Chapter 2

"What?" I asked in shock. My parent's faces were red and their eyes were watering. Adam's face held the same expression that was on my face, confusion, and scared written all over our faces.

"Listen closely, honey," my father said loudly through the screaming that was happening at that exact moment. "You and Adam can make it out, run away, and don't look back."

My mom nodded her head and started to push us both out the back door. I immediately shook my head. I was still confused and didn't know what exactly was going on.

"Mother, father. I'm not leaving without you guys," I said, giving them a pleading look. They stopped and looked at Adam and me for a moment as tears poured through their eyes, I felt my vision blur but blinked my eyes to prevent them from falling.

"You have to. You can save yourselves while you still can," my mother said, holding my hands in hers. While this was happening there was chaos outside, growls and screaming everywhere.

"Why can't I take both of you guys with me?" I asked, looking at my parents hoping they'll agree. "I can handle it."

"No, you can't. Your powers can only hold one person and that one person will be Adam. He will protect you no matter what," My father spoke, looking at Adam. Adam grabbed my hand and nodded to my parents. "Don't worry. I'll keep her safe," he assured then, dragging me to the back door. I shook my head and pleaded for him to let go of my hand so I could return to my parents.

But no matter what I did he wouldn't budge and he just kept pulling me until I was outside the back door. I turned my head and my parents gave me a small smile while trying to hold back the tears. A tear fell out of my eye but I wiped it away when I was no longer in their sight.

I started to shake my head when I heard the front door break and growls erupt in the air. Adam grabbed my face in his hands and stared me in the eyes.

"Tiana, you need to calm down if you want to make it out alive." He said calmly and I nodded my head and breathed in and out. "Good job. Ok, now I want you to concentrate on your powers so we can get out of here safely."

I nodded my head once more and closed my eyes. I concentrated on all the energy I had left and on Adam's hand that was in mine. I opened my eyes and sighed in relief when I saw I succeeded in making both of us invisible. Adam gave me a weak smile and nodded towards the woods that was behind the packhouse. I looked back and my eyes widened when I saw dead bodies everywhere, and an unknown werewolf appeared from behind us but wasn't aware of our presence due to my powers.

I looked over at Adam and he tugged on my hand, "we have to move, Tiana. Before your powers weaken." I nodded my head and looked back one more time to see that the packhouse was full of werewolves that were not in our pack. They were rogues.

Adam and I ran into the woods and as far as we can get before my powers wore off and make us visible. We went behind separate trees and stripped out of our clothes to shift. After concentrating on my wolf, I shifted to my small light brown wolf and grabbed my clothes with my mouth.

When I emerged from behind the tree, I was meet with Adam's gray wolf. He tilted his head to the right, indicating that we should move on and pass our pack borders. I felt the sadness wash over me just by the thought of leaving my pack and my family but we had no other choice.

I nodded my head and we started running towards the borders, our fur was dancing with the wind and our paws colliding with the ground, giving us more speed as we ran. We came to a stop when we were close to the borders. By now my powers wore off and we weren't invisible anymore.

"Let's move before anyone catches our scents," Adam said through the mind link. I nodded my head and moved closer to the border.

Ignoring the pain, we moved on and ran to who knows where. I wasn't worried about where we were going but what is to come. I couldn't let go nor forget my pack. Millions of questions ran through my mind, like what happened? Who were those werewolves and what did they want? But the most question that lingered in my mind was, were my parents ok?

I was sure Adam was feeling exactly the same way. He also left his parents with no other choice. I knew my parents weren't dead because if they were, then I would have felt the pain of the broken connection between us, but thank God I didn't.

After hours of complete torture of running to who knows where we decided to stop and take a break. I went behind a tree and shifted into my human form, before wearing my clothes. I sighed and went back to were we stopped. It was dark outside, not a single star at sight. I felt fear crept into my heart but it immediately went away when I felt familiar arms wrap around my waist.

"It's going to be ok," Adam whispered. I turned around to face him and hugged him back, laying my head on his chest.

"Where will we go?" I asked. We had nowhere else to go. No one would agree to take us in their pack because now we were rogues. Rogues are werewolves without a pack. They are known to be violent and bad, that's why alphas never agree to accept them in their packs.

And I dreaded that thought.

"I don't know but no matter what happens we have each other," he said then kissed my forehead. I relaxed in his arms and let a tear escape my eye. I didn't want to admit it but I was scared. But I knew that having Adam by my side will make things better.

I nodded my head and a yawn escaped my mouth. Adam and I pulled apart and he looked around and pulled me under a big tree.

"Let's sleep for a bit, tomorrow we'll continue," he whispered and all I did was nod. He rested his back against the tree and I rested against his chest. I closed my eyes and welcomed the darkness with open arms.

"Happy birthday, birthday girl!" I heard someone shout as I opened my sleepy eyelids. A smile crawled onto my lips when I saw who it was, my mother was beside my bed holding a plate of pancakes which I must say, looked delicious. And my father was by the door, smiling from ear to ear.

"Good morning," I yawned back, stretching my arms and scrubbing my eyelids before sitting up. "Come on honey, get up. We have to get started." My mother squealed as I just raised a brow.

"Get started for what?" I asked. She gave me a look which said 'are you crazy' and placed the plate of pancakes on my lap.

"For your sweet sixteenth birthday party," she replied in a duh tone. I smiled and nodded my head.

"You know you don't have to right?" I said, "I wouldn't mind if it was just small."

My mother shook her head at me, "you only turn sixteen once."

I nodded my head and looked down at the pancakes. Yum. They are my favorite things to eat for breakfast.

"Ok, you eat, and once you're done get ready and come downstairs." I nodded again and started to eat once they left my room. Once I was done, I showered and wore a summer dress and did my hair.

While I applied mascara I saw from the reflection of the mirror that someone was opening my door. I smiled when I saw that it was Adam. He came to me and hugged me tightly. He pulled away and smiled a toothy grin at me.

"Happy sweet sixteenth," he told me and I smiled back.

"Thank you."

"Well, don't you look gorgeous today," he said, looking at my dress.

I faked gasp and pretended I was hurt.

"I'm always gorgeous," I pouted. He chuckled and shook his head.

"Sure, you are. If that helps you sleep at night." I was about to strangle him until I heard my name being called out. I huffed and walked downstairs with a grinning Adam behind me. When I made it downstairs, I was greeted with friendly smiles and 'Happy birthdays'.

I immediately smiled at the affection I was gaining from everyone right now. I walked up to my mother and saw she was making food.

Well, ain't that a delightful sight?

"So what are we going to do in the meantime?" I asked. She looked at me and smiled.

"You can go to the mall with Adam and have fun, but make sure you're home before lunch because I'm making your favorite food," she gushed. I smiled before squeezing the living daylights out of her, making her let out a soft laugh.

"Thank you so much," I said.

"You're welcome, sweety. Have fun." I nodded and ran up to Adam that was eating breakfasts.

"Eat fast so we can go to the mall," I said. He looked at me and raised his brow.

"Don't rush me, women," he spoke, his words coming out muffled from the food that was in his mouth. "Why do I always come with you to the mall? Don't you have other friends?" He asked, his messy lips that were stained with food twitching upwards into a smirk.

"Adam," I warned, smacking his head as I sat down on the chair next to him. His smirk disappeared and turned into a pout before he rubbed his head. "God, you're violent." He muttered but I heard and just rolled my eyes.

All of a sudden I felt a slight pain in my upper back, it wasn't strong but it bothered me. However, I didn't think much of it so I just ignored it. After Adam was finished, he washed his hands and we made our way outside the packhouse.

After a couple of hours, we went back to the packhouse and I was not feeling good. The pain in my back grew and my face was hot, Adam noticed that and took us back home.

"Are you sure you're ok?" He asked with a worried expression. I nodded my head. I could just have a little fever, nothing serious. But the thing is werewolves don't get sick often and that was what worried me.

When we entered the packhouse everyone was sitting at the table ready to eat their food. Just when I made eye contact with my mother, I fell to the ground.

I heard a loud scream until I realized that it was coming from me, I was in pain. So much pain. It felt like I was shifting for the first time again. When someone first shifts into their wolve it's painful and that's what I was feeling. However, I already shifted into my wolf a couple of years back, so I had no idea what was happening.

Everyone ran up to me and I just closed my eyes shut, trying to make the pain go away. I cried out in pain when I felt the pain in my back grow to the point where I felt like my back was going to tear apart.

I heard shouting and talking that were just hurting my ears.

"What happened?"

"Is she ok?"

"Call the pack doctor!"

"Give her space!"

"Oh my God. This can't be happening!"

The last one caught my attention. It was my mother and even though she sounded shocked, she seemed happy, more like excited. But I couldn't think more of it because I fell into the darkness.

I snapped my eyes open and inhaled, catching my breath. I groaned once I remembered the dream I had, it was more like a flashback. That was the day when I first discovered my powers and became half angel and half werewolf. No wonder all my life I was never like all the other wolves. I was always small and weak compared to the others but then I discovered what I truly was, a hybrid.

I got my angel side from my mother's side. She's not an angel but her grandmother was and it was passed down to me. My mom was so happy that I inherited the angel genes but since my dad was completely werewolf, I was only able to inherit half of it.

And because of that my powers are weak and I can't use them for a long period of time. I could make myself invisible and including someone else but only one person. I also can heal people's injures but like the other one, there is a limit. And my favorite are my wings, the pain I had that day was because my wings were growing. But due to being a hybrid, they aren't that big and I could only fly with them for a while until I get tired.

I was snapped out of my thoughts when I felt someone behind me move and that was when I looked at my surroundings. I then remembered what happened yesterday and remembered the attack. I sighed and got up from the ground and saw Adam blinking his eyes open.

"Morning," he muttered.

"Morning."

He got up and stretched his arms, before running his hand through his hair and then looked up at me.

"Did you sleep good?" He questioned. I gave him a weak smile and nodded. "What about you?" I asked.

"It would have been better if a certain someone hadn't been squishing me against a tree for the whole night," he said with a teasing grin. I rolled my eyes at him and he just chuckled.

"Let's get moving, I'm hungry. So let's find a deer to eat or something," he said. I nodded my head and at that exact moment, my stomach growled.

Of course we weren't going to be eating it in our human form. I don't think I'll be able to handle it. It's just that what else could we eat in a place like this?

We went behind separate trees and shifted into our wolves. My wolf had been wanting to spread her legs and run and that's what I was going to do.

We started to run in our wolf forms and sniffed out anything we could eat. At the moment we were in an unclaimed territory so we had nothing to worry about.

After a while of running, we came to a complete stop when we saw a deer in the distance. I growled but not loud enough for the deer to hear.

I looked at Adam and he was eager to attack.

"On a count of 3, we attack," Adam spoke through the mind link. I nodded my head and waited while lowering my body so the deer wouldn't see me.

"1...2...3." And right then and there we leaped, running towards the deer. The deer turned its head and started to run as fast as it could when it saw us running towards it. I growled and ran faster. Of course, we were faster than the deer but since it wasn't close to us from the beginning it was ahead of us.

As we ran we were getting closer to our prey. We were so close until I felt the air around us was different. Adam and I stopped in confusion, but then the realization hit us. We crossed into another pack's territory and the worst part is, we were rogues.

"We're in a claimed territory. We have to get out of here before we get into trouble," Adam spoke. I immediately agreed and we started to run in the direction we came from, but after we started to do that we heard growls and howls approaching us. Adam and I picked our paces but stopped when we were surrounded by wolves.

We had no place to go, we were trapped.

"Maybe we could convince them that we mean no harm," I told Adam through the link. His eyes were dark and he growled lowly.

"I don't think that will change their minds," he said in a dangerous tone.

Ok, now this was just frightening me.

"Why," I asked in a careful voice, dreading any answer that I wouldn't be quite fond of.

He looked at me and came closer to me, shielding me from the other wolves.

"Because we are in the Black Shadow pack."
