《Hex [h.s]》Chapter Sixty-three

The cold breeze coming from the open window gently brushed my skin, making me shiver. With a groan, I opened my eyes, blinking a few times when the light outside stunned me a bit. I sat up, hissing loudly the moment I moved my hips. What the hell? I held my head which was throbbing in pain, looking to the right side of the bed, it was unoccupied.
What happened last night again?
My eyes caught sight of a dress lying on the floor, eying it with confusion and uncertainty. That's when every memory of last night came flowing back to me.
I stood up slowly, biting my lip as I kept from groaning in pain. Pulling the sheets off the bed, I wrapped it around my bare aching body. No wonder it was cold. Seeing a tint of blood on the bedspread, I paled. Holding the wall for support, I walk towards the bathroom, the white sheet trailing behind me.
No, it can't be. We couldn't have gone that far.
I place both of my hands on the edge of the sink, gripping it hard as my knuckles turned white. My stomach churned, bile rising up my throat, I vomit. I turned the faucet on, the water flushing the vomit away. Looking up, I stared at myself on the mirror. I ran my fingers on my lips, wincing when I happen to brush it against the wounded part.
The flesh under my ear was tainted with violet and red spots, there are even bite marks on it. I grimaced at the sight of it. Turning to the huge mirror, I scanned at my state. Bruises were on my hips, along with huge red spots. Even my breast was peppered with it, tattooing my skin.
Turning the shower on, I tossed the sheet on the floor and got under the sprinkling water. Closing my eyes, I sighed at the feeling of the rushing water against my skin. After cleansing my body, I took my towel and dried off. I brushed my teeth, washing the taste of bile off my mouth.
Where is he anyways? He must have regret taking my virginity that's why he left before I wake up. Was he sorry? Was I that bad?
The moment I noticed what I was thinking about, I stopped in my tracks. Did I even regret giving my virginity to him?
Walking out of the bathroom, I hurriedly but carefully put on clothes. Brushing my hair, I went out of the room and down the stairs. Seeing Grace sitting on the couch, I decided to ask her where on earth Harry was. Because, in all honesty, it seems like I didn't regret it. Not sure why.
"Grace."
She looked up, her eyes widen at me. "L-Lucy! Good morning." Grace greeted, her hands twisting uncomfortably on her lap, it didn't go unnoticed by me. "Is there something wrong? And where is Harry?"
"Yeah, everything is alright." She answered, standing up from her seat. "Harry left this morning with the boys." I wanted to question where they went but I decided against it. "Do you want to eat breakfast? It's already eleven, you must be starving."

"Yes please. And do you have medicine for headaches? I'm experiencing a slight hungover." Grace stare at me for a moment before nodding at my request. "We have Advil, I'm sure your hungover won't last that long."
Sitting down on the wooden chair, Grace placed a dish in front of me. I smiled once she served a plate full of ham and egg. "Here's your Advil, and water." Grace inform, giving me a saucer with two tablets and a glass of cold water.
"Thank you," I mumbled, grateful for the medicine she gave. As I was eating, Grace wash dishes in the kitchen, which is just across the dining room. I knew she is still guarding me, Harry will never leave me on my own even for a second.
Just as I was about to hand my plate to her, something rang somewhere in the kitchen, probably her phone. "Hello," Grace mumbled, giving me a glance just as she turned her back to me. Who is she talking to? Is it Harry? Zayn?
"What?" I heard her gasp loudly in alarm. "No, h-how is he? He's not hurt or anything?" Cocking an eyebrow in suspicion, I silently stood from my seat and scrambled to the stairs, inside the bedroom. Locking the door behind me, I took a deep breath, spinning around to stare at the open window.
No, it's a bad idea.
I hurriedly took a jacket from Harry's wardrobe and put it on. Slipping on boots, I tied my hair into a ponytail. Silently, I opened the window widely before placing a foot out one at a time.
Still, I think this is an opportunity to see my family once again.
Harry's POV
"Tell me! I won't repeat this again you piece of s.hit, where is she?" I roared, glaring at the old man who lay down on the ground, moaning in pain. He looked up from where he is and stared at me with those grey eyes. "I don't...know what you're talking about."
"Liar."
I took out the knife out if his stomach, making him cry out in agony. I lifted it up before pointing it on his head, "If you won't tell me, your wife will suffer." Hearing his wife crying on the door room guarded by my men, he gave me a murderous glare. This made me sneer, as if he could kill me.
"Touch my wife and I'll kill you! Leave her out if this!"
You can't kill what's already dead.
I grinned wickedly, "So you do know where she is." When he hung his head down, I knew I had him. "Now, where is she?" The stench of blood spread throughout, entering my nostrils. Breathing heavily, he licked his dry lips and spoke, " S-she's not here anymore."
"What do you mean she's not here?" I demanded. He shook his head, "I mean she is not staying here anymore. She moved out twenty years ago, and she got married-"
"What? Where did she go? Where can I find her?" I felt the anger in me rising each minute that passed. "I-I don't know, I swear! The last time we saw her was the day of her wedding." The old man continued, raising a hand as if to protect himself. "I already told you everything I k-know, so please don't hurt us. We never did anything to you."

"Then you shouldn't have adopted her then," I spat at him. "It's your fault why you have to suffer now. What's her name?" I pulled him up by the collar and held his body up, staring at him with my black eyes. When he didn't answer, I wrapped my hand around his neck and began chocking him. "What is her name?!" I screamed, echoing across the walls, shaking them.
"R-Rachel." He gagged before I drop him to the floor, grunting aloud. Tossing the knife to the floor, I loomed over the man before smirking at him. "As much as I want to kill you with my bare hands, I'll let you go but if I learn that you try to warn your daughter. I'll find you."
He nods, my gaze turned to his large gash on his stomach covered with blood, I grinned. He won't last long anyways to tell her, he's dying. Exiting through the door, I went to the adjacent room where his wife was being held.
"What did you do to my husband you evil creature?"
"Something that'll haunt him for the rest of his life." I gave her an evil smile, "Well, if he will be able to live that long." I gestured for my men to let her go, "Let's go. I still have a Smith to track down and kill."
"Styles, I'm sorry if we didn't find the last Smith here." Sonya mumbled, walking by my side but still maintaining a distance. "There is nothing to apologize, after all we still got a lead on the whereabouts of this woman."
She bowed her head slightly, "Yes Sir." As I made my way outside the house, I furrowed my eyebrows to see Grace's snow covered car driving towards us. What the f.uck is doing here? Zayn probably thought of that too because he ran towards her when she got out of the car.
The two mumbled something to themselves, I pushed through my men, snapping at some who took time getting out of my way. "You can leave now, go back. I'll call when we're ready." Nodding, all of my men, including Sonya, disappeared except for Niall.
"What's going on?" I questioned walking towards them, Niall followed behind me. Grace shifted her gaze from her boyfriend to me with caution. "Harry..."
"What are you doing here Grace? Shouldn't you be-" Everything clicked in just a second when I noticed her eyes started to tear up. "Harry, I'm sorry, b-but Lucinda, she escaped." My nose flared in anger, eyes wide in shock, and holding back my fists by my sides .
"What?!" I raised my hand before slapping her across the face, she fell to the floor with a gasp. "You b.itch! How the f.uck did she get away? She's just a mere human and you're outsmarted by one!" Sobbing, Grace held her cheek, puffs of air leaving her lips. "Sorry, I-I didn't mean to."
"Never mind, I'll find her myself." I hissed, Zayn helped her up from the snowy ground. "No Harry, just let me fix my mistake." Grace said, but I shook my head at her. "No, I'll handle her," I mumbled, running my hand on my shoulders, I felt the slight stinging sensation caused by her clawing last night. I didn't know I had it until this morning when I left. "Besides, we still needed to talk."
Healing the light scratches, I turn to Zayn. "Tell Sonya to start tracking the woman down, there's a chance she's just in the neighboring town." Zayn nod at my requests, his hand around Grace's waist.
Without another word, black smoke surrounded me before I flew high up in the air. Now, I have to find two women. The last Smith, and Lucinda who is stubborn. She'll probably go and see her family. Just f.ucking great.
The moment I arrive in the mansion, I went straight to my room. I stared at the things, trying to figure out what was misplaced. Eying the widely open window, I figured that she probably climbed out here. Clever girl, but not that clever.
The bed was not made, the sheet was missing and it was still stained by her blood. I still couldn't f.ucking believe we did it last night. Another reason why she could have run off. Tearing the bedspread off, I flung it away and into the fireplace. Igniting it with fire, I watch as the material burn.
I opened the front door, about to leave, when I came face to face with Sonya. "What is it Sonya? Didn't I tell you to go and track the last Smith down?" She crossed her hand over her chest, "Yes and I did. I found out where she is."
This cause me to relax slightly, "Where is she then?" Handing me a photo, she smiled, "Base on what I just researched, she's here. She's here in Blackwell Mound. But, I'm still searching what she now looks like, and what her last name is. Those old blokes back there didn't help us that much since all they have are photos when she was a kid."
"Wait, there's more." She added when I decided to speak, "I have this feeling that old man didn't give us her correct name."
"But I thought you found out that she's residing here?"
"That's what I thought too, but you know humans sometimes. They'll lie through their teeth just to keep the ones they love safe. Just to be sure, I'll find out more about this Rachel before we kill her."
"Notify me once you do."
"Where are you heading?" She called out when I walked a few steps away. "Finding Lucinda, she escaped again." I said to her, disappearing into thin white smoke as a camouflage into the snowy weather, searching for Lucinda.

Long Shadow
No destiny, no choice, no hope. Our protagonist, a coward summoned to a world meant for heroes; a new world with new rules and old cruelties. Join him on his adventures as he must deal with menus, monsters, and mysteries in this litrpg fantasy. Thomas Goodwill was an average boy with an average life, all that changed when he woke up in a new reality. Now, out of his depth, damn near out of his mind, he must learn to survive in a game-like reality with no reloads, checkpoints, or save scumming. He does, however, have a drunk snake. Thank you for reading my first story, hopefully, the first of many to come. This will be my main story and is meant to help me practice and hone my skills as I slowly produce more complex ideas. It's a litrpg in which I want to only lightly focus on the mechanics as I don’t want to pad out the word count with math and number tables and while I want to add a few of my own twists here and there, overall I’m going to keep this story close to generic as possible so that I don't let my inexperience lead me into a corner. Thanks again to all willing to leave a review or some constructive criticism, without you I'd never improve. Unfortunately, Cover art is by me.

The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.
