《Rewind (A Hamilton AU/ Hamgelica AU)》Chapter VI

One week after the ball had ended, Peggy and Eliza had something to look forward to. Eliza was head over heels in love with Alexander, and Peggy was slowly warming up to John with each letter he sent her. Maybe he wasn't a one night stand after all? But Angelica? Angelica was feeling truly drained after the ball and was in a constant battle with herself and she felt like she could never win

"I truly am a terrible sister" Angelica thought

Peggy walked into Angelica's room with a plate in her hand, where she found her older sister in a night gown and clenching onto her pillow tight with tears streaming down her face. She truly felt sorry for her sister and she knew there was nothing she could do to make it better, but she could try

"Angelica? I brought you a croissant. Lightly toasted with lots of butter and strawberry jam, just the way you like it,"

Peggy hadn't gotten a response from her sister who was still crying and staring blankly at the wall.

"Angelica, what happened that night was not your fault. You did your best to make her happy, and you did. So what if she gets hurt in the long run? She won't blame you for what happens in the future, because she, you, and I know that what happened and what will happen is not your fault. End of discussion. Now please say something. I don't like depressed Angelica. Please?"

Angelica finally turned around in her bed and looked at her sister, she stared at her for a long while and got up. Peggy was a little surprised at her sister's sudden reaction. Angelica walked over to her and pulled her into a hug. She started sobbing in Peggy's shoulder and looked at her sister

"What did I do to deserve you, Pegs?"

"Well, you didn't really do anything, it was more of what mother and father did that brought me here."

"Jesus, Peggy!" Angelica smiled and started laughing and Peggy started laughing too. She was happy to finally see her sister smile

"There's that smile." Peggy pinched her sister's cheek and Angelica laughed. Angelica grabbed her croissant and began to eat it.

The two sisters were happily talking to each other when they heard loud clicks of a pair of heels running towards them. It was Eliza running to Angelica's room out of breath and holding three letters, one addressed Miss Elizabeth Schuyler, another addressed Miss Margarita Schuyler, and the last addressed Miss Angelica Schuyler.

"Sisters, guess what! We've received letters! This one's mine, this one's Peggy's from John Laurens, and this one's Angelica's but it has no name on it? Have you spoke to anyone recently Angelica?" Eliza asked

Angelica was truly baffled to hear she got a letter. Peggy was just as happy as Eliza to receive a letter from their loved ones.

"Here's yours. I'm going to go read mine, are you coming Peggy?" Eliza inquired

"No thank you, 'Liza. I'll stay here" Peggy replied

"Oh, all right then. Goodbye!"

Angelica and Peggy looked at each other and squealed because they had gotten letters.

"Open yours first, Peggy!" Angelica exclaimed

"Fine fine, it says as follows:"

"My darling Margarita,

I am well thank you for asking, I pray that you are well at the moment too. The war has been getting a bit intense and we, as you know, are running out of supplies. We have resorted to eating our horses.

Though, despite these circumstances you always find a way to sneak upon my mind and find your way in. You are what I think about when times are rough and when I come home, you are the only thing I look forward to, my love.

I will be arriving home soon with Alexander Hamilton to visit you and your family. I plan to arrive at about one week time. I cannot wait to see you again.

Forever yours,

J. Laurens"

When Peggy finished reading the letter, she had bright red blush decorating her face. With a hand to her heart she looked at Angelica and was excited. She jumped around the room, Angelica watched her from the bed and she looked very happy.

"Oh, Angelica! I can't! I can't wait! He's so romantic, he's everything I ever dreamed of. Truly perfect! He's amazing! He's coming home soon to see me! Me of all people!" Peggy was rambling on and on about John Laurens for a few minutes now.

"I thought you weren't looking for a man Peggy? What's the meaning of this?" Angelica asked in confusion

"Well, I like both you see. Men and women. I was preferring to find a woman that night, but I found him, I decided to keep him for the night. When I did, he looked me in my eyes and said "I'd like to know you more." I swear Angie, I panicked because I wanted the same thing with him, now I have it and I'm so happy!" Peggy explained her story

"I see. I suppose it's my turn to open mine" Angelica opened the letter slowly "it says,"

"My dearest Angelica,

I ask you to forgive me for the delayed response regarding your last letter. Things have been very busy and we are trying our best to win the war. For America, for Eliza, and for you.

I'm afraid my letter cannot be very long due to our conditions. So, I must keep it brief and tell you. I truly love and care for you, and I hopefully await the day I can see you and your family again.

Truly, Truly, yours

A. Hamilton"

The letter was short, but it was just enough for Angelica. She was an intelligent woman and she knew that he was flirting with her. Or maybe she was hoping he was. Tingles shot through her heart as she finished the letter and looked at her dear sister Peggy. They had both been satisfied by the letters they received.

"Peggy, may I please have some time alone? I need time to reflect on all of this." Angelica said with a very distant voice

"Of course, Ang. Let me know if you need anything." Peggy finalized the conversation and left, shutting the door on the way out

Angelica sat in her room staring at the ceiling for hours until a knock on her door snapped her out of her dreamlike state

"Angelica? It's me, Eliza. Peggy told me you wanted to be alone, so I decided to write what I wanted to say on a piece of paper and slip it under the door. Is that alright with you?" Eliza asked

"Go ahead, love. I don't mind"

Eliza slipped the note from under the door. Angelica looked and saw a thin, white sheet of paper and got up to go pick it up. The note read as follows:

"Dear sister,

Alexander and I have been talking. We have a set wedding date. Father has given his approval to our marriage and wishes us the best. We shall be wed on the 14th of December, in the year of 1780

Your cherished sister,

E. Schuyler"

Angelica felt herself die as soon as she finished the note. There was already a wedding date, and preparations were beginning very soon. She felt as if she had failed her sister, and as soon as they marriage is finalized, Angelica knew she has set her sister in a path of bittersweet years with her "husband that loves her dearly"
