Chapter 4

Mate, someone you're supposed to love, supposed to cherish, and supposed to stick together till the last breath you take.

Not everyone finds their mate but the one that does, they're lucky. Well, that's what everyone says.

I don't want that, not now, not ever. And to make the matter worse, the alpha everyone is supposed to fear is my mate. How am I going to deal with that? Will he just kill me or let me go?

I just stayed there standing in shock. He had strong vibes coming from him, no doubt he can scare someone with his eyes only.

I would be lying if I said he wasn't attractive, but I wasn't paying attention to that. What caught my attention was the way he was looking at me with cold hard eyes. Disgust and anger.

I gulped a bit when he stepped closer and growled deep down in his throat.

"Mate," he growled really low.

He immediately shook his head and clenched his jaw.

"Why wasn't this rogue with you?" Alpha Mason asked one guard while keeping his eyes on me but eventually moved them to the frightened guard. He wasn't the only one frightened, I was terrified. However, my wolf was purring in my head and begging to be with her mate.

I closed my eyes and looked down trying to calm my wolf down.

"A-Alpha Mason, she was too fast and we couldn't catch up to her," he replied. The alpha growled loud enough for everyone to hear.

"I ordered you one thing. One thing and you failed," he roared. I opened my eyes and all the guards were looking down in shame. I gulped once again.

Mate or not. I'm dead.

"Take the rogue back to the dungeons." I furrowed my brows in anger when he called me a rogue. Sure I was one, but it wasn't like I wanted to be one.

"But Alpha, you ordered us to take her to you so you can execute her," another guard said. At that my wolf whimpered. I slowly looked at the alpha and his eyes were black, his wolf wanted out. He closed them shut and opened them once again.

"Take the rogue back to the dungeons and I'll decide when it will take place," he said in a dangerous tone. The guards came up to me and grabbed me. I tried to make them let go of me but it was no use. Alpha Mason looked at me one more time with emotionless eyes and turned his back on me and walked away.

The guards pulled me back to the dungeons aggressively and all I could think about is what will I do? Surely he doesn't want me and I don't either. It's either rejection or death. My wolf wanted to take control so she could go to her mate. She didn't like the idea of being rejected or killed by her mate but I didn't like the idea of having a mate in general. Especially him.

Once I made it to my cell they pushed me in it and I fell to the floor. They gave me a hard look and walked out of the dungeons leaving me on the floor. Well, look at the bright side, they didn't chain me to the metals.

"Tiana! Tiana are you ok?" Adam yelled.

I raised my head and sighed.

"I'm ok, Adam," I yelled back.

"What happened? Why did they put you back in your cell?" He asked loudly. I wanted to tell him why but I couldn't tell him here, where lots of prisoners will hear. It's weird how we kept talking to each other and not one of the prisoners told us to shut up. My guess is that they are too weak to talk or there aren't many of them because all this pack does is kill.

"Here isn't the right place to tell you, it's too complicated," I told him. I sighed and rested my head on the cold hard ground.

"But are you ok?" He asked softly. If it weren't for my werewolf hearing then I wouldn't have heard him.

"I'm ok, Adam, don't worry," I replied. I heard him sigh then everything went quiet. My wolf wasn't speaking to me nor making a single sound. She was heartbroken but all I could feel was anger. If he wasn't planning on killing me then I would have just rejected him. I didn't need a mate, especially not one that doesn't have a heart.

I closed my eyes to calm my thoughts but that only lead to deep, deep sleep.

I snapped my eyes open when I heard laughter, it wasn't peaceful laughter but evil laughter. There were lots of people around me wearing dark hoodies. They were laughing while pointing at me. I furrowed my brows in confusion and tried to move but slowly realized I was tied down to a chair.

I started to panic but the silver chains absorbed all my energy. I closed my eyes and shook my head, what's happening?

Everyone started to calm down and all the laughter stopped.

I sighed but immediately stiffened when I heard someone speak up.

"Open your eyes, rogue!" I immediately opened my eyes to be met with dark cold ones glaring back at me. A shiver ran down my spine at the way he was looking at me.

"What were you doing in my territory?" He asked in a hard tone. I gulped and clenched my hands.

"I didn't mean to cross your territory," I said while looking into his eyes.

"Liar!" He roared. "I'll ask you one more time, what were you doing in my territory?"

I lowered my gaze from him but looked back directly into his eyes. I'm not going to show him that I'm weak.

"I told you. My pack was-" I was caught off when he growled loudly. He was furious.

He came closer to me and his face was inches away from mine.

"You decided to come into my territory then lie to my face with no shame, let me tell you, mate. You came to the wrong pack," he said in a hard voice.

What is this guy talking about? I'm not lying! Why is fate so horrible to me to pair me up with someone like him?

Alpha Mason looked at a man and nodded his head. The man looked at me and smirked but disappeared for a moment but soon came back, but not alone.

He had Adam.

"Adam!" I yelled. He was unconscious and that broke my heart. What did they do to him?

"Shut up," the Alpha yelled. I clenched my fist to prevent myself from calling him once again.

The man brought Adam closer and landed him down right in front of me. A tear fell out of my eye but I sighed in relief when I heard him breathing slightly.

"Adam! Wake up!" I yelled.

Alpha Mason nodded his head once again while the crowd just cheered. The man that carried Adam shifted into his wolf and started stalking towards his body. All the blood left my face and my heart started to beat faster.

"W-What are you doing?" I yelled but he didn't stop. "Get away from him."

He slowly walked up to Adam and growled loud causing the whole crowd to go wild. What's wrong with these people?

But the whole crowd went silent after the wolf raised his large head in the air and lowered it immediately, biting into his neck. My heart stopped and so did Adam's breathing. I was left there looking at my lifeless best friend's body and a tear fell out of my eye while I yelled one thing.

"Adam!"

"Adam!" I yelled and jerked my body off of the hard ground.

"Tiana? What's wrong?" Adam yelled. I looked around my surroundings and saw I was still in the cell. I breathed in and out and rubbed my face with my hands.

It was only a nightmare, thank God! It's weird that these days I have been having lots of weird dreams. But what matters now is that Adam is ok! Speaking of Adam.

"Nothing, it was just a bad dream." I sighed out.

"What was it about?" He asked. I hesitated to tell him, I didn't even tell him about finding my mate.

"Nothing important. It's all over now," I replied.

"Don't worry Tiana. Nothing's going to happen to you," he reassured.

I wasn't worried about myself. I was worried about Adam.

"Adam?" I called him.

"Yes, princess?" He asked, I grinned at that. See the irony? He called me a princess and I'm in the dungeons.

"You were about to tell me something before they came and took me. What were you about to say?" I asked. It seemed like it was something important.

"Uh...it can wait. Besides, we have better things to worry about."

"And what's that?" I questioned.

"Whether they're going to kill us or not." A shiver ran down my spine, who would ever think that a mate would want to kill his mate, I'm not really affected by it because I never really wanted one but that didn't stop the feeling I had deep down inside, a feeling of betrayal and anger.

The dungeon doors slammed open and I immediately pretended I was asleep. It might seem dumb but what if they were coming for me but saw me asleep and came later? Ok, that wouldn't happen, they would just aggressively wake me up but it didn't hurt to try.

I kept up with the act and didn't move. My heartbeat started to increase when I heard people walking towards my cell. My heart fell to my stomach when I heard someone open the door to my cell and walked in but a gasp was heard and a body collided with the ground.

What is happening?

"P-Please let me go." A soft voice whimpered next to me, dark laughter came out of someone and the door of the cell closed then soon the dungeon doors after a moment.

I waited until the coast was clear and soon opened my eyes. I found a girl about my age who crawled up in the corner of my cell crying and whimpering.

Why did they put her in my cell? I'm not complaining, I do need company and it looks like this girl needs help too.

I got up and walked towards her slowly.

"Are you ok?" I asked. She snapped her head towards me and fear was present in her eyes.

She shook her head while whimpering.

I walked closer to her and sat in front of her, she scooted as far away from me as possible.

"Hey, it's ok, I'm not going to hurt you," I told her. She relaxed a bit at that but stayed stiff.

"What are you doing here?" I asked. She sighed and a tear fell out of her eye.

"I accidentally crossed this territory," she replied. I Immediately understood, we were in the same boat.

"What's your name?"

She looked at me hesitantly before looking at her hands.

"Kayla, what about you?" She asked. I smiled at her. Well, at least I'm not the only one asking questions.

"I'm Tiana," I replied while reaching my hands toward her. She reached for my hand and shook it.

"W-What are they going to do with us?" Kayla asked. I sighed and shrugged.

"I really don't want to say," I whispered. Her lip trembled and I knew she was about to cry.

"Please don't cry! Everything's going to be ok," I reassured her. I knew everything wasn't going to be ok but it won't hurt to stay positive right? "We'll get out of here."

"Promise?" She asked.

"I promise." I nodded my head.

She nodded her head and closed her eyes. After a couple of minutes, her breathing rate was even and she fell asleep.

I sighed and wondered if we will ever make it out of this mess if things will ever get back to normal and we would be happy once again.

I closed my eyes and waited until I fell asleep once again.

After a couple of hours of sleep, I snapped my eyes open when I heard the dungeon doors open. I moved to the corner of the cell and put my head in my hands.

They aren't coming for you, they aren't coming for you Tiana, I kept repeating that in my mind. I calmed myself and my wolf but it didn't help when the door to my cell opened and a voice echoed throughout the dungeon.

"Get up, it's time."
