《Breathing ∞ Kol Mikaelson [1]》[17]

Emma continued to pace the length of her bedroom. Up and down, wall to wall. Sometimes she stopped to check her phone. And then she'd continue to pace. She even tried to distract herself with her father's journals, but it didn't seem to do the trick. Because, Emma was right, she and Klaus were quite popular that evening. More so Klaus than she. But for all the... less desirable reasons.
While Klaus was on the phone with Stefan who, surprisingly enough, wasn't bluffing about killing Elena, Emma received a phone call from Matt. She wasn't really sure what to expect. They weren't really the type of friends who'd call each other to 'just talk'. So, it didn't surprise her when Matt shared that he needed her to do something. That he needed a favor from her. It didn't surprise her when that favor somehow involved Klaus, either.
What did surprise her what exactly the favor was. Of course, she learnt from Rebekah all about Klaus' blood being a cure to a werewolf bite, one that is fatal to vampires. And it wasn't hard to guess that the rest of the Mystic Falls gang was aware of this little bit of information. The part that really did surprise Emma was why they needed it this time.
"What a fucking dick!"
Those were the words that instantly slipped out of Emma's mouth once Matt told her that Tyler bit Caroline. Now anyone with eyes could see that there was some trouble in paradise over there. But Emma didn't expect Tyler to be that much of an ass. And so, she promised Matt that she'd at least ask Klaus to help Caroline. Although, she suspected she might regret it once she took note of his enraged face upon returning to Klaus' side. Of course, thinking of it all later, she realized he didn't seem too surprised at all when she delivered Matt and Sheriff Forbes' plea.
And now, Emma was left waiting for Klaus' call, something he said he'd do when he solved all of the night's issues. She didn't even know how he planned on solving it all. Knowing how infuriated he was with Stefan in that particular moment, she wouldn't put it past him if the solution was just to kill them all. It was her running thoughts that kept her so distracted, and as a result, the soft tap on her window made Emma jump in surprise.
"You said you'd call, not show up at my window like a love-sick teenager." Emma pointed out as she came to open the window only after seeing who it was that was trying to get her attention through it.

"Well, I would have knocked on the front door, but something tells me your mother wouldn't be too pleased with someone as dashing as myself showing up at this time of night looking for her daughter." Klaus smirked at Emma, making the girl roll her eyes at him in annoyance.
"How's Caroline?" She switched the topic with ease, thinking that the blonde vampire might be the better thing to ask about. Stefan surely wasn't something she wanted to lead with and as a result piss off the hybrid.
"She'll live." Klaus said, his voice coming off cold and unbothered. He wasn't amused, he wasn't flaunting the fact that he was the only savior in Caroline's time of need, he wasn't gloating over how he'd made Tyler do what he did (something Emma gathered due to his lack of surprise). No. Klaus wanted to get past the topic of Caroline as quickly as possible without revealing a single thing.
"You care about her." She said after a couple of moments were spent in silence as she analyzed him. It wasn't even a question. Instead, she said it as a statement, something she was sure of.
"You don't know what you're talking about." Klaus sent Emma a sharp glare, one that was surely meant to intimidate. All Emma did was laugh.
"It's okay. Your secret is safe with me." She said with a teasing wink before continuing on. "It's good to know there's still a heart beneath the monster." Emma knew she was getting under Klaus' skin, but it didn't seem to be enough for actual consequences.
"Dear Emma, you must've realized by now how easily I can kill you? One word I don't like, and I can just snap your neck." A smirk now appeared on Klaus' face as he spoke, the words making Emma raise an unimpressed eyebrow at him.
"I'd like to point out you haven't been invited in." Emma said the most obvious thing in that moment. Luckily for him, her room was on the ground floor, otherwise he'd be hanging by her windowsill in an attempt to talk to her.
"You can't stay in there forever."
"Come in." She didn't come back with a smart retort as Klaus expected her to. No teasing, no witty jabs, she just said those two surprising words. And while he did want to question it a bit, he wasn't about to pass up the opportunity and possibly regret it later on. "Because, dear Klaus, you must've realized by now how little I care?"

"Tony is right. You really are stupid." Klaus muttered in surprise as he appeared within the walls of Emma's room with ease. He looked around curiously. Emma suspected he might be searching for her board on which she was planning how to murder him. And so, his eyes, of course, got stuck on all of the notebooks scattered and forgotten on her bed by now. "What is all this?"
"My father's research." Emma said simply, not even protesting as Klaus picked up the notebook she'd been trying to read up until she changed her mind and started the whole pacing marathon.
"Well, at least I know how you are able to understand so much. Daddy shared his wisdom." Klaus chuckled. It was clear that Emma must've gotten some of the more personal information from Rebekah, but even without his sister gone Emma seemed more than capable of keeping up with the vampire world of Mystic Falls. At least now Klaus knew why.
"No, he didn't." Emma started to explain. "Until recently I had no idea about any of this. A part of me wishes I still don't know. The more I find, the more questions I have, and he's not around to answer them. Rebekah promised she'd help me figure things out. Before she disappeared."
"She'll get to help when she's back." Klaus said emotionlessly, his eyes still looking through all of the information that Emma's father managed to gather during their last year in New Orleans.
"And when will that be? I know you have her back." Displaying another moment of boldness, Emma raised an eyebrow at Klaus. Her tone wasn't challenging or demanding, she simply wanted to know. Klaus sighed, sounding somewhat annoyed, but still continued on to reply to Emma's question. He admired that she hadn't prodded at him throughout the day even though she knew. She was aware of her standing and didn't push it.
"I want to reunite my whole family, all of us, together. Until I get my coffins back, that's impossible. Trust me love, you'll see Rebekah within your lifetime." Now that last part made Emma laugh. It was more than obvious that vampire feuds had the potential to go on for decades, if not more. "I wasn't aware that I said something funny."
"Read a bit more. You'll get the joke." Emma said, this time her own voice coming out as the emotionless one as she moved over to sit down on her bed. She watched him as he read through the notebook at an increased speed, flipping some of the pages faster than humanly possible as he wondered how Samuel Park's research into the supernatural could make Klaus wanting to reunite his family funny. Emma could pin point the exact moment he found it, no matter how much he tried to cover up the surprise.
"Pulmonary fibrosis." She said. "You want to know why I'm so bold around you? Why I'm not scared of your threats of killing me? Every year, doctors tell me I have this or that amount of time left, and every time it gets extended. I've made my peace with dying a long time ago, by this point, a part of me is wishing the prognosis would just stick so I don't have to wait around anymore."
Emma's explanations made Klaus pause. He tried to guess whether her risky and often brave behavior truly was a death wish? But the way she spoke didn't make it seem so. Yes, she'd made her peace with dying, resulting in her not being afraid of it. But she didn't seem like the type to wish for it to happen no matter what she tried to say.
"You do know that is easily solved." Klaus pointed out, Emma simply responding with an unamused look. She thought he was making another threat. "I don't mean dying. You wouldn't have to wait for the deadline because there wouldn't be one." He added on, making his meaning a lot clearer. Emma held in her surprise. She was not expecting Klaus of all to be the type to offer such a thing so openly.
"It's what my father wanted too, but is it really a solution? Or will it just bring more problems?" Emma questioned. She'd read enough about vampires for now to know about the down sides. Down sides she wasn't sure were worth it.
"Should you change your mind, offer always stands." Klaus said, but his words held a tone of finality that made it clear he wouldn't push the topic further. He put the notebook back down on her bed, and started to head towards the window. "Good night, Emma."
In another bold moment, Emma spoke up, a smile returning to her face as her teasing tone spread over the room. "Careful Klaus, or I might just start thinking you've grown fond of me."
"Never."
And then he was gone again.

Right Side of Hell
Albus Dumbledore was sure he made the right choice sacrificing an innocent child. Too late he understood how terrible that mistake was. Harry Potter was not what he wanted him to be, he was not what the magical world expected him to be. He was not a replica of James, instead, he inherited more of Lily. Far too much to be convenient.
