《Hex [h.s]》Chapter Eighteen

I groaned, sitting up and rubbed my tired eyes. My body felt like it weighted sixteen tons, and I felt like vomiting a whole gallon. I squinted my eyes to see that I am in my room. Removing the duvets around my body, I stood up.

My legs felt like jelly when I started walking towards the bathroom. When I saw my reflection, I gasped in utter shock and disappointment.

Red eyes, messy hair, and yesterday's clothes. It was a total disaster.

What happened yesterday anyways?

My question was answered when I smelled my breath, smelling cherry vodka and a reminder that I forgot to do anything hygienic last night. I cringed and grab my toothbrush.

After brushing my teeth and making sure the smell of alcohol was gone, I went out of the bathroom and decide to go downstairs. When I reached the last step of the stairs, I can smell what my mom was cooking. It smelled like pancakes and bacon.

I sat down and looked at the table. It was newly decorated, a vase full of flowers, and was covered with a checkered cloth that seemed brand new.

"Morning, Lucy." My mom chirped, setting down my meal. I can't help but frown and wonder why was she doing this.

"Mom." I mumbled, and she looks at me. "Why... why are you doing this?"

She smiled, "Because I want to. Now eat. We're going out later." And she left the dinning room to attend to other things.

I began biting on my pancake, often grabbing my glass of milk to drink. I don't like coffee, I was kinda traumatized by it because I burned my tongue the first time I tried it. And I was too timid to try it again.

When I was finished, I carried my plate and glass to the kitchen sink, where my mom was doing the dishes.

"Out where?" I asked, and she turned to look at me before glancing down at her work.

"At the mall. We are going shopping, and I want to buy more paint since the wall's painting is... well you know, old."

I mumbled an 'okay' and left to head back to my room, ready to change my clothes.

"This one is cute on you." My mom gushed, holding up a pink dress. I couldn't help but cringed at her taste.

I shook my head at the image of me wearing the awful dress. "No. Never in my whole life." My mom rolled her eyes, making me realize now on where I got the habit.

"How about this?" She held up a denim dress with no sleeves. I smiled at the idea of it matching my black boots. I gave her two thumbs up, and she went to the cashier without another word. Mom could be quite nice sometimes.

After paying for the dress, Mom and I went to an ice cream shop, which was nearby.

"Strawberry." My mom grinned at the woman behind the counter, who nodded with a neutral expression on her face.

Why is it that all the people that I see in this town are all looking very bored, or it's like they don't even have a life.

It was my turn, and after looking at the flavors, I looked up towards the lady. "Butterscotch please." I ordered.

The weird thing is, while scooping my ice cream, she kept glancing up at me. Making me shudder in fear, I furrowed my eyebrows.

Why the hell is she looking at me like that?

She handed the ice cream to me after what seemed to be an eternity. I was about to walk away, when she grabbed my wrist. Astonished, I tried to pull away, but her grip wouldn't budge.

"Let. Go." I spoke firmly, and she leaned forward much to my surprise.

"Beware, when the moon is red, he will live again." She whispered before letting go of my wrist when I tugged harshly. I looked at her like she was crazy then walked away.

What the hell does she even mean? Red moon? Is she color blind or something?

"What's wrong?" My mom inquired, spooning her ice cream and licked.

"That woman was weird."

"Well, maybe she's just tired of her job that's why she looks like a zombie or something." She shrugs and laughed lightly.

"Didn't you notice Mom, that almost everyone looked just like her? Same expression or something?"

"I actually don't notice anything strange, Lucinda. Maybe it's just a figment of your imagination."

Or a nightmare.

"By the way, Ruby's mother called."

My eyes widen at the newfound information. "She did? What did she say?"

It's kinda strange of her to do so, she should be angry right now that I killed her daughter. Well, he did.

"She said she wants to visit us, and she won't tell your dad that we're living here right now."

I can't help but missing my dad. Sure Mom claims that he cheated on her, but after all, he is still my father.

Then, mom's phone rang. She opened her bag and searched for her cellphone, mumbling a cursed word each time she failed that made me wanna laugh.

"Hello?" She finally picked up, her lips spreading into a wide grin. "Hello Crystal, yes, we are in the mall right now..."

I wasn't paying attention to their conversation anymore because I spotted two men, sitting on a table six feet from ours, looking at us, well, me to be exact. They were whispering and laughing.

What the hell? After that, they stood up and left.

The other one looked at me and licked his lips, making me feel disgusted and wanna slap their stupid faces off.

"Okay... See you!" My mom hanged up. "She's coming later tonight, we'll prepare dinner for her, okay?"

I didn't bother to answer. Because I was too busy staring back at a pair of black empty eyes that hid on a dark corner.

He's here.

My mom snapped me out of my thoughts and we finished our ice cream as quickly as we could. Our last stop was to the salon. Mom decided to cut her hair up to her shoulders, while I decided to get a pedicure.

But just like everybody else, the woman who applied navy blue polish on my nails, just keeps staring at me.

I tried to busy myself by reading a magazine. After a few minutes, we were finished. And just before I leave, the woman whispered.

"Beware, when the moon is red, he will live again."

What the hell? Why on earth are they all whispering that stuff to me, and why not to my mom? I can't wait to get home and take a rest from all these madness happening right now.

When we got inside the car, Mom sped away. We waited for the traffic officer to signal us to pass, and he did. But just before we passed, he mouthed the same words, even though I couldn't hear it, I could make the words out.

"Beware, when the moon is red, he will live again."

I sunk into the leather seat, not wanting anyone that we passed by see me.

This town, is just plain hell.
