CHAPTER 72

NIALL'S POV

When we first got to the house everyone's jaw dropped. It had five bedrooms which made things a little awkward for me considering Hannah and I had only been together for a few days. We came to a decision that Hannah and Lottie would share a room, and Louis and I would share a room. For now anyways.

"I think that I'm going to go take a nap..." Angie trailed off. She walked down the hall and into hers and Harry's bedroom. Surprisingly, Harry didn't follow her like he normally would have.

"Hey Hannah would you like to take a walk on the beach?" I heard Harry ask.

"Yeah sure! Niall want to join?" She turned and looked at me with an innocent smile on her face.

Right as I was about to agree, Harry cut in. "How about just you and I go. There's something I want to talk to you about." He sent me a glare that instantly confused me.

"Alright." Hannah sounded just as confused as I did.

Harry grabbed her arm and pulled her out the back door. The nerve of that kid...

HARRY'S POV

At first it was silent. The only noise that could be heard was the soft crinkling of the frosty grass beneath our feet as we walked. Today was the day that I would find out her secret.

"Hannah, are you okay?" I looked over at her, and her usual giddy face wasn't present. It was almost as if asking that question was off limits.

"I'm fine." She kicked at a rock that had come through her path, and we both watched as it flew through the air and landed a few feet in front of us.

"Then why does it always seem like your emotions are to the extreme? Your either really happy, or really sad." My eyes fell to the ground and I counted the steps I took before she answered. 14 in total.

"I'm fine." She turned her head away from mine and looked out over the ocean. Her hair blew into my face as her neck craned. The familiar scent of vanilla wafted through my noise. Her jet black locks smelt just like my mothers. A comforting aroma I would never forget.

I grabbed her wrist with my hand, and halted us both to a stop. I stared at her big brown orbs and couldn't help but notice a tint of red in them. She had been crying.

"What do you want?" Her face was as cold and still as a pond in the middle of winter.

"Too find out your secrets." My words lingered in the air and I watched as her face thawed slowly.

"Why do you care?" Her muscles un-tensed as she let herself fall to the ground and stare up at the clouded sky. She acted as if she wanted somebody to notice her emotions, but she would never admit it.

I sat crossed legged next to her and I tried to follow her eyes path and see what she was looking at. I made it out to be the single white puffy cloud in the gray sky. "I just do." I whispered so it was almost inaudible to her.

"My mother and father were both in a car accident last month. The impact was too strong for both of their frail bodies, and they were killed instantly. I have no family, nobody at all." Her voice was shaky and I could tell it brought her pain to even think about what happened.

"You have us now." I let my back lay on the cold grass, next to hers. I glanced her way and noticed that her eyes were closed and her cheeks were wet with tears. I placed the pad of my thumb gently on her cheek and wiped away the wetness.

"Thank you." She croaked out without moving a single bone in her body. Her lips barely even parted as she spoke, and I could tell this was way more than she could handle.

"What are you feeling right now?" I asked as I pulled my hand away from her face. I remember laying down in my backyard listening to my older sister cry to me years ago. I felt safe and comfortable right now next to Hannah. I thought of her as a sister, a sister I could trust.

"Frustrated, mad, relieved, happy, confused, and vulnerable." Her words lay scattered like plastic bottles on the side of a busy road. Each one different, yet the same.

"It's going to be okay." I reassured her as she let out a soft sigh. Her tears had subsided, but it was as clear as a bell that she was holding back an entire stream of them. How could a girl as delicate as a flower, contain feelings as dense as bricks?

"How do you know?" Her words as dull as dishwater filled my ears.

"Sometimes you just do."
