《Hex [h.s]》Chapter Seventy-one

The thought of Harry ignoring me for a whole week sounded absurd to me. But, sadly it is what he's doing as of this moment. I tried to talk to him after that 'weird' scenario that happened a few days ago, but he just continued to shut me out. Of course, if I was him, I would feel strange at the image of my girlfriend sucking my blood through my lips. Hold up, am I even his girlfriend? We are not even friends, sure we're not trying to kill each other like we wanted to back then, but that doesn't mean we have something. Something that is burning between us.

Forget about it Lucinda!

I couldn't help but huff, Harry, out of all people, is ignoring me. I should be celebrating that he has finally left me alone. I should be partying at this moment, rejoicing that he has finally left me all alone. But that would be my former self. The one who first met Harry and called him a psychopathic demon who only wreck havoc into my life. Still is.

My views and opinions on him has, miraculously, drastically changed for the past few months of knowing him. The real Harry Styles. I let out another breath as I went down the stairs. These past days has been...hectic. Different kinds of people come in and out of the house to either talk to Harry or inform him about their progress. The question is, what are they busy about? What progress are they talking about?

Even Grace refuse to tell me so, usually she is the one telling me what Harry is up to. Now I have to find out things for myself. Approaching Grace, who is currently hiding behind the wall, I tapped her shoulder. She let out a soft gasp, turning around sharply to face me before heaving a sigh of relief. "You scared me Lucinda!" Ironic, I should be the one scared. Talking to a soul eater is not a normal thing.

"What are they up to Grace?" I questioned, raising an eyebrow at the men who are listening to Harry giving out orders. Unlike yesterday, Harry went off and didn't came back until this morning. I guess he's hosting the meeting here at the mansion. "Beats me, Zayn told me I wasn't needed but I just felt the urge to listen." She answered, scratching her arm.

"Are you okay?" I ask at the girl's strange behavior. These past few days, she has always been, itching. If she is not scratching her arm, she's either scratching her neck or head. Do soul eaters even get allergies? Grace nodded, "Yeah. An ant just bit me, but it's okay now. I took care of it. What about you? You're losing weight every time I see you."

"I do exercises," I lied through my teeth, hoping she would buy it since she doesn't really go inside me and Harry's room. You really suck at lying Lucinda. "I see," Grace mumbled, much to my surprise that she bought my lie. "Well, just don't overwork yourself okay? Being fit is just fine, too much is not healthy." Wow, I didn't know I'm a good liar.

"I'll keep that in mind."

"Grace," Zayn called, gesturing for his girlfriend to join him. "Excuse me," Grace mumbled and head off to be with Zayn. I pursed my lips and folded my arms across my chest as I watched them quietly. Their faces solemn and attention only on Harry. "I won't wait for another ten years or a month! I want the last one to be found! I want this curse to end before that blood moon comes!"

Blood moon?

My eyes widen slowly, realizing this is probably what the residents here warned me about at the mall. Reminiscing the past seemed like watching a horror film that came to life. It was horrifying. I stepped forward to hear more, unable to tear my gaze from Harry who looked absolutely furious at one of his men. "I will not tell you this again, once you apprehend him or her, bring them to me right away. No ifs or buts. I should be the one to kill, not you or your uncle. Am I understood?"

"Yes Sir."

Harry nod, "Good, this meeting is dismissed." And just like that, everyone disappeared like thin smoke, others flew out if the house. I guess that's one of the perks of being a ghost, you can travel anywhere and anytime. Clearing my throat to catch Harry's attention, he sharply turned to face me, eyebrows furrowed. "What?" He snapped and I frowned at him. "I just wanted to talk."

"Well, I have no time for that. Some other time." He grumbled and was about to walk away when I grabbed his arm preventing him to do so. "No, I want to talk. Right now." Growling, he ran a hand through his long curly hair before narrowing his green eyes at me in irritation. "What do you even want to talk about Lucinda?"

"I want to talk about the blood moon." That obviously peaked his interest. "What about it?" He inquired, and I knew I had to tell him. "I heard it, from those people I met at the mall a few months ago. The first time I came here. There were women, telling me that someone would live again when the blood moon is up."

"Wait a minute, women you say? Residents of this town?"

I nodded, "Yes. It obviously has no meaning to me. I thought it was just some kind of prank, until you guys decided to bring it up in your little meeting that I couldn't help but be interested in." Crossing his arms in his chest, he raised an eyebrow at me. "It is not some kind of prank. And I have to say, those women are probably in my reign. How could they know about the red moon when nobody in this town is actually living."

"What? That doesn't make any sense, Harry. What do you mean by 'nobody in this town is actually living'? Are you saying everyone is dead as we speak?" If he actually killed all the population of this town, I wouldn't be surprised.

Lips in a tight line, he turned his back to me for a brief moment before facing me once again. "Even if I tell you, you wouldn't believe it." Really? He's talking about what's true and what is not? "Harry, in case you have forgotten. I have nothing to do but believe it, I mean, my world is already f.ucking messed up at the moment with all the demon-monster stuff happening around. Nothing is normal for me anymore. So you better tell me."

"The people that are in this town, aside from us and other living human beings, are nothing more but mere spirits."

Spirits? Now that's a first. I was expecting that they are like zombies or something. "Spirits? But what about those other civilians that come to this town? Are they allowed to leave this town?"

"Just like you and your family, those who comes here, stays here. Nobody is allowed to leave. Ever again." He gravely said, "This town is cursed, if you have forgotten. People who come will never leave. Sometimes they try to, but never succeed. Other just died here, waiting."

"Okay, can you explain all those working people here? Like, if they're spirits, why can they touch me?" That made him smirk, "Actually, those people who you consider as police or living people are my men. They are under me." Now I get it how easy he could tip things into his favor. He practically runs this show from afar. The new information cause me to frown and bit my lip in agitation. Harry only laughed at this.

"I take it you don't like what you just heard."

"Not at all." I grumbled. Chills run up and down my spine when I felt his cold hand on my shoulder. I shook it off and faced him, glaring at him. "First you killed my dog, then my best friend and her mother. And you killed Matt! I wonder who would be next."

"Actually, I didn't kill your best friend and her mother. You practically shove her to take the road to death when you asked her to drive faster! It wasn't me, it was you." My eyes widen and I bit the insides of my cheek. "Her mother? She died because she committed suicide!"

"But you threatened me that day that you were going to kill her-"

"But I didn't. I just watched her slit her throat and shake ferociously as the blood came out her neck. And as for Matt, do I have to have a reason to kill him?"

"But what about Ben? You ate him until there is nothing left of the poor thing but bones!" My stomach clenched in pain and disgust, wanting to vomit when I remembered his awful it looked to see bones and flesh lying in the ground. Rolling his eyes, he pulled me to him and looked me in the eye. "Your dog is not even dead." What?

"Then explain how he disappeared from the face if the earth?" I mumbled, feeling sorrow at the lost of my only companion. Harry gestured for me to look behind me and I did. There, Ben sat, licking the bone on the floor and honestly, I felt happiness. "Ben!" I gushed as I ran to its side, stroking its head as he licked my hand. "I am so happy to see you!"

Barking, the dog turned his head when he saw Niall walking in with a bowl of water. Shifting my gaze to Harry, he just stood there stating at us. I cleared my throat and smile, "Thank you, but how?"

"Your dog ran off in the night, he was basically running around and avoided getting hit by passing cars. The thing you saw in your garden is nothing but your imagination probably." And with that, Harry turn on his heel and walked away. Leaving Ben to Niall, I followed Harry softly.

When he stopped and stared at the snow falling outside, I took it as a chance and wrapped my arms around his middle. "Are you still made at me for what happened last time?" I asked. It took a few minutes for him to answer, just rubbing his thumb on my hand. "I was not angry at you. Just, surprised."

"Then why avoid me? The Harry I know couldn't help but humor me with his dark sense of humor." This made him chuckle, "I guess just forgot and busied myself. I still have a person to catch and kill if I want to break this curse."

"If you break the curse, will you be a normal human being again?" I question and went up to face him. Looking down at me, he shook his head, "Not only me, but everything. This town would cease to exist. Every spirit would vanish and the remaining people could leave. Even you." This little information cause my heart to swell slightly.

I'll be free.

"I'll be a human and the rest of them too. Zayn could go back and sing band songs like he used to do before he became a demon. Niall could be a chef." I graze his jaw with my hand, him softly humming at the contact. "What about you?"

"I'd forget everything that has ever happened. Accept that Mertil is dead, that we couldn't be together and that she's already at a good place." Lacing my hand into his, a ghost of a smile graced his face. "And move on."

Peace is not what I'll be describing when it comes to Harry, but at the moment that's what he just seemed to look like. At peace. Licking my lower lip, Harry bent down and kissed me softly. I pulled away after a few moments before it becomes something else. I hope it would stay this way, but sadly it is not up to me.

It's all up to fate whether it decides to become a peaceful negotiator or a raging bitch that is set out to destroy every single thing that we all fought tooth and nail for.
