Chapter 35

I walked towards my room and sighed out. I felt like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders after telling everything to Crystal. I let my heart out to her today, I told her my worries and my fears. I told her the thing that caused a huge gap in my heart to be created. I told Crystal what I haven't told anybody since I came here. I told her my secret.

I didn't want anyone to know, because it was too complicated in general. It made me who I am today and I knew keeping it hidden was for the best, not just for me, but for Mason too. I didn't know if I made the right choice in telling Crystal since I barely knew her, but I felt completely better after I did. And she was understanding.

Sometimes telling a stranger your worries or secrets is better than telling your best friend, because a stranger doesn't know you, meaning they have nothing against you and they won't judge you. And that's what I did today, I felt guilty that I didn't tell Lina, because she is my best friend, but I preferred to keep it low. Maybe when the time is right, I'll tell her.

I walked into my room and embraced the silence that surrounded me. It was getting dark and my wolf was nagging at me. She wanted to take a run. I decided that I was going to run for a bit because it's been a while since I let my wolf out. And also to stop my wolf from nagging at me. I walked towards the closet to change into something comfortable.

I will be running near the packhouse because I didn't want to come across a rogue or a bloodsucker. What happened yesterday made me cautious, and everyone else. It could or could not have been a coincidence, but I was going to be on the safe side and remain near the packhouse. Also, I didn't want to get on Mason's angry side, knowing that if he saw me in the woods it would anger him like the last time.

I changed and then walked out of my room. I walked down the stairs and towards the packhouse door. I opened it to bump into a hard chest. My eyes widened when strong arms wrapped themselves around my waist, keeping me from falling to the hard ground. I looked up to meet dark eyes, which seemed like they could look right through my soul.

Mason looked down at me and gave me a questioning look.

"Where are you going at a time like this?" He asked.

I raised a brow at him.

"At a time like this? It's not even 7 pm," I stated.

"That doesn't matter. It's dark outside, I need you to be safe." He whispered. I slowly nodded my head.

"I'm only going out for a run. My wolf needs to be let out," I told him. He shook his head and his hands around my waist tightened sending tiny sparks erupting around my body.

"No. Not even that," he said stubbornly. I sighed out and frowned.

"Please, Mason. I won't go far away, I'll be near the packhouse. My wolf isn't going to shut up until I let her out," I begged him with a pleading look. I had to run for a bit before my wolf makes me lose my sanity. Mason stared down at me and let out a long sigh.

"God, you're impossible to deal with." He muttered under his breath. I frowned at him and he nodded his head.

"Fine, but only if I come with you. I'm not risking you getting into trouble," I told me. I broke into a smile and immediately nodded my head.

"Ok," I said happily.

I looked around to see a couple of people staring at us. We were by the door and his hands were still wrapped around my waist in a possessive manner. I immediately pulled away from him, not wanting people to get the wrong idea and not wanting the rumors to increase.

Mason let out a cough and I snapped my head towards him.

"Come on, let's go." He said then grabbed my hand, which made my eyes widen. We walked towards the woods and I looked up at him.

"Go behind a tree and shift," he said. I nodded my head and walked towards a large tree. I took my clothes off and shifted into my wolf. After I was fully shifted I emerged from behind the tree and was greeted by Mason's silver wolf. The first thing he did was walk towards me and gave me a huge lick on the face, knowing that his wolf had most of the control.

My wolf snuggled deeper into him and let out a purr. Mason let out a growl and rubbed the side of his face against my face. I slowly pulled away as he looked at me like I was his prey. His eyes were pitch black as he inspected my every move. This excited my wolf and made her growl a playful growl.

I slowly backed away as he stepped further and in less than a second I turned around and made a run for it. I ran as fast as I could and I heard Mason's steps right behind me. He was catching up to me and this made me run faster. I heard a playful growl erupt from Mason's chest which made my wolf yelp.

The next thing I know Mason was on top of me as I crashed to the hard ground. I growled at him as he looked down at me playfully. I yelped out in shock as he bit onto my ear, but not hard enough to hurt. I growled again and he bit onto my other ear.

"Trying to run away from me, huh?" Mason spoke from the mind link.

I whined when he bit a little harder on my ear. Mason pulled away and looked at me, not realizing that he bit onto my ear hard this time. He whimpered and started licking my ear then my face. My wolf purred again and he pulled away then looked at me. I pushed him off then jumped on him.

"Run? No, you were just chasing me." I told him, looking down at him.

He let out a growl.

"I was chasing after my prey," he said. I mentally raised a brow at him.

"Prey? Oh, so I'm now your prey, huh?" I asked.

"Yes, you're my prey. And when my prey runs away from me, I chase them." He replied in a low voice. My eyes widened and I slowly got off of him. He got off from the ground and then I started running for the second time, making Mason run after me once again. He growled which caused my wolf to growl back.

I continued to run away from him as he chased me. We stayed like that for a while, I ran and he chased. I couldn't help the goofy smile that kept appearing on my face as he ran behind me. I felt like a kid once again, it felt nice, and I liked this playful side of Mason.

I was running when I noticed that Mason wasn't behind me anymore. I frowned in confusion and looked back to see him standing there, zoned out. It looked like he was talking with someone from the mind link. My frown deepened and I slowly walked up to him. His eyes were pitch black and a low, dangerous growl emerged from his chest. I looked at him carefully then took a step closer to him.

"Mason, what's wrong?" I asked him from the mind link. His head snapped over to me and his eyes darkened a dangerous shade of black. Another growl came out of his chest and he looked angry, really angry.

"I have to head back to the packhouse. Something came up," he growled.

"What happened?" I questioned.

"I don't have time to explain. I have to go. Be sure to follow me back to the packhouse, I don't want you out here for long." He said and immediately turned around and ran off. I stared at the spot he was standing at in confusion. What happened? I hoped that nothing bad happened because he looked very mad. And that wasn't good.

I decided to head back to where I kept my clothes and shift, so I could head back. I wanted to check up on him so I could make sure everything was fine and there weren't any problems. I started running towards the place I left my clothes at and shifted, then wore my clothes. I walked out from behind the tree and a gasp of shock escaped my lips when I saw John right in front of me.

I placed my hand on my heart trying to slow my heartbeats after I was shocked. Goodness, he almost gave me a heart attack. Where did this guy come from? I looked at him confused and then frowned.

"What are you doing here? You almost gave me a heart attack." I asked him. His hard, emotionless face didn't change and he shrugged his shoulders.

"I was going out for a run until I saw you," he said, not looking too happy.

I raised a brow at him. I stepped closer to him and gave him a polite smile, while he, gave me a glare. Geez, what up with him and his glares?

"Can I ask you a question?" I asked. He frowned and shook his head.

"No," he answered and turned around. My eyes widened at his rudeness and I walked up to him, standing in front of him, then crossing my arms against my chest.

"Hey, hey, hey, buddy. What crawled up your ass this morning?" I questioned. He snapped his head over at me and growled.

I smirked up at him.

"Watch your mouth!" He growled at me.

"Watch your attitude," I commented. "What's up with you? You're so rude. All I did was ask you a question!"

His eyes widened and he closed them, breathing in and calming himself down. He then opened them and stared down at me.

"What's your question?" He asked.

"Why do you hate me?" I asked him. He raised a brow at me.

"Hate?" He questioned. I nodded my head.

"Yeah, I mean, I barely know you and never did anything to you, so how come you're always glaring at me like I stole your mate," I asked.

He rolled his eyes and started walking away.

"Hey, where are you going?" I asked and walked up to him. How rude, I just asked him a question!

"I don't have time to answer meaningless questions," he replied. I rolled my eyes at him.

"Fine. Can I ask you another one then?" I questioned.

He shook his head.

"No."

I rolled my eyes. How surprising.

I started walking behind him but he stopped then turned over to me, glaring at me.

"Why are you following me?" He questioned. I scoffed at him.

"Don't get ahead of yourself, buddy. I'm not following you, I'm going back to the packhouse. Exactly where you're going," I replied. He gave me another glare before turning around and walking off. I walked behind him and into the packhouse. I decided to look for Mason, to check up on him and make sure nothing was wrong.

I walked up the stairs and down the hall. Maybe he's in his office. I walked towards his office and as soon as I was in front of the door I stopped dead in my track after hearing Mason's voice boom in the air angrily. I sucked in a breath as he growled loudly and something fell on the floor, making a crushing noise.

"What do you mean he's dead?" He growled. My eyes widened at what he said and I stepped closer towards the door.

Dead? Who died? I started getting worried, hoping that it wasn't someone I knew or loved.

"Alpha, the rogue had silver in his system, slowly killing him. He barely woke up for a short amount of time before blacking out. Judging from the tests, it's been in his system since yesterday night. A perfect amount of silver for him to die slowly and for his death to be today." A voice explained.

Mason growled and smashed something, making me flinch.

"What are you trying to say?" He growled. There was a moment of silence, when finally the person that was inside of Mason's office spoke.

"I'm saying that the rogue was meant to die. His death was planned out, and whoever injected the silver in him wanted him to die today."
