《Breathing ∞ Kol Mikaelson [1]》[56]

Emma watched as at least half of Mystic Falls High mingled throughout Rebekah's house, especially in the backyard where the compelled delivery guys set up the keg. The party was in full swing, even though quite a few of them were still supposed to be in school. However, just like Rebekah, many were eager to say screw it to the curfew and just have fun. She supposed it was a good thing that the curfew wasn't put in place to protect the students.

Growing tired of watching future frat boys doing keg stands, Emma started to head back inside, hoping to find the host of the party. However, as she walked through the halls, her eyes caught sight of the newly arrived pair as they passed through the threshold. For a moment, Emma watched them, wondering what kind of dramatics their presence will bring.

But once Elena walked off, following after the dark haired girl Emma could recognize from the funeral, she stepped towards Stefan. Truth was, she could stand him a little more than she could Elena. So she definitely wasn't going to follow after the Gilbert.

"I see you had no trouble coming in." She announced her presence to him, making Stefan turn around to look at her instead of walking off to find himself something to drink. "Although, I do wish whatever magic is involved would realize a game of pencil darts was sort of an unofficial retraction of an invitation."

Emma spoke in a tone that was more joking than harsh, and it was because of that that Stefan laughed at the comment. "I didn't think that would actually work." He revealed honestly.

"You learn something new every day." Emma shrugged her shoulders, glancing at the door for a moment before turning back to Stefan. "Hopefully your girlfriend doesn't do something stupid that would make me chain her up inside and then uninvite her. I hear it's quite an unpleasant feeling for a vampire."

"Now, that I know you can't do." Stefan pointed out with a pleased smile on his face. He also doubted that Emma had what it took to be able to chain Elena up now that she was a vampire. But his doubt only made Emma's lips spread into a confident smile.

"Don't underestimate me, Stefan." Emma said lightly. "Only stupid people do." She added on with a calm tone, but the threat was clear: Keep Elena in control or you'll realize what I mean.

A chuckle behind her had Emma turning around, the suggestive smile wiping from her face and now replaced with a more genuine one. Stefan couldn't help but observe the change, remembering a time when things used to be like that between himself and Elena. When they were simply happy to see each other and didn't have to worry about some new threat or problem with every new day.

"You decided to come after all." Emma smiled up at the Mikaelson leaning against the door frame, having been there to watch Emma talking with Stefan. And Kol couldn't deny that hearing her threaten someone just made her even more attractive in his opinion.

"Well, you did make some promises that were hard to refuse." He said, pushing away from the door and about to step inside when he was met with an invisible barrier. "Now what poor soul did my sister compel to keep this place guarded."

"Come in, Kol." Emma smirked up at him, laughing lightly at his assumption and the way he shook his head in realization. Of course, he should have known as much. Stepping over the threshold he was soon at her side, arm wrapping around her shoulders just as Stefan spoke up.

"Uh, excuse me." He left Emma and Kol to watch him walk off, following in the direction in which Elena had left before his conversation with Emma.

"Do you think it was you or me that scared him off?" Emma looked up at Kol as she asked jokingly, making him laugh in amusement.

"I am certain it was you, darling. You're quite ferocious when making threats." The Mikaelson said with a smile one his face, one that could be described as a mix of pride and enjoyment. Noticing a random student walking past them, Kol plucked the girl's red cup from her hands. "Keep going. Unless you want my next drink to be you." He said dismissively, turning back to Emma and completely disregarding the stranger again.

"I see you've taken up drinking for the both of us." Emma joked as she watched him take a couple of big sips of the beer from the cup.

"Well, it's not as if the cheap beer my dear sister has procured will do much to me." Kol somewhat frowned at the cup in his hands, making Emma giggle in amusement as he continued. "You are always free to join me, darling."

"As I said, not going to happen." Emma chuckled at the attempt, moving her hand to his and lightly bringing the cup closer to his lips to prove her point further. He was drinking for the both of them. And he happily accepted, drinking some more of the beer before he spoke again.

"Come along then, I expect a full tour of the house." He announced once he stopped drinking again, less than half of the cup remaining full as he pulled on her hand and led them to the staircase. "I'm curious to see if my sister's taste in property is better than her taste in men."

"It is." Emma couldn't hold back the small grumble, and Kol instantly noticed it. A smirk spread over his face.

"Does your sudden distaste mean I can kill Matt Donovan now?" He questioned. The only reason he hadn't done so already was because the quarterback seemed to be helpful to Emma. If he's outlived his purpose, Kol would take great joy in snapping his neck.

"No. If anyone's killing Matt, it'll be me." Emma pointed out, sending Kol a pointed look to make her message clear. Was Matt an idiot? Yes. Was she pissed at him because of it? Yes. But luckily for him, she wasn't as impulsive when it came to killing the people that angered her as some others she knew.

Knowing the topic of Matt was leading to the risk of Kol asking what the boy had done in the first place to anger her, Emma decided to change the topic before he had a chance to. If he found out then he'd definitely kill the human.

"Also, who starts a house tour on the second floor? All there is up here is bedrooms?" Emma questioned him as they continued to pass through one of the deserted halls, sounds of the party still reaching their ears but by now it was out of sight along with any of the guests.

For a moment Kol nodded his head in agreement, taking another swig of his beer before looking down at her. The look on his face had Emma realizing what was coming even before he said it. "Maybe that's exactly the part I wanted to see?" Kol said suggestively, grabbing hold of her hand and suddenly pulling her through one of the open doors.

Emma let out a small gasp in surprise, giggling as his hands discarded of the now empty cup before coming to rest on her waist as he pulled her close. On instinct, her arms wrapped around his neck, but as he leaned down to kiss her Emma arched her back and pulled away.

"We are not going to be the cliché people who have sex at a high school party." She said in a determined voice. Not only were there too many people around, bringing about the risk of being overheard (especially with three vampires in the house) or walked in on. But also, there was still a chance of the hunter showing up. And as rules of horror state, the couple that has sex is the next to die at the hands of the murderer psycho.

"But I seem to remember some mention of being surrounded by you." Kol pointed out teasingly. His hands went to her arms, gently lowering them from his neck before he used his speed to gently spin her around and press her back against his chest, lips going to her neck. "Are you going back on your promise, darling?" He questioned, pressing kisses to her skin after every couple of words.

Emma cursed him in her thoughts, but she remained unable to get the words out as her eyes fluttered closed at the sensation of his lips on her skin. Instead of protesting, she angled her head to the side, giving him more space for his kisses. By now, he knew very well that her neck was her weak spot. And it just so happened that he liked that very much. They were both neck people.

"You're incorrigible." Emma muttered happily, feeling his breath gently fan across her skin as he let out a chuckle. She relaxed in his hold, enjoying the moment. But then he stopped much sooner than she would have liked. She was about to protest, but before she could, with their bodies so close together it was impossible to miss as she swayed on his feet.

"Kol?" She turned to him, the daze he caused in her mind now gone as she spun around to look at him in concern. "What's wrong?" She questioned, knowing asking if he was okay would be pointless. He looked far from it as her hands reached to brush some of his hair away from his face. She could feel the cold sweat starting to slowly appear on his forehead.

She then spotted the odd looking veins that travelled across his neck for a just a second before they disappeared again. He must've noticed or felt it too, because the next moment he was stumbling away from her and towards the vanity on the other side of the room, leaning against its wooden surface as soon as he reached it, staring at his reflection in the mirror.

"What's going on?" She questioned in a worried tone, making his eyes snap away from his own reflection and meet hers in the mirror. But he didn't answer, instead he closed them, shaking his head as if he was trying to clear his mind. But it only made Emma worry more.

She walked closer, placing a hand on his shoulder as she spoke his name. But she wasn't expecting what came next, and had no time to react as his face morphed, showing the red eyes and black veins beneath them as he turned on her. The next second she could feel her back hitting against a wall, his hands pinning her against it.

Her heart started to race, breath gone from her lungs as she watched him bare his fangs at her. Fear spread through her as she realized that whatever was going on, it was making him fully lose control. Emma knew it was dangerous to try talking him down in this state. But she also knew she needed to get out of the room.

"I'm sorry." She whispered, reaching for one of his hands with her own. She started to siphon some magic, watching him barely flinch at the action which she had been hoping would be enough on it's own. It wasn't, and his hold on her only tightened, fangs coming closer to her neck and forcing Emma to remember one of the spells he'd taught her. "Motus." She called the incantation, hand pressing against Kol's chest and making him fly backwards.

He crashed into the vanity, the mirror breaking and showering the floor with glass, but Emma didn't focus on the ruined property. Instead, she rushed to the door, slipping outside and slamming it closed just as Kol tried to rush at it again.

"Vis porta." She used the last of the magic she'd siphoned to lock the door with a spell. She knew it wouldn't hold long, but hopefully by then Kol would calm down inside. But just in case, and not wanting to agitate him further by continuing to stand in front of the door, sure he could hear her still, Emma rushed down the stairs.

Breath coming out in heavy pants, she looked around the large number of people, searching for any familiar faces. Her mind was a jumble of questions, wondering what in the world happened to Kol. He'd been perfectly fine and then just suddenly snapped. As she thought more and more about it, her face paled in realization.

"Give me that." She snapped at a random person passing by her, snatching the red cup from his hand. He tried to protest, but Emma silenced him with a simple look. "Leave. Now." She instructed, tone harsh and glare cold. She may not be able to compel people, but she could certainly force them to back off in other ways.

As the guy walked away, Emma took a small sip of the beer, grimacing as the disgusting liquid made its way down her throat. But she wasn't drinking it for the terrible taste, no she was searching for something else. And it wasn't hard to sense it as she took another sip.

"Damn it!" She cursed. "Can this guy die already?" She questioned, really eager to be rid of this damn hunter. All this time she'd been thinking he would show up at the party or choose a more secluded corner for a surprise attack. Of course, he wouldn't. Why do that when a simple solution was staring him right in the face.

Emma's eyes scanned through the crowd, searching for any of the vampires she knew were there. But she couldn't spot any of them. She only caught sight of the pastor's daughter, and that had to be enough for now.

"April! It is April right?" Emma called out to the girl, trying to calm her breathing and herself so she wouldn't come off too rattled. The last thing she needed was questions from the humans.

"Yeah, what's up?" The girl asked with a sweet smile, although slightly confused as to why Emma, who'd never spoken to her before, was calling for her now.

"Have you seen Elena or Stefan? Or even Rebekah?" Emma questioned. She didn't waste time on crap like small talk or introductions.

"Rebekah went upstairs, she didn't look too good." April revealed, making Emma hold in a groan. Although she shouldn't have been surprised, she'd seen Rebekah down a cup of beer at the very start of the party. "And Elena and Stefan didn't really stick around, they left a while ago."

"Thanks." Emma nodded her head, turning away from the girl before she could ask any more questions. She walked off, pulling her phone from her pocket and dialling the newest number among her contacts.

"You really do hear things, don't you?" Caroline's voice sounded as Emma brought the device to her ear. Of course, the brunette had already texted the vampire about her suspicion that the hunter might show up at Rebekah's party earlier today.

"Yeah. Although it would be better if I predicted them since it's so damn obvious." Emma grumbled, but shook her head. She'd curse the hunter once she took care of everything else. "I figured out where the werewolf venom ended up." She revealed to Caroline instead.

"What? Did he attack someone?" Caroline asked in surprise.

"No. If any more of you plan on showing up to Rebekah's party, don't drink the beer." Emma warned, her words met with silence on the other end of the line for a moment.

"Oh my god, Elena and Stefan went." The blonde gasped in surprise.

"Yeah, but I don't think they drank anything. They left after just a few minutes it seems." Emma revealed what she'd learned, but still went on to add more. "If they did, you should know Klaus is back in town." She added on. Something told her Klaus might not be very cooperative in contributing his blood if they asked, considering his last interactions with the Salvatores, but that wasn't Emma's problem.

"Thank you for telling me." Caroline spoke.

"Deal is a deal." Emma dismissed, noting how much it made her sound like Elijah. "I gotta go Caroline, I have to shut down this damned party." Emma added on soon after, the conversation came to a close, and she had one more thing to deal with.

The two said their goodbyes, Caroline hanging up and leaving Emma to the next phone call she had to make. She knew she couldn't clear out the house on her own. As long as the alcohol was flowing, no one would care about a single person telling them to leave. So she did the one thing she knew would clear them all out. Emma called the Sheriff's office and reported the party. With that done, she could only wait, hope and worry.
