《Breathing ∞ Kol Mikaelson [1]》[80]

Emma found herself sitting on the large deck in the back of the house, not at the table like usually, but rather on the ground, her eyes looking out at the view of the ocean and dark clouds hanging in the sky above it, streaks of light starting to pass through them.
She'd always enjoyed storms, but the sight of it alone wasn't what had brought the smile onto Emma's face. It was the knowledge that the clouds and oncoming rain were her doing. She had been working on mastering the spell that would allow her to create a storm for quite a bit now, and she'd finally managed to get it done. It was nice knowing that she didn't just give up on it before succeeding because plans had changed.
"And you're willing to give all that up for a man." The sound of a voice coming from behind her had Emma jumping in surprise for a moment before she turned to the vampire standing there. Katherine, who had a couple of more days before she left Rio was standing at the door, having watched Emma perform the spell without the Park's knowledge.
Emma wasn't surprised to learn that Katherine somehow knew about Kol and Emma's plans for her to finally turn. In a house occupied by three vampires, it was rare that anything could be kept private. It was why Emma had started tinkering with silencing and blocking spells in the first place. Glancing back into the house, she could see Elijah right in that moment, moving through the kitchen rather slowly, indicating that even now he was listening in.
"It's not all for a man." Emma spoke once Katherine's words finally caught up with her. For as long as she'd been thinking about the possibility of turning and a future as a vampire, she always knew she didn't want Kol to be the only reason for it. He could be one of them, but she needed to be absolutely sure in multiple reasons.
Noticing the raised eyebrow Katherine was sending her, Emma gave out a small sigh before giving more of an explanation. "See all of this?" She asked, hands motioning to the collection of trinkets she had gathered around her. Small decorative objects or pieces of jewellery and stones she knew all stored magic within them. "That's what all this power comes from. Take it away. Leave me without a source, and I'm basically human again. Turning into a vampire isn't just about spending forever with Kol."

"It's power." A knowing smirk spread over Katherine's face as she started to understand more of Emma's motives. She could definitely approve of the reasons once she knew what really lay behind the decision.
"I love my magic. It's a rush and thrilling and I enjoy exploring it. But it isn't going to keep me alive in the long run." Emma spoke in a knowing tone, having given this aspect of turning into a vampire more thought than she did most others. She knew turning would mean losing her magic and ability to siphon. It was the price witches had to pay. "Not fighting against my disease, and not against my father if I'm deprived of a constant source. But the speed, the strength, the senses, the immortality, they will. And I can always manipulate a witch into doing spells for me if I need them."
"Good." Emma wasn't looking for Katherine's approval when it came to her decision. She wasn't looking for anyone's. But still, having someone like Katherine Pierce agreeing that it was a smart one only fuelled Emma into believing she was making the right choice.
And to Katherine it meant she'd been right about Emma from the start, and all the stories she heard weren't just grand exaggerations. She could see a lot of herself in the witch, and that's how Katherine knew Emma would be able to survive whatever came her way. People like them always did.
Katherine turned back, walking into the house again and leaving Emma to enjoy her magic by herself while she still could, knowing now that is what she was doing. She moved to close the door behind her. Although, before she did so fully, her ears caught the sound of Emma's phone buzzing against the wooden floor.
Glancing at the screen, Emma waited a few more moments until she was sure Katherine had closed the door behind her before muttering her spell to make sure neither of the vampires could hear her through it this time before she answered the phone.
She and Kol had, of course, been keeping in touch in the days since he left Rio, but Emma always made sure that neither Katherine nor Elijah could hear the conversations. Independent of whether it was a simple call to check in and tell each other they missed one another, or if it was one discussing the side plans Kol and Emma had made for his time back in Mystic Falls.

Just because Emma wasn't warning anyone about Katherine's plans, didn't mean she was about to give her an edge by letting her hear whatever Kol may have discovered in his time helping Rebekah. Or let Elijah know about their plans for the daggers. Even if Emma did suspect a part of him might approve of them considering the many times he too had been on the receiving end of one.
Answering the call, Emma brought the phone up to her ear with a small smile, ready to greet him happily, but she didn't even open her mouth before he was speaking on the other end. "Do you think you ever might change your mind?"
"Well, I've missed hearing your voice too." Emma teased lightly.
"Emma..." The entirely serious tone of his voice as he said her name had Emma sobering up, realizing whatever he wanted to talk about must be important if he was being like this.
"Change my mind about what?" However, whatever it was, she wasn't quite catching on due to the vagueness of his question.
"Being a vampire." The words had Emma letting out a small laugh, one that wasn't as full of amusement as it usually was when he'd say something stupid.
"Kol, I'm not even one yet. And even if I was, I've made my choice." She said firmly before asking the question she wanted to know the answers to. "Why are you asking this?" She thought someone might've said something to get into his head; make him believe the choice wasn't something she truly wanted. And she was ready to reassure him that it was and that she was ready for it.
However, Kol's answer was something she certainly didn't expect. "They can't get to the Cure. The consequences... They'd be disastrous." He revealed, making Emma's brows furrow. For a moment she spared a glance back into the house through the glass doors, but Katherine and Elijah were gone, obviously having given up on trying to listen in by now.
Still, focusing on her spell to make sure its effects were still holding, Emma spoke only once she was certain of it. "Hold on, hold on... What are you saying?"
"I'm going to have to stop them from getting it."
Emma wasn't sure what to think of the sudden change. "What happens if they do?" She questioned, wanting all of the information so she could weigh the options. She knew doing this would place him back on Klaus and Rebekah's bad side. But it would also mean taking away what Rebekah wanted most. What she deserved to have.
And yet, Emma suspected her mind was made up no matter what he said next. Because if there was anything she knew with the utmost certainty about Kol Mikaelson it was that nothing scared him. And yet, she could hear the tinge of fear in his voice as he spoke.
"By getting the Cure, they risk raising Silas, and with him bringing about the end of time." Kol's explanation was short and without too many details, but he sounded entirely sure of it. And Emma didn't doubt him.
"Then do what you have to. I don't care about the Cure." Emma said in acceptance, completely certain of what she was saying. She was ready to support him in this completely. "What do you need from me?" Even if it meant heading back to Mystic Falls herself.
"I need you to stay there." Kol on the other hand didn't want to go that far. "And keep an eye on Elijah. I'm certain one of my siblings might call him in an attempt to get his help."
"Are you sure?" Emma questioned, knowing that with him turning against his siblings and their goals, it would have been better if she did go. If they accelerated the plans they had made. Not in regards to her becoming a vampire, but rather concerning what she'd promised to try before that.
"If you came, I'd spend more of my time focused on you than on the problem. You're safe in Brazil, and that's exactly what I need." Kol revealed, and Emma could understand his reasons. She'd be going there to help him, her focus only on him, but he was there to stop the Cure from being found. He didn't need his focus split.
"Alright I'll stay." She relented in understanding. "But only if you promise to be careful."
"I promise."
"Come back soon." Emma requested. She couldn't ignore the worry spreading through her, but she tried to brush it off. It was no time for her to turn into a pessimist.
"I'll be back to you as soon as all this business is finished, I promise."
Emma believed his promise...

8 200Path of Righteousness
What do you desire? What are you afraid of? You run away from one, pursuing the other. Is that all you are? Conquer your fears. Dig to the bottom and confirm, what you really want... ...For you cannot escape suffering and death. You only have a little time. Use it wisely. Uru, a young boy with no talent for magic or fighting, sets out on a quest to become an avatar of order, the physical embodiment of righteousness, in a distant future, where control of origin energy allows people to defy physics and manipulate causality. Mocked by fate and broken by impossible dreams, all that's left is to stand in defiance to cruel existence. Because there is a Truth out there, somewhere. Singular, transcendent, eternal. What would you sacrifice for it? *** This is a fantastic sci-fi epic. It's going to blend both western and eastern traditional fantasy tropes – like might & magic and cultivation – with rational sci-fi grounded fully in reality, to produce a purely fictional fairy tale. I'd like to deliver something light-hearted and yet wholly serious. An uplifting adventure exploring the unfathomable reaches of humanity, free of indecency, with a healthy dose of humorous banter, legendary beings, and most importantly – lots of exciting, firework-filled mayhem! I've tried reading many web novels, but there's a fundamental problem with them – the eastern ones are annoyingly repetitive, superficial and morally destitute, while western ones are often dark, convoluted and profane. There's only so much one can do to filter out the bad and try to fill in the gaps with their own imagination. It's one thing to eat tasty fast food, but if it's moldy and filled with toxins, then it's not only poisonous, but also disgusting. The appreciation of beauty and higher values is disappearing at an alarming rate. Although there are throngs of talented people out there, none of them are creating what I want to witness – an inspiring battle against impossible odds, ending in absolute victory. A triumph of the spirit so overwhelming, it crushes the spectator into his seat and takes his breath away. I'm looking for a real paragon, so now I'd like to try conceiving one. *** The MC's name comes from Tolkien's Elven dictionary in Silmarillion, 'Uru' meaning 'Fire', and 'Dagnir an Uruloki' meaning 'Slayer of Dragons'. *** Note: I'm neither a native speaker, nor an aficionado of literature – I've never written anything before, and despite proficient English my literary prowess is abysmal. It therefore takes me a painful amount of effort to polish the chapters and bring them up to par. Last year I wrote and posted some on FictionPress, but I stopped since it wasn't going anywhere. The appalling amount of filth and mediocrity being peddled in all the media nowadays – a result of no conspiracy to manipulate the masses, but plain supply and demand – is no longer just the triumph of form over substance, but most worryingly corruption of the latter. Who wants to read about ideals anymore? And yet, masses flock together to gobble up perversion and depravity. That being said, I can't rule out pitiful exposure as the culprit to my failure, so I am now once again trying to increase it here, possibly for the last time. If there are still human beings present, hungry or in need of a detox after eating too much garbage, make yourselves heard, so I can see a reason to continue the story. Otherwise it's pointless – I'm not going to make fodder for the masses, and I'm most certainly not going to throw pearls before swine. I'll simply stop writing altogether.
