Kill me now.
Kill me now.
Kill me now.
If I had to sit and listen one more argument between Chaewon and Yerim, I was going to cut their tongues out.
“Hyejoo says I have pretty eyes.”
“Hyejoo says I'm beautiful.”
“Well she thinks that I'm gorgeous.”
I knew I should've escaped our friendship when I had the chance.
Then I wouldn't have to hear ‘Hyejoo, Hyejoo, Hyejoo...’ a small growl escaped my throat just thinking about her.
“Both of you shut up!” Chaewon and Yerim both snapped their mouth shut and looked at me in surprise. “Look at what she's done to you. You two used to be best friends and now you're at each others throats, because of a girl who's playing the both of you.”
I didn't know if was my anger or their foolishness that allowed the words to sink into their heads. I could see that they were really thinking about it too.
“I know this is going to sting but it needs to be said. All things that Hyejoo tells you two she says to every single girl that she meets. Those words mean nothing. And if she does really care about you two then she'll make a decision.”
“She's right.” Yerim turned to Chaewon looking extremely apologetic. “Chaewon, this is stupid. Why are we fighting with each other? Let's just have Hyejoo decide who she wants to be with and no matter who she picks we should still be friends.”
I crossed my fingers hoping Chaewon would put her pride away and agree with her.
“Okay.” Thank God. “And if she does pick you then I apologize for trying to take your girlfriend from you.”
“You're apologizing for something,” Yerim said with fake shocked. “It's a miracle.”

Chaewon rolled her eyes and playfully nudged Yerim's shoulder. “Whatever.”
“Yay!” I exclaimed in satisfaction. “We're friends again. Thank goodness too because I was ready to kill the both of you. Anyways, let's go find Hyejoo and have her settle this.”
I opened up my locker wondering what kind of gifts I would receive today and what type of plans Chaewon and Yerim had up their sleeves to win my affection.
“Hyejoo.”
I turned to find Yerim, Chaewon and Yeojin looking at me with serious expression. This was not what I expected today and if it ruined all of my plans then I was not going to be happy.
“They have something they want to tell you.” Yeojin gave her friends and encouragement nudge forward.
This couldn't be good.
“We're tired of playing games so we're giving you until tomorrow to decide which one of us you want to be with,” Chaewon said.
“Me or Yerim.”
“We'll meet you outside of the school tomorrow morning at 7:30.” Yerim handed me a slip of paper with the same information written on it. “Have your answer then.”
The three of them walked away leaving me standing there completely dumbfounded. In all my years of dealing with girls, none of them had ever made me choose between them. I normally just a kick out of being with both and them being upset with each other instead of me.
I never had to pinpoint what I liked about them either. Looks were given but there are things I like personality wise. A sense of humor, friendly, outgoing, and they were both all of those things.
I've never had this situation happen to me.
Man reality sucks.
I hadn't realized it during our fight but I actually missed Yerim. I invited her to come to my house after school and noticed that I had missed certain things about her like her laugh, her jokes, and just being in her company in general.

“Did you know that Hyejoo likes unicorn?” Yerim asked.
I couldn't believe my ears. “Hyejoo? The supposed to be basses womanizer?”
“Yep. She had a collection of them in her room.” Yerim leaned forward laughing uncontrollably. And here I was thinking she was as tough as a nails.
“She wrote me a love letter in eight grade,” I shared. “It was decorated with hearts and stickers. I actually liked her for a week when I found out she had written the same letter for other girls.”
I had never told that to anyone since eight grade. Yerim and Yeojin would've teased me every chance they got for even receiving a love letter from Hyejoo let alone admitting that I liked her.
“That's the same year I like Yeojin.”
“You liked Yeojin?”
“Of course I did. I thought it was obvious from how much I always wanted to hang around her and laughed at like everything she said.” Yerim pouted. “She never did pick up on my hints though.”
I thought back on it, realizing it had been painfully obvious. Yerim had always say next to Yeojin in class or at lunch, flipped her hair all the time, and laughed as if Yeojin had told her the best joke on the entire world. I guess I was too lost in my own world to notice anything back then. Not that I'm alert now.
“Can I ask you something?”
“You just did,” I joked.
“Will you be upset if Hyejoo picks me?” She asked.
“Kind of, ” I admitted. “But I'll get over it. We'll just have to see what she says tomorrow.”
Tomorrow.
I had never dreaded anything more.

Humanity's End
Given a year to prepare by the mysterious ‘system’ for contact with the wider galaxy, humanity must work to ensure the Earth’s defense is ready to meet any challenge. Sadly, most of the world seems dedicated to tearing itself apart as the year-end deadline gets closer. The west is in barely contained Chaos, while the east descends into internal conflict and war. The Pillar Forts, one of the few successful projects of the United Nations headed by the United States, stand ready to defend humanity against any invasion that may come through the strange Connection Pillars that appeared on each continent. Massive steel and stone walls that surround the Connection Pillars. They are filled with deadly men and women trained in all manner of warfare, each trained in the newly acquired System with skills and magical abilities that they put to deadly purpose. Beside these brave warriors, tanks, helicopters, artillery and more stand ready to defend humanity at each of these powerful installations. But, can they overcome the disparity in levels and experience between themselves and the forces that threaten them and the rest of humanity? Main Characters Jessica Brown- A young African American girl. Her 18th birthday in Detroit was the same day the systems message appeared. She discovered she was Level 7, much higher than most of the rest of the world. Why she is blessed, or cursed, with the power she doesn’t know. But what she does know is that she rather likes the feeling that comes with manipulating magic. The week after her birthday, government workers started testing every person in the US in a massive census effort of skills and abilities. Jessica Brown found herself conscripted into the US Magical Corp, a new branch of the US Military, and shipped off to a Pillar Fort. Somewhere hot and muggy in her ancestors’ home of Africa. As she grows stronger, she finds she has some connection to the pillars. While everyone else sees beauty or danger when they look at the pillars, after connection is made all Jessica can see is a Tree. A tree the size of the entire universe. Isaka Smith - is a third generation American and farmer who just wants to be left alone. But she is dragged into the situation by events beyond her control. When people in her small town had to deal with rioters and looters after the system announcement, she rallied them to defend themselves, earning her a trait that the government found extraordinarily useful. After a visit to a local reservation, she finds herself conscripted to lead one of the many small support towns erected around the great pillar forts. Not near her old home, but in far-flung Africa. John McIntire, the “Fighting Bull” -The commander of the African Fort, but because of circumstances beyond his ability to contend with shortly after taking command after being re-activated from retirement, he finds communication with his chain of command increasingly difficult. The US government, hell, even the United Nations, seems to have fallen into complete and utter chaos. The African Union is embroiled in a bitter civil war just outside his door, and supposedly, most of the world governments are in similar situations. Meanwhile, John must do his best to be ready to facilitate diplomacy, or to match the hostile argument of whatever force might come through the pillar of light when the year timer finishes counting down. Can our heros defend Earth from outside threats, while it tares itself apart? Or will they need to rebuild from the ground up? DEDICATION: This story is dedicated to my father who passed away recently. Jim Holloway, you’ll be missed you old silverback gorilla. Love you dad. Always have, always will.
