. Lucinda stirred and opened her eyes. Those warm brown eyes that sparkle whenever she's happy and dark when she's angry. Right now, her eyes glossed with tears, face full of emotion as I stood next to her.
"Harry. What are you doing?"She whispered.
I smiled in reassurance. "Don't worry." Facing the devil, I frowned at him. "Release her now."
Niall suddenly appeared in a puff of smoke in front of Lucinda and whisked her away. Away from harm's way. I look back to see her already standing behind my men, staring at me wistfully.
"You are really hopeless, Harry." The chief smirked and motioned for me to kneel. I begrudgingly did as I was told and kneel with a clenched jaw. As if he already succeeded, the Chief laughed diabolically. The moron. The bastard. The son of a bitch! Even if I ran out of cursed words, nothing would match to this devil. The real evil.
"You know Harry, if you really want to become human, just give the girl back to us." His sudden suggestion made me look up at him in surprise. Where's he going with this? The Chief smirked. "Ah, I see your interest has peaked. Let me tell you something Styles, who do you really think is the last Smith?"
My gaze flickered to Grace whose smile went wider. "You thought wrong Styles. It's not me."
"You thought wrong Styles. It's not me."
I glared at the lying bitch. Who would believe her? "She's the real Smith." I mumbled under my breath which caught Niall's attention. His face grim. "Lucinda, I don't think she's lying." His sudden statement made my jaw drop in surprise. "W-what? How do you know?"

"When a demon lies, a fellow demon could tell. This woman, however, is not lying."
I averted my gaze to the Chief and Harry. If looks could only kill, the Chief would've died a few seconds ago. Harry's dark and angry glare was enough to kill a thousand men. I sucked in a sharp breath when the Chief's steely eyes landed on me.
I placed a hand over my heart and stared at the Chief wide eyed. No. No. I-I... I can't be.
"Daughter of Elyse Smith and Rey Carter. Lucinda Mackenzie, or should I say, Eve Carter, is the last Smith."
Harry went stiff before turning around to face me. The betrayed face he wore made my vision blurry, tears rolling down my cheeks. I shook my head hard, "No. No, he's lying!" This man couldn't possibly fill Harry's mind with lies!
"If you want to be human," The Chief continued with a grin that matched a sadistic person's. "You better kill that girl."
I clutched my heart in pain when Harry narrowed his eyes at me. "Harry." I whispered with a pained expression.
"If I become human by killing her, what's stopping me?"
Niall couldn't do anything or even respond as Harry suddenly appeared in front of me. The force of his hand wrapping around my neck was enough to knock me back, away from them. The heat around the area was unbearable, flames licking my skin and I felt sweat rolling down my forehead.
"Harry..." I managed to squeak out as the grip he had on my throat grew tighter. "Don't... d-do this..." The Chief went near and clapped his hands. "Well done, Harry. Well done." I felt sick to the stomach when the evil man grinned at me. "Too bad you didn't meet your sister. I preferred her over you, but I guess you have to do." I raised an eyebrow at him in confusion. I have a sister?
"Kill her Styles." I stared at Harry with a shocked expression, silently begging him not to. "Kill her now. Become human and I will allow you to rule beside me."
"Harry... Please." I whispered and touched his cheek. He averted his gaze from the evil man to me. Black eyes void of any emotion went back to their normal nature. Harry smiled softly and his grip on my throat loosen.
"Don't worry. Once this is all finished, we'll go home."
Before I knew it, he was gone and was choking the Chief. The man fumbled and stared at Harry in horror. With the long black knife that Harry took out of his coat, he stabbed it into the Chief's arm. The man only let out a laugh, the wound healing quickly. "You really are full of surprises, Styles. Too bad you're going to die."
"I don't care. If you're dead, I can die in peace."
Both battled. The evil and the cursed. I winced when Harry let out a groan in pain when the Chief kicked him in the stomach. You can do it Harry. I believe I you.
"You bitch." I narrowed my eyes before turning to see Grace. She grinned and bent down to a fighting stance. "You should die, Lucinda. You'll only suffer if you don't."
"Lucinda!" I looked up to see a gun tossed at me, catching it. I gave Niall a quick smile and aimed the gun at the grinning witch. "Don't decide my future, you bitch." That seemed to agitate her. Grace ran to me, fists aiming my face. I dodged her hits and pulled the trigger, missing her body a few inches. I bit my lip and aimed at her once again. I can't afford to lose.

"Your plan was excellent, but a bit harsh. You really fooled me Styles."
"Well, I guess you have to fool your friends to fool your enemy."
I gasped in surprise when Grace neared me and kicked the gun off my hand. Her hands landing a punch on my face. I fell back on the ground and spit the blood out of my mouth. "Is that all you got?" I taunted and stood up, eyeing the gun a few feet away. If I could only reach that and end this fight as soon as possible.
"I'll end you." She promised and took out a knife strapped to her thigh. The blade reflecting the embers that seem to consume the whole town. The whole place turning to hell. I circled around her, waiting for the right time to grab the gun.
"Do you actually think you could go and escape this place unscathed?" Grace grinned, licking her lips. "If I kill you, I could only imagine how much pain you would feel once I send you hell. This knife is cursed. Cursed to cause the person suffering. You'll die slowly and painfully. Then, you'll rot in hell."
I smirked. "Easy for you to say. Sadly, you're going there first." I slid down and grab the gun. Grace let out a cry and lifted her knife. It was quick. Fleeting. Grace, lips parted, fell to the ground. Blood trickled down her head. Eyes wide as she stared up at the sky. I winced and looked down to see her knife deep in my stomach. That bitch. I let out a hiss and pulled the knife out. My own blood oozing out of the wound.
I squinted and applied pressure, my hand stained by blood. My eyes fell on the battle going on, Niall leading Harry's men to victory. The Chief's men losing. Turning my head to Harry and the Chief, I watched as they glared at each other. Harry's left arm looked limp, as if it was broken.
"Just give up now, Styles." The Chief grinned and pulled out his own weapon. The blade glinting at Harry, promising death. Seeing it, Harry took out his own blade, pointing it at the Chief.
"You know I'll never back out on my word."
Both charged at each other. Blades aiming at the opponent's heart. I sucked in a breath. There were no last words. Just the sound of a blade entering a chest. Blood splattering everywhere. The lifeless Chief fell to the floor. Harry's blade deep in the Chief's chest. He gave a smile at Harry. Cracks appearing across his face. "At least I die with my honor and pride. Now, you cursed man. The very Hex of this world. You will suffer forever." His body crumbled, turned to black ashes before being blown away.
It was over.
I let out a sigh in relief and took the hand Harry held out. "T-thanks."
"You alright?" I nodded and winced, clutching my wound. Harry looked down and shook his head. "Even at the face of death, you still lie. Come on, let's get that treated."
"Harry, I have something to tell you." I mumbled. After counting the days, I noticed I didn't get the monthly visit I was supposed to have. The continuous vomiting in the morning confirmed my thoughts.
"What is i- "
The ground beneath us began to shake, it made me panic. "What's happening?" I yelled as the ground cracked, exposing lava underneath. Harry gritted his teeth, "Come on! We have to get out of here!" With Harry guiding me, I watch as the whole town was eaten by fire. The grounds cracking open, swallowing the buildings whole.
"Harry! Here!" Niall waved as Zayn stood by his side. I let out a breath of relief seeing them. We were going to make it out of here. We were going to survive.
"Lucinda!"
I let out a gasp, hearing my Dad's voice. "Dad?" I didn't think and ran, determined to let him escape.
"Lucinda! No!" Harry screamed after me but was stopped by one of the Chief's men, challenging him. I didn't bother turning back even as the sound of blades reached my ears.
I was back in the burning town, looking for my parents. Where are they? "Mom!? Dad?! Where are you?!" I yelled and avoided a burning branch that fell.
"We're over here!" Dad yelled, protecting his wife. I rushed to them and helped them loosen their bounds off. "We have to get out of here." I told them as we ran back to where Harry is. We must make it. We must live! Even as the ground cracked open below us, I went on. Ignoring the pain I'm feeling in my abdomen.
"Lucinda! Look out!"
Dad's warning didn't reach my ears in time as I fell. I closed my eyes and waited for my body to be engulfed by lava. But it never came. I glanced up to see Dad holding my hand, trying to hoist me up. "Hang on Lucy, we will get you out of there." He began to pull me up. I gripped the edge with my free hand, helping myself up.
"H-help me D-ad." I stammered in fear, feeling the flames tickling my feet. It felt like the lava was trying to reach me. Pull me down and eat me. "I-I'm scared."
Dad grinned, "Don't sweat it kiddo. I'll save y- "
He let out a loud groan much to my surprise. Before I knew it, he let go of my hand and his body fell to the lava. I let out a scream and tried to reach for him. Too late, his body disappeared. Tears wet my cheeks as I cried out for him. "Dad! No! Dad!"
"You..." I let out a shaky breath and looked up to see my own Mother holding a pipe. It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what she did with it and what she plans to do with it now. "You ruined everything. You ruined my life! I knew I should've killed you the moment I saw you! You will die!" She lifted the pipe up.
Thinking fast, I pulled her leg and dragged her down. Before I knew it, she was holding on to my leg, determined not to be swallowed by the flames. "L-let go of me!" I screamed as I try to shake her off.
She laughed. "If I go down. You go down with me!"
Kicking her face, her grip began to loosen. "Let go!" With one kick, I send her down, screaming raw fear. Mom, I'm sorry. I swallowed my guilt and hoisted myself up. Biting back the pain. I must get out of here. Wait for me Harry.
"Harry! We must leave! This place is going to disappear soon!" Niall yelled. But no. I can't leave her. I can't leave Lucinda. I felt my body go weak. I looked up to the sky to see the moon slowly turning back to its normal form. If the red moon is gone, it's all over.
"Let's wait. I can't leave her behind!" I yelled. Waiting. Waiting for her to come out of the burning flames and I'll welcome her to my arms. And we could go home.
I felt myself going dizzy, but I held my pain back. I felt my body go cold once the moon was only a few seconds from being back to normal. That's when I felt it. The familiar tug in my heart. My eyes widen before I fell to the floor. The moon now back to its normal color. Niall's cries slowly becoming incoherent as I drifted to unconsciousness.

Zeroth Knight re: Dawn
Isekai, fantasy, with the core themes of Identity and Fate. Story contains a, mostly, lesbian cast. Updated twice a day. Evangeline Sayagawa makes the ultimate choice at the cost of the ultimate sacrifice: She decides to leave her world that she fought so hard to return to, and return to Arsea in hopes of saving everyone. Little was she aware of just how bad things had gotten. The world she was returning to was cast into chaos and on the precipice of being destroyed. She awakens in this new kind of Arsea, after having witness the end of a dear friend. The world now belonged to the monstrosities of old, the Beta, and their corrupted human warriors, the Eld. With her fake identity, that which defined her in this world, being stripped from her, she now has to navigate a darkness in which not even the women she loves recognize her. This is book 2 of the Evangeline Sayagawa "Zeroth Knight" story, with book 1 being found here. The first "chapter" posted here is a hyper-condensed version of volume/book 1, in case anyone needs a generalized refresher of events, or for those who wish to start with this book instead as it is faster paced and more action-packed than the first one. Suffice to say, but most of the details from book 1 are lost by doing this; however, enough of the more-important information is present to allow one to understand the general idea of what is going on. This book features a mostly lesbian cast and deals more so with fate and crises of identity more than anything else. However, there is much more action in this one than any of my other stories thus far and brings about the end of Evangeline Sayagawa's story arch... sort of. I have another story up, a short story drama with light yuri and supernatural themes: "Escape The KNIGHT" Share the story if you think it's good. And please rate some stars and leave reviews guys. It will help encourage other people to take a chance with the story and get to know this wonderful journey with us. Also, a friend has made a Discord for the "Zeroth Universe" if anyone wants to join and hang out to talk about the stories, theories, or just general fun chats with us! https://discord.gg/f3Bc4TR Follow me on Twitter @Ozefen0 to stay up to date on my stories and what have you.
