《Hex [h.s]》Chapter Forty-seven

"Hurry up Lucy, or you'll be late!" I hear mom yelled downstairs. "Coming! Just a second!" Yelling back, I grab my backpack. It's the first day of class today, and I admit I'm nervous. Who wouldn't be? I left my room before running down the stairs.

"Careful Lucinda, you'll trip yourself." Dad, who was sittind down on the couch, spoke behind the newspaper. "Yes dad," I answered, grabbing an apple before biting it.

"Don't forget to take your medicine," Mom reminded gently, giving me the bottle. My eye sight has already improved due to the medicine, I can see well already, but I still can't see things that are far away. It seems like I have to sit in front of the class, to see properly.

"Oh, and you have to come home early, we're visiting the doctor again this afternoon." Mom added.

"Yes mom, I know."

Turning towards my father, I spoke, "Dad, we have to go. I thought you were going to drive me there?" Suddenly remembering his promise, he stood up quickly before keeping his newspaper away.

"Right, let's go." He smiles, before grabbing the keys on the counter. Once outside the house, I shivered a bit due to the cold breeze. "Goodbye Lucy! Good luck with school!" Mom waved. I gave her a short, small wave before getting inside the car.

"Dad," I spoke after a few minutes of silence. "Yes Lucy?" I licked my lips before speaking. "What if, they caught the killer, what happens then?" I ask, even though I already knew the answer to it. Dad chuckled, "We're going back home, and pretend that we never lived in this place. You'll be in the finest college me and your mother can afford, and everything will be back to the way it was."

The thought of freedom brought excitement in me. The thought of leaving this town and seeing my friends once more brought a smile on my face.

"And, what if they don't?"

A sigh escaped from Dad's lips, "Then we'll be staying here, against our will." I lowered my head, I knew to get our freedom was to give up mine. I'll be in jail while mom and dad is out. And I'm willing to give it up, for them to be free. I deserve it anyways. I deserve to suffer for the things I have done.

The moment my eyes caught sight of a blurry building, I felt nervous and timid. I would be okay if I'll be transfering schools, but this is Silent Mound. Everything here is never normal.

The car stopped in front of the driveway, "Well, off you go." Dad mumbled, I watch as students talking to with one another, this reminded me that I have no friends.

"Lucy."

I turn to face my Dad, he gave me a confused look. "Why the long face?" I shrugged, looking down. "Hey," He gently lifted my chin, looking at me with those eyes of his. "Just because you have no friends here doesn't mean you can't make ones."

I smiled, "Thanks Dad, for the encouragement." He laughs before I got out of the car. Closing the door, I waved goodbye. "Don't forget to get home early!" He yelled, I give him two thumbs up.

I took a deep breath in before entering the school's premises. I would be lying to myself if I say I didn't notice the student's staring at me.

"Who is she?"

"Is she new here?"

"Check her out, man."

Lowering my head, I ust ignored their whispering as I continued to walk. I have to go to the Principal's office first to inform him that my eye sight has improved. Well, the problem is that I don't know where it is, since I still had poor eye sight that time.

Noticing a group of girls chatting, I decided to ask them where the office was. I walk towards them before smiling. "Hey," I wave a bit, they stopped talking and just stared at me. Okay. "Can you tell me where the Principal's office is?"

One girl laughed, before the rest joined her in. I didn't even find one thing funny about what I just said. All of them laughed, except one. She looked at me with her brown eyes, her black hair was flowing past her shoulder and she had thick eyeliner on." It's down that hall," She answered. They stopped laughing, and I knew they were shocked that she answered me.

"Thank you," I smiled. I was even surprised that she smiled back, before I went my way to the Principal's office. Soon enough, I reaches the door with the sign 'Principal's office' on the door. Knocking twice, I entered. "Hello?" I called out softly, enough to be heard.

"Come in," I jumped slightly at the sound. I turn around to see a woman in her early thirties. Her blonde hair was in a bun, her pale blue eyes was focused at me. I remembered that voice, she's Miss Roberts! I gulped, "I-I came here to talk to the Principal?"

"Really? Why do you sound unsure then?" She raised her thin eyebrow. Damn, I have a feeling I'm going to hate this woman. Before I could answer, the door open wide, a man with brown hair entered swiftly. She smiled, "Goodmorning Sir."

"Goodmorning Miss Roberts, fine day it is." The man replied. He must be the Principal. I looked at Miss Roberts, she nodded before addressing the man. "Sir, we have a guest." This made him turn to look at me.

"Ah, if it isn't Miss Mackenzie! How wonderful to see you again." He held out his hand for me to shake, and I did. "How do you do Sir?" His eyes widen, "So you have already recovered from your galucoma?"

"Not fully, I still can't see from a far." I answered softly. He grins, "Well, I guess there'll be no problem if you'll be taking a seat on the front row?" I shook my head. "Very good, Miss Roberts, please give Miss Mackenzie here her schedule."

Miss Roberts handed me a piece of paper, which I took it. My first class was history, which I didn't mind. History is one of my favorite subjects. "Thank you," I mumbled. "You may go now Miss Mackenzie," The principal nod, gesturing towards the door.

Once outside, I exhaled in relief. I won't be taking special classes for the blind, instead I'll be going to study normally. I mentally cheered for myself.

Now all that I have to do is find my classroom. I bit my lip as I started looking down the left hall. I soon found it before the bell rang. Sitting in the front row, I felt eyes staring at me. I shifted in my seat. The whole classroom started to fill up, I was a bit shock to see the same black haired girl from earlier, enter the room.

She was even surprised, before taking the seat behind me, "Wow, so we're classmates?" I nodded, smiling at her remark. "Yeah, we're classmates."

She smirked, "I'm Gracie, Gracie Rodriguez. But just call me Grace." She held out her hand, I shook it. "I'm Lucinda Mackenzie, or call me Lucy for short."

"Cool name," She mumbled, "You're new to this town, are you? I saw the news about you being missing for three days." I lowered my head, "Oh, so you heard."

"But, why?" She questions, curiousity evident in her eyes. Should I tell her? Maybe she won't even believe me, and I may drag her into my problems. "I-I..I was...uh..." I stammered, "I was kidnapped."

"Kidnapped? That's awful!" She exclaimed, "Why? What did he want from you?" I shrugged, maybe I should just play it cool from now on and try to be a normal teenager.

"He wanted money," I spoke, " But he soon let me go when my parent's paid the ransom." I lied. She just nodded, before she can even utter another word, we were interuppted.

"Hello everyone!" A woman greeted, she looked at everyone through her glasses. She smiled, "I'll be your history teacher, my name is Miss Sanders." She spoke, writing her name on the board.

Grace rolled her eyes, "Don't let her fool you, she might be in a good mood today, but wait until tomorrow, she'll be snapping at you any time." She warned. My lips parted in shock at her judgement towards Miss Sanders.

"Trust me, I'm telling the truth." She whispers. When Miss Sanders spoke again, it caught my attention, "I want you all to know that we have a new transferee. Please stand in front and introduce yourself." The room grew quite, you can probably hear a pen drop.

I bit my lip as I slowly stood up from my seat, before standing in front. I would be lying if I say I'm not nervous as hell right now. "H-hello. My name is L-Lucinda Mackenzie," I spoke, mentally cursing myself for stuttering.

"Are you sure?" A loud voice asked somewhere in the back. I squinted, not clearly seeing the person's face, but judging from the voice, I knew it was boy.

"Excuse me?" I can't but ask. I heard someone snicker, "Are you even sure about your name?" The same boy asked. "Of course, why w-wouldn't I be?" I answered, confused to what he is trying to say.

"You shouldn't be named Lucinda, you should be named The Stammering bitch!" He boomed, and soon, the whole class was laughing. I couldn't believe what I just heard.

"That's enough Matt!" Miss Sanders snapped, "We should treat each other with respect, especially the new students."

"Right, Miss Sanders." The boy, Matt, answered, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Take your seat Miss Mackenzie." She spoke softly. I lowered my head in embarrassment, I went and sat on my seat once again.

"Don't notice him Lucy, he's just a dickhead that's all." Grace spoke, smiling a bit. "He treats everyone like that, he's the bully in this school." I just nodded.

"Now, I want you all to count from one to four, and those people who have the same number as you are your group members. I want you all to make friends with your group members, okay?" Half the class groaned.

Soon, we were all numbered. I got the number two, I wonder who are my group mates. "Psst! What's your number?" Grace asked in a whisper. "Two, what's yours?" I asked back.

"Three. This sucks, I was hoping we were group mates." She grumbled. "Really?" I ask, but before I can hear her reply, Miss Sanders yelled out orders again.

"You're all numbered? Good. Now go to your groups!" I stood up from my seat, finding my group mates. I was about to walk to my group when someone bumped my shoulder. He was tall, his hair was brown, his dark eyes looking into me. He had this scary aura around him, and I knew he was Matt in just one look at him.

"Come on Matt," Probably his friend, spoke. And I was right, he is Matt. "Wait," Matt smirked sickly at me. "Just to inform you bitch, you better not get in out way. Don't even think we can't hurt you, once we ask for something, you give it to us, okay?"

I would say no, if he didn't grip my arm tightly, that probably there'll be bruises there later. "Understood bitch?" He questions smugly, I nod. He lets me go before giving me the middle finger.

"Loser!" Matt hissed in my ear, making me cower a bit, before walking away with his snickering friends.

I closes my eyes briefly before inhaling deeply. Well, it seems like I'll be having a hard time here. Especially with that guy. I kept the tears at bay, before joining my group with a smile plastered on my face.
