Enjoy! Plus, all of the elements to the story can change to what you want.

Title: "Lurking in the Dark"

Main character: A woman around the age of twenty-five (I was going to say a man, to make it less cliché, but the statistics are staggering; refer to background information)

Background information: -The story, essentially, will be a man stalking a woman. HOLD UP!!! Before you leave, I have ways to make this story different than all the others.

-This woman is twenty-five, very mature for her age (even though she already is an adult), and has common sense. Therefore, she knows what the signs of being stalked are and what to do if it occurs.

-1 in 12 women will be stalked in their lifetime (wow). The majority of these stalkers are people the women know... so they already have your trust.

-Anyways, the signs of being stalked are running into the same person several times on a daily-basis, noticing someone following you from behind at a short/medium distance, repeated phone calls (if they gather enough personal information), sending you gifts, showing up to help you (you run out of gas, they show up to help you; they are very nice to you), filing lawsuits against you (I did not see this one coming; they can file a lawsuit or threaten to harm someone or themselves if you do not return their affection), internet harassment, they want you to isolate yourself when they make bogus claims (but you should fight back and deny all of them), the use of threats or violence, and take note that stalking is very subtle, but persuasive. Meaning, that it's enough to raise suspicion; but, it's also not enough for you to blame the stalker (someone you know), as you try to make up excuses for them. ("He wouldn't do that", "We're friends", "He/she is a good person".)

-How someone would report stalking: A person having noticed odd behavior from someone, would file a report to the local law enforcement. However, a lot of the times the stalker denies being involved and files against you for a false report. This means that you would have to go to court to prove that you are being stalked. As we all know, this trial process is long and painful. You could come to the conclusion that this is why women don't report stalking because of the big deal it is made out of (courtroom-wise; this crime is a big deal).

-Character/stalker background information along with overall story ideas: The woman has been working in the same office for three years, and has to show around new employees. One day, a new employee comes in. She notices that he is not like the others. For her, that wasn't a bad thing. She, herself, is very unique and different. The "coincidences" start to add up out of all the times she's seen him. Suddenly, she starts getting phone calls from him, just asking about her day. She regards the phone calls as him being friendly and not knowing anyone (he is new to the area). However, the calls start to get more personal as he asks where she has been throughout her day. This raises a red-flag, and she files a police report. The police take it as a paranoid woman living alone and won't act on it unless there is hard evidence (also, she lives in a big city like New York, Philadelphia, or Chicago; therefore, it's hard for her to keep up with her stalker and the police "don't have time" for another one of these cases). The woman starts to avoid him, not taking the help he offers when her tire goes out, gets a new phone number, installs a security camera, and buys a guard dog to watch over the property. There just seems to be one problem, her stalker is always one step ahead of her.

-This story will be as realistic as it possibly can, for this is a real problem. The conflict will always be between her stalker and, for a little while, the police. (Thought: Maybe the stalker, her co-worker, has connections inside of the police and has a good reputation).

This one's a bit darker than my other story ideas, but I hope you enjoyed it the same (or thought it was creepy... because you should have).

Anyways, thanks for reading! You can edit what you need to make it fit your writing style or what you want. You don't have to message me to use this; however, please give me credit for the idea by mentioning me in the story's description or dedicating the first chapter to me (@samwise_gamgee). Also, I will gladly read your story if you let me know.

I try to post a new story idea every day, so check back here.

Bye!
